Chris did an amazing job for me! It was my first time ever running through the legal system and he was very helpful and descriptive through every part of the process! I came to him very stressed and concerned and was sourced to actually talk to someone who knew what to do and knew what the right steps forwards were! Chris helped get my case dropped from a DUI to a Reckless driving, which is much prettier than the previous result and always made sure to be on time and ready at an amazing rate! Thank you very much Chris for your work!

After getting my DUI and navigating the uncharted waters of endless attorneys I found Christopher. After speaking with him the first time I knew I was going to hire him and told him shortly after that same day. He's genuine, down to earth and charged a very fair price. What can I say?...he went to bat for me. He continuously pushed for the results we were focused on with the City of Seattle prosecutor. We got the results we wanted and I can't be more thankful. Christopher kept me in the loop on what to expect and what had or hadn't transpired. He was transparent throughout the process and let me know what I could do to be ahead of the game and proactive. It was my first DUI w/ a refusal greater than +.15 BAC. I had 2 prior alcohol related offenses on my record and we were able to get it reduced down to a DUI no test. Originally the prosecutor wanted 2yrs ignition interlock, 2 days in jail plus 30 days electronic home monitoring and 5 years bench probation. However, Chris was able to get it down to 1 year ignition interlock, 30 days electronic home monitoring and no probation. He was honest enough to tell me as well that I had a refund coming my way per our contractual agreement. Something that I didn't even know. Hire him should you have the opportunity.

I initially reached out to Ken during a difficult time and he was extremely friendly and helpful during our initial consultation. While I already had a different attorney at the time, the experience left a positive impression on me. Fast forward a couple of years later, I needed an immigration attorney for my wife's green card so reached back out to Ken; and am I glad I did. He is extremely responsive, answers questions more thoroughly than most attorney's I've worked with, and is just an overall joy to work with. I'm now working with him a second time to remove conditions on my wife's green card and he's still just as great to work with. Interestingly enough, I could have gone through my company's immigration law firm free of charge (one of the largest immigration law firms in the world), but I tried working with them and it was clear they were just not on top of things the way Ken was. So I happily paid out of my own pocket (Ken's rates are very reasonable) to hire him. Sometimes, it's better to just work with a local attorney with a personal touch. I would highly recommend Ken's services to anyone!

We have hired Mr. Norris for family law related issues on 2 ocassions as well as sought his legal advice on several things over the past 17 or so years. He is extremely knowledgeable, up front and honest and gets the results you're after! If you have a question Ken cannot answer, he's going to lead you to the best he knows who can!

i hired Ken for immigration related services twice and he exceeded my expectations on both the scenarios. His knowledge and experience on how domestic violence cases are handled in WA state courts is simply fantastic. He provided best possible immigration related services when ever approached, guided me with his valuable suggestions at various stages during my pending DV case and helped me even after the case got dismissed with his immigration related advices on how to handle CBP officials while crossing the US border with DV dismissed charge. Most importantly he is very friendly person to approach anytime when in need.Thank you Ken for all your help. I highly recommend Ken for any (Criminal defense/Immigration) related services.

Monica worked with me for 8 months, I say “worked with me” and not “for me” due to the incredible job she did LISTENING to me. I always felt heard, she never left me without a response. She never sugar coated any aspect of my case. She supported each decision I made. I had extremely nasty moments of anxiety, and Monica continued to support and build me up. She treated my son and daughter with familial regard. Our situation was scary, sad, and complicated. Monica was able to keep positivity, encouragement and truth through the entire process and trial. Our family is truly thankful for her intelligence, attitude, and relentless work ethic. Monica gets the job done with skill and finesse!

I was referred to Monica by ELAP Legal Assistance Program in King County for my divorce trial. Monica Ontiveros is the attorney that took my case Pro Bono. Monica was exceptional from start to finish. Monica is very passionate about her work, and it shows. She was thorough when explaining legal procedures, documentation and court proceedings. Everything that needed to be filed was filed in a timely manner. Monica is the type of attorney that gives you confidence by making you feel like a partner with her rather than just a client. Her expertise gave me the confidence and proficiency to then go on to defend myself in my dissolution of marriage which overall ended in us winning the case! My maintenance was granted and for every issue addressed, the judge ruled in my favor! Even after Monica submitted her notice of withdrawal to the court, she still allowed me to reach out to her with any questions and during my trial I was able to text and call her with questions and concerns. This shows her heart and passion for her clients and the work that she does! Monica was equally as excited as I was when we won and her words of encouragement throughout this process were priceless! By the end of this I felt I gained a new friend because that's just how personable and genuine she is. Monica is one of the best attorneys in Washington State, and if anyone is looking for a lawyer that will go above and beyond the Call of Duty, Monica is the right attorney for you! This angel changed my life and I am eternally grateful!

I can’t fully express my gratitude for Sean Parrent and the incredible work he did on my case. From the moment he took it on, he didn’t just see me as another client—he genuinely took the time to understand every detail of my situation. Sean was thorough, dedicated, and relentless in his approach. He studied every aspect of the case, leaving no stone unturned, and made sure that my voice was heard. What truly touched me was how involved he was throughout the entire process. He fought for me like no one else could, with passion, intelligence, and heart. His determination and expertise gave me hope when I had almost none left. The outcome was nothing short of a miracle, and I owe it all to Sean’s hard work! John represented me in an alleged assault case, where a delivery person came on my property late at night and I mistook the person for an intruder, and then charges were pressed. He was able to get the other party to agree to sign a not prosecute agreement, and the judge then agreed to dismiss the case. It was a very stressful situation with threat of jail time but John got it done and knows his stuff. Highly recommend him. We received a knock on the door at 2am with the police looking for our son who had never been in trouble in his very young 18 year old life. The police arrested him for rape of a girl he was dating. By 7am I contacted a friend who recommended David. He returned our call in 30 minutes. This was the beginning of our 21 month nightmare. David walked us through every detail and kept this mom and son calm through it all. Because of David picking up on one small detail the case was dismissed and the protection order was even dropped by the so called victim. David went beyond what I hoped, especially when I thought all hope was gone. He believed in our son and went on to prove he was not wrong, even though the justice system doesn't seem to care about guilt or innocence. I would highly recommend David Mason to everyone.

There is justice. Anthony Zonal defended me for a domestic violence charge with my 25 year old son. I was falsely arrested and beaten. Spent four nights in jail during the Fourth of July holiday. I was removed from my home due to a no contact order. My 25 year old college graduate with a full time job had problems leaving a comfortable home. He was dealing with a DUI. and drinking every night. I was arrested due to the fact that evidence was withheld. The officer that came to my home did not know that I made contact. Tony was a life boat during a storm. All charges dismissed. Thank you Tony.

I came to Tony last summer after an unfortunate DUI. From day one he made me feel at ease. He treated me with respect at all times. He explained in detail the differences between the DOL and criminal hearings, stopping to make sure I understood every step. He spent time laying out the different outcomes that could come from a DUI conviction. He never promised an outcome, but purposed best case scenarios, making sure I knew there was no guarantee. He was always quick to respond when I had a question and always kept me informed with what was going on. He won my DOL hearing and was able to get my charges reduced to negligent driving of the first degree. Without hesitation I would strongly recommend Tony to anyone going through this.

Molly is an exceptionally skilled attorney who represented me in my divorce. She navigated a very difficult situation: an ex who wanted to relocate a young child out of state due to an affair, and in turn was aggressive and deceiving. Molly counseled me on how to handle the erratic nature of that behavior, and to continue focusing on the things that truly mattered -- my son and my relationship with him. Molly was especially valued at key moments, like a hearing for temporary orders, or during mediation and arbitration. She gets to the key points with compelling arguments that are grounded in the law, but imbued with humanity and heart. I'm so thankful to Molly for helping me maintain equal time with my son, and keeping my son, and thus me, here in Seattle.

By far the worst legal experience imaginable. If you are ever assigned them as a public defender do everything in your power to not have Mr. Lotskar or Deweirdt involved at any point and honestly I would ask for another law firm all together. These are the public defenders that are way to friendly with the prosecution and seem to advise clients in a way that benefits prosecution. They are extremely dense in terms of understanding what actual life is like for human beings outside of the court room after a decision has been made. They just want to process you and get you off of their books. By far the worst law firm I have ever worked with.

Everyone in the staff including Ms. Champion were very friendly and supportive. Ms. Champion explained her prospective strategy for the case both before I hired her and also prior to the case when the discovery was made available. I could tell from both encounters that she was very knowledgable and would present a well thought-out and effective case for my defense. I felt much more at ease after hiring her because I knew that I was in competent hands. Ultimately she got my negligent driving 2nd degree charge dismissed, and had the proof of insurance charge reduced to the minimum fine. I couldn't be happier with the results. Even if the case hadn't gone as well as it did, I would still be confident that Amelia fought hard and looked at all the options for my defense. Every case is different but I would recommend her to anyone in a similar situation. I would also recommend Callahan Law in general as I spoke to several other staff members and were impressed with there knowledge base and willingness to help me understand the legal process and the ins and outs of my case.

In April 2013 my wife called cops on me and I landed in jail on a Friday night. Kevin was contacted by my brother and he came to see me in jail and made me feel comfortable. He also secured my release on P.R. and I had an attorney at first appearance. Initially the redmond city prosecutor did not offer me plea deal because my wife was fully cooperating with them. However, Kevin stuck to his guns. After 6-8 months of protracted negotiations, he advised me to enter SOC. I thought we could be prosecutions case and prosecution thought they could prove their case, however; Kevin advised me to take a risk free approach and enter SOC. During this time my wife filed for divorce. I insisted that I be allowed to seek early dismissal after completion of SOC. After 8 months of protracted negotiations, even prosecutors didn't fight that. I completed my SOC in exactly 1 yr and 2 days. All throughout this time, prosecutor maintained a no contact order, hoping to catch me violating it. My divorce trial was barely 3-4 weeks away at the time of my SOC completion. I was able to convince the DV counselor at ABHC that i was not a threat to my wife, infact, I should never have been charged or made to go through DV class, then Kevin, Kevin moved lightening fast to seek dismissal of my case owing to early dismissal clause in SOC. He and I had to lean on the prosecutor and finally when it almost came to borderline of misconduct, the prosecutor after 1 week of service of proof of SOC completion, agreed to dismiss my case. About 2 weeks ahead of my divorce case, I got the dismissal order in my hand. All thanks and Kudos to Kevin. He is a true gentleman. He generally has good/civil relations with judges and prosecutors which certainly helped my case. In addition, he is extremely skilled at canvassing a witness and has tremendous people skills. Although we did not go to trial, I feel he gets a grasp of witness really quickly and will be a skilled cross examiner. He had really good idea of what my wife might say at trial and I had provided him with input on how to confront her. There was no other evidence against me except for her testimony, police statements and her cooperation with police and prosecutors. Kevin's conduct is also very ethical. There were other people whom he was defending had same court dates with me. Since I went to court almost 8-10 times, I saw Kevin's clients get much better deals than I had seen clients of other attorneys. I can assure you Kevin will get you a plea deal that will be in your best interest. I had told him, no conviction at any cost without a trial, not even on disorderly conduct and he accomplished just that an SOC, although everyone prefers complete dismissal. I believe this outcome was satisfactory and best achievable without a trial.

Kevin D. Tarvin was hired to defend me against the false charges of felony harassment filed by the known scam artist JC. His easy grace and inimitable integrity of character gave me confidence and insured the outcome of innocence on all counts. Tarvin kept me on track during an extremely stressful time after I was attacked by JC who filed her specious charges against me in an effort to cover for her alleged crime of fraud against me when it was discovered and consequently she was denied a legal document concerning my high end property, which she was attempting to rent in lieu of purchase. Tarvin also exposed the duplicitous nature of former attorneys Richard Llewellyn Jones and James W. Kovac who were both fired for gross negligence, incompetence and underhanded tactics. Through my investigations of JC I provided Tarvin with a five inch thick file indicating that JC had been involved with false accusations and criminal activity for numerous years against many other victims; the weight of this file alone was enough to make the compromised assistant district attorney, Julie Ann Mohr, drop her highly suspicious prosecution of me and the false charges were subsequently dismissed. Kevin informed me on two occasions that Jones/Kovac had compromised me; the first of which was when he had a conversation with Julie Mohr concerning the advances of Kovac /Jones to have me delivered up on a lesser charge of disorderly conduct instead of the felony harassment charge and again when he was approached by Jones who requested that Tarvin assist him in an upcoming mal-practice suit I'd filed against Jones; Tarvin refused Jones' entreaties. I was further charged, again falsely, for a violation of a no contact order by JC, but this time she had the willing efforts of two Kirkland Police Officers Jacob Thune and Christopher Packard who lifted language from an NCIC document rather than use the actual court order, of which I was falsely charged with violating. On this occasion the Prosecuting Attorney from Kirkland knowingly prosecuted me based on the fabricated evidence provided by the offending officers. The trial was heard by Judge Michael Lambo. I was pronounced innocent and exonerated on the false charge. The falsification of evidence by these two officers is a felony. The charges I brought against them were investigated by Lt. John Haslip of Kirkland Internal Affairs Division; in his opinion my charges were "unfounded" because the officers "believed" that the language they used was in the court order, but that neither officer had obtained the actual court order in direct conflict with standard procedure. The fact is that these officers did fabricate this evidence as researched by Tarvin and ironically verified by Haslip in his report needs to be addressed. This latter action was brilliantly researched and executed with intricate accuracy by Kevin D. Tarvin. Tarvin was paid a sum total of $12,750 for his efforts on my behalf. I am now ruined due to the specious and fraudulent efforts of a legal system gone mad and the easily discernible, but alleged false charges of a seemingly adroit sociopath, JC, who is now herself the subject of this same system due to my efforts to analyze her crimes and author the criminal complaint, which after a two year investigation by Hugo Torres the King County Prosecutor's Office has handed down a twelve count indictment for multiple fraud, first/second degree theft resulting in the recent arrest of JC in Kalispell, Montana. She is fighting extradition. JC had resisted arrest. I am the progenitor of the May 11th, 2011 Seattle Weekly front page feature titled "Home Wrecker", which was the first such public exposure to JC in the Seattle area shaming Assistant DA Julie Ann Mohr into backing down from her suspicious prosecution on behalf of JC. I highly recommend Kevin d. Tarvin

Kevin represented me on a DUI case. I was given Kevin's information by referral, and after meeting with several different attorney's, I knew Kevin was the right attorney, immediately. I didn't have the easiest case in the world, as there was an accident involved, yet somehow Kevin talked his way into a reduced charge- Reckless Driving. It was a horrible experience, but Kevin eased through the process & made it as worry-free as possible. He is familiar with the courts and the judges, which helps. His fees were reasonable & he didn't make me feel like it was about the money, as many other attorney's did, he genuinely wanted to help. I highly recommend hiring Kevin for any matter.

I was pulled over for doing 91mph in a 70mph zone. My license was suspended at the time. I hired Mr George and he was very easy to work with. Very professional and high recommend. I ended up getting all charges dropped with no fees, thanks to his help. Excellent attorney!

I had consulted Nick George for a dui. He seemed friendly at first and eager to help me beat my case. He quoted me $3,000 for the whole case and I obliged. I’ve never gotten a DUI before and I had no idea what any of it would entail. As I was asking questions, he never thoroughly answered any of them but ensured me that he would help me out. By my first initial court date right before I would see the judge he told me we would be going for a deferred prosecution. He told me what to say and everything would be fine. I did what he said. He told me with a deferred prosecution I would have to take classes and do some meetings for a little while. Didn’t seem so bad. Unfortunately due to my nativity, I later found out that a deferred prosecution meant a five year probation program that was very strenuous, expensive and ultimately not worth it. Two years of treatment, two years of 12 step meetings, no alcohol for two years while being tested, monthly probation officer visits, ignition interlock, and five total years of active probation. I also found out that many DUI lawyers will do a deferred prosecution for much much much much much less than the $3,000 I paid nick george. By my next court date, he did not inform me that he would not be there to represent me, instead a colleague showed in his place. I understand though, sometimes you just can’t make it, but he didn’t even let me know beforehand. In between all this I would call Nick to ask questions and he was always short with me and acted frustrated that I had the audacity to call him in the first place. I would seek counsel elsewhere. Clearly, having me ask for a deferred prosecution was much easier than putting in the work to try and beat my case or at least get it amended. Would not recommend in any case.

In my opinion Nick George is only after money, I am what by law is called a Guaranior and I hired him for a criminal case against another party. After being paid very quickly Mr. George had stereotyped his own client by his race. He was fired as soon as possible, . I could not believe a defense lawyer would say that about his own client. I would not trust him as a criminal, civil and especially not an immigration lawyer. My advice is to learn as much as you can on a lawyer before hiring him.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
