I never expected to need a criminal defense attorney, but when I did, a quick Google search lead me to David Freidberg. After a consultation I decided to hire him and it turned out to be an excellent decision. Throughout the two-year case, David was professional, easy to communicate with, reliable, and honest with expectations. After firing my first attorney who literally took my 10K retainer and advised me to "plead guilty, sell your house and move," boy am I glad I stumbled across Mr. Klein. I didn't know about AVVO at the time, but real client reviews are probably the best way to judge a potential attorney.
By the time I hired Mr. Klein on several convoluted and grossly exaggerated matters that had ballooned out of hand, which included OOP and VOOP, he was able to get the OOP vacated and VOOPs dismissed, which seemed initially like an impossible task, especially since the original attorney bungled the case so badly and several months had elapsed.
In the end, I received court supervision for one separate case, with all others dismissed.
About Mr. Klein's style: He's a great communicator. Available, responsive, patient, and explains things in detail (and many of the details can easily get confusing). Sometimes he gets gruff or short when he is in the middle of fighting hard for your case, so trust that he is placing his energy where it needs to go and will get back to you later to explain the finer details.
A word about pricing: A friend advised me, be wary of attorneys who charge you by the hour, because you can't really know how much time they have actually spent on the case. I found this out the hard way, when my original attorney kept over 3K of my original retainer, after doing pretty much nothing on my cases. Mr. Klein in contrast offered transparent pricing, telling me exactly what his cost was for each matter in full, and additional fees if the case went to bench trial vs. jury trial (it didn't.)
If you have any pending criminal matter and need a great attorney, I unequivocally recommend Steve Klein!

I was so happy I got Ayah as my lawyer. I was accused of evading the police when I didn't do anything! I was riding my bike with a group of riders when the police pulled over the wrong person. I was charged/framed for a serious crime, my family and I were at a loss as to how we would find a good lawyer. Everyone thought that I would go to prison. My family found Joshua B. Kutnick, and they hired him. Frankly, I was not certain that he would be able to win my case, yet I waited for the results. Prior to the trial date, he invested/worked as though he was a brother or father to me, within this cruel world I realized that humility still lives. On the day of trial, my nerves were wrecked. He went in and WOW! my case was dismissed, with no penalties. I was speechless, as was everyone else with the results. That was all due to the hard work and prowess of Joshua Kutnick, this honorable man has 18 years of experience under his belt. I normally don’t write lengthy reviews, however, I know that nobody’s absolutely perfect, everyone faces is accused once, if you’re charged, the most beneficial things you could have would be this lawyer. Thus, use him to your benefit. Do not assign a lawyer with a lack of background/experience who will only feed you empty promises, to get hold of your money, which will result in a bad outcome. My wife and I are parents to a special needs child. We have a long history of partnering with the administrators in the school district and the special education teachers at the school. Despite this an inexperienced teacher, with little knowledge of the history, filed a DCFS report on us over a story our child told. Although the school district and the experienced teachers supported my wife and I, as required by law, we would have to go through a full DCFS investigation. A friend with knowledge of the DCFS pointed us in the direction of Marie Taraska, whom we hired after an initial consultation. Maire walked us through the entire DCFS process and was there for us from start to finish. Marie’s knowledge of the DCFS law and her experience working in the system not only gave confidence that our case would be resolved positively but also reaffirmed our belief in ourselves as parents. With Marie’s help our case was unfounded in short order. If you find yourself in our situation and facing a DCFS investigation, I highly recommend Marie Taraska. Do not have a friend who happens to be lawyer represent you and do not hire someone who doesn’t specialize in DCFS law. The DCFS is its own entity with its own rules and only a lawyer who knows this system like Marie can work fast and effectively to clear your name and put the matter behind you.

Last April I worked for a school district in the south suburbs and was assigned as a monitor for a special needs child. To no fault of her own, the child was combative and had a flight response and would stop at nothing to get out of her seat belts while the bus was moving. While trying to keep her in her safety restraints, I was falsely accused of slapping the child. Naturally, I was terrified and felt helpless. My experience/journey with Courtney Kelledes has been a pleasant and knowledgeable one. I contacted her for help with a years long ongoing situation which had been taken upon by other lawyers with no resolve. After explaining my situations and concerns she informed me that she would contact me after reviewing my info with her partners. I was contacted back shortly where she told me, while she could not make guarantees she and her partners did find merit in my cause, requests and ultimately my goal. From there Courtney laid out a precise step by step strategy with options for said steps. After that it was blast off as she went to work on my behave legally while thoroughly explaining steps, goals, expectations and timelines. Today I made my final appearance at the Daley Center after nearly three years of court dates. Ava was by my side through it all, and I couldn’t recommend her with more appreciation and sincerity.
She is fierce and intelligent as a lawyer, and someone you can trust. Her accomplishments speak for themselves, but beyond that is well known and admired by everyone at the courthouse, from the judges and prosecutors to the clerks and janitors.

I was already on a suspension from a previous DUI that I was found not guilty for. Someone somehow use my name for driving while my license was suspended . The court wanted me to plead guilty and gave me no chance to explain myself until I found this lawyer.
