I was in an auto accident and needed some consultation. Becky spoke with me for nearly 20 minutes, answering all my questions, and was extremely kind and helpful. I am hoping to settle privately with the other party, but if that falls through I plan to retain the services of Burton and Beale. Would highly recommend.

Just trying to find a dental malpractice lawyer in the Denver area was not easy. I got Very lucky when I reached out to Bucks office. They contacted me quickly and spent time getting to know me and my case. It wasn't all about how much money my case was worth, as other firms can be. They investigated my claims and realized pretty quickly that I had a malpractice suit. Buck and Alex were great at explaining the process and sharing the things coming to light in my records. I had relocated to a different state and they worked with my current dentists diligently to get the real story. The process can make you a little crazy (at least it did me 😁), but they worked with me to make some difficult decisions. In the end we settled, but I was able to get the money to help restore my dental health and I can't thank them enough. If you need dental malpractice help, Buck should be your choice. Don't sit in pain. If someone should pay for poor dental care, make them. Call Buck.

Mark Galler lost $90k of my money. He told me that my witness did not show up over phone or in person, but he was on the phone waiting for over 2 hours. I felt like Mark Galler and the other party had too much coordination in the courtroom for someone who wasn't represented, and when I asked for the communication record, I was told I'd need to pay for it too. They knew full well that they had taken all my money and had the audacity to tell me I needed to pay more to them to find evidence of collusion.

I came to Andrew Bryant last year after dealing with a chaotic separation. I had two children with my ex and she had made my life extremely difficult with communication, scheduling, doctor appointments, schooling and multiple other issues. Heather took me as a client and immediately my life got easier, she communicated with my ex during the entire process and made sure everything went as smoothly as possible. She was extremely professional and got me fully prepared for trial. She walked us through each step we were going to take during the trial and eased us through the entire situation. By the end of the trial the judge removed all my child support obligations and gave me full 50/50 rights. Since the case she has checked in with us multiple times and made sure everything is still running smoothly, which it is! The last 5 months since the trial have been so much easier dealing with my ex now that everything is set in stone. We are very happy with all the work Heather and the the team at Andrew Bryant did for us! 10/10 would definitely recommend!

My name is Rachel Newton. In January 2024 I hired Heather Atkinson to represent me in my child custody case. Heather and Donna (paralegal) were wonderful representation. I knew they cared about myself and my case. Opposing council, representing the other party, was Greg Maceau. In about August 2024, Heather contacted me to let me know that Mr. Maceau would be moving over to Andrew Bryant’s law firm, and that it would be ok because there would be a “Chinese wall” implemented so Mr. Maceau would not have access to my case. My trial was set for October 2024, and two days prior to trial, Ms. Atkinson was disqualified as representing me as my lawyer because Andrew Bryant had hired Mr. Maceau to his law firm. Andrew Bryant and Mr. Maceau had told Ms. Atkinson this was ok, but upon reviewing rule, did not obtain the other party’s signature saying it was ok for Ms. Atkinson to continue to represent me after Mr. Maceau moved to the law firm. Ms. Atkinson called to apologize about the situation, and I had to find and retain a new lawyer, my trial date canceled and postponed. Obviously this was very distressing after already waiting for 10 months to go to trial, and spending a lot of money and time. Andrew Bryant could have waited two months to hire Mr. Maceau. He could have notified me that I needed to find a new lawyer prior to paying his lawyers to prep for my trial. Andrew Bryant never called me, tried to remediate the situation, or provide me assistance, even though this occurred because of his negligence and oversight. All I got was an invoice for $5k for my attorney and paralegal prepping for trial, and then turned around and had to pay another $5k retainer to hire a new attorney. Not to mention the lawyer fees that have accrued for the new lawyer to set a new trial date, have a new status conference hearing, prep for trial, etc. etc. While I would always recommend Heather and Donna as representation, I do not think it is the best idea to hire Andrew Bryant as your representing law firm. It might just cost you an extra $15k to your lawyer fees.

David Hansen represented my family as plaintiffs and guided us through to a successful mediation outcome for a real estate case that we brought to him. We reached out due to their great reputation in the community and the firm's involvement with the South Denver Chamber of Commerce, my family always strives to support local business! David and his firm were professional, communicative, and represented our interests in confident fashion. Despite the negative feelings and occurances we had from the purchase of our home, working with Kumpf Charsley & Hansen was a pleasure and they instilled confidence in us. If ever in need again, I will certainly reach out to this firm.

I had an excellent experience with Fort Collins Family Law. They were incredibly responsive and professional throughout my case. Ms. Lamborne took the time to thoroughly understand my situation and what was important to me. She offered several approaches and developed a plan of action that resulted in a very positive mutual outcome. Ms. Dandeneu was also very responsive and organized, ensuring seamless communication. Invoices and expenses were clear and agreeable, with no unexpected charges or surprises. Their legal advice was knowledgeable, and they clearly defined the positive and negative implications of our strategy. I was very happy working with the team and would strongly recommend them to a friend. I will continue to have them represent me without hesitation going forward.

I cannot recommend Sarah enough! No one wants to have to deal with family court issues, but if you do, this is absolutely the law firm to use! Throughout the entire process, Sarah was knowledgeable, kind, empathetic, organized, and realistic. My emails/calls were always answered quickly, and Sarah was always clear and honest as far as what to expect, giving her advice while also listening to my concerns. My only regret is I didn't use her when I first got divorced, haha...this was for a bunch of post-decree stuff, that unfortunately went allllll the way to a hearing. In the courtroom, Sarah was clearly much more prepared than the other counsel, organized, and had made sure I was very clear on what to expect/do, and you can tell she is smart, quick, (and also tough as she cross-examines!) I ended up getting not just everything I wanted, but extra things I didn't expect as well. However, even the outcome was less than that, I would still be recommending her, because of how helpful and amazing she and her staff were for the entire years-long process leading up to this. She was also fair in her billing, (and didn't let the other party or my witness run extra time on the billing clock.) I hope you never need a family attorney, but if you do, this is the one to use.

We hired Ariel Defazio for our young adult son's discrimination case, and she truly is an amazing lawyer! She is not only compassionate, easy to work with, and dedicated to helping others, but she is also tenacious—someone you want on your side who will not easily give in. If you want someone who truly has your back and has your best interests at heart, choose Ariel and her team. Ariel went above and beyond for our son to ensure his rights were protected. She empowered him and advocated for him every step of the way, treating him as an important person. She taught him to be unafraid of standing up for himself, especially in the face of discrimination related to his disability. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Ariel! I wish there were more people like you in this world!

I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible support I received from Erika and their entire team during an extremely stressful time following a bad car accident. From the very beginning, they were by my side, guiding me through every step of the legal process with patience and compassion. It wasn’t just about legal advice – they genuinely cared about my well-being and provided constant reassurance during a time when I needed it the most. Erika was not only professional and knowledgeable, but also kind, understanding, and incredibly dedicated to my case. The bond we created felt personal, and I knew I could rely on them no matter what came up. They fought hard for me, and I always felt they had my best interests at heart. Their entire team was absolutely amazing – responsive, empathetic, and supportive throughout the entire process. I am so, so grateful for their hard work and dedication. If you are ever in need of a lawyer who truly cares, I highly recommend Erika and their team.

My situation was incredibly challenging. Arnie got me the absolute best result without question. I was charged with Felony DUI, Hit & Run. Most importantly, the injury was non-life-threatening and everyone walked away from the accident. However, I was facing jail time, a criminal record and would have to serve time in Colorado as someone who resides in Pennsylvania. I have a successful career in research and faced losing it all due to my poor decision. I spoke with every reputable attorney in the area, including the team who represented Kobe Bryant. However, from the minute I spoke to Arnie he assured me that this was a "hiccup in life" and that I would get through it. I will never forget that, and he was right. Arnie gathered all of the information not only the night of the accident, but of me and my personal situation, including the recent death of my father, successful contributions to society and collated the "full picture". I flew back and forth from PA to CO for hearings and Arnie always ensured it was smooth and necessary. He constantly reassured me that everything was under control and that we would take this to trial, if necessary. As an obsessive researcher, he would agree I was a very tough client to keep calm, but his confidence and aggressive mentality was evident and reassuring. I trusted and followed his instructions as I was told. Arnie got me the best possible and appropriate sentence, which consisted of only probation and standard DUI classes. His negotiations and discussions with the DA while providing an accurate description of me and my situation made all of the difference. I am forever grateful. If you ever need an attorney in the area, Arnie is your guy.

I’m rating based on my full years experience with Amelia. While things went great at first- Amelia was very cordial, professional, and empathetic, she saw where I was being mishandled by law enforcement and treated with contempt by them by way of discrimination. She understood that I was being challenged by not only my case, but the bias and prejudice of the courts. She was able to adapt to all of this and got me a great outcome a year ago. Now I am at the end of the end of this litigious tunnel, and I’ve sought her counsel again to see it through, having filled all of the requirements on my end to do so in the timeframe allotted. I’m not an attorney nor do I portend to know all the ins and outs of the legal system. I don’t know if I need an attorney to represent me to close out my case, but with the system already having a historic prejudice against people like me, I felt it better safe than sorry to be prepared. This is where it’s all gone sour. I’ve always presented money up front because I don’t expect free counsel. I’ve always just asked how much money Amelia would want to review the same case she represented me on this time last year. If not to represent me, I’d be just as happy to pay to receive her input on what I should expect and what I need to bring to close out my case. That could be as little as 15m-1hr. My case is due for review in August. This month. I’ve been trying to reach her through her office for months intermittently/ passively, at most 1 email per month, until this past week where I wanted to give it one concerted effort to establish contact. I called the office twice, left two emails, and received the offices answering service once. We had a 15m consultation scheduled which she no-call no-showed for. Her office assistant thought that was weird and said he left her a message, which also went unanswered. The emails- one to Amelia and one to her assistant, both went unanswered. The answering service said that they’d pass the message along that I was trying to reach her, which also went unanswered. That was a waste of days of my time I could’ve used trying to find an attorney that was willing to see things through to the end. If Amelia had something against me personally and didn’t want to take the case- the professional thing to do would be to say as much so I’m not spinning wheels on something that isn’t going to budge. Even hearing as much from the paraprofessionals or office staff would have sufficed. My time is valuable, too. Ghosting isn’t a professional behavior. What a sad outcome to end this experience with.

Amelia Power is hands down the most knowledgeable and empathetic and well spoken attorney I’ve ever worked with. The value of what she did for me in my DUI case was unsurpassable. She knows so much case law and was able to effectively apply it to my unique circumstances. Additionally, If you ever need to appeal a conviction, I would highly recommend hiring Amelia for your case.

Full disclosure, I couldn't afford them. But they tried working with me and came up with many ways to try and help me. Even when I wasn't being responsive Arra would call and text me with new ideas to help and sometimes just to make sure I was ok. They showed me that they respected my veteran status and had more heart and compassion than anyone else I had called by miles.

I can't speak to the other lawyers at this firm, but I had a very disturbing experience with Andrew Castle, who represented one of my friends in a relatively high profile case. Unfortunately, my friend was found guilty on all 7 counts. And my friend and I weren't really sure of what to do. I asked him if there was any way I could use my platform to try to help? And my friend said that it might help, but that we should first ask his lawyer Andrew, before doing anything. We had agreed that this was a good idea, and I sent an email asking what Andrew thought, making it very clear that I wouldn't do anything if that made him or my friend uncomfortable. When I asked Andrew if using my platform would be of any use, Andrew's response was very aggressive. I asked him why he was being aggressive, when I already had agreed to not doing anything that he didn't feel comfortable with. To my surprise, his response was to tell me to stop talking to his client, my friend, while he was in custody. It was a very jarring experience as I simply wanted to try to help my friend, and again, had no interest in doing anything that would make my friend or Andrew feel uncomfortable. I also found this to be very disturbing, as I imagine being in jail is tough, and someone in jail might want to have as many friends as possible to talk to. However, because I didn't want to further anger Andrew, I and others stopped talking to our friend until he was out of custody. I think that's an incredibly horrible and cruel position to put all of us in, as we simply wanted to provide emotional support throughout an incredibly tough time. I found Andrew to be extremely insecure, aggressive, and unprofessional. If you or someone you care about is going through a legal process, it's generally a very painful time, and having a lawyer lash out in these ways really adds to the stress of that. I would highly recommend finding a lawyer who can treat others in a professional manner, or at least with a kind mentality.

Barry went above and beyond in so many ways. As his client, I was expecting professionalism and efficiency - both of which he executed flawlessly. What I was not expecting was how well he not only managed my expectations of my case, but the extent to which he made me feel heard, believed in my innocence and how understanding he was of the mental health impact that my situation was having on me. He provided me with the perfect amount of urgency in getting on top of the matter while also providing a sense of calm to keep me level-headed. My case was immediately dismissed at pre-trial - all thanks to the level of attention to detail and the clarity in which he presented my case to the DA. I cannot recommend his services enough & am so thankful for all the work he did to return my life back to normal.

Sean Harrell is an extraordinary criminal defense attorney. I had another lawyer handling my felony case for 9 months, and I was going to trial with her. The dates had all been set. It was terrifying. I was innocent and knew I had not received proper representation. I was referred to Sean by Bob P., who had been an Assistant DA. Sean was able to take my case, he jumped right in, and at the first hearing, he asked to start the case over. The judge agreed. Within 3 months, Sean was able to discuss the case with the DA, point out some major problems with their case, and they came to an agreement, there was no reasonable likelihood of success at trial—and the case was dismissed. DISMISSED!! The best news I had received in quite a while!! I am thankful for Sean Harrell. He is honest, hard working, professional, reliable, and does his job very well. Sean made ALL the difference in my case. All the evidence, the DA, the judge, all the same. Sean got my freedom back for me. I am eternally grateful for that. And I must mention his staff, all the people working with him — who are always there, almost always able to get in touch with him, friendly and competent. Highly recommend!! June

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
