Very unpleasant experience talking to Cindy. I was shocked at how rude she was. I was immediately turned off from using this law firm due to this.

My wife decided to divorce me after 35 years of marriage. I was very concerned about what this would do to my financial future, and especially being late in my career, my future retirement. I had heard many horror stories about how the laws in Kansas favor the female in a divorce. Only having very limited experience with lawyers, I decided to treat my lawyer selection like an interview process. I scheduled meetings with 2 lawyers to get started. Prior to my meeting with the lawyers, I reviewed all of my divorce papers in great detail. I identified several significant concerns with the terms that my ex’s legal counsel created. My first lawyer meeting was with Desiree Smith. When I met with Desiree, my first question was about how she was going to represent me. Was I just a lost cause, because I was a male, or was she going to fight for everything she could get for me to protect my future retirement? She reassured me that she was working for me, and she would be doing everything she could for me. She asked me several general questions to understand our financial situation, and then laid out the typical scenarios that could happen in my situation. That immediately set me at ease, knowing that my financial future was not ruined, and that I had a path forward. She then reviewed the terms in the divorce papers. Within only 3-4 minutes of review, and without my assistance, she identified every concern I had about their terms, and a couple more that I hadn’t noticed. At that point, I knew I had found the right person to represent me, and I didn't need to meet with the next lawyer. Throughout the rest of the divorce process, Desiree’s experience and knowledge showed in every conversation we had. She could quickly discuss detail, easily recall detail from previous meetings, easily answer questions, and was able to help me think through strategies for moving forward. Every meeting I had with her was very productive. In the end, Desiree helped get a great settlement for me, and we did it without going to court. I got a far better settlement than I ever thought possible in the beginning, and I feel like I probably got a better settlement that most divorced men. Desiree was a very big part of making that happen. I can’t say enough about her knowledge, and how she could explain legal concepts in ways easy for me to understand. Desiree was very easy to work with. I would highly recommend Desiree to help anyone through their family legal needs!

Hatem is the best criminal lawyer in Lawrence! The two times I have needed Hatem’s help, he has exuded confidence and calmness. Two things very helpful in an anxiety inducing court situation. He is a great communicator and knows what he’s doing. I couldn’t recommend Hatem enough! He got a case of mine dismissed that could have been very detrimental to my record. Thanks Hatem!!!

Being mis informed by a legal aid of this firm is the same as asking my atty when I or my wife called.was told last week that my wc settlement would have to have an exemption but we wouldn't have to wait or turn check in which turns out false.i should have asked for a meeting to discuss what I could or could not do not being an attorney it was easy to misinterpret what Raquel was trying to tell me.

Mr. Boeckman is a different breed of lawyers, one of the most kind and compassionate humans, none the less lawyers, I have ever spoken with. He helped me in every way he could and informed me of the legal process in a way I could easily understand it. He addressed all of my concerns and was very patient and understanding the whole way through. It was not a hard case that I had but very few lawyers would actually consult or listen to what I had to say. One lawyer was going to charge me seven times the amount that Boeckman did. He is an incredibly reasonable person, I am beyond grateful that he was willing to help me.

Imagine that you hire a painter to paint your house inside and out, you pay him for all the work so that he does the job well, then he paints you inside and then tells you that he will no longer do the job for you for X reason. and that you look for another painter, you tell him that there is no problem but that he return part of the money that you gave him, and that you never hear from him again... what would you do???? That happened to me with this lawyer. If there was the option to give it zero stars she would do it. She and her assistant are not professionals, the assistant treats you very badly as if she was doing you a favor. very bad service and very bad experience. I never recommend them. imagina que contratas un pintor para que pinte tu casa por dentro y por fuera, le pagas todo el trabajo para que te haga bien el trabajo, entonces, el te pinta por dentro y luego te dice que ya no te hará el trabajo por X razón y que busques a otro pintor, tu le dices que no hay problema pero q te devuelva parte del dinero que le diste, y no vuelvas a saber más de él... ustedes que harían???? eso me pasó con esta abogada. si hubiera la opción de ponerle cero estrellas lo haría. ella y su asistente no son profesionales, la asistente te trata muy mal como si te estuviera haciendo un favor. muy mal service y muy mala experiencia. no los recomiendo nunca.

To retain Chris as my attorney was the best decision I made in my difficult situation. He is very professional and respectful attorney and always take time to guide you through the whole process and make sure that you understand every step. I couldn’t be happier with the result he achieved. I would highly recommend him to everyone who gets in troubles with law, he will be on your side and will get the job done with the best possible result.

This law firm I would not recommend to anyone !!!!! I was in the hospital for months after having abdominal surgery , In which I was referred to Parmele for consultation and possible representation . I agreed to allow them access to my medical files for review to determine further action . In the interim and prior to surgery was working with disability help Group to establish a case for benefits . Adam neidenberg was my attorney with disability help group . Parmele law firm attached themselves to my disability case and have asked for a percentage , after doing nothing ! They reviewed my case for medical negligence and declined to represent , but are holding to a percentage of establishing my disability case and it’s criminal at best ! Do NOT use them for anything ! The service from the very start was awful. I literally talked with the paralegal Ashley. So many times indicating you DONT represent me , But my signature to release my records was used to indicate some connection to receive payment to the point it is holding up my disability payout ! My true attorney felt so bad the with drew their request for payment ! Awful business

Tina and the rest of the staff are amazing! I finally feel like I have someone on my side. I have dealt with several attorneys that talk a big game and then just bill you for a ton of random things with no results. Tina and staff go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and taken care of. My divorce felt hopeless before Tina came on board, I can finally start to breathe again.

I've been a client of Randall Price for over 20 yrs now and he's always gotten satisfactory results in my cases. I still have him as my lawyer on my Workman's Compensation case with a school. He put a lot of hours into this case!! It was a super difficult case. He went to bat for me then and is still going to bat for me against the Work Comp insurance company's shenanigan's. He will always have your back as your lawyer too!! He's a real nice guy, always asking how I'm doing when I call if I have a question or problem. I'm truly blessed to have found him !

I recently had the privilege of working with Lora Ingels during a deeply personal and critical legal process involving the co-guardianship of my nephew. Lora was referred by another trusted attorney, and she exceeded every expectation. She not only brought a high level of professionalism and expertise to the table but also a compassionate and understanding approach that made a significant difference. Lora ensured that my nephew was fully aware of every aspect of the process and comfortable discussing his situation. Her ability to communicate complex legal matters in an accessible and reassuring manner was truly remarkable. Throughout the process, she maintained the highest standards of advocacy and empathy. If you are looking for a family attorney who will treat your legal needs with the utmost care and dedication, I cannot recommend Lora Ingels highly enough. Her commitment to her clients and her exceptional legal skills make her an outstanding choice for anyone in need of family legal assistance. Corey L.

Jennifer Goheen and her associates are the absolute best people to have in your corner during your legal battle, no matter how large or small the matter you need assistance with. She is never going back down against any fight and never fails to design a rock-solid strategy and adjust it accordingly to all hurdles thrown into the mix. Her advice itself has never led her clients astray but when she steps into the courtroom, the other attorneys slated against her clients are known to visibly quake in their seats - and often, they will entirely recuse themselves from the case to avoid the inevitable crushing loss. If you need an all-star, tough as nails and unshakable attorney for your legal fight, Jen is hands down the BEST person to hire. I cannot say that her services are cheap, because you're paying for pure dedication and a guaranteed win, but that's worth every single penny when you absolutely need a judgement in your favor. I've recommended Jen to my nearest and dearest friends and family for years and I recommend her to anyone who reads this. She is more than an attorney - she's a rockstar.

Began my divorce during a deployment, circumstances beyind our control made it drag out longer than I'm sure any of us hoped, however they worked really well for me. Only reason I gave 4 stars is due to paperwork issues of having to request something to be fixed multiple times. Possibly due to clarity/communication issues.

Well organized, super responsive. She has a way of speaking that cut straight to the chase - a no-nonsense communication style I was grateful for, since it meant she grasped the topic and kept billable hours short. Jaylynn is magic. An excellent team - was glad to have them in my corner!

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
