I hired David represent me in the courtroom for a PFA case. The reason I hired Dave because he seems knowledgeable behind closed doors. In the courtroom David was a totally different animal. If I had to compare him to someone it would be the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. It was a sad thing to watch. If I didn't know any better I would say it was his first time ever being in the courtroom . First off,the police report My main evidence wasn't even allowed to be presented. As you can imagine everything went downhill from there.

I am grateful for the services rendered and absolutely resolved in my case for consumer protection. Mr. Mulock took copious notes in order to completely understand my case. I am aware of the hours of work that backed-up my complaint legally. He competently and reasonably negotiated a more than fair settlement out of court. Mr. Mulock was very easy to speak with and demonstrated excellent communication skills both written and verbal. His legal outline of the case for presentation was excellent and in it I had total confidence in the event that litigation was necessitated. Thank you David.

Terry represented me in my divorce. He was professional, straightforward and did not sugarcoat anything. The divorce process took longer than I would have liked but that was due to an ex-husband who didn’t want to cooperate and the legal system in general. In the end I received a nice settlement and my divorce. I highly recommend Terry and will continue to seek legal advice from him as needed.

In hindsight, I would have saved myself time, money, and the stress if I had NOT hired Graffius. Errors were made on documents that I MYSELF pointed out but were not corrected. As a result, my case and grief drug on even longer due to resubmitting the corrected documents. Apparently, Mr. Graffius needs to recognize and remember that the average person is not familiar with the details of legal proceedings and that IS THE VERY REASON that people hire lawyers!! I do not think it is expecting too much for a lawyer to be organized, clear and concise about what is needed from his/her clients, rather than condescending and seemingly annoyed when a client simply doesn't know. I would have saved myself at least 5 months of waiting and the money I paid for his " absentee service" had I just gone online and done most of the work myself.

Okay turns out Matt isn’t reliable and actually is the worst I’ve ever had. He knows all the right things to say to string u along but wen it comes down to it, he’s only about money and will screw u at trial by not showing up. This guy actually had the balls to offer to help me pro-bono w/custody of my 2 yr old baby girl but never showed up to court on the day trial was starting. If I wasn’t able to come to an agreement w/my ex that day I could have lost custody of my child b/c of this twatwaffle atty Matt. How r u gonna offer to help me n then leave me hanging high n dry. I didn’t ask for his crap representation. U can’t just go around messing w/ ppls lives like that. Especially wen kids r involved. That’s just the lowest of the low. I retained him for driving on a DUI suspended license, (Even tho I was found not-guilty on said DUI) but nevertheless I wondered into his office and retained him because he's known as a fighter in mostly the federal arena so he's not to worried about stepping on MDJ's toes he got the case tossed on a bad service, well he sent an associate to handle his dirty work which was my only issue with his services but he was probley busy trying to save some other poor soul. I'd recommend him.

I hired Paul for a DUI case. My many attempts to contact him via phone, appointment and emails went unheeded for weeks on end. Completely exasperated, I decided to send an ultimatum that said how disrespectful I found his lack of communication, and if it persisted, I would terminate the relationship. All I received in response was a VM that basically dared me to fire him. Ultimately, I decided to sever the relationship because I did not trust that he had my best interests at heart. From what I've heard about him, I do believe he is knowledgable with the cases that he cares about. If you're not one of those, then you'll be lucky to receive a response in a month's time. Apparently he spends a large portion of his day in court, so I understand that can cause a delay in response time, but court ends at 4 pm, so no excuse to not be in touch after that. Or at the very least an acknowledgement that you received my messages and would get back to me in an appropriate time. I'm a working professional, and we're all busy. That excuse holds no water for me. Ultimately, I did not find my experience with him to be worth my time or money.

This guy sold me on empty promises (like most pay-lawyers), then after he was paid he sang a different tune. The only thing he actually did was get my hearing moved around (which I could've done). He got livid because I demanded to go thru with my prelim (he and his DA friend laughed all morning and Bill then gave me about 60 seconds before the hearing to tell me I should plead guilty). When I refused he said "Ok fine, I'm gonna teach you something about the legal system today" then proceeded to deliberately lose the hearing, even going to far as to SUPPORT the so called victim and help the DA. He then told me to "face reality" despite the case being he said/she said garbage over a txt message. He then made jokes on his law firm's Facebook page about this incident the same evening! I have screenshots of it and will gladly share. Then he later spoke to the media and helped the DA revoke my bail. When I confronted him he blew me off and found the entire thing very amusing. If this isn't misconduct then that tells you exactly what you need to know about this company man. He serves his own bank account, and the DA of Dauphin County. It's just a game to them. They're on the same side. WWF was more realistic. DO NOT HIRE BILL FULTON. He will take your money and weasel his way into your case while keeping secrets and never giving info, and then try to force you into a hasty decision last minute (like most lawyers especially ones with an office a block from the courthouse).

Mr. Fulton quickly and effectively intervened on my behalf when I was notified by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT) that my driver's license was not eligible for renewal due to the suspension of a driver's license in another jurisdiction based on National Driver Register records. Having dealt unsatisfactorily with two lawyers in New Jersey, Attorney Wayne Sachs took up my case and perfectly executed it to the best possible resolution. Attorney Mitchell was superb in successfully presenting my immigration case. The duo alleviated the stress of dealing with the legal system by always apprising me of the stages of my case and advising on the best options to take in resolving my problems. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism and the services they have rendered on my behalf and would not hesitate to recommend Sachs law group to family members, friends, or anybody else looking for experienced criminal-immigration attorneys.

Wayne Sachs is the worst attorney in Philadelphia. After being paid $10,000, he skipped 3 of my court hearing! What lawyer doesn't show up to court? The first 3 times the complaining witnessed also didn't show up, and instead of fighting for me, Wayne sat at home relaxing. When he did show up finally on the fourth trial, he abused my trust and used my ignorance of the criminal code against me. He advised me to take a plea deal to the misdemeanor of the second degree when I was actually only guilty of a third degree misdemeanor by lying to me and saying it is better than a third degree. DO NOT hire this man. He is a lazy cheat!

When I was represented by Mr. Scomillio, he refused to call these witnesses at my trial and refused to allow me to tesitify. He did this at a side bar. Mr. Scomillio refused to discredit the prosecution's witnesses when they were blatantly perjuring themselves. He had the documentation right in front of him to discredit them, but he refused. Mr. Scomillio offered no defense whatsoever. Mr. Scomillio's firm does not practice criminal law. They are in Real Estate, Zoning, Land Use and Business Planning. I would not recommend him to anyone!

Mr. Baron was recommended by my wife's cousin and I couldn't be more pleased with his representation and outcome of my court case. At our first meeting, he was patient and listened carefully to me and my explanation of what happened and reviewed my hyped up charges. Mr. Baron explained the law, the whole court process, and discussed possible outcomes. He did not make any promises and all decisions were mine to consider and decide in the end. Mr. Baron was professional and I was very pleased with how he presented my case in court. I was lucky to have him representing me when I knew very little about legal stuff and what to expect. I had a lot riding on this because my reputation and job could have been seriously impacted. Well my case went well (I don't want to give details) and I was so glad that I didn't go in that courtroom by myself. Overall I can't thank Mr. Baron enough. I thought writing this review is probably the best way I can express my appreciation, and also pay it forward to others who might need his help.

If not for Mr Samuel Stretton several years ago I wouldn’t even be here today to write this review. Now today 16 years later I am hiring him again to represent my sister and I in an upcoming pending matter. Trust, integrity, loyalty, honesty and expertise is just a few of the endless description words I can use to describe this attorney. He’s like a real life super hero out of a movie and works tirelessly to provide his clients with the best legal representation imaginable. In all my years I can honestly say I’ve never seen a trial lawyer as amazing as he is and I’ve never met an attorney that even comes close to matching his experience and expertise in a court of law. Every day I get to wake up and appreciate the time I have with my family because of this man Samuel C Stretton. He’s more than an attorney he’s like family. If you need to win your case and want the very best the state of Pennsylvania has to offer well look no further! Thankyou for everything Mr Stretton especially for saving my life.

I hired Mr. Kelleher to represent me in a criminal case. He was able to negotiate a decent plea agreement (given the circumstances) and kept me out of jail. He's not one to call you ever week with updates or anything like that, but in the end, if you just trust him to do his job, the outcome will be favorable. In the end, the judge didn't stick to the arranged agreement and I got a harsher sentence than what I had agreed to but I realize neither Mr. Kelleher nor the DA have any control over that in the end. On a side note, it might be advisable to take this review with a grain of salt due to it being written by an admitted recently convicted felon. But don't let me tell you what to do, it's on you to decide.

Looking at an additional two year license suspension, while I was already two months into my one year license suspension, I was very nervous. If you like to communicate with your lawyer and get updates on your case, you are better served elsewhere. As a client, I found that I was constantly calling his office and leaving messages with his secretary because he was just never there. When he did finally grant me the "courtesy" of contacting me, he would ask me into his office to discuss for 2 hours what could've been told to me over the phone over a 5 minute conversation (thereby billing me up the wahoo). He would promise me a,b,c only for me to get x,y,z which ended up being far worse. I didn't feel like I had an advocate for me in my corner. I always felt like I was being spoken to in a condescending manner the few times we did speak. All in all, the client communication and responsiveness was not there.

The thing you have to remember is what you did was illegal. Instead of looking for a better lawyer which there is none maybe it’s cheaper and easier to just not break the law. No doubt when Duke retires I’ll be a law abiding citizen. Won’t risk it without him in my corner. Period.

I paid him $25,000 to represent me. Not once did he ever talk to the DA about making a deal!!! He also kept telling me not to show up for the court dates, I found out after that he was waiving my right to a fair but speedy trial!!! I never once gave him permission to waive my right to a fair but speedy trial!!! When my case finally want to trial he had me change my plea halfway through!!! Even though the 2 main witnesses who were in the same car told 2 completely different stories!!!! One of the witnesses was a pastor and the other witness was a teacher!!! And yet they had 2 different stories as to what happened!!! Why if the main witnesses have 2 different stories would you advise me to change my plea??? He did not hire anybody to do any kind of background checks on them nor did he hire any doctors or P.I.’s to do something for me!!! He just took my money and did nothing!!! The reason he is so highly regard is because he gets you in prison and doesn’t give two pennies worth about you!!! Never in a million years should you hire this bum!!! He will rip you off

I believe Eric to be one of the ABSOLUTE best attorneys in Chbg. The path he took before arriving in Chbg and while in town his accomplishments is to be admired. He assisted me in a case and I could not me happier with the results. Might I add that his assistant Carole was ALWAYS kind and a delight when calling his office.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
