Waited for over a week for someone to get back to me, had to call several times and left messages, I used them about a year ago and things went very well. Not anymore. They couldn't find any records of my case, not helpful at all. Not sure what happened with them but I waisted a week for nothing, now looking for a different law firm.

She also has experience with filing taxes, so she understands taxation and guides you on the best practices for long term financial well-being, however that looks for you and your goals. I first learned about Angel's services through a "Wine & Wills" event she hosted in Seattle, and I was very impressed by the level of information she shared and the way that she educated about the great importance of considering how we'll leave our affairs after we pass, and how this really does affect all of us. I scheduled an exploratory call with her afterwards that my husband could also attend. It did require a little preparation, but nothing crazy and everything that was requested was totally necessary to having this conversation. At the end of that call, she showed us all of our options and it was easy to understand what would work best for what my husband and I wanted and valued for our family! Working with Angel now, the trust is almost 100% "funded", meaning that should I pass away early, or my husband precede me in death, the other will have an easy, relaxed, peaceful experience, and can focus on grieving rather than worry about our assets be unduly taxed, caught up in lengthy and stressful probate court proceedings, or even become stranded where the surviving spouse does not have the proper permissions with the banks, etc and is unable to access parts of the estate. The way Angel's services work, is that after you pay the flat fee, you have her support for life. This has worked out great for us, as it took us a while to actually complete the actions. Knowing we can reach out with any questions going forward is very comforting. She really does care and is very thorough with the legalities. We feel confident that our affairs are in order now that we have our wills, power of attorneys (medical and financial), and revocable living trust in order. Thank you so much Angel!

Going through the legal system is daunting enough as it is. Having Daniel Sheed as my lawyer, I felt more at ease during the process. If I had a question or concern, he would make himself available to get a response to me whether by a phone call, return my text or email. I didn’t feel like just another number to him. I felt heard and like he was really on my side. That was important to me.

I hired Mr Sheed for a DUI I got in 2022 but I knew it was going to cause some older cases to get brought back into circulation. I told him what the entire situation was and the one thing I didn’t want to do was face jail time, after our first initial conversation I could tell he was different than the 6 other attorneys I talked to. I felt like I was getting a lot of “lip service” from other attorneys. Since I had legal issues in the past I knew that some of the things I was told by others just wasn’t possible so when Mr. Sheed was straight forward and told me what he was going to do and what the best and worst case scenarios were I felt like I’d found the right guy to represent me. After everything I feel like I was really lucky in the outcome of everything and I have to give all that credit to Daniel Sheed. If you want an attorney who will fight for you and keep constant communication during the entire process then Daniel Sheed is your guy. Trust his process and let him do his job and I think you’ll be very pleased with the outcome.

I can’t say enough about Selby Brown from Summit Law Group. She's not just any lawyer; she's the beacon of hope you wish for when everything else seems to fall apart. I found Selby when I was at my lowest, and after a horrible experience with two other lawyers. Facing a situation with a business partner who nearly wrecked me financially and emotionally, Selby was a game-changer. What really sets Selby apart isn't just her sharp business law and litigation skills; it's her unparalleled patience and genuine care. Imagine diving into a legal battle, feeling out of depth, and then there's Selby. She didn't just guide me; she made the complex legal world accessible to me. For someone for whom English is a second language, and who finds the legal world as challenging as learning a third language, her patience and clarity was priceless. Selby took the time to meticulously explain every legal procedure and after every discussion, she followed up with an email summarizing our conversation and outlining the next steps. This might sound simple, but it was a breath of fresh air compared to my previous experiences with 2 other lawyers. Other lawyers left me in the dark, not bothering to confirm they'd received my emails or to clarify my doubts. Selby's responsiveness and dedication to keeping me in the loop were not just helpful; they were a stark contrast to what I'd faced before and immensely valuable. I can’t emphasize enough how important this was for me and helped me not fall into severe depression. Selby was also incredibly mindful of the costs involved, making every effort to minimize expenses without cutting corners on her services. Though I decided to drop the case, it wasn't a loss. Thanks to Selby, I came out of the ordeal emotionally intact, with a wealth of knowledge about our judicial system. This understanding has been instrumental in preparing me for my next venture. After this experience, I've turned to Selby and Summit Law Group for all my business-related legal needs with my new company. Selby is my first point of contact for a wide range of business law issues, from company formations to business disputes and trial litigations. What sets them apart is not just their comprehensive knowledge but also their network of specialized expertise. Whenever a situation arises that falls outside their direct scope of services, Selby ensures I’m connected with the right experts within their network. This holistic approach to legal support makes Selby and Summit Law Group indispensable to me and my business.

Erin went above and beyond with my rather complicated case, and she fought for me. She clearly articulated the steps I needed to take, what she was doing, and gave appropriate counsel along the way. I trusted her fully with my case. Global Justice's office staff are polite, professional and work very fast. As a client, I know how emotional and stressful immigration situations can be. Erin calmly assisted me through the process, knows the law intimately, and did very specific research to ensure all components were properly in place. Erin was extremely responsive to my emails and calls. I am impressed with her national advocacy in DC, additionally with her local contacts in this pivitol time of immigration reform. She came highly recomended from another lawyer in the field, and I am so pleased to say that my case worked out in my favor-thanks to her determination.

He's a scoundrel and is against the interests of his clients. I had a case that was impossible to lose. While incarcerated, he refused contact. On the last day for speedy trial, with absolutely no preparation, he asked where I was. Obviously, in jail. I couldn't afford to not plead guilty to bogus charges filed by the bellevue pd. I was afraid of losing everything if I remained incarcerated any longer. He's a fraud and needs to be criminally prosecuted and locked up permanently. I don’t even think he ever studied law. Pathetic.

My complaint is not so much with off the record, but rather the attorney they referred me to. If OTR is going to be a referral service then they need to do a better job of vetting out the attorneys and if they are referring hack attorneys then they need to stand up for what is right and take care of the customer as I had no involvement on who was selected to represent me. I received a speeding infraction far from where I lived on 5-27-17 and would not be able to attend the court hearing on my own time. I did a google search and found that off the record served the county that I had an infraction in. On 6-1-17 I paid for the service and was assigned Andrew Nguyen based out of Seattle to handle my case. I received an initial email from Andrew the same day sayin he would be happy to handle my case and was sending in my ticket to request a court date. After the initial email about a month had passed without any further communication from OTR or Andrew so I reached out to Andrew Nguyen asking for an update with no response. After that I check some OTR reviews with bad communication being a reoccurring theme, but with positive outcomes being the end result most of the time so I went on with life. Then in mid-September I received a certified letter from the County dated 9-12-17 stating that due to a Failure to Appear in court if I did not pay all fines and fees in full my license would be suspended on 10-19-17. At that time I called Andrew Immediately and left a voice mail about the letter I received. A couple hours later I got a call back from Andrew and he assured me that the letter was a mistake and he would take of it for me. About a week went by without an update from Andrew and I called back asking for an update. He said he was still working on it and will get back to me, I then reminded him that I only had 15 days since the issuance of the letter to respond contesting the letter or I was going to be forced to pay the fine. He reassured me again that he was going to take care of it and not to write in my response to contest the letter. BTW by not responding to the letter as advised by the attorney I affectively gave up an last rights I had at a fair hearing and the opportunity to defer the ticket as a last resort. Another month had gone by with little communication from Andrew Nguyen and I was only a week away from having my license suspended I called Andrew again and asked if he had made any progress with my case and at that time he confessed that he did not. I reminded him that my driving privileges were going to be suspended in a week and his advice to me was not to drive anywhere the next week after the suspension and he would take care of it. At this time I knew I was not dealing with a professional attorney and with no faith in him I was forced to pay the fine and accepting all consequences that came with the infraction (when I was on the phone with the county clerk she confirmed that there was no mistake on the docket Andrew simply did not show up on my behalf). After I paid the fine I full I immediately contacted Off the Record and explained my case at which Mark responded back to me promptly stating he spoke with Andrew Nguyen and he claimed he could still get the speeding ticket fixed. Over the next 6 weeks I checked with Mark who then would check with Andrew with no response coming back I finally demanded my refund which I received on 12-8-17. Because of the gross negligence of the attorney and Off the record not standing behind their referrals or making things right by the customer (me) I am now stuck with over 2k in added insurance premiums over the next several years. If you choose to use off the record you should also do your own research on the attorney that is assigned to you.

Mr. Baklund was suspended from practicing law in the middle of my case. He never informed me of his suspension so that I could make other plans. He just didn't show up to court when he was supposed to and then I had to find out of his suspension on my own. It caused me a lot of unnecessary problems and I have done a better job representing myself. I would never recommend him to anyone. He did a horrible job.

Steve has represented me on two cases and has consulted me on many legal issues. Steve took away most if not all of the stress that comes along with making some dome choices and getting charged with some serious violations that could of ended very differently for me if not for Steve Baklund. For his fees ( i have heavily compared him with many other attorney's) being so low, you might think to yourself "you get what you pay for" and this sounds to low? NOT the case. You get a very knowlegible, creative, concerned, passionate about his helping me get the very least possible charge, and in my case completely dropped (with allot of evidence stacked against me) attorney who in my personal opinion did it for a very fair, agreed upon ahead of time price, that did not change at all from beginning to end. This to me is HUGE in the area of having to pay for legal help. This was not the case in my 3 year long divorce custody battle before I new about Steve. Even though he does not practice family law ( to bad) I would of saved thousands of dollars I'm sure. Point being any other attorney Ive worked with before Steve did the same thing. Quote me a price and by the end was know where near the quote, typically thousand over always with the same kind of reasoning why. Typically something like " we did not expect that " so hear is what it will really cost you. Overall i would highly recommend Steve to anyone who needs a criminal lay attorney, if they want the best possable chance to win there case and want to do that by paying alot less than any other attorney I have personally worked with. Not by compairing that they worked on the same case and spent the same amount of time, but charged different amounts. But because Steve pre-nogotiates his cost with you prior and wont change it on you for any reason in my experience with him. Steve Baklund takes the slime out of the "attorney's" in general bad reputation for being slimy because estimates are typically used instead of quotes, leaving it wide open to "make appropriate changes to the original estimate"

Jay Krulewitch in my opinion is an exceptional Attorney. I was referred to Jay by a friend who was represented by Jay in a major Civil Case in which the outcome was highly successful. Not only has he handled my case expeditely and professionally, but another family member has been represented by him and been handled in a similar consistent manner as well. Jay is very thorough in his investigation and research techniques, always taking into consideration of the cost effectiveness, I found Jay to work with and practice the highest standards of efficiency and ethics, yielding the highest settlement and positive outcome. I have reccomended my friends and associates to Jay Krulewitch in highest confidence. Some comments: > Knowledgable in Multidiciplines, no rock is left unturned!

Jay Krulewitch is an outstanding attorney. He has represented me three times. Mr. Krulewitch has handled two criminal defense cases and one case involving a late family member’s injury from an auto accident. All three legal matters were difficult and complicated. The two criminal defense cases were part of domestic disputes and required a great deal of careful attention. Mr. Krulewitch interacted with the parties involved in a professional and sensitive manner. In one instance, Mr. Krulewitch needed to be in contact with my family law attorney and communicated well whenever coordination was necessary. His interaction with law enforcement and the court demonstrated that he is highly skilled. All cases were handled efficiently, effectively and brought to a completely satisfactory conclusion. He has done the best possible job each time I have hired him. It is evident that Mr. Krulewitch cares genuinely about his client’s welfare.

This attorney left me with the impression he was either taking on too heavy a case load or he was not terribly good with time management. He always seemed distracted and unorganized. Meetings at his office frequently seemed like he needed a refresher about the case from day one (on the clock of course) My case dragged when it might have gone much faster. Events related to the case also happened and further complicated the matter and necessitated still further legal expense to address them. Had the case been handled efficiently it might have gone to court swiftly before these complications had time to occur. After I ran up a hefty bill (in my estimation largely due to his inefficiencies) he declared he would not even file my case until the bill had been substantially paid to date. In fairness, he may be well intentioned but don't expect too much bang for your buck.

What a pos, has you sign a contract and takes your money and does not fight for you. It was so bad the other lawyers were making fun of him...just pitiful. Oh by the way this was in 2016 thru 2017 when he claimed to be a criminal lawyer. I see now he is still living in that nasty office of his taking on chasing ambulances now. I would not refer him for anything. Cindi Allison vs Jane. Remember that one John? You dumped your client on her head days before trial.

this lawyer refused to help me out with filing an ADA rights lawsuit and said I need to pay like 100k to hire her to do this.... don't hire her if you can't afford 100k for that. one thing that name sounds familar.. she was a nun who helped a prisoner in the past... what a shame she can't help me out. Seems she turned into greedy lawyer.

Professional is an understatement when describing my experience with this attorney. Jean Shiedler-Brown saved my life. Attorney Brown studied my case and worked on my behalf to obtain the desired legal outcome as well as using the law to keep me safe during the proceedings. I found her to be knowledgeable, professional, caring and compassionate. In my opinion, this comes from a love of what she does and a love of law and of people. I was clearly in danger and the state gave the impression that I had no options. Ms. Shiedler-Brown showed me that I not only had options, but a right to be safe in my own home. She told me that she would handle everything and to not worry. She handled my case and I did not have to worry or appear from that day forward. I felt my first relief in a very long time. Finally, I had someone who believed in justice and she got that for me. Thank You Ms. Shiedler-Brown

Disappointed he told me a ringleader received 1 yr more and it was only 4 mos. I received the 2nd worst sentence and was one of the least involved. Only 3 ppl in 8 even got time, should hired a private attorney who looked into evidence and got the snitches testimony, because I was sentenced on the lies of the prosecution and snitch. Just went thru the motions. How I got so much time compared to the 2 ringleaders doesn't make sense. It should be equitable. Ppl who did much more recieved 1 year or no time. My life is ruined, I'm 65, and health completely gone due to this, no money, will be a suicide can't live on SSI while ringleaders are out 3 mos after me with a million dollars. Judge didn't even let characters witness at sentencing speak, and Nance did nothing. That is Not normal, he could have filed something to let him speak, and coaches me and a lot more, I know other attorneys do.

Mr. Hamiton is very elderly, but seemed to still be quick on the draw. He understood the principles of the case and we agreed on the angle best to pursue the case... or so I thought. We corresponded for months prior to the court date ( summary judgment) I started to realize he wasn't following the information or keeping up/track of the evidence I was sending him. (given it was enormous amount of material for personal injury) So I went personally to his office to assist in sorting through the evidence. I had everything organized all the key documents and there purposes noted and ready. I was there 9 hours and it was indescribable, he simply wasn't up to date with technology , he didn't know what Docusign was. He couldn't remember or recognize which emails were coming from me or the defendants attorney. I know in his prime he was incredible.... but that had to be a very long time ago. Ultimately, I insisted he ask for a continuance, he repeatedly requested the declarations- ALREADY IN HIS POSSESSION, the secretary didn't know how to use file conversion software, she was retyping declarations because they used 'word' and our docs were in 'PDF' He ended up re-writing the declarations for us, turning pages into sentences and omitting the most detrimental details. He kept sending them via email asking us to sign , WE REFUSED TO SIGN BECAUSE OF THE DEGREE OF INACCURACY AND LACK OF DETAIL. He submitted his declarations to the court, even though we adamantly told him to. JUDGE GRANTED THE SUMMARY JUDGEMENT, HIS REASON? LACK OF DETAIL OR ANY SUBSTANCE TO THE DECLARATIONS- Which is the only requirement to get through a summary judgement! Then told us we had no recourse and sent a letter (AFTER the 10 day window for reconsideration!) informing us of the outcome, instead of calling or answering our calls! Therefore preventing us from fixing what he had done - THEN WOULDN'T WITHDRAW, SO WE COULD PURSUE A APPEAL OR TRY TO MOVE FORWARD PO SE!!!

I consulted with Mr. Hamilton after my 20-year-old son was jailed after an altercation with the police. Mr. Hamilton was wonderful at counseling me through the day and helping me find the best way to address the situation. He clearly knows what he is doing, and has many tools to offer in a situation where a family member is unexpectedly in a bad situation. I recommend him very highly.

I hired Charles Hamilton to assist me with a criminal misdeamenor case. He was knowledgable and very helpful in explaining the process. He responded respectfully and honestly with all my questions and promptly returned my calls and email messages. He clearly had extensive experience and was connected with other attorneys so as to facilitate and expedite the hearings within a readonable period of time. Most importantly, from beginning to end he was non-judgmental, had a good sense of humor and I had every confidence in him that he was working with my best interests in mind.

Kris is the consummate professional. Through her effective communication style and strategic approach she brings a combination of deep legal knowledge and experience with a high degree of client service. Kris not only provides direction down the path but she illuminates the way during the darkest moments. She is a leader and a partner. We were introduced to Kris Costello and her firm by our General Counsel to help us through a complicated employee/shareholder legal dispute with a former employee. The arguments he raised covered a broad spectrum of concerns. Each of these complex issues exposed our company to significant potential costs. While we believed we had provided an equitable and fair offer to terminate our relationship, one that in our view was compliant with the various governance documents of the company, the former employee/shareholder sought additional compensation and hired an aggressive firm to pursue his claims. Within minutes of being introduced to Kris and providing an overview of our situation, her organization skills and tenacity came through; we would soon learn the depth of her legal knowledge. Very quickly Kris was able to compartmentalize and articulate the issues back to us in a manner that we could understand and digest. She has clearly been through this type of situation many, many times before and swiftly connected the dots. Perhaps just as important was her ability to connect with us. We were frustrated and angry with this situation; Kris validated our feeling without patronizing us and made it clear that she would fight for us. Over the ensuing months Kris did exactly that - she fought for us. There were numerous rounds of demands from his lawyer and push back from our side. Kris and her team responded to each demand letter, always angling our position for a strong defense should this argument end up in court. Each carefully worded response was supported by thorough research. It was this research coupled with Kris' experience and fundamental knowledge of the law and "how the system works" that ultimately won the day. Over this period Kris had strategically guided these discussions to limit our exposure while directing us toward an offensive position. When the legal precedence supporting our position came through the Court in an unrelated case, we were ready to push back one final time. In the end, after working through these issues for over a year, we were able to reach a positive outcome without having to go through an expensive trial. Kris' stewardship, determination and legal prowess carried us through this difficult process providing a positive outcome for our company. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Kris and greatly appreciate her intelligence, work ethic and down to earthy personality. She is a real pleasure.

In Feb of 2014, I hired Ms Kris Costello to represent me on a felony DV charge. Ms Costello had advertised a rate of $7,000.00 but charged roughly $50,000.00 without explanation. She also never told me she was too busy working on other cases to take on mine. She kept postponing my right to a speedy trial for her own convenience. This wound up costing me a great deal of money and lost profits from stocks I had to sell in order to pay her, and meet my living expenses. She did not conduct a proper investigation, and never interviewed my 19 year old daughter who's was my primary accuser. A competent lawyer would have done so, and exposed the truth. After meeting my wife in the presence of her attorney at Ms. Costello's office, Ms. Costello recommended I take a plea deal because she claimed my wife came across as unstable, and that this would work against me at trail. She also claimed it would be more cost effective for me and my family finances. After the NCO was lifted, I found neither case was true. In short, I reluctantly accepted the plea deal. When I arrived in court, Ms. Costello showed me a piece of paper in which I was also to plead that "these things are true". She never discussed what "these things" were with me at any point before my plea. The only thing she said to me (while waiting in the courtroom to see the judge) was if I kept my mouth shut, then I would get to have unrestricted access to my 9 year old son. So, when the judge ask me if I had read and understood "these things are true", I lied to him upon her advice, and said yes. After hiring another attorney to review Ms Costello's work, I discovered that all of the things I pleaded "true" were lies. This included a lie by the DA that I had violated the NCO, and for which I was rearrested in lieu of $250,000.00 bail 2 days after my February 2014 arrest. I finally hired another lawyer several months and tens of thousands of dollars later to clean up Ms. Costello's mess, get the NCO entirely lifted, and reunite with my wife. On that day in court I learned that the NCO was still in effect with my 9 year old son, and that every moment I was with him I was subject to rearrest. Fortunately, this did not happen.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
