I spoke with John back in early June to see if he could handle something for me. He took the information needed and said he would call back. After a couple of weeks I called again and left a message. I spoke to a Rebecca and she stated that he would call me back also. After several attemps, no one to this date has called back or followed up with me. Either the job was too small or there was a conflict of interest. Just let me know either way is all I wanted.

Unfortunately i cannot report such an experience that others here report. I originally saw this office and its google rating and had high hopes to only be taken through a nightmare. I unfortunately was paired up with the "Associate" and not Gary Roberts -- perhaps that's where the issues lie. The attorney i was paired with was Tiffani Brown. After being assigned with this attorney i looked her up and saw that the area of my issue (HOA law) is basically her bread and butter. Having said that, this was far from the case as i had to constantly push her and Rebecca (whom was actually very nice the few times i talked to her on the phone). This issue with started with this attorney around the middle of July and is still not resolved to this day. I constantly had to call the office and ask about statuses and push them to act on things that were seemingly just sitting around. I had time-sensitive situations that Tiffani had no concern for. Another situation where i had requested for documents from HOA where after 10 business days i would be owed a minimum $50\day and she had no idea what i was talking about when i mentioned this, that this was even relevant to the situation, and when mentioned told me that she would essentially have to go look into it if it's even relevant or pertains to the situation -- it's cut and dry, and laid out in F.S 720 that if i request documents (meeting minutes) that i am owed those docs within 10 business days; it was going on 20! She had no urgency to push back on opposing counsel, AT ALL. I had to push her to do everything, feeding her Florida Statutes and Case Law all to no avail. I basically was doing all of the work, having to convince my own lawyer that is being paid by me, and also having to educate her on her own job, duty, and angles to approach. After finally having enough, i told her i would like to separate so that i can find another attorney that is actually going to advocate on my behalf and she sends me the most unprofessional separation\termination letter I've ever seen. it was essentially blaming me for everything and trying to make it seem as though my position is entirely unreasonable. Keep in mind, my position is that i am being denied the right to repair my driveway by my HOA's ARC committee for no reason what so ever but for unreasonable, seemingly retaliatory purposes. The HOA at the time was comprised of 3 people, it's since reduced from that due to this nonsense and the HOA president has gone to neighbor's within the community coercing them into signing paperwork to pass additional ARC requests despite not having actual ARC committee meetings or board quorum. I presume Gary is more professional and capable as i have not had the pleasure to work with him and reviews here seem to give praise, but Tiffani Brown is the one to avoid.

As of June/ July 2020- So far, so good. I was recommended to him by a colleague. Others suggested that I go with a "well-known" law firm since their reputation is better ( tv commercials, reviews, more cases, etc). My experience so far: He's personable, responds to emails and questions that may arise in a timely manner. He seems genuine. However, I will provide an update as my personal injury case (rear-ended by a habitual drunk driver who attempted to flee the scene and was arrested/ bodily injury/ etc.) moves forward as i was advised that the details are in the insurance of both parties. I'm thankful for my life which is priceless and precious, but I pray that he is able to use his 25+ years of experience to reach the maximum compensation. ***I will provide an update which is why I rated 3 stars at this time.

I hired Shelly 6 years ago to handle my case for child support. In the beginning, she talked the talk. She told me I would get 50/50 custody of my child. Why not? I had 50/50 with my two other kids. She made it sound like I was going to get what I wanted. Two years later, I got an email from her saying we were going to court that year, and she only needed to 1.5 hrs to wrapped things up. I was excited because I was going to get to have time with my daughter and my other kids were going to get to bond with their younger sister. The time came and went. No emails and no response from Shelly. I reached out to her and still no response. COVID hit so I have her the benefit of the doubt. Cases were backed up because of COVID. I reached out to Shelly by phone and email wanting to have my daughter with me some during Christmas last year so she could meet her sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and me. I haven't been around my child since she was a baby and haven't been allowed to see her since. My daughter has missed out on so much. She has a family she doesn't even know that loves her and would love to see her. You would have thought that matter to Shelly but no. No response from Shelly at all. Fast forward to this year. I get a letter for m the Attorney General's Office stating that Shelly ask to remove herself from my case due to failure to prosecute. I received no email, text, nor phone call from Shelly telling me that she was going to drop my case. That's pretty unprofessional in my book. So now, I am without a lawyer still with an open case. If you have been on the fence about hiring Shelly, don't bother. She will take your money and run. She shouldn't be allowed to practice law in the State of Florida. She talks the talk. She walks the walk like walking off with your money.

There is no doubt Ms. Thomas has a high case load and lacks in communication. Although, she has represented me won multiple Family Law Cases and Criminal charges and when my time came around I was given her full attention and so were all of my cases. I understand how challenging juggling caseload and giving everyone and their Mama and update everyday, and managing several trials happening at the same time could be totally overwhelming. I know I never seen her take a day off, and I know my justice through her has been served.

Do NOT hire this attorney. He has utterly destroyed my case with his incompetence. He has repeatedly failed to fulfill his contract as well as properly represent me. He makes no effort to properly communicate or respond to me. He has repeatedly conveyed information to opposing counsel without my knowledge that has helped the opposing party to avoid accountability. He has actively avoided providing me with court documents, communications from opposing counsel, filing court documents, and has gone so far as to fail to uphold my court ordered rights. Do yourself a favor and run as far away from this attorney as you possibly can. He has no conscience.

Mr Arrowood helped a family member. From the first phone call made, in which he spoke with her and told her if he could help or not, to the final court case he did nothing but help. He was not just out for money and saved her money. He was very upfront and honest about the "what could happen". I was very impressed by him and would certainly recommend him.

I cannot say enough good things about Jeff Arrowood. I'm involved in a ridiculous family law case and he gives consistently strong, logical, clear advice and has carried me through several victories, big and small, against a very difficult opposing side. He also watches out for my billing, suggesting cost-effective ways for getting things done, while providing sound advice. It's to the point where I take his advice almost without question. He's smart, low-drama, takes no sh**, and knows what he's doing. Very highly recommended. You're in good hands with this guy.

Awesome Mr Prince is very knowledgeable and precise when it comes to the law. He goes for the throats of every LIE that the state trie to bring against his clients. I saw this man and two other attorneys fight for the lives of their clients who were facing 3 death sentences each for crimes that were all based on LIES. Mr Prince and his two Co-Attorneys went hard and toe to toe to prove every lie that the state brought against their clients and because of the proven evidence, hard work and long hours of fighting the case was won. Never get on the stand with lies and wrong intentions because Mr Prince is a bulldog in the court room. He is a Perry Mason in disguise .

I hired Mr. Karpinski on 11/26 to represent my grandson. He assured me he was well connected with the State Attorney and could resolve the case. In December by zoom meeting in 45 seconds he told the judge he had not received the case yet, understandable. January by zoom was a repeat of December. February he told the judge by zoom, again 45 seconds, he had just gotten the case and had not had a chance to review. In the meantime he did not interview my grandson and ignored all but one of his calls. My grandson's wife finally got in touch with him and gave him information in a 3 minute telephone call and Mr. Karpinski told the judge in that zoom meeting he was interviewing witnesses. I then wrote Mr. Karpinski a letter expressing my disatisfaction with his handling of the case. I did not hear from him. I then called him to discuss progress, he did not return my call. Finally on the morning of the April zoom meeting I contacted people involved with the case and found he had not tried to interview anyone and I texted Mr. Karpinski to say he was fired. THEN HE CALLED ME. He said he called an outside vendor and they might be willing to take my grandson as a client once again, but he had not gotten a definitive answer from them and oh well he hadn't talked to the State Attorney about it either yet. At that point I had paid him $2100.00. I amassed the telephone time he spent with me, my grandson, his wife, and estimated the time of the outside vendor at 15 min. to be generous. I have any emails I sent him. He never could associate my name, with my grandson's case so if he read over the case, I doubt he read it in depth. I am being generous to say he spent an hour and a half on the case in total. I told him I expected a refund of most of the money I paid him considering his hourly rate, I thought $1500 refund was fair. It has been two and a half months and he has not even called to offer an excuse why he hasn't repaid the money. It's pretty good to take on clients, take their money and do little for it. You could make a fairly good living at it.

She is either overwhelmed and in my opinion either not knowledgeable on the law or an instrument of the prosecution to move cases as quickly as possible or some combination of all three..I believe it to be the latter...I provided her with info and consulted with other attorneys are case never should have even made it to trial. I believe Ms. Bulger is more concerned with advancing her career than defending rights. If you are unfortunate enough to have to use a public defender and you get Ms. Bulger I highly recommend you get another attorney or defend yourself. You will be better off.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
