You won't regret it. Mrs. Adams has been so wonderful to me in helping me stand up for myself. She's been honest, determine, and fights for what is right. The fact that she is very informative and helpful in walking with me step by step in the court, has made this process alot easier for me. If a time comes again when I need a lawyer, I would hire her again in a heartbeat.

Mrs Adams is knowledgeable of the law, is honest, and fights for what is right. She’s respectful; but, is not afraid and doesn’t hesitate to argue her case. She will not mislead and promise you anything she doesn’t feel is attainable and fair. Honesty is not common in this line of business; but, that’s her strongest attribute.

If you want a lawyer that’s going to fight for, Michael would not be a great choice. Went back and forth to court over a year to not gain any traction on my case, only to be left paying 1600 a month in child support, owing 50k in back child support, even after providing proof I had my child 4 years out of 6. Michael didn’t represent me he only ridiculed me for my actions of having a child out of wedlock. I only selected 1 star because I had too.

Literally did the bare minimum. Pretty much absent from anytime we had a court appearance. Infact the Judges made annoyed comments about his tardiness and absence. After all was said and done he didn't do anything for me that we couldn't have done ourselves except he charged money that we could have used towards the fines. So again complete waste of time and money. All I see are 5 star reviews on this page. So I'm assuming that you guys just delete the real reviews of f upset clients so if this doesn't get posted. I will be contacting the better business bureau.

She is my boyfriend's lawyer in a criminal defense case. That is pretty serious. In my opinion, she has been very aggressive and on her game and on top of it, and balancing family life and does better than over 3/4 of people that I know personally. My opinion, she's a great choice. She goes above and beyond for her clients. She tries her heart out and puts a lot of heart into her cases. She's good when it comes to knowing her laws she's very professional. her attitude is the best. I literally have nothing bad at all to say about her Because she has just been the greatest. There's not going to be many lawyers You can possibly find that has survived domestic violence. Such a strong willed attorney!!!!!

I’d like to share my sad experience with attorney Chase Alan Baker. I am a simple, uneducated woman without any assets. Even to pay Mr. Baker’s fee I had to borrow money from somebody else. So, below is my story. In the fall of last year I made an unfortunate decision to divorce my husband and approached Mr. Baker asked him to arrange it. Mr. Baker promptly charged me $7,000 non-refundable fee. I have had the simplest case of divorce w/o minores. For comparison my husband was charged by his attorney just $4,500 and at the end of the ordeal his attorney gave him a refund of $1,500 along with a timesheet of the hours he spent on the case. This is how things should be done. To make a long story short, a month after filing for divorce I reconciled with my husband and we are again a happy family. However, my $7,000 has gone. Mr. Baker keeps an entire amount, claiming that it is non-refundable. His firm didn’t spend much time with me. I had two telephone conferences; each one an hour long and that was all. This can’t cost $7,000! But Mr. Baker has a different opinion. In his reply to me he stated that “we spent numerous hours on your case.” I have these words in writing. Question comes up: ‘If divorce w/o children requires his law firm to spend “numerous hours” than what his customers should expect if the case is slightly more complex?’ At the end Mr. Baker never refunded me even partially, never produced a time sheet of hours he spent working on my case, he just wanted to talk to me on the phone. Talking about what? Mr. Baker never explained his motive. I can guess only what it could be about. Knowing his exuberant fee $450/hour, I opted to stay away. So, time is running out, Mr. Baker keeps my money, what should I do? Anybody know? Marina Bogda

You’d be lucky if the office even picks up. No one communicates whatsoever. I sent emails, text and left voicemails. Spent over 7800$ for NOTHING. Still in the same position I was in before paying the retainer and other fees. Wish I didn’t waste my time and hard earned wages with this firm. After months of trying to get in touch with the lawyer the only email I got was that he was starting his own firm. When I call to see if there’s a policy to return funds that were not earned, cause the job was not done. NOTHING established, you can barely get someone to answer the office phone. Disgusting all the way around. Now I’m still fighting for what’s right with thousands wasted on someone who could care less.

Do not recommend. Waited months for help with no contact, as I had sent emails and tried to call. One person said they never got emails, when I had sent to the whole group and even still have the emails. Waiting to get money back. And still nothing from them. They are people who do not communicate, you cannot trust, who will not have your back like a lawyer should, and the list can go on. The only thing they offered was a different lawyer in their firm. Which was the same person I was told who was suppose to be handling me case. 6 months later still waiting...

MAKE HIM WRITE EVERYTHING YOU HIRE HIM TO DO IN YOUR CONTRACT. DON'T TRUST HE WILL DO IT ON HIS WORD. HIS CONTRACT IS VERY MISLEADING. I hired him to get a declaratory judgment on my legal status and he charged me $15,000.00 up front and assured me he would find out what court we needed to go to. So I signed his contract and paid the $15,000.00 . The contract he produced for me to sign alluded to going to court but the way he worded it I had no way to enforce it when he changed his mind about my representation. After six months all he had done was to produced two letters and after the second letter he got a response from the other party and then told me he could not do anything else. He sent me to another Attorney to file a complaint in Federal court and refused to refund any of the $15,000.00. I filed a complaint to the TN Board of Professional Conduct and Mr. Isaacs hired another Attorney to represent him, who then offered me a $3,000.00 refund on the fee. I told him I felt Mr. Isaacs had only done about $3,000.00 worth of work and I would like the full amount of the UNEARNED fee back. To this day I have not been refunded any of the fee I paid Mr. Isaacs and the complaint I filed has been dropped by the board. I was a fool for trusting Mr. Isaacs and to pay $15,000.00 up front

This is by far the worst experience I’ve had dealing with any “professional”. I was a paralegal for years and worked with and dealt with plenty of attorneys. None were like this! I spoke with Amanda only one time briefly before the trial and she was in the middle of a big case so she wasn’t as attentive. I emailed her before my trial to see is she needed anything from me or needed to meet. She said no (This was a visitation case and I hired an atty because previously the judge would not hear anything I was trying to say and I could not fail my child). Amanda came walking in after trial was supposed to start and sat away from my sister and I, because she was working on another case. She was so unprepared and her focus was on a “bigger” case. She even asked the judge to step out to call her office about a different case. She had no idea it was a trial (I told her that when we first met) and how unfit my child’s dad was. My child is in therapy because of his dad but the judge ruled on the fact they we were BOTH great parents. I paid Amanda every dime she asked for without question and I couldn’t afford it. When expressing my concerns with her she wasn’t even apologetic. She couldn’t hold herself accountable. She made it a yelling match. She even made the statement “I hate to say it, but this is what happens when you lawyer up”. Technically I didn’t have a lawyer present. She kept telling the judge “well I had no idea” and “I just recently got this case” (she had it for over 2 months). Amanda ask my child’s dad one question “what county do you stay in” and she asked me a few, but it’s what I wrote on her pad during trial. She told me she didn’t know anything about my case because I didn’t meet with her. Told me she is available every Saturday for her clients. How was I supposed to know that if I’ve never been told? Even when I asked her before trial, she never mentioned it. I’m disappointed that money I didn’t have went in her pockets for nothing. However, I’m more hurt because she failed my child. Thanks Amanda!

Exactly what the title says. I've had dealings with attorneys for years for business and never have struggled so hard for communication. We even scheduled a set time to chat, confirmed the time in two emails and then was stood up and never really got an apology or any acknowledgement of the issues it created. I always like to feel that maybe an interaction happened at a hard time (End of 2020 and we're all stressed) but when you are dealing directly with things that have profound effect on someone's life, good communication shouldn't be a compromise.

“Overpriced and undelivered” is the best way I can describe my experience. Lacked the detail, true concern, or follow through you would expect from a professional attorney charging exorbitant fees whom claims to be the absolute best. Interesting to note, as I met with additional attorneys in my area for help with the same case .. none were surprised by my experience with him.

I've not hired Mr. Veazey myself, but am fam illiar with him through the Occupy Chattanooga lawsuit. Not being one of the main organizers, I was not personally his client. However, Mr. Veazey was clearly a capable attorney who fought for a client with whom the public in Chattanooga had little sympathy. Later when I thought I needed an attorney, I consulted Mr. Veazey who could have taken my case and charged me quite a bit of money. Instead he directed me to a not-for-profit who would assist me in filing a complaint via a regulatory agency and gave me the name of a more specialized firm to consult if that process was unsuccessful. If I ever need a lawyer again, he will be my first call.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
