If I had three words to describe John Haines, it would be professional, knowledgeable and blunt. Divorce is always a sticky situation, but John navigated it like it was child's play. He's been doing this for a long time and if you think the retainer is too much to pay, it isn't. He chews gum and shoots from the hip. This does not mean he's cocky. He's just confident and that's what you need in a lawyer. Just listen to him, do what he tells you to do and it will be all over before you know it. He really isn't one of these sleazeball lawyers who is looking to overbill for every e-mail or call. I saw my ex's financials and he got billed 3-5 times a month. I never got a bill until the very end. He's there if you need him, but check your problem at the door to make sure you really need him. Divorce is emotional. He's not Dr. Phil. He's there to get you out of the predicament you're in and if it goes to court, fight for you. I appreciated his demeanor and when you hire him, you will too.
The work was exceptional, the price was fair, the stories were hilarious and I'd give him and the boys in the office 5 stars any day of the week. Outstanding work!

I heard about Jed through a family friend who also used him as her divorce attorney. So I figured I would have a consultation with him. After our consultation, I was VERY satisfied and knew that I wanted to hire him. This was back in 2018. He required the retainer, which was expected, and used that retainer towards the expenses. He was very professional, listened to my needs, had my sons best interest in mind, and maintained his integrity throughout my entire case. Not only did he handle my divorce, custody, and parenting plan case, he also handled my personal injury case, got me the most that he could, and knowing full well that he would get his share, so he made sure after giving him what was owed, I still had more than enough to cover costs. I don’t like saying I have an attorney “in my back pocket”, but I enjoy having the relief of knowing I have an attorney or any legal matters. Jed comes HIGHLY recommended by me, and will be the only attorney I use.

I faced a serious criminal charge arising from an argument with a close family member. I was worried that it would ruin my record and my employment. I have a great job in another state. I spoke to Bret about my problem, and he explained how the local Chattanooga court system worked so I would know what would happen in court. He then worked on my case for months, until he had the case dismissed entirely. It was a family matter that got out of hand. For that, I am truly sorry. But, I am very thankful that it will not haunt me or my career in the future. These guys know what they're doing.

As a Veteran with no criminal record, I was extremely embarrassed and upset with myself for getting a DUI. I worried about how this one mistake could affect my future. I called Dana and hired him to represent a family member in a DUI case. Dana looked at all of the discovery materials and one thing didn’t quite feel right to him. He requested follow up documentation from the DA’s office, who stalled and deferred for close to a year, postponing court dates multiple times. Dana didn’t back off, and the DA finally admitted that he didn’t have the media Dana was requesting.
He negotiated a favorable plea agreement that was far better than what we thought was possible. I’d hire Dana again without hesitation.

They just wanted me to pay them without an explanation. William finally got them to investigate and explain the issue, and I appreciate that. Mark had to fight my charge for a long time because I refused to plead guilty, and the entire time Mark made me feel like I had a friend—a legal friend—fighting in my corner. Mark is a skilled, 10 out of 10 attorney and legal advisor, and his retainer fee was very reasonable. I will always be grateful for how the negotiations he did for me changed the trajectory of my life. I would have lost my job and had a criminal record had I been found guilty, but after Mark’s hard work, the case was (rightfully) dismissed and expunged.

November 2020 I had a slip and fall, I spoke to a family member, believing that this could have been preventable, he referred me to The Wharton Law Firm, I have never been in this situation before so I contacted the firm. All this happened during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, I received a phone call advising that the attorney wanted to conduct a zoom consultation, during the consultation I advise him of what had taken place on that day, I was then advised that the firm would except my case, I was grateful. Not knowing what to expect, I went to all my doctor visits, obtain any evidence that I could, Andrew kept me up dated on every aspect of the case, if he emailed and stated they needed anything such as medical records, medical bills ect. I was able to obtain them. anytime they call, emailed the first thing they ask was how was I feeling. I woud receive some emails asking certain questions about that day, to clear up a few unanswered questions. As time went on I was still continuing treatment, I would advise them of every appointment I had, what day, who I was seeing, afterwards I would email Andrew advise him of my visit, what will happen next, I just kept him up to date on everything that was going on. Once we got to the near end I was advised of the starting offer, he advise me on each and every one through the end, he consulted with me about what to expect and how this negotiaton would take place, after mutipile offers and at that time which I agreed to settle. Our son was charged with a DUI because he was asleep in a car after drinking. Terrifying to find out your child has been arrested. AZ met with us quickly, he set realistic expectations and helped us understand the legal consequences. He and his office kept us well informed and were always available by phone 7 days a week. I had to find new legal counsel after my first lawyer's lack of experience became painfully obvious the first time in front of the judge. In my search for a new lawyer, Lewis Williams came highly recommended, and he made an immediate impact.
My (now) ex-wife’s lawyer was loud, rude, aggressive, and willing to present half-truths and outright lies in the courtroom. (My previous lawyer didn’t stand up to her, but just wilted.) After I hired Lewis, she became much more civil and showed him immediate respect. (He told me he had beaten her in the courtroom before, so that was a good sign.)
My ex-wife worked very little during our 18-year marriage, had an affair, and faked a brain injury in her attempt to gain disability benefits. I had copious amounts of evidence for all this. Unfortunately, Tennessee state law apparently cares little about morality and ethics and mostly looks at income vs. need. Thus, I was vulnerable to paying extensive alimony due to my income and the length of our marriage. Lewis encouraged me to settle, even though he told me he would make up to $30,000 in more legal fees if we went to court. I was amazed at his honesty and integrity.
On a side note, he is very prompt at returning emails and works through weekends, holidays, and even when he’s sick! There were times when I thought, “He needs to rest.”

The owner of apartments that border my property was negligent in maintaining his trees. The trees posed a danger to my property, including my house. Mr. McClanahan did his homework by having The University of Tennessee extension agent come to my property and assess the danger of the trees. Then, armed with the evidence, sent a letter to the owner of the apartments. I had been requesting that the trees be cut for over six months, but within one week of Mr. McClanahan's action the dangerous trees were cut and removed! Now my yard is safe and I am a fan of the excellent work of Matthew McClanahan!

We all make mistakes. Upon hearing about Houston & Alexander PLLC, I consulted them regarding DUI charges among others. Mr. Underwood got court postponed for me on more than one occasion, until I was able to pay for their services in full. On my final court date they did their negotiations with the district attorney’s representatives, and got my charges reduced to reckless driving. I am fully satisfied as I can get on with my life and career with this all behind me. I'd highly recommend David Willis! I was facing a dui, refusal to submit, and speeding ticket. After a couple of continuances he was able to get the dui and refusal thrown out due to his knowledge of the field sobriety test and what the officers did wrong in administering it. Results were a cheap speeding ticket and court costs. I'd definitely hire again if ever needed.

I hired Dave when I was arrested on a second DUI with an accident involved. I refused the breathalyzer and the officer had me do a field sobriety test. The prosecutor would not give up on reducing the sentence to a reckless driving, so after reviewing the video a couple of times he advised me we have a decent chance at beating it in a jury trial. He walked me through all the things that would go on during the trial. I sat on a jury once before and know that it can go either way so I was nervous at this point. I knew we had a good case and a good possibility of a not guilty verdict. Once the case was moved up to a new court room Dave kept on fighting I was almost positive I was going to have to take it to trial. I went to court one day and Dave came out and told me they were ready to make a deal I couldn't believe it, drop the DUI and take a reckless driving with a year probation and 5 days in jail. I was so excited he got them to drop the DUI, but Dave said that's not good enough so he worked some magic and got them to reduce the year of probation to only six months. He is very thorough, he will tell you the worst case scenario and lets you know what your chances are of getting the charges reduced or maybe beating it in a jury trial. I didn't take my chances with the jury and took the deal, Dave worked his ass off to get me that deal and I believe he would have did the same if It would have went to trial. It was the best deal I was going to get and I just wanted it to be over. I have been charged with two DUI's and have had them both reduced to reckless driving. I will tell you he is very strict, do what he tells you to do so that he can do his job to keep you out of jail. I am so glad I hired Dave, I think that if not for him I would have taken the DUI in general sessions court, but he encouraged me to keep on going. He knows the system but I hope I never have to hire him again.
