DO NOT HIRE THIS LAW FIRM!!! I had the absolute worst experience with Eric Leckie and his team. I hired Eric back in 2018 to handle a theft case, and from the start, it was a disaster. After paying $5,000, I expected professionalism and proper representation, but what I got was the exact opposite.
First, Eric switched my lawyer without even giving me a choice. I wasn’t even consulted about whether I wanted to work with the new lawyer. When I got arrested in Alabama and was being transferred to Virginia Beach, I tried to reach out for help, but all I got were empty promises. The new lawyer kept saying, “Oh, we’re good with bonds.” But when I got to Virginia, the story changed to, “You know you’re not getting a bond, this is a warrant from 2018.” Which one is it?!
To make matters worse, the restitution for my case magically jumped from $6,300 to $9,200, and my lawyer didn’t even bother to investigate where that number came from. She didn’t fight for me AT ALL. She barely communicated with me, never answered my calls, and I was stuck talking to the paralegal every time. How are you charging someone $5,000 and not even providing direct access to the lawyer? No cell phone number, no sense of urgency, and absolutely no care for my case.
This lawyer let the prosecutor walk all over her. She went along with everything the prosecutor wanted, and it felt like she was working against me instead of for me. I even had to OFFER to pay the restitution upfront just to get a measly one-month reduction on my sentence. What did I pay for if I still had to advocate for myself?
This law firm is a complete scam. They’re quick to take your money but will leave you feeling uncomfortable, unrepresented, and stuck with no real help. If you value your freedom and your money, RUN from this firm. They don’t fight for your freedom—they just collect your money while you’re out here fighting for your life.

Mr. Cardon was a Godsend!!! I had no idea whom to contact for representation and blindly called multiple Attorneys' offices before Mr. Cardon was highly recommended to me. Several of the others seemed solely concerned about their payment (their initial statements only included the retainer amount and did not even ask my name before hanging up on me). I knew from our first conversation that Mr. Cardon was the attorney I needed in my corner! He was patient and took the time to learn about my situation. He truly showed up in the eleventh hour for my hearing that was scheduled the following morning! I was impressed by his professionalism and understanding, both in and out of the courtroom. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER, David Cardon couldn't care less about helping us with my finance case. He took advantage and played me for $750 just to play candy crush in the court room with his hair a mess looking like he just popped out of bed and just "show up". He tried to avoid speaking with his actual client the whole time, stuttered and said UM the entire time while speaking to the judge. My fiance called him trying to discuss his case and David was chewing and eating all in his ear. With his lack of concern a public defender could've done a way better job and they are FREE. Let's not forget after he got us denied bond he ask for $10,000 and told me he would still have to do jail time. And he is a innocent man , I have proof with witness David never utilized. And due to him being a terrible lawyer my fiancé missed the birth of our son who passed away and he never got to meet him bc of this PEICE OF SGIT LAWYER . Now I have hired a WAY better lawyer to recommend for a fraction of the price AND HE WILL BE GETTING OUT . I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LAWYER . This man cared nothing about his client or his case knowing we had a child due very soon and only wanted to take our money.

Frugal Legal Services should be the staple for how all parents are represented in custody cases. Ms. Burroughs worked hard and diligently on my case and set realistic expectations. My case had a ton of unrelated issues to custody and Ms. Burroughs was completely understanding and worked through our nearly 9 month case. Ms. Burroughs is a magical and enlightening person who gets results. I went from having no contact with my children to now everything is 50/50 and I get to see my sons every other week and have the assurance that no one should be able to change that. The only shame here is that I can only give Ms. Burroughs and Frugal Legal Services 5 stars because it doesn’t let you show off the absolute brilliance of the firm or Ms. Burroughs. Ms. Burroughs and Frugal Legal Services are the prime and top option of any family matters should anyone require those services. I will recommend them for my entire life because of the amazing work that was done.

I hired Ms. Messman a few years ago for my divorce/custody after spending 5 years with another law firm & wasting thousands of dollars to get nowhere. Ms. Messman got my divorce finalized and sole custody of my children in less than a year & only charged me a couple of thousand dollars. The other law firm drug their feet and charged me $60,000 grand over a 5 year period. I'm so glad I found Ms. Messman.

I was with another firm for over two years. They drained my bank account, my hope, and I felt like a pawn in my own custody battle. I sought Mykell out after a terrible experience where I felt my attorney at the time didn’t know how to represent my case. I had an initial meeting, we talked about what was important to me and once accepted Mykell literally heard everything I said, as a single mom, and went from there. We didn’t have a bunch of consultations that she billed me obscene amounts, we had two. She went to court and she FOUGHT for my babies and for me. She fought for everyone’s best interests, she was amazing. She told me from the beginning we’re not doing this whole “petty” thing which I 100% respect because my previous lawyer told me to call them about everything, and they billed me accordingly. She said call me when you NEED me and gave me her personal cell. After two and a half years for the first time I felt HEARD with her without repeating myself twenty times. I felt SAFE with her and I knew she was looking out for EVERYONE. She was everything I needed from the beginning and more. If you don’t go to Mykell you’re doing a disservice to yourself and your sanity. For the first time in two and a half years I feel like I can breathe again. Retain her. The juice is worth the squeeze I promise you.

We met Jeremiah A. Denton III when searching for a lawyer to handle our son's defense against a civil suit. Alison anders commits legal malpractice and is a professional liar. She refused to take me as a client solely on the basis she thinks I'm too poor. She charged me 450 for a 15 minute consultation where she rudely insinuated I have no right to my son. Shes a professional scam artist that uses her career to steal from people. She should be prison. I regret to inform that my experience with The Coastal Virginia Law Firm Of Brook M. Thibault P.C. was profoundly disappointing and lacked the professional rigor one would expect. Engaging Mr. Thibault as my attorney, I anticipated a robust advocacy for my interests. Unfortunately, the reality was a hurried and disjointed process that led to a custodial agreement deeply unsatisfactory to my needs—one that was not only settled without my prior consent but also executed without my signature.
The lack of communication was a significant issue throughout the process, exacerbated by the non-cooperation of the opposing party. Despite these challenges, the expectation was that my legal representation would navigate these complexities with professional diligence. Instead, there was a premature rush to resolution, evidenced by Mr. Thibault’s unilateral decisions to sign off on agreements and letters without my input.
This approach not only compromised my legal standing but also resulted in substantial financial loss without achieving the desired legal outcomes. To those considering this firm’s services, I urge thorough research and consideration of other testimonials. WARNING - DO NOT USE - I don’t normally write reviews but this one I’m doing because I wish someone had told me. I’ve have actually filed a complaint with the VA State Bar. I paid in October 2017 for an easy divorce as we had a prenup. She finally told me in March that I would have my papers in 4 to 6 weeks - the word “guaranteed” was said several times, which stood out because nobody, let alone an attorney, would say that. Now comes August & she finds out we need affidavits. Stating she and the opposing attorney didn’t think they would need them. I don’t know who the opposing attorney is because he didn’t have one. She will call so it shows unknown caller that goes straight to voicemail and will then deny she did that. Still no divorce. Use at your own risk now.

I thought I would have a great experience with this law office, but almost every time I would get in touch with the office, it took forever to have my case worked on. Any action on my case was so delinquent, that I was offered a small refund, which I feel is a great P.R. gesture.
One month ago, I was told "the check is in the mail". I emailed this exact statement recently to the office, and I still have not heard back.
The continuous delays and excuses really turned me off. Very disappointed is an understatement.

I hired Michelle to help my boyfriend out with a bond amend. I paid $500 to have this done. She NEVER requested to have a bond amend added to the docket . We live out of state , I hired her on a Monday & DIDNT hear anything unless I texted her. She ignored the calls. She only texted me 2 times. Met with my boyfriend for 20 minutes . Her excuse was they have to send the file to the DA. I contacted the DA and JDRC and they said that is not true; it can be heard by the judge same day. I informed her in a text that I spoke with JDRC & the DA and what they said and she told me I never spoke with anyone . I told her I was letting her go because she has done absolutely nothing and I was hiring another lawyer. She only refunded me $218. Took the remaining out of the $500 for a 20 minute visit & two texts she sent. I let her go on Thursday and hired someone else. My new lawyer got my boyfriends bond amend & arraignment on the docket the next day & he’s now on his way back home. This attorney is a joke . First time I spoke with her you can hear her smoking and blowing out the smoke while on the phone. Completely unprofessional. To top it all off, there was nothing signed between her & I. I will be reporting her & I hope no one else uses her. She WILL waste your money.

I got an advertisement letter in the mail among many. I got many quotes but to me I feel like I hit the jackpot with Sidney Kelsey. First, all of the other letters seemed threatening and made me uncomfortable. I called Mr. Kelsey's office because his letter was very genuine, second, he was understanding and realistic about my case. His fees were so reasonable and so I decided to go with him. I wasn't able to make it the first time to court so he got me a continuance. When the date came he got it dismissed and I am such a happy person thanks to him, in my opinion people who complain about their attorneys do not follow their advice, that's what they are there for!

All these negative reviews are reflected off of attorney Mapp not her staff. She was always late for appointments and when the client would call to get an update she would want them to get on the calendar just to speak to her and then would end up not being able to keep that appointment. It's deplorable how she ran that office!!! It's a wonder she's able to keep anybody working for her because she takes full advantage of the employees that stay for an extended period of time and goes through them like a roll of toilet paper.

This place does not do what you paid them to do. Actually, they take their sweet time. She makes excuses but I don't care. You have my payment in full. If you can't do your job offer my money back and let me move on. But that would be too much like right. Over a year later and I am still in limbo. There are never updates unless you hound the office. They wait weeks to tell you other items are needed and you still only find that out after you hound them for an update. A simple matter that should be done already.

Hiring Ms. Mapp as your attorney in a civil matter is equivalent to going to a used car dealership on the turnpike and getting a 10 year old car for 25% interest.
She does not advocate for you, she or her staff does not respond or complete tasks. When asked about the status of the case that should have been completed months ago, she states that the case is not a priority. She submits incomplete files to the court with no follow up and expects the client to know what to do. Lawyers are hired to SUBMIT COMPLETED files to the court.
I do not recommend hiring this lawyer unless you want to deal with disrespect and incompetence from her or her staff.
She prolongs cases so that she can continue to get paid.

No help here. Will give you up to the lowest bidder. How can you even sit through him shaking to finish listening to him lie and try to convince you he has your best interests? Don't waste your finger strength dialing this number. If it's anything against the court you've automatically lost with him. The only reason I believe they allow him to still practice is because of the cases he loses as a court-appointed. Which violates the guidelines of indigent counseling for Virginia and several rules of the American Bar Association. This man wrote the court and told the people I said I wasn't coming to the court. That was his attempt to have himself removed instead of filing motions that benefited my case. Section 19.2-163.01(A)(4). Model Rules of Professional Conduct.

I came to Mr. Mettler with my child custody case. As a client of his and single mother of 2 small children, I highly recommend him. All good attorneys are very busy but he always came through as needed. Not only is he well knowledgeable about the law, he was always compassionate and empathetic to my situation. I never felt that Mr. Mettler was “out to take my money”. In fact I feel the opposite. Throughout my case I feel Mr. Mettler did everything he could to keep my case as cost effective as possible. Not to mention his awesome paralegal Tammy! All my calls with questions were answered promptly. I was always kept informed with any proceedings in my case. I would strongly suggest that anyone going thru a divorce to seek counsel ANYWHERE else than hiring David Mettler as your attorney. After over a year and close to ten thousand dollars later, no progress has been made. He is consistently at least 45 minutes late to every appointment as well as unable to ever call you at all when you've made a phone conference. He will and continued to go around your wishes to extend a case just to bill you more and rack up your legal fees. He is extremely arrogant for someone who clearly knows minimal in divorce cases. Do yourself a service and hire any other attorney other than David Mettler.

No matter what the case I know he will do his BEST. I just had 2 federal charges, which were 2 felonies. He had one completely dismissed and the other which was dropped down to a misdemeanor, and unsupervised probation. I couldn't ask for anything better when I was looking at 1 year minimum for one of my charges and 10 years on another charge. Please do your research, and if you are looking for someone is 100% straight forward with you and will let you know right off the bat what his suggestion is, I would go with Jason Dunn. He definitely helped me out more than I could ever ask for! He's very professional and I can bet you he would give you your best deal in the court of law. Good Luck!!!

My company hired Mr. Dunn to handle a time sensitive business transaction, all of the communications were with his paralegal. Each time I called regarding the status of my petition I was told that Mr. Dunn was handling a Federal case and was unavailable. The only communication I received directly from Mr. Dunn was an email stating that he was terminating his engagement. In our industry petitions are usually filed with 24-72 hours, it took his office nearly a month to file a petition, once a petition was filed the petition included several careless mistakes. When I asked his paralegal about the mistakes she would not respond. My calls to Mr. Dunn went unanswered, when I emailed him letting him know that I am about to lose the customer and incur damages due to the delay he let me know that I should find another attorney. He also said that I did not provide sufficient information regarding a change to a Virginia statute, when I asked what exact information I did not provide he would not answer.

I would like a refund of the $1500 I paid to you to represent my case. You came to court twice. I repeatedly asked you to file a motion of discovery and you did not. At one point you told me you did and when I asked you how long do they have to respond? You admitted you had not filed it. One court date was canceled and the second time you said next to nothing in my defense and began visibly shaking from nerves. I had tangible evidence of my innocence and you previously told me under the law that I would not be convicted and if for some reason I was than we would take it to a jury trial. After I was wrongfully convicted I asked you to submit the paperwork to take it to trial and you told me you could no longer represent me because you were hired by another law firm that wanted you to complete the cases you were working on before taking the position with them. I have found out you are still in your own practice and chose not to represent me to the fullest extent of the law like you were paid to do. This was a clear violation of your code of ethics. If you are unwilling to send me the fee I paid to you for representation I will have to file a report with the American Bar Association and the State Bar Association to request disciplinary action because of lawyer incompetence and malpractice. I will also request a copy of the court transcript, video footage and documents submitted to the courts for my case to file a civil suit for the money paid for representation that was not earned through due diligence and proper representation. I look forward to hearing from you in a timely manner for a refund to take care of this. Thank you for your time and attention.
