You can be a good Christian but awful at your job. He completely gave us terrible advise and was awful in court, awful is being nice. He mumbled the Judge had to tell him to speak up. He called my daughter by the wrong name, he had no clue what he was doing, the other attny chewed him up and spit him out. Afterwards he said that went well and I had to remind him we lost. We had to hire another attny to try to undo what he did. Again you can be a good Christian but terrible at your job. I regret the day we hired him.

Chester Banks will only help you if you are a close friend. He did not handle my criminal case at all and I received 8 months in jail for a petty offense. When I tried to call him, he would never return my calls from the jail. He did not want to consult with me about my case until the day of my hearing. He kept the door open while folks listened to our quick talk. Any positive reviews shown here are probably false reviews, left by friends and family. He also cheats on his taxes. He is not a good man.

Do not expect Mr. Robl to keep track of the time he has worked on your case, or to provide you with accurate information. Ask him every time you speak to him how many hours you have left on your retainer, and make sure it matches your records. In my case, Mr. Robl informed me that I still had money left on my retainer, but would need to provide him with additional money soon. I advised him that I did not have any additional money and therefore I needed to settle my case (which I did immediately). Shortly thereafter, I received a bill for a very large amount of money. When I reached out to Mr. Robl to clear up these charges, he explained that the information he had previously provided was not accurate. I was upset to hear it, and didn't have the money he was now saying that I owed him. I went back to check all of my records, and still did not come up with the hours he was claiming to have worked on my case. When I called him back in attempt to work something out, he would not answer. I left multiple messages. He refused all of my phone calls and emails, and never responded to me again. Rather than speak to me, someone he was representing, he SUED me, resulting in a judgement. Adding insult to injury, he actually included his legal fees (not just costs) for representing himself in the lawsuit! Please be very cautious when considering Mr. Robl to represent you. I've never felt so wronged before in my life, and would hate for anyone else to go through what I did.

If I could have given Nicole zero stars, I would have. I have never seen a more one sided attorney in my life. During the most important court case I’ve ever had to deal with (custody), She gave the most inaccurate, opinionated prospectives I’ve ever witnessed. She never viewed ANY of my supporting documents and literally spoke to me for 5 minutes during a custody hearing. That is hardly enough time to make a determination on the rightful guardianship of a child. I would not hire her to represent my goldfish let alone leave my lively hood in her hands. Good luck to whoever is forced to have her as court appointed anything.

I have NEVER seen someone so sloppy and unprofessional in the court room. She would blatantly flirt with my ex husband in front of the entire court room. She was supposed to represent my child but was in his back pocket the entire time. She spoke to me for exactly 44 minutes through our entire (months long) process meanwhile she was running to my ex after the court hearings. Offered him a home visit I didn’t get, and blatantly LIED to the courtroom and in her evaluation. She gave all of her reports late and they had absolutely nothing factual, just what she took as truth from my ex husband. This woman is a disgrace and I do not know how she sleeps at night being the vile disgusting excuse of a human that she is. If she is assigned to you, especially if you’ve been abused by the other party, GET HER OFF YOUR CASE NOW. She should not be allowed in another courtroom or to be the voice for another child ever again.

I used Mr. Hendrickson to represent me for a judgment I won while we were stationed away from our home. Not only did I waste my money on his services, he filled out the paperwork with the court incorrectly. I took him to court and won my judgment and he refuses to pay me. I wrote to the Bar Association and he was reprimanded and had to pay a fine. I garnished his bank account and he filed an emergency Homestead Deed to stop me from collecting my judgment. The Judge sided with him and I have to find another way to collect my judgment. He is a liar and told another Judge he never was paid his fees, which I have a canceled check signed by him. His case against me was dismissed. He put a lien on my home and refused to remove it. I had to get the Judge to sign off on documents proving that I didn't owe him anything. He is a lawyer that should be in jail for contempt. Its pretty bad when the Bar Association finds you for your wrongdoings. They should have made him pay me my judgment.

Stay away from this “law firm” my injury occurred July 2017 and has not been closed yet. It seems like trivial items cannot be addressed at any level from this office. The insurance companies disbursed checks June of 2022 and they cannot figure out the accounting or even get a reduction in liability from the insurance company. They do not respond to emails or provide certificate of deposit for the escrow account to hold the funds while they deal with the medical lien. They claimed they paid out $8,000 in administrative charges and could provide invoices for close to $2000 only. They provided a listing of medical invoices that were unrelated to my claim. Also be wary I was told that they would be taking 33% of the settlement once all invoices were paid but they took it from the top after they collected a referral fee from my wives case. They purport to be client centric but none of their actions fall in line with their 100% bias to their bottom line!

I was arrested in mid- March 2018 of stalking. This attorney was court appointed due to the plaintiff getting me fired by arranging to have me arrested at my place of work. My attorney came to jail to speak with me for approximately for 20 minutes prior to my bond hearing. He told me the judge would deny me bond, which is what happened. My trial was to take place July 23, 2018. I needed to work to maintain my mortgage and other bills and tried to obtain a work release. I sent a letter to the York county circuit clerk to obtain permission from the judge to work. After not receiving a reply from the court, I had a friend contact the court and she was told the work release request had to go through my lawyer and that the clerk had forwarded my letter to the lawyer. Again, not having received a reply, I had my friend call (leaving a message with an assistant) and send a fax to the attorney – still no reply. I attempted to call my attorney from jail but the phone would cut off if the number called went to voice mail, which was the case. Finally, I sent a letter to the attorney to the address that was on a business card that the jail provided. The letter came back as “address unknown”. The address was the same as listed on the attorney’s website. This process took over a month. In early May, my cell door opened at 5 am. I was told by the block officer that I had court that day. I had not been previously contacted that I would be taken to court on that day. I was taken to the courthouse and placed in a holding cell. After several hours I was led to a small room where this attorney was present. He said something to the effect of let’s get you out of here. There was a plea deal and knowing I needed to return to my job, I accepted it – with the court providing paper work that stated I accepted the plea deal after having had an opportunity to go to trial. I would rather have gotten the work release and stayed in jail until the initial July 23 trial date. I wanted to present evidence at the trial that proved that my accuser had lied. Had I not accepted the plea deal that day, this attorney would not have been prepared to effectively represent me. The 20 minute meeting prior to my bond hearing was our only contact and he never asked for evidence. Steven Barnette did not inform me of my new court date and I believe he did this knowing full well that I needed to work to pay my mortgage. I further believe he allowed me to be “surprised” so that I would be willing to accept a plea deal and he would not have to put forth much effort in this case. Mr. Barnett showed a lack of professionalism and a lack of integrity.

Do yourself a great favor and I promise you that you will be thankful for it, look for another lawyer that is worth it because this is the worst you can have. because apart from the fact that he excites you by saying that you can win, he only wants to be in court to charge you more. I ended up fired him because I never trusted it and after I fired him he sent me another bill for 5,000 dlrs for doing nothing and gave me a few days to pay him or he would sue me. If only you could give less than 1 star... My elderly, Army retired father was hospitalized for more than a week at the Dewitt Army Hospital on Ft Belvoir. During that time, there were some legal documents that needed to be signed. We were trying to get a special power of attorney to complete my father's business. Oddly enough, the legal office at the hospital said they could not do it. So, we called Ft Belvoir JAG. They, too, said they could not provide the service as my father could not leave the hospital. It's a shame, but fine. The problem is the attitude that comes with asking questions. The attorney who i spoke with (didn't catch her name), but she snidely told me she was an attorney, was plain rude. She informed me that when my father joined the military he was not promised legal services for the rest of his life. I'm not sure what she intended, but I took it as, he's retired and I have nothing to do with that. She was not helpful nor willing to give me suggestions as to how I could accomplish the necessary paperwork. Therefore, I checked the website for the JAG and it states: Mission Statement: Deliver principled, responsive counsel and mission-focused legal services to the Garrison Command and Staff; to Soldiers, Families, Civilians, and Retirees; and to designated Partner organizations. I'm pretty sure that retirees means that they are able to ask for legal counsel for the rest of their lives. Honestly, if he hadn't been hospitalized on Ft Belvoir, I would have looked elsewhere. But, why not use what is right there on post?

If you care about you best chances avoid Ron Slaven! The rest of the staff are nice. Slaven is not worth the price and most likely won’t use any evidence in court that you’re paying for and will not use any evidence you give him or legal aid. Most important he will not update you how he will proceed to handle the case. John and Janet and Angel are much better. Avoid Ron Slaven he even forgot to bring up my only witness and did not use one single document or evidence that he printed out or document you pay for such as police, medical, or legal documents. He wings it the day before unprepared, forgetful, and used no evidence that I ended up paying $2,000 for he never brought it up in court. He only cares about money not you don’t make the same mistake.

Got my 60 in a 45 speeding ticket dismissed. Attorneys commonly send letters to people seeing if they need representation. The letter says if there was an error or if a ticket was not received to disregard the letter. Call and speak with the team before you rely on reviews by people that have never used them or even spoken to them. I spoke with them, followed their instructions, and got excellent results. I asked for a "no contest" plea and try to minimize my punishment, but the ticket was dismissed!! Greg and his team delivered everything exactly as they specified.

I recently received a traffic ticket for speeding in Virginia. Prior to my court date I received a letter from Attorney Gregory Waddell offering the availability of his services if I needed an attorney. His letter contained an offer for a free telephone consultation. I called Mr. Waddell and he was in court. His paralegal said she would have him return my call. Within two hours Mr. Waddell returned my call and asked how he could be of assistance. After reviewing my citation, and it's particular circumstances, he did not feel his services and associated fees were necessary since I planned on personally attending my court date. He went on to give me helpful advice on how to plead my case and suggested I take an online defensive driving course prior to the court date as the judges. have a tendency to look favorably on that type of pro active approach. WOW! What a true professional approach from Mr. Waddell. So many attorneys would have pitched their services to collect a fee. Mr. Waddell was more interested in doing the right thing and not taking advantage of a client. I can assure you that if I ever find myself in real need of an attorney I will be seeking out Mr. Waddell. I suggest you do the same. Gil Patrick

In my opinion this is and has been the worst experience. When meeting Attorney Tyson she gave me the impression that she would walk with me, keep me posted, and assured me that I was not in this alone. She also expressed how she understood my pain and was empathetic about all that I was enduring, being a breast cancer survivor and husband abandoning me, and commtting adultery. Little to my knowledge she gave me false hope. After paying on the 1st visit, I quickly saw a different side. There were no phone calls, no responses from me calling, and when having a court date I was informed 1 to 2 days prior. When the court hearing date came. She was late for court, very unorganized, fumbling papers, was told I don't like coming to court, and she had NO confidence. I felt like she worked for the other team. When addressing my concerns with her, she always was quick to say I'm sorry however NEVER changed her actions. I continue to get the run around and finally uave been asked would I like to get another attorney. ABSOLUTELY not is my response! I have paid for your services do the work! Please do more research when retaining a lawyer. Our money and time matters!

July 8, 2019, I met with attorney Tyson to seek her help in recovering back pay since March 2019. Consultation fee was paid. She listened attentively and recorded any notes. She stated she would write a demand letter. Since that time I have called her 9 times for an update on further meetings / funds needed to proceed. Not one call has been returned. I am very disappointed with this waste of time and money.

Ms. Tyson and her staff were an amazing help with my case. I was lost and had no idea where to go or what to do. I met with Ms. Tyson and she instantly put me at ease. All of my questions were answered and I was kept informed every step of the way. I would highly recommend Ms. Tyson and do any chance I get.

I hired him for a family member, who went to jail because of his incomepetence. Mr. Lewis: 1. Always have different excuses for cannot present for the court: Visiting people in the jail, Hanover county circuit court, Henrico county circuit court, needs to lock the office, etc... 2. Always lethargic: Not sure was caused by sleep apnea or sth, every time he shows up in court, he will find time to take a nap, this was not professional at all. 3. Never prepare for the case: He will forget everything you told him literally the next day, and he will always bring an empty folder to your court date, pretending take few notes on his "Yellow letter sheets", each time he will bring new blank paper, never combined the notes. 4.Deceptive to his clients, him and his paralegal Raman Kneep tried their best to cover the story that Matt Pinsker was incarcerated for felony sexually assaulted female intern, this was a direct violation of Bar Association code and ethics. 5. Never admitted that he doesn't know anything: He will do his best to pretend everything is under control, and he will back asking you what had happened to cover his nonsense. 6. Procrastination: A single request to him will always takes couple weeks to reply. 7. Not physically fit as a lawyer: Always be stuttered and precarious for how to answer the questions, almost every directions he gave to the clients were detrimental to their fates, he will keep f**k you up until your life is screwed up by the court.

I’m writing this review to help others save money and not waste their time and jeopardize their court cases. Hiring Pinsker Law was the worst decision I ever made. I’d give negative stars if I could. Initially Matt was eager to take my case so I hired him, as he had great reviews. However, soon after I had paid and hired him another lawyer who is well known called me back and warned me that something wasn’t right. As soon as I googled him some charges came up. Matt reassured me that his case was dismissed and everything was fine. So, I begin working with him. Although, he was representing me I wasn’t exactly happy with his service. He just didn’t seem that interested in my case nor did he have the zeal or interests that he had when I first hired him. When it was time to go to court, Matt was a no show. I later found out by his back up lawyer that he had been sent to jail. Again, matt had told me that his case against him was dismissed and he was ok. So that was warning sign number 1. I should’ve requested a refund and hired a new attorney at this point. However, mr. Charles lewis said he’d take over my case in Matt’s place. This was the worst mistake I’ve ever made in my life. Even with all of his credentials and years of experience, Mr. Lewis seemed like newbie and fish out of water when it came to my case. Twice he was unprepared for my case and each time asked for an extension. After the first time I should’ve hired a different lawyer. This was like the 2nd mistake I made. Mr. Lewis made a habit of arriving late to all of my court appearances. At the last court case, he came over an hour late and had the judge and bailiff upset. Not only was he late, but also unprepared per usual. I was pissed!!! He didn’t defend me like we talked about over the phone. It’s like his mind went blank when it was time to represent me. I’m pretty sure a 1st year law student could’ve have defended me better than him. Not only was I found guilty, but I wasted thousands of dollars hiring them. I’ve never heard of pissed poor service like this in my life. I beg of you, please do not make the same mistake I made. I’m writing this to help someone. My experience was nightmarish and like something out of a movie. You will regret it. I’m only writing this because I care about people. You’ve been warned.

Mr. Lewis was professional, knowledgeable and highly responsive to all my questions. He was transparent and and offered encouragement and inspiration. I truly believe without his review and guidance I may not have been given the amazing opportunity I was provided with. I would absolutely recommend his services!

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
