Corey represented me in a detention hearing for a probation violation two days ago. Clearly, she was successful in securing my bond. Her preparation was impeccable. She made sure to get in contact with anyone who could help my situation and it was that preparation that made the difference. In the courtroom, she proficiently conveyed my situation to the judge and I can't be happier with the outcome. She has been very accessible for me in the meantime and returned my call as soon as she got to the office in the morning. I would encourage anybody looking for an attorney that actually cares about their situation to hire Ms. Endo. Because that's what makes the difference, an attorney who cares about your case as much as you do!

A friend was visiting and involved in an auto accident, which included a potential DUI. Kim was very effective and professional in helping the out of state visitor navigate the Pierce County system. Kim was able to quickly adjust her schedule to ensure the right papers were filed, helped my friend work with the courts for dates that worked. Once in court, it was apparent that Kim is well-respected by Pierce County judges. My friend was able to resolve the issue before leaving town, thanks to Kim's help.

Mr Goldsmith represented my family member in an extremely racially biased trial. He fought for my family members civil rights, and represented him with his all. Unfortunately the case was lost and my family member is serving time. Mr Goldsmith has kept in touch with him and his family not only for moral support an assistance with a possible resentencing. Mr Goldsmith's current help will most likely save my family members life as he is very old has health issues and is being exposed to covid-19 . Bless you Mr Goldsmith you are a fabulous human being

I was in need of Legal representation on a very short notice, and I had contacted several attorneys, who were unavailable, and was referred to Maureen Mckeeman. She was able to take on my case and immediately went to work. She went out of her way to meet with me, due to my hectic schedule. Maureen Mckeeman is professional, intelligent, charismatic, personable and genuine in her desire to help those in need. I would hire her again and highly recommend her. Again, thank you so much! Keep up the great work!

Called Jeff regarding a traffic ticket fine I was issued a while back. Jeff was able to give me some insight as to the questions I should ask, as well as if his services would be needed to expedite a resolution. I'd recommend Jeff just on the experience I had in asking for some legal insight. He's definitely positioned himself as my first choice in legal counsel and representation! Thanks Jeff for all of your help, as well as all of the future help you'll be giving me!

Recently, I hired another attorney and they were fine, however, family law was all that they could handle. Mr Bellmer was able to handle criminal as well as family law, because domestic violence was used. His ability to move back and forth through different courts amazed me just how he could keep up with all of it along with his many other clients. Regarding me, he had a mountain of STUFF to overcome even with me interrupting him, he was still able to methodically and systematically overcome everything the opposing lawyer accused me of. Currently, he has righted my ship and now I personally feel that I am in a position to win. I would like to add that I am innocent, so justice will prevail. If you are guilty, then there is not much any attorney can do for you except get you a lesser sentence or sanction.

Eric W. Ferguson took two personal injury cases I couldn’t get other attorneys to touch, and won them both, for quite fair settlements. I was referred to him by a friend of a friend, who had a similarly successful experience. I found Eric to be personable, a straight shooter, honest, with a sense of humor. He’s a younger attorney than some, and in that early career stage where he’s still accessible, and not just chasing the huge dollar, big cases. The two cases: #1: Behind an espresso establishment, my left foot rolled off the edge of a small paver, which had been set unevenly, in a path across a bark area. My fifth metatarsal snapped. I’m in my sixties. It took four months for the thing to heal. That was in 2010. A downtown attorney told me there wasn’t a case. Eric took it and negotiated a respectable settlement from the property management company’s insurance agency. #2: My truck was tail-ended on the Alaskan Way Viaduct, in 2011. The driver pulled a hit-and-run, but I had his license number. Damage to my truck was minimal, but the impact caused my post-surgery lower back problems to make my left foot numb. Again, other attorneys I talked to weren’t optimistic about me having a case. Evidence and medical bills were small, but Eric negotiated a settlement from the other driver’s insurance company.

My best friend had a super old DUI conviction she was trying to take care of. This one was a little bit outside the norm as it had was 14yrs old and Susan pulled out all the stops. She researched the heck out of the old case law and really fought to get the best result she could for my friend. Lets just say that she did more than the 4K lawyer I had a few years ago. In short if I ever needed a fierce public defender I would request Susan. I am in shock i am the only review here. She went above and beyond and for a public defender she should get an award!

Omar personifies integrity, expertise and result. I had the opportunity to hire him on multiple cases. He gives objective and honest legal advice, and always has in mind what is in the best interest of the client (not what goes in his pocket). Each time he worked on a case, he had excellent results. I highly recommend him.

I have gone to this man a couple of times and ready to go to him again. He is fair and gives great guidance. Listens to you. He has wisdom to offer, not just knowledge. His services are one of a kind. Better than our family member who is an attorney. He is also very respectful and cares about our feelings. He puts things in perspective. I always refer him. All of them said he was useful and they were all satisfied with results. I am very thankful to finally have found an attorney that I am confident in. I have met several other attorneys that were slimy and didn't care about a person welfare. I thank God for somebody like him!

In 2015 I entered into a twenty month contract for the purchase of a horse. The final payment date of August 4, 2017. March 2017 due to financial issues with my business I was going to have to sell the horse, negotiate an extension of payment, or return the horse. I sent a letter to the owners laying out the possible options, as well as getting permission to sell. I was contacted by their attorney. It was pay the balance on or before August 2017, yes I could sell the horse under specific conditions. If not they would file suit for Breach of Contract. I was unable to get the horse sold. By July the finances changed an I would be able to make the payments but would need to extend the deadline. I contacted Mr. Kover for advice and his professional help. He explained the process of this type of lawsuit to me in layman’s terms and came up with several options. He then took over the negotiations and I am making the final payments with an extended deadline. Mr. Kover was professional and answered all my questions. He made himself available. I will be keeping him as my attorney for my professional as well as personal legal needs.

In addition to providing excellent counsel, Mr. Rembert showed great concern and compassion for our family member. Mr. Rembert, because of his excellent legal mind, diligence, and tenacity succeeded in getting a positive legal result from a situation that could have been devastating to the life plans of our family member. In addition, Mr. Rembert helped our family member get the help needed to overcome a serious addiction issue. Thanks to Mr. Rembert's efforts our family member not only graduated from college but did so without having a police record to "cloud" his future. I would highly recommend Mr. Rembert as a highly qualified and very effective lawyer.

I know Eric handles a lot of “big” cases. He represented me in boating DUI, which was a “big” case to me. I had refused the breath test – which is a $2,000,00 fine. He beat that. The DUI charge itself he was able to get reduced to a non-criminal traffic ticket. He is a competitive person and gave my case the same attention as he does the higher profile cases.

I saw the things she did on my behalf...she is very good at what she does and through all her cases she still has compassion.

Zach Brusseau is an amazing lawyer- tireless, knowledgeable and patient to the extreme. Despite him being a public defender, he treats every case as if it was the only/most important one. After watching him interact with not just myself, but other clients/defendants, it is obvious that it is very important to him that those he represent understand every aspect of their charges and alternatives for resolution. He patiently walks you step by step through any questions you may have and shows a massive amount of compassion toward his clients and their circumstances. I might have missed a trial date if it was not for him calling and advising me of the date and discussing where we were with things! Even when he is overwhelmed with cases, Zach, will never try to urge you to settle when you shouldn’t. He is a VERY CAPABLE AND PROFESSIONAL LAWYER- I never had to worry about anything. In the end Mr. Brusseau was able to secure me a stipulated order of continuance on my assault 4 case; I was floored and so happy I shed tears of joy after I walked out of court and got into my car. I would recommend his advocacy to anyone and everyone looking for an optimal outcome from a very efficient, patient, empathetic, and skilled lawyer. Given how amazingly he handles the hundreds of cases he currently has, I the firm fortunate enough to sign him.

What a Criminal Defense Lawyer Can Do for You

A criminal defense lawyer provides legal representation to individuals or organizations accused of criminal conduct. If you're facing criminal charges, a defense lawyer will work to protect your rights, build a defense strategy, and ensure you receive a fair trial. Their primary goal is to reduce or dismiss charges, secure an acquittal, or negotiate a favorable plea deal.

Criminal defense lawyers have extensive knowledge of criminal law and court procedures. They investigate your case, identify weaknesses in the prosecution's evidence, and represent you in court, ensuring that you have the best possible defense.

When Should I Hire a Criminal Defense Lawyer?

It’s crucial to hire a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible if you are facing any criminal charges. Some situations in which you should seek legal representation include:

  • Arrest or police questioning: If you've been arrested or are under investigation, hiring a lawyer early on can prevent self-incrimination and protect your rights during police questioning.
  • Felony charges: Crimes such as murder, assault, drug trafficking, or robbery carry severe penalties, including long prison sentences. A defense lawyer is essential in these cases.
  • Misdemeanor charges: Even for less serious offenses like DUI, theft, or simple assault, a lawyer can help reduce penalties, negotiate alternatives to jail, or get charges dismissed.
  • Plea negotiations: If you’re considering a plea bargain, a lawyer can evaluate the deal, advise you on its consequences, and negotiate for more favorable terms.
  • Probation or parole violations: If you’ve been accused of violating probation or parole, a lawyer can defend you against additional penalties or revocation.
  • Juvenile offenses: For minors charged with criminal acts, a criminal defense lawyer can protect their future by minimizing legal repercussions or keeping the case in juvenile court.

What Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Do?

Criminal defense lawyers provide comprehensive legal services to protect their clients’ rights throughout the criminal justice process. Their duties include:

  • Case evaluation and investigation: Reviewing the evidence, interviewing witnesses, and investigating the facts to develop a strong defense strategy.
  • Legal advice: Advising you on your rights, the charges you’re facing, and potential defense strategies, including whether to take a plea deal or go to trial.
  • Negotiating plea bargains: Working with prosecutors to negotiate a plea deal that could reduce charges or minimize penalties.
  • Court representation: Representing you in all court hearings, including bail hearings, pretrial motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
  • Filing motions: Filing motions to dismiss charges, suppress evidence, or reduce bail, depending on the specifics of your case.
  • Trial preparation and defense: Preparing a defense strategy and presenting arguments, evidence, and witnesses during trial to contest the prosecution's case.
  • Appeals: If you are convicted, a defense lawyer can appeal the conviction or sentence, arguing errors in the trial process or legal rulings.

How Are Criminal Defense Lawyers Paid?

Criminal defense lawyers generally charge clients in one of three ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: For straightforward cases (e.g., minor misdemeanors), some lawyers charge a one-time flat fee that covers all aspects of the defense.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing cases, lawyers may charge by the hour, with rates varying based on the lawyer’s experience and geographic location.
  • Retainer fee: In cases where extensive work is expected, the client may pay a retainer fee upfront. The lawyer then bills against that retainer for their work on the case.

The cost of criminal defense services can vary greatly, so it’s important to discuss fees during your initial consultation.

How Much Does a Criminal Defense Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a criminal defense lawyer depends on several factors, including the severity of the charges, the complexity of the case, and the lawyer’s experience. General cost guidelines are:

  • Misdemeanor cases: For relatively minor offenses, such as a DUI or petty theft, a flat fee may range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • Felony cases: More serious charges, such as assault or drug trafficking, can range from $10,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the complexity and duration of the case.
  • Hourly rates: For cases billed by the hour, lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on their expertise and the case's location.
  • Additional expenses: You may also be responsible for other costs, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, or the cost of private investigators.

Be sure to clarify the lawyer’s fee structure and any potential additional costs during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Criminal Defense Lawyer

Before hiring a criminal defense lawyer, you’ll want to ensure that they’re a good fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has a strong track record with the specific type of criminal charges you’re facing, whether it’s DUI, drug offenses, or violent crimes.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services and whether you’ll be responsible for any additional costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
A good lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case and the likelihood of dismissal, a plea bargain, or conviction.
  4. How many cases have you taken to trial?
While many criminal cases settle with a plea deal, it’s important to hire a lawyer with courtroom experience in case your case goes to trial.
  5. Who will handle my case?
Ask if the lawyer will be personally involved or if other attorneys in the firm will handle most of the work.
  6. How do you communicate with your clients?
Be clear on how often and through what channels you can expect updates on your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Criminal Defense Lawyer

To verify the credibility of a criminal defense lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check their standing with the state bar: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any past disciplinary actions or complaints.
  • Read online reviews and testimonials: Platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google can provide insights from previous clients about the lawyer’s communication, professionalism, and case outcomes.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should have past clients or other professionals who can speak to their competence and work ethic.
  • Review their case history: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to see their experience with criminal cases, including high-profile or complex cases.
  • Look for trial experience: If your case might go to trial, make sure the lawyer has a strong history of courtroom advocacy and success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your first consultation with a criminal defense lawyer, bring the following:

  • Details of your case: Be prepared to provide a detailed account of the charges against you, including any documents related to your arrest, police reports, and court dates.
  • Criminal history: If you have any prior criminal convictions, inform your lawyer so they can understand how that may affect your current case.
  • List of witnesses or evidence: If there are any potential witnesses or evidence that may support your defense, share this information during the consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare questions about their experience, legal strategy, and fees to ensure you understand how they will handle your case.
  • Bail or release documents: If you’ve been released on bail, bring any paperwork related to your release conditions or restrictions.

By being well-prepared, you can help your lawyer quickly assess your situation and begin building an effective defense strategy.
