At the beginning they were interested in my case but they weren't contacting me, I was the one trying to connect to them all the time, they were focused on the chiropractor but not on the property damage. They didn't reply my emails not my phone calls, now there is no contact at all. So I had to hire another lawyer. They don't care about your case if they won't get a good compensation. Definitely, don't choose them if you don't have injuries or health problems.

They were very unhelpful. Didn’t answer my questions. I’ve never dealt with a Law Firm like this before. They were recommended highly from other law firms, and they couldn’t even give me an answer. Why?

Let me tell my story, I was in a car an auto accident Feb of 2023 I was back ended at a stop light while the other driver was on the phone. A couple days after the accident I Contact Morgan and Morgan. Talked to them about my case they made it seems like a no brainer and that they told me it was their percentage is 33% and an additional 7% if it goes to tail and was told these cases never go to trial. So their representative, (first mistake) gained my trust and I signed. After almost 2 years after being bounced for one attorney to another and multiple paralegals I was told they lost my file and top of that they have never sent me a copy of the contract. Now the fun part, their attorney/paralegal contacted first time end of July of 2024, told me that they were sending over a demand letter now in August of 2024 and it was accepted in September of 2024 but never told about it until end of October of 2024. There was no mediation no need to file a lawsuit (by the way they filed a lawsuit in March of 2024) that way they were guaranty their 7% bonus without going to trail. I feel that I was misrepresent and failed on fiduciary responsibility, basically screwed out of $7000 at settlement. And this is really the fun part is that they gave me 13 minutes to sign the settlement I asked for an hour to review it and was told no and was told that I had to sign it now (I have the text messages). Buy the way they never went over the settlement statement so they wanted to bury it and hope I would not catch, it any ways I got home and reviewed it and immediately called the paralegal and was told to basically told to pound sand and that I signed it, and this was also their attorney stand. I contact a friend who is an attorney and highly suggested to file a complaint with the bar which I in the process of doing now. Moral of the story beware their firm is not what they seem to be it is truly not Morgan and Morgan for the people their tag line should be Morgan and Morgan for Morgan and Morgan. So, my advice is to stay away they are not to be trusted.

Hired Jordan Isringhaus to defend me in a small claims lawsuit. We countersued. Case is still ongoing, but appears to be wrapping up soon. No matter what happens, there is no doubt that Jordan represented my interests with his superb expertise & judgment. Jordan kept me informed every bit of the way, answered all my questions, and I am extremely pleased with his professional integrity. I wish I had found Jordan earlier! But now, I know who to call! Jordan should hold ethics classes for other attorneys The Florida Bar should be proud! Thank you Jordan !

I was fortunate to have read a review of a similar situation I was going through in which I was sued by a company out of Florida for a water softener that was purchased back in 2005. To make a long story short I lost the house and everything in it, but the company (ISPC) felt it was right to garnish all my wages, my hard working pay in 2018. They wanted over $11000 and were going to take every penny I had and made if I didn't take action. I live in Texas and was completely lost on what I was going to do. LeavenLaw connected me to Jordan Isringhaus who immediately setup a phone conversation with me and told me how he would help me out. Fast forward a couple weeks after my initial consultation, Jordan has won my case and I have my money back in my bank. For anyone needing a consumer debt lawyer, look no further for Jordan T. Isringhaus is "THE MAN!"

He was very professional and his staff was always there to answer my questions. This is not my first time using Leaven Law and I highly recommend them in the future.

David Sacks is a great attorney! David handled my case that took a few years and handed some of the top corporate attorneys in the industry quite a fight! David is smart and fearless he will not be bullied! I have been involved with illegal termination defense multiple years. David stands up fights and will not be pushed around. You cannot win all of them but the otherside will know they are in a fight when you hire David to defend your rights! You want him on your team!

I hired Mr Sacks back in 2016 to represent me in a lawsuit against my former employer. If I could go back in time and do it all over again would I hire Mr Sacks? Absolutely not. The first time I spoke with Mr Sacks over the phone I obviously did not answer his question properly. About 2 minutes into the conversation when he asked me a question and I answered it he immediately started yelling at me. He told me that a judge and jury would never accept my answer. This struck me as very odd. I had been talking with Mr Sacks for the very first time for a total of maybe 2 minutes and already he was yelling at me as if I were supposed to know exactly what to say, what to do and how to act ? Wow. I will not tell you what you want to hear about Mr Sacks. I will tell you what you NEED to hear about Mr Sacks. I firmly believe that Mr Sacks had determined the outcome of my case long before the final day of mediation. Many of my questions went unanswered and Mr Sacks would simply say to me "trust me". BIG MISTAKE on my part when I did. The final day of mediation is when I realized that I was intentionally left in the dark by Mr Sacks as far as certain specific details of my case were concerned. The mediator was shocked at certain things that did or did not occur during the entire process and duration of my case. So was I. I feel as if the primary objective of Mr Sacks is to keep his client in the dark and to reveal as little information about important details of the case as possible. This will keep his client uninformed to a certain extent and will also allow Mr Sacks to have full control of the outcome of the case. Not to mention, this will also allow him to do so with little or no resistance from his client at all. If Mr Sacks sends his client to a gun fight armed with a butter knife then usually his client will be backed into a corner and forced to submit with little or no resistance at all. I also feel as if this was not Mr Sacks' first rodeo. The day before mediation Mr Sacks refused to answer specific and very important questions of mine as far as how mediation would actually take place and totally blew me off. Mr Sacks told me that " he had many other clients to deal with that day and would just see me in the morning at mediation." Unbelievable !! It seemed as if both Mr Sacks and opposing counsel were doing nothing more than trying to put on a show for everyone the entire time. Many times during depositions Mr Sacks would try to appear to be angry and would get loud and raise his voice at the opposing attorney that represented my former employer. It also seemed as if opposing counsel would "object to form" or object to many other irrelevant aspects of a question simply to disrupt the flow of the questioning that took place during depositions. As far as I was concerned it was nothing more than "posturing on steroids" that was mixed with nonstop blathering by opposing counsel with the objections that were being made every 20 seconds. Sometimes I felt as if I were watching a low budget reality tv show. It was ridiculous at times as far I was concerned and also a very weak attempt to mislead clients that were involved in the case as well as the mediator. The mediator also seemed to be aggravated with certain aspects of the case along with pertinent details that were conveniently left out or not addressed at all. I learned much more about my case from the mediator during the few unnecessary hours spent during mediation than I did the entire time I spent with Mr Sacks on my case. As I mentioned before, I feel as if the final outcome of my case had been decided behind closed doors and long before mediation even took place. During mediation is when I realized what might have actually taken place the entire time and also determined the final outcome of my case, or left me with an ultimatum as far as I was concerned. Due diligence is golden. Food for thought. John from Jacksonville, Fl

I researched many attorney profiles, backgrounds. But, there was only 1 whose sincerity was palpable. That was Joshua S. Danz. He listened to Me patiently for 45 minutes. His representation was so successful for me and my grandson. Everything I hoped for Joshua achieved. He reached out to me on a regular basis. He genuinely cares. Joshua is the consummate professional, profound understanding of the law. But ultimately a fine person. Picking Joshua as my attorney is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

When I found the Sass Law Firm I was experiencing a great deal of emotional pain. I needed an attorney who would listen to me, was professional, had great knowledge about my circumstances, could effectively communicate with me and had the ability to guide me towards the best resolution for my case. Most importantly, I needed someone who would respect my decisions on the progression of my case despite the potential benefits or consequences; whether they were in agreement or not. Ms. Sass has all of those qualities and much more. She and her team are efficient, courteous and exceptionally responsive. Sass Law Firm is not an inexpensive service, but it is an investment in your peace of mind and the procurement of a fierce legal advocate who is championing your cause. Selecting this law firm for a consultation or to litigate your case would be a wise decision. I pray that you choose wisely…I did.

I feel the need to write this 5 star review because when I was in dire need of an attorney, it was all the positive reviews about this firm that helped me pick them to represent me. My attorney Whitney Page was excellent! My case was very complex as it dealt with several parties (life insurance companies) and my sibling as well. Whitney went above and beyond to have justice made on my behalf. Her professional representation, persistence, and knowledge of the law helped me settle my case. I was very impressed with my attorney as well as her legal team including Emily who was my case manager. They were in constant communication with me and I fully trusted them with my case. I would not hesitate in having Jason Turchin's firm represent you. They will fight for you until the end! Seek no more you have found your attorney here!

I went to five different lawyers before choosing Daniel Forrest., and I am so glad I went with Dan. He gave me a breakdown of everything I needed to know in a way that was easy to understand. He took special care to understand the issues in my case and the needs of my family during a difficult time. In my opinion, his office never let anything fall to the wayside. They were on top of it.  It is clear that Dan has a wealth of knowledge and experience. I always felt confident in him. He ran my retainer down to nothing on emails alone. During child custody trial he did not speak up or attempt to dispute any of the non sense said by the guardian. He charged me 320 an hour and was not prepared for trial. He conducts himself very Unprofessionally by how he speak to you. He Is very happy to collect payment for answering emails and making motions but for trial he went belly up. It was embarrassing. I wish I had someone else.. anyone else.

Very nice place to work. Mr. Jones is a good leader, and he is always caring about the team and clients. I'm giving 5 stars and haven't even signed a contract yet with them. I have shopped around with my case with multiple other firms, and had offers. However, this firm caught my attention immediately with their fast responses in emails, phone calls with intake, and moving into a conversation with a lawyer within a day or two. Teri and Jesus from the intake process / information collection were amazing. I'm choosing this firm based on their perseverance and care with my unfortunate situation BEFORE being accepted into their family. I know they will do what they can for me better than most other firms already. Thank you for everything you have done so far!

They got in touch about my case quickly which was great, but the intake counselor (as sweet and helpful as she was) did not seem well prepared to discuss my case and the paralegal I spoke to seemed to become adversarial and dismissive through the course of our conversation. She complained about how much time our call had taken and kept laughing as she told me repeatedly that the attorney most likely wouldn't read all of my documentation before making a decision about whether to take my case. I found this behavior shocking and aggressive and declined to continue pursuing representation from this firm

The clear communication of what to expect and what will be done was there from the beginning and Mr. Cabassa definitely did what he said he was going to do. Thank you, I appreciate all your hardwork and resilience and not taking no for an answer

I hired Greg Owens for my Workerman Comp Case; although he was personable; he didn’t do right by me. The Attorney for the Insurance Company talked him into taking out taxes from my Settlement amount; and it wasn’t until after the fact that I learned that Settlements are Tax- Free. So basically; due to Greg Owen’s lack of knowledge; I lost money I should’ve had in my pocket. When I called him to get a response; he told his assistant to tell me to go and hire a CPA? Thanks Greg! I wouldn’t recommend Greg for anytime of Workerman’s Comp or Unemployment case.

I retained Mr. Owens recently and we are only in the beginning stages of my case. In the few weeks we've been working together he has gone above and beyond to respond to my emails and reach out to me with updates. Being in the legal profession myself, you often do not find an extremely responsive attorney that takes their "off the clock" time to respond and reach out. I'm extremely impressed with his responsiveness and compassion. I definitely felt extremely comfortable moving forward with Mr. Owens and I know he'll work hard to advocate for me as he has already done so. I definitely recommend Mr. Owens as you would not be dissatisfied. Nothing is a guarantee; however knowing your attorney is hard at work for you that in itself is a win.

Do not go near this woman! She is a disaster! Dropped me like a hot box of rocks when she got pregnant. Lied about progress. Failed to communicate. Ignored me for three months. Showed up with a text today saying how sorry she is to decide to close her practice. She already missed a statute of limitations. Said she “has walked this journey with me”. How absurd. She is unstable if she thinks this!

My employer "eliminated my position" when I took a FMLA approved leave in October 2017. I interviewed several attorneys and selected KC to handle my case. KC was extremely knowledgeable and within minutes of our initial meeting ending, she had already sent documents to the company to inform them of our intent to file a lawsuit. Within a few weeks, she was working with them to get me an acceptable severance. KC was able to get me almost 9 times what my past employer had told me was all they would agree to giving me. The negotiations were complete in less than 60 days. KC was not only knowledgeable and confident but her communication with me was outstanding. This all occured during the holidays and she kept me informed through everything. I highly recommend KC and am beyond pleased with the outcome.

Samuel Kanupp represented me in a difficult Whistleblower, FMLA retaliation case, unlawful termination. He is passionate about his work and advocating for those who are unlawfully wronged by current or previous employers. I could not have asked for better representation, Mr. Kanupp quickly understood my situation and the facts of my case. He is extraordinarily well versed in Employment Law, and is passionate about helping people who have suffered unlawful retaliation in his or her employment. Mr. Kanupp is a tireless and compassionate advocate for his client. He submitted all court documents timely and thoroughly, he kept me updated on the process, prepped me for depositions, mediation and counseled me in all aspects of my case. I am most impressed by his ability to direct examine witnesses in deposition. He came well prepared and did a great job. I felt vindicated by the proceedings. It was a healing experience for me to sit-in on the depositions of my former employer with Mr. Kanupp

As a senior paralegal, I have worked with many, many lawyers over the past 30 years. Mr. Thomas is one of the greater advocates I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I am very grateful to have had him in my corner for this critical legal action. He was very knowledgeable of the legal issues of my case and ferreted out the relevant facts to address and apply towards those issues. I could not have asked for a better advocate working on my behalf. When it came to my hearing, he went in with a "let's get to work" attitude. He was easy to work with and kept me informed at every decision point. I cannot thank Mr. Thomas enough for the time and attention in placed toward my case. I would highly recommend Mr. Thomas and his team for any action requiring a labor law attorney.

Attorney Thomas has a great reputation for being a strong arm protector of employee civil rights. Especially with all the obstacles he faces with Florida laws in favor of the employer. He has his work cut out for him because of the horrific laws. However, he is a great attorney and will work very hard to protect his clients no matter what obstacles in his way. Thank you Attorney Archibald (and his Paralrgal Daniella) for taking on my case and protecting my civil rights!

I was accepted as a client for a discrimination case against a former employer and signed the contract with them in May. I never filed a complaint with the EEOC because I ignorantly assumed that my attorney would be handling that for me. They waited until October, one month past the deadline to file with the EEOC, to notify me that they were dropping me as a client because they aren't licensed to practice in the state that I live in. Absolutely unacceptable!

Ware has now represented/advised me on 4 different legal matters, and two of them were not a formal engagement, but just reflective of his hidden compassion, whereas he never asked for a penny for his attentive help to educate my engaged attorney’s that only focused on billing! Ware has responded to messages during the early hours to quell my fears! Or his generosity of his off hours, by taking time on a Sunday, or while vacationing in the keys with limited cell service to address my concerns, that no attorney of his caliber would ever do, especially after 40+ years of private practice! He will try to and states that he keeps the emotions out of his process, and that he cant take an emotional stake in my cases, and he adamantly sticks to the rule of law, but his generosity of his time and help in cases that he has no financial interest in suggests otherwise. I have unfortunately had to engage 8 lawyers over the last 6 years, and his professionalism and his understated genuine hidden nature to protect and nurture his clients is a quality that reveals itself over the years. He genuinely cares to the accuracy and legal adherence to the rule of law and is beyond generous with his time! His assistant “Brittne” is so sweet, compassionate and reflects Wares’s core values.. in my opinion” integrity, honesty, caring compassionate advocate of my rights” I have not been 100% successful in all the matters that was represented for me. But if you want to have an attorney that is so brilliant and detailed and attentive, then Mr Cornell is the only lawyer you should consider. His is unlike any attorney I have ever engaged and if you want representation by the “shark” whereas all other attorneys swim in his pond!

We met regarding a labor case involving my employer and an ongoing Disablity discrimination and retaliatory harassment case. Even though we have not formally filed any charges because of special reasons, he already knows what he has to do to reduce expenses and get the end result we would like to see. He has measured the cons against the pros and gave his opinion based on what he knows about my employer and the type of courts we have here in Florida. My impression is that He is very knowledgeable and a matter of fact which I value in a lawyer. I appreciated his honesty even if it was not information I wants to hear. He offered his expertise opinion on how to deal with the case which was a wait and see after I am fired. Even though I’m not happy with having to continue to be harassed and the hostile working conditions I am being subjected to, I know that he will be the best to represent me because he has a plan in place. Immediately after my consultation, I provided over 700 pages of my evidence to him and with a small consultant fee he reviewed it over several weeks. He then scheduled me a few weeks later to discuss the plan and the pros and cons of my case. He did not charge a second consult fee and advised me of the approximate amount it would cost me to hire him for arbitration. He already knows the direction my case will have and what he needs to do. Based on this I feel he is competent and trustworthy. I am confident that he will deliver when the time comes. If you want to consult with an expert labor attorney please do not hesitate to meet with him and get the opinion of a true specialty attorney.

I met with Ware when he was recommended by a friend. I liked him right away, and I hired him. It was my first time hiring an attorney, and I should have asked him more questions to understand his work style. But I liked him and trusted my friend's recommendation. I would have been happier working with an organized, strategic planner. If I had received a phone call or email every couple of months with an update on my case, that would have been better. Had Ware spelled out the specifics of my financial obligations to him up front instead of sending me seemingly random and sporadic invoices, I would have trusted him more. But what really bothered me is that Ware took away ownership of my case. I told him I wanted to be at all the depositions for my case, but instead he held them without my knowledge. He did not consult with me to learn details that these depositions could have brought to light. I never heard from him after depositions with a summary of what took place. As I see it, this was my case, and Ware was there to help me, but he seemed to think I had little role in it. In the end, the real value of my case was over 200K less than his original estimate. When did he break this news to me? On the morning before the final mediation. It's been two years since my case concluded, and I waited to write this review because I wanted to see if time would soften my perspective. In the past two years, I've gotten to know dozens of attorneys through my current job, and have a clearer picture of attorneys can potentially operate. They can be organized. They can be transparent communicators. They can keep their clients in the loop. But Ware doesn't.

What a Discrimination Lawyer Can Do for You

A discrimination lawyer specializes in handling cases where individuals or groups face unfair treatment based on protected characteristics, such as race, gender, age, religion, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation. These lawyers assist clients in filing discrimination claims, representing them in legal proceedings, and ensuring that their rights under federal, state, and local laws are upheld. Discrimination cases may arise in employment, housing, education, public accommodations, or other settings.

Whether you’ve been discriminated against at work, denied housing, or treated unfairly in other areas of life, a discrimination lawyer can help you navigate the legal process and seek compensation or corrective action.

When Should I Hire a Discrimination Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a discrimination lawyer in several situations where unfair treatment occurs based on protected characteristics. Common scenarios include:

  • Employment Discrimination:
    • Workplace discrimination: If you’ve been treated unfairly at work because of your race, gender, disability, religion, age, sexual orientation, or another protected status, a lawyer can help you file a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) or a similar state agency.
    • Wrongful termination: If you were fired due to discrimination or retaliation for reporting discriminatory behavior, a lawyer can assist with filing a lawsuit and seeking compensation for lost wages, emotional distress, and other damages.
    • Failure to promote: If you’ve been denied a promotion or opportunities due to discriminatory practices, a lawyer can investigate the claim and represent you in legal actions against your employer.
    • Harassment: If you’ve experienced workplace harassment, such as sexual harassment or a hostile work environment based on your race, gender, or other characteristics, a lawyer can help you pursue legal remedies.
  • Housing Discrimination:
    • Denial of housing: If you’ve been denied housing due to your race, disability, family status, or other protected factors, a lawyer can help you file a complaint with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or sue the landlord or property manager for violating the Fair Housing Act.
    • Unfair rental practices: If a landlord or property manager treats you unfairly based on discriminatory factors (e.g., refusing reasonable accommodations for a disability), a lawyer can help you enforce your rights.
  • Education Discrimination:
    • Discrimination in schools: If you or your child has faced discrimination in an educational setting based on race, disability, gender, or religion, a lawyer can help you file complaints under laws like Title VI, Title IX, or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Public Accommodations:
    • Denial of services: If a business or public service has discriminated against you based on race, gender, disability, or other protected characteristics, a lawyer can assist you in filing a complaint or lawsuit under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or other anti-discrimination laws.

Hiring a discrimination lawyer early can help protect your rights and ensure that your claim is filed within legal deadlines.

What Does a Discrimination Lawyer Do?

A discrimination lawyer provides a range of legal services to help individuals and groups fight against discriminatory practices. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Filing discrimination claims: A lawyer can help you file a complaint with government agencies, such as the EEOC, HUD, or your state’s human rights commission. They ensure that your claim is properly documented and filed within required time limits.
  • Investigating discrimination claims: Discrimination lawyers gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review documents to build a strong case for proving discriminatory practices.
  • Negotiating settlements: In many cases, a lawyer can negotiate a settlement with the employer, landlord, or other party involved in the discrimination case, seeking compensation or corrective action without going to trial.
  • Representing clients in court: If your case goes to court, a lawyer will represent you during hearings, present evidence, and argue your case before a judge or jury.
  • Handling retaliation claims: If you face retaliation for filing a discrimination complaint or reporting discriminatory practices, a lawyer can help you pursue a retaliation claim.
  • Advising on legal rights: A discrimination lawyer explains your legal rights under federal and state anti-discrimination laws, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the ADA, the Fair Housing Act, and others.

How Are Discrimination Lawyers Paid?

Discrimination lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the expected duration of the legal process. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: Many discrimination lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case. Their fee is usually a percentage of the settlement or court award, typically ranging from 25% to 40%.
  • Hourly rate: For cases that don’t involve a contingency fee arrangement, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates for discrimination lawyers generally range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler legal tasks, such as drafting a discrimination complaint or providing legal advice, some lawyers may charge a flat fee.
  • Pro bono or reduced fees: Some discrimination lawyers offer pro bono (free) or reduced-fee services, especially in cases involving low-income clients or significant civil rights issues.

It’s important to discuss fee arrangements during your initial consultation to ensure that you understand the total cost of legal services and how payment will be handled.

How Much Does a Discrimination Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a discrimination lawyer depends on factors like the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the potential for a settlement or trial. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If the lawyer works on a contingency basis, their fee will typically range from 25% to 40% of any settlement or court award. For example, if you win a settlement of $50,000 and the lawyer’s fee is 30%, they would receive $15,000, and you would keep the remaining $35,000.
  • Hourly rates: Discrimination lawyers who charge by the hour typically bill between $200 and $600 per hour. For example, a case that takes 20 hours of legal work at $300 per hour would cost $6,000 in legal fees.
  • Flat fees: Some legal services, such as filing a discrimination complaint or providing a legal consultation, may be available for a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale fees: In some cases, particularly for low-income individuals, lawyers may offer reduced fees or work pro bono.

Always ask for a detailed estimate of costs during your consultation, and clarify whether the lawyer offers flexible payment options.

Top Questions to Ask a Discrimination Lawyer

Before hiring a discrimination lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and qualifications to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with discrimination cases?
Ensure that the lawyer has handled discrimination cases similar to yours, whether it involves employment, housing, or public accommodation discrimination.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee, hourly rate, or flat fee, and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs.
  3. What are my chances of success?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of your case, including potential challenges and the likelihood of success.
  4. How long will the process take?
Discrimination cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take, from filing a complaint to reaching a settlement or going to trial.
  5. Will I need to go to court?
Ask whether your case is likely to settle out of court or if a trial may be necessary. If a trial is possible, ask what steps the lawyer will take to prepare.
  6. What damages or remedies can I seek?
Ask about the types of compensation or corrective action you can pursue, such as back pay, emotional distress damages, job reinstatement, or policy changes.
  7. What steps should I take to protect my rights?
Ask for advice on how to document evidence, handle workplace or housing interactions, and avoid retaliation while your case is pending.

How to Check the Credibility of a Discrimination Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable discrimination lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their bar status: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and in good standing with the state bar association. You can check this on your state bar’s website.
  • Look for discrimination case experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in employment law, civil rights, or discrimination cases and have successfully handled similar cases in the past.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about their experience with the lawyer.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on discrimination matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for certifications or memberships in civil rights organizations or employment law associations, such as the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a discrimination lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed account of the discrimination: Provide a clear description of the discriminatory actions, including dates, locations, and individuals involved. Document specific incidents and any witnesses who can support your claim.
  • Workplace or housing records: Bring copies of relevant employment or housing documents, such as job performance evaluations, rental agreements, emails, or written correspondence related to the discrimination.
  • Company or organization policies: If the discrimination occurred in the workplace or housing, bring copies of company policies, employee handbooks, or housing agreements that outline anti-discrimination policies.
  • Evidence of damages: Provide evidence of any financial losses, such as lost wages, job termination, or increased rent, as well as emotional or psychological distress caused by the discrimination.
  • Previous complaints or actions: If you’ve filed previous complaints or taken any action related to the discrimination, such as reporting the issue to HR or filing a complaint with a government agency, bring copies of those documents.
  • Questions about the process: Prepare a list of questions about your legal options, potential outcomes, and the lawyer’s approach to handling your case.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice for pursuing your discrimination claim.
