I can’t say enough about Eugenia Walls. Eugenia Walls is outstanding. Most law offices don’t care about you as an individual. They just want billable hours. Every step of the way she understood my financial situation. I still wanted a great lawyer and I actually got both. She sat me down and told me exactly what she would do. She did just that. As dad I couldn’t be happier. She’s smart and a pitbull. I was out of mediation at the two hour mark with every single thing I asked for! I’m still staring at my papers in disbelief.

I am a caregiver for both my elderly parents. While getting their affairs in order, we encountered the Morrison Law Firm at a senior event in Peachtree City. The representatives were very lovely and understanding of my parents' needs, so we decided to make an appointment. When we visited, the owner met with us but focused solely on my father. After learning about their income, he persistently told my father that he could do whatever he wanted because he made enough money. He emphasized the benefits of assisted living and how my father could manage his finances. Despite my attempts to ask questions, the owner disregarded me, showing no regard for my role as an advocate for my parents. We continued with the firm because the representatives were helpful, and we knew we would be working with them. However, during a second meeting, the owner again focused only on my father’s financial situation and was disrespectful to me. I tried asking question about Medicaid. He raised his voice, insisting that my parents were his clients and that they had enough money to not care about Medicaid. I repeatedly told him I was seeking to educate myself and my parents about the program and future options for my parents. Again, he kept saying that they don’t want that and they can afford better care. His behavior was unprofessional, treating me as if I were attempting to take advantage of my parents' finances. I wasn’t asking for his option. I wanted information. If we had not already paid for their services, I would have taken my parents elsewhere. I am sure that he wasn’t aware of my military status as I don’t flaunt it but I shouldn’t have tell people that so I can be treated with respect. As a daughter, adult care giver and as a Veteran I do not recommend this firm to anyone caring for elderly parents. I deserve respect as my parents' daughter and advocate, and I will certainly not use their services for my own needs. Unfortunately, We are in contract with them but I sure hope we don’t need his services should anything should change within the next year.

Following the death of my son in 2021, I needed legal help with a complex Will. Being an emotional wreck after my son’s passing, The Meyerson Law Firm took me on as a client. From the very first day I spoke with Mr. Seth Meyerson to the final Court ruling, I received the utmost compassion, patience, and professionalism anyone could possibly imagine. I was kept informed as to what to expect from the Probate Court as well as any delays involving the courts. The Meyerson team stepped in when I was being harassed by my son’s creditors and medical collectors, which was a tremendous help during my emotional healing process. Any concerns or questions were addressed immediately. The one thing Mr. Meyerson shared with me that has resonated and I have shared with all my love ones; have a Will and have it professionally drafted to prevent any controversy or miss wording to eliminate future and unwarranted issues. I can not thank the entire Meyerson Law Firm team enough for being there and helping me through the most difficult time in my life. If you want dedication, professionalism, and compassion, I highly recommend The Meyerson Law Firm. May God continue to bless you ALL.

I have used Natalie's legal services since Feb 2019 and still so today. Highly recommend you call to discuss your needs. At some point in your life you will most likely need a lawyer's services and where do you go searching - the internet of course as most of us don't want share our need with friends/family so that's where the confusing part begins - who to select, who to trust, who can we afford, do we really need them. Some of us will see that big attorney commercial and call and become a billable number - been there done that before as well. Who do you think is paying for that commercial and big office and big staff - you are! I was referred to Natalie by 2 separate friends (not in the same friend group who I actually shared my situation with). I am glad I called and followed their recommendation. She is a small boutique attorney that takes her time to help and guide you through your legal needs. You want just be another client, you will be her client. You may make a new friend in the process. She takes each case and personally involves herself to fight the fight for your legal rights. She specializes in many areas of family law - divorce, wills, guardianship, power of attorney, trusts, probate, child custody, special needs (is a parent to special needs child). She not only knows the law but knows how to use the law in the courtroom to help your case. She gives you her cell number, who does that? She does! She will get back to you as her schedule and your schedule allows days/nights/weekends/holidays if need be. Who does that? Natalie does that. While no attorney can specialize in every field of law, she knows if she can help you or if she needs to refer you to her well known attorney associates that perhaps would be better fitted for your needs. We are all human with emotions and financial/non-financial needs - chances are she has also experienced first-hand in her own life what you may be going through now. Don't hesitate any longer - give her a call, tell her Big E recommended her.

Divorce is never fun but Natalie made the experience easy and quick. She answered all my questions even though I thought some of them were stupid she never made me feel inferior, even when I had to ask her twice. Since I don’t plan on getting divorced again I can’t say I would use her again, LOL, but I would definitely recommend her to any of my close friends.

If I could give a zero I would due to the unprofessionalism that has not changed from a previous review. Attorney Keith Miles lost a client because he responds without reading for understanding. My sister was willing to come in person with her ID because she doesn't have a relationship with LegalShield/Prepaid Legal and this attorney became rude in his communication about a general question not specific to any person that he didn't want to even find out about. Now our family who makes decisions together knowing only one POA can authorize at a time will find another attorney to ask a general question before we retain. We just buried our father (who I was his POA) a month ago and to deal with this type of behavior from someone we could potentially hire is unacceptable at any time. A review with screenshots of the texts from his portal will be made with LegalShield/Prepaid Legal as well. I recommend if you are referred to Attorney Miles to ask to speak to someone to make sure there is no misunderstanding of what you are seeking before using the portal. I appreciate him apologizing on 12/23/24 via Google Review.

I took the SFST student course and found it to be absolutely fantastic. As a criminal defense attorney, the material I learned will be imperative to my practice. Now knowing how to administer the tests and look for the clues, I will easily be able to detect when the tests are done improperly producing unreliable results. Each instructor was over the top phenomenal, especially Anthony who is extremely knowledgeable and genuinely ensures everyone gets what they came for. I was privileged to take his course and anyone thinking about it should sign up asap. I traveled from out of state. Worth it. Thank you for being such a great resource!

I thought they were alright but they appear to nickel and dime you for everything. I don't have an issue paying for services rendered but to be charged for a phone conference about potential services for a new tax issue seems unethical. They'd successfully assisted me with state tax issue. And because that particular issue was resolved efficiently, I requested a phone conference for a new tax issue because the details of the issue were complicated and a phone conversation was simply more efficient. They charged me almost $700 for the conference call AND the response to the emails that I sent requesting the conference call AND the follow-up emails they sent after the conference. That is absolutely unfair. These were calls about assisting with a new issue. You mean to tell me I was charged to ask questions on whether or not they could be of assistance and then charged for the emails they responded to? Absolutely not.

They were successful in obtaining medical eligibility care for my older brother. It was harder than anticipated, but I am so grateful to Hurley Elder Care for being there for me. Thank you on behalf of my whole family!

I’m not someone who typically writes reviews, unless I’m really frustrated by a negative experience. After my mom passed away recently, my life felt completely chaotic. Thankfully, I discovered Latawsha, who guided me through the probate process during this tough time. If I had chosen that well-known probate firm I initially spoke to, I would have paid five times more for the same bottom line service. I hope I never have to face probate again, but if I do, I’ll know exactly who to turn to first. Thank you to the entire team over at Georgia Will and Probate. Travis

Was not helpful in the slightest. Instead of giving any helpful advice even though they couldn't help us, they pushed us aside as if they didn't care about our legal and troubling issues. I directly asked for a referral if they couldn't do it themselves and I never got a response. Talk about being selfish. I'll never recommend anyone that isn't for what's right and just. Bottom line.

My husband and I had completed a will on-line but there were a number of components that we were not comfortable with so we made an appointment with Brad Sperr. He was highly recommended on a UGA website, and he did not disappoint. Mr. Sperr is very knowledgeable, extremely patient, and was veryadept in explaining absolutely every detail of our will. It is easy to get crossed-up in the legal terminology but he explained everything to our satisfaction. He was helpful in so many ways and we had no doubts about any of the decisions we made. We highly recommend Brad Sperr for any legal matter you may have.

We were very pleased with Sperr Law. This is the third time I've had a will and related documents prepared. Brad asked plenty of questions in advance so the draft was close to what I wanted. He gave us advice on using the beneficiary option on some accounts to avoid having them go through probate. All in all, I highly recommend Brad Sperr.

Having decided to rewrite my will, I had to find a qualified attorney. After asking around and not finding anyone, I went online to look up lawyers in my area and read reviews. There were several that sounded good but either didn’t take the time to call me or requested that I make an appointment at $300 an hour. Jay Fox was very gracious. He called me within an hour or two and we talked for maybe 20 minutes to a half hour. He assured me that he didn’t charge for this initial consultation, only if I decided to enlist his services. He was so helpful and detail oriented, unlike me. He thought of everything that I didn’t. He turned an unpleasant chore into a satisfying outcome. I highly recommend this man.

Atty. Jay Fox, is very helpful, knowledgeable and we are very glad that we came across his profile when we were searching on how to start the process of getting trust and will. We could tell that he is very experienced and that he made the process as easy as possible. We could tell that he devoted his time in explaining things to us. We were very intimidated in starting the process but he made us feel reassured and he answered all of our questions. He was available when we needed changes to our documents, very honest and definitely professional. I have recommended him to my friends, coworkers and relatives. He understood our concerns and limitations (being first time in creating trust/ will ). We are extremely grateful that we found him and that he was able to help us with our trust and will creation.

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
