Michael Willis is a true professional and a great attorney. The paralegals there are all extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and they listen to all of your concerns. The most important thing is that they get results, the results you’re looking for… and that, is what matters most!

I worked with Neda Mohebbi-Cheverie from the above law group. She worked on the sale of my home. I found her and her staff to be very professional, knowledgeable and communicative. My experience with Neda was the very best I've ever had with an attorney. I highly recommend working with her. She will keep you updated every step of the way and will explain anything that you do not understand. Bravo to Neda.

My experience with Julie Burick, a divorce and family law attorney at Adinolfi, Lieberman, Burick, Roberto & Molotsky, P.A., was nothing short of outstanding. Ms. Burick is an excellent attorney who is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Certified Matrimonial Law Attorney, which means; she has been recognized as an expert in divorce and family law matters. Ms. Burick took over my year-and –half case with the utmost professionalism and care. Ms. Burick fought tirelessly for my case, and especially my children. Ms. Burick took the time to explain all the documents and was very patient with my numerous questions. It was an emotionally exhausting case with too many complexities involved, but her strategic thinking, proactive approach and bold advocacy helped me, and my children, achieve a favorable outcome. Ms. Burick did not have to resort to name calling or the blame game; instead, she focused the case on the facts and the law. Ms. Burick is respectful to opposing counsels but can be feisty if needed. In addition, the paralegal staff was also courteous and prompt with their responses - which made the stressful process much more bearable. I am profoundly grateful for Ms. Burick’s exceptional services and results. I highly recommend Julie Burick and Adinolfi, Lieberman, Burick, Roberti, & Molotsky, P.A. to anyone seeking top-notch legal representation in divorce and family law.

We were referred to A&R by our real estate attorney because we needed elder care expertise. It was the best referral and decision we made to engage their services. Reasonable, friendly, thorough and "on point." My father is gone now, but the paperwork A&R put into place really helped expedite things for me as the only child, caretaker and heir.

The Garland Law firm was recommended to us by a friend and we would recommend them to others without hesitation. Gary and his staff were invaluable in taking care of all legal aspects of a Medicaid application and an irrevocable trust for our relative. We could have never been able to handle these matters on our own. They were very professional and responsive.

Do not support this firm. Specifically, do not use Cynthia Matheke. Completely unethical lawyer who fails to pay her expert witness despite hours of work, including a deposition. Refuses to respond to inquiries, dodges certified mail, and is never around when called. Stay far far away! If this is how she treats people on her “team,” imagine how she’ll treat you. Run, don’t walk away.

"I unfortunately had Alexandra Coglianese appointed as our parent coordinator. She exhibited bias and manipulated facts to fit her own narrative. Her dishonesty led to false statements, some of which she corrected when confronted. She even presented inaccurate information to the judge, some of which she later amended in an email sent at 7 PM the night before the hearing. Whether this was deliberate or due to incompetence, she failed to prioritize my daughter’s best interests by presenting misleading narratives to the court and making false statements and unsolicited recommendations. If you’re seeking someone who is fair, honest, and genuinely looks out for the child’s well-being, I recommend avoiding Alexandra Coglianese.”

I have been working with Alex for almost 15 years and she has helped me with two matrimonial cases. From day one, Alex dove deep into the facts of my case, was able to decipher through years of court documents and was absolutely tenacious in advancing and winning my cases. Not only is Alex a highly skilled professional and an excellent attorney, she took a personal interest in me and my children and left no stone unturned. Even when my second case was transferred out of state to North Carolina, Alex recommended an excellent local attorney and stayed involved throughout the whole process. I can’t thank Alex enough for her efforts, results, passion and dedication. I have dealt with many law firms/attorneys, both professionally (in my 35 year career) and personally and Alex is second to none and at the top of my list. I highly recommend Alex! AAA+++

I used Joe for some family law matters. He was not the first attorney I had used but in the end was the best. His knowledge of the case law was beneficial in our proceedings. My father watched him at trial and was extremely impressed in his courtroom presence. He was also extremely fair in his billings. Past experiences with other attorneys left me skeptical of the profession but I had no complaints with Joe’s billings. Highly recommend.

This attorney is a real schemer. He took money from me and ran away like a robber. He didn’t complete my work. Keep calling him and sending emails but no reply at all from last August 2019. See closely the good reviews here are his FNF. Excusing Covid is another real lies. I called the court and the said all the office is open. He still didn’t done my work. After my father's death, we began working with the attorney who wrote his will. However, I could never get a response and had no idea what was going on, so I terminated him and hired Frank. Best. Decision. Ever! Although he was busy, he never made me feel like he was rushing his conversations with us. He answered every question and would add additional information when he felt it may be applicable. He kept me engaged in every step of the process so I always knew what was happening, and explained all options to me when choices needed to be made. He was honest, forthright, and had a stunning work ethic. He always had a plan of action and excelled at strategic thinking in the face of a number of challenges we beneficiaries faced. He was also adept at pivoting and reformulating strategies when we hit any roadblocks. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I felt fully supported and confident in his performance the entire time.

My mother engaged Mr. Williams to help her (and other cousins) to recover some $$ from a deceased cousin’s estate. (The executor of that estate owed several heirs a portion of the cousin’s estate which was never passed to them.) Unfortunately, my mom passed away before completing/signing the agreement with her cousin’s estate executor. I was MY mom’s estate executor; Frank kept me informed as to what was transpiring with the settlement. When the agreement was ready, I was able to sign and the funds were sent to each of the other heirs and to my mother’s estate. Mr. Williams was diligent, erudite, tenacious and (most important) an ally to the heirs. Ultimately, his perseverance and clear communication assured our lawsuit’s success. Plain and simple: HIRE HIM for a good and fair legal outcome.

Colleen McGuigan is the worst lawyer anyone can use. She lies, and when you tell her you are reporting her to the OAE, she falsifies CPS claims and then tries to get your kids taken. She will lose her job.

Called office for consultation. Secretary asked me to write detailed summary of case for his review. Took my time and office did not call back for a week. When discussed case summary with him i was told to consult a tax attorney but my case was "too complicated" for him to handle. The guy shops cases and totally $$$$$$$$ oriented!

I recently hired Mr. Patel to help me through a difficult divorce, specifically but not limited to accessing tax return information from many years in the past. After much frustration and countless failed attempts to acquire the necessary information from the IRS, he stepped in and handled it with ease. His calm demeanor and professionalism gave me great comfort and made this painful process much more bearable. I willingly recommend him to anyone looking for an attorney who specializes in tax related matters.

I was a realtor in a closing that was done this week by Rhonda Benjamin and her staff and I was truly impressed by the time and attention that was given to my clients. Her office was always very responsive, available and kept it together for all of us. Even at the closing table there was a glich with the bank and Rhonda Benjamin's staff handled it beautifully. Thanks again for the great job!!!!!

I bought my first house this year in a short sale and used Rhonda Benjamin and her staff to handle the transaction. It was a difficult and long process, however, her firm did a great job. Her paralegal was wonderful in the time and energy she spent answering all of our questions when Ms. Benjamin wasn't around. They kept us apprised of what to expect at every step in the process. The closing went off smoothly without a hitch. I would highly recommend them.

Being a first time home buyer is tough enough. What was suppose to be a simple real estate purchase became a disaster. Even though she represented me in this case, I never has any contact from her. The phones seem to only go through the secretaries. Once I called in (but I don't think she knew) and secretary was away, the phones rolled to her. When I asked her a question about my case, before inquiring as to who I am, she put me right back through the phone menu. Only when we started to go into panic mode due to the sale falling through, did she actually speak with me. Due to her inactivity, something very dear to me was lost. Losing a property I can deal with (there's more out there), having someone YOU pay for yelling/telling YOU they don't need to do anything is unacceptable. On top of this, she stated verbal communication was good enough for a deal to go through. Since when would a LAWYER take something verbal over something written? It truly baffles me. And to think I chose her because she was listed as having real estate as being her specialty.

We have used Peter for several closing down and he's always been very helpful and communicative. I don't think things would would have gone so smoothly if it weren't for him and his staff. We also had our wills done by him and what could have been a very depressing experience was made as simple and easy a process by Jenna and Peter.

Peter didn't fight for us on our house closing. Didn't look up the sellers information and history to see what the house was being used for. Didn't return our calls or reach out to us when new information arose. When we called him after 2 weeks of not hearing from him he yelled at us to stop bothering him and if we kept calling would have to charge us per the hour. This is our second house, and would NEVER use Peter again. Very hard to communicate with which was frustrating as we needed to close in a set period of time. I would never recommend him or his firm to anyone, even if I hated you. Stay away!

I am very pleased with the excellent work done by Jacob Krief. Through my interaction with him I learned that he is very knowledgeable in many areas of estate planning and tax law. My situation was very complex yet he was patient with me and always took the time to explain the process to me so that I would understand what needed to be done. He was always available to answer my questions. Mr. Krief was completely hands-on, knew the status of every document at any time, and he executed everything in a timely manner. I trust Mr. Krief's advice wholeheartedly and highly recommend his services to everyone. Outstanding!

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
