AN AMAZING WOMEN!!! Mrs. Mcbride isn't even my lawyer. My husband retained her years ago to do his bankruptcy and he loved her so I thought I'd ask for her help. I ended up paying $1200 to a company for what I thought was a legit debt from years ago, but after I paid and shock wore off things didn't add up. Because of the Microsoft thing I wasn't able to get any help to see if I was in fact scammed or not. I called Mrs. McBrides office this morning, told her receptionist my ordeal. She did state how busy Mrs. Mcbride was but that she would pass this along. THIS AMAZING WOMEN CALLED ME IN LESS THAN 30 MINTUTES let me explain and looked into and told me YES CANCEL it was a scam. Told me what to do and say to handle it. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. she DID NOT have to do that for me, especially because I have never met her. I'll tell you what though, she is without a doubt who I will hire if I ever do need her services. People like this are rare nowadays and I could cry how relieved I am for her help. I've been sick all weekend over this. THANK YOU MA'AM Xoxo Ashli Paladie and Jason Keeth.

I met Joshua in December of 2016. My sister had suddenly passed away. She was the sole caretaker for my father who was suffering from dementia and was in a memory care facility. I found myself facing the most severe crisis of my life. I had no authority to make any decisions on my father's behalf or to pay his expenses. I knew I needed to petition the court for guardianship fast! My father passed away in December of 2018. It is now July, 2019. My father's estate just closed. I could write a book on the two and a half years that has passed. Joshua was there for me like a friend from day one. He told me the truth when I needed to hear it the most. He kept me focused on what was important and patiently tolerated my panic attacks and irrational fears. Every step of the way I knew Joshua was there with the best interests of my father in mind. I can sincerely say, if you ever find yourself in a situation like mine, Joshua Pops is the guy you want looking out for you!

I was recommended Mr Pops by my neighbor to consult him about my wife’s dementia and how to best get help for her. In the process, he drafted my estate plan which consisted of a will, durable power of attorney, healthcare directive and disposition of remains. My children have stopped worrying about decisions they did not want to make about my health. I have stopped worrying about my wife’s future, and that my kids will inherit my estate. I have nothing but praise for Mr. Pops and have already recommended him to several people.

200% 5 Stars!!!!!!! Emily Rose and her wonderful staff were the PERFECT law firm for the challenges our family was dealing with during a lengthy and arduous probate. I contacted Limitless Law in desperation after years of trying to close out what had become a very mired situation and I chose Limitless Law based on the many positive reviews, my own research, and the initial phone consultation with Emily Rose that convinced me she had the skill, knowledge, and personality to help me. She was very practical and professional, yet always approachable when I had questions. She walked me through every step of the process, giving me advice to overcome each problem we faced, while including me in all decisions. I never felt unheard, talked down to, or otherwise negated in any way. I never felt she thought my questions stupid or the answers obvious. She included me in deciding the strategies, and helped our family finally reach a successful and harmonious closure. I cannot say enough good things about her! She streamlined every aspect of signing and payments, so it was easy to quickly finish documents and get them filed. Emily and her staff were also always very quick to respond, kind, attentive, which helped us to close out the estate quickly once we started. I will never stop singing the praises of Limitless Law, Inc. I have such gratitude for the help she gave us. If you need a guide to walk your through the probate process, THIS law firm is the one! They do not do litigation, which may be why they can focus on helping their clients so well, but they also will discuss your needs right from the beginning so you can find the help you need for your particular case, and there is no hard sell from them. Just sound and respectful advice. Thank you so much, Emily Rose and staff. You helped us through to the closure that had eluded us for so long. I am so grateful to you for your help. Sincerely, Elizabeth Mandranis.

Admittedly I have no comparison to make as I’ve never been involved with any type of legal issues, but I will say this experience was highly disappointing. After providing a binder full of documentation, photos, X-rays, and more documentation with little next to no contact (unless initiated by me) the waiting game began and continued until today when I received an email informing me they would not handle my case. This was after being told they would, with a full explanation of how things would proceed, the cost breakdown, and an agreement to not have contact in regards to this case with anyone outside of the Puget Law Group. My first contact with Puget Law Group was in August of last year, 2023. All documentation, etc. was done by early December, treatment was completed in October and I was told they needed nothing more from me. That was nearly 9 months ago. Unbelievable at best considering nothing about this situation changed and to be given the most generic excuse is inexcusable.

I was introduced to Megaen through a colleague who had hired her for estate planning purposes and who'd highly recommended her. Because estate planning involves very personal and emotional decisions, I wanted to make sure that my attorney wasn't just competent, but also empathetic and flexible to my and my family's specific needs. On my first call with Megaen, it was clear that I'd found someone who met all of my requirements and more. Throughout the planning process, 3 things distinguished Megaen: 1. Megan clearly understands all the intricacies of estate law, but just as importantly, she explains things in a way that laypeople can understand. This is a huge help, particularly with something as important and nuanced as estate planning. As a husband and a parent, I want to make sure I understand all my options and exactly what I'm signing - Megaen always responded quickly to my requests and questions, and took all the time needed to explain everything in a way that gave me confidence in my decisions. 2. Megaen has what I consider to be a pretty remarkable memory. Throughout the planning process, each time we'd chat, it was as though no time had passed. Megaen remembered all the details of everything we'd discussed in prior meetings, even when I'd already forgotten some of them. Again, this gave me confidence in working with Megaen. 3. Megaen not only exudes great professionalism in all her interactions, but she's also very personable. This distinguishes her from other attorneys I've worked with over the years, and I believe it's one of the most important characteristics to look for in an estate planning attorney. In all my interactions, I felt as though Megaen was approaching the planning process with the same level of empathy and care that I'd get from a family member or close friend. In combination with the points above, this established Megaen as a trusted advisor to me and my family, and I'm very grateful for that. Just as Megaen came highly recommended to me, I highly recommend her to anyone interested in planning for their estate.

I came to Megaen for help handling my late aunt’s estate/probate. Megaen was willing to take on my case when others wouldn’t. I didn’t have the resources to pay up front so others refused to help me. For this reason, messy family issues I was dealing with regarding the estate, and the fact that I lived in southwest Idaho and my aunt’s estate was in Spokane, I was extremely stressed and overwhelmed when I came to Megaen. Megaen helped ease that and guide me through the messiness. In addition to the standard probate process she had to deal with senior abuse, financial abuse, family issues, theft & fraud, major financial mistakes made by a bank and their, etc, etc, etc. She handled all of this smoothly, efficiently, and very professionally. I honestly don’t know what I would have done without her. No words can truly capture how thankful I am for her and all that she did. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. If you need someone that can handle a probate case, and all of the various issues that may come with it, professionally, effectively, smoothly and with compassion, Megaen is the person for you. I VERY highly recommend her to anyone needing help like this!

We retained Megaen Childress to assist us in separating from a family owned LLC without losing what legally belonged to us. The legal system is very complicated for a lay person and Megaen was able to answer a million questions and represent us through mediation and litigation successfully. She was very responsive to us and occasionally called back even on the week-ends when we were in need of immediate advice. Our situation was both contentious and complicated and not once did Megaen lose her cool, even in the face of threats. We were very satisfied with Megaen's representation and would use her services again if there was a need.

Last year I got rear ended on the on ramp to the freeway. No idea what to do. This was my first accident. Loved my car and it was totaled. I org trusted the insurance to handle but when they sent me a check for $1200 and my estimate to fix my car was $6k. I knew I needed help. The insurance company left me without a car for 3 months. A friend got Lee to get in contact with me and by email, text, and calls. We were set to start. Few months later Peter got the case set and done. We are contemplating a move back to Washington state where we lived for many years. Without proper estate planning we would potentially be subject to the Washington estate tax. n our initial contacts with the firm, we clearly identified that we were residents in another state. We were instructed to provide our detailed financial picture as well as our current estate planning documents which we provided promptly and told that our information would be forwarded to the attorneys for evaluation. The following is the email response. “Thank you for filling out and returning your Questionnaire. I will forward your information to our attorneys for review. Once they have completed their review, I will be back in touch with you regarding a quote for services and the next steps for scheduling.” Well over a month went by with no word back from STIB. I finally contacted them by email requesting a status update. Within minutes, I received the following reply. “Thank you very much for contacting our firm. Unfortunately, we are not able to take on your case. Our firm does not advise out-of-state residents on tax issues. Our focus is estate planning and long term care planning.” The STIB website clearly tax issues as part of estate planning. I also found no restrictions on attorneys in Washington state providing consultation to out-of-state residents considering residency in Washington. Needless to say, I was astounded by what I consider to extremely poor communication and timely follow-up. If it is indeed not their policy to advise out-of-state residents on tax issues, I would have expected to have been informed of that policy up front thus saving us the time of compiling and sending detailed and confidential financial and estate planning information. In my opinion, this represents incompetent and totally unprofessional behavior.

A very belated review that I just realized I never left - We had a great experience with Kathleen and her office in the matter of a step-parent adoption. She was thorough in explaining the different types of step-parent adoption that could apply to our case (contested vs uncontested) and with her guidance, we were able to land on an uncontested case. She handled all the communication and paperwork with the additional parent. As this was during COVID, our hearing was held virtually, but it was a quick and easy process the whole way through. No surprises or hidden charges, and both Kathleen and her office staff were incredibly kind. Highly recommend.

We came to her with a complex question that other attorneys had not been able to handle--correcting the age of a child adopted from a foreign country--and she knew exactly what to do. Her deep knowledge and swift handling of our case significantly eased the process. Kathleen was exceptional in answering all our questions, providing clear, accessible explanations that kept us informed and confident. We swiftly resolved this worrisome matter, and we feel very grateful that we found Kathleen. We highly recommend her for any family law matter.

I believe someone working or has worked for this company has/was doing illegal activities. For an example, Shehana Buksh sent a Will and Testament to someone via email without thoroughly verifying if that individual was the correct person. Also, the document looked like it was illegally edited.

Dont be fooled by the Google reviews. I spoke with Rebecca King about my father with huntingtons disease. Long story short - they only take clear cut cases after someone with an illness actually hurts someone. You have to wait until the person you love and are trying to protect actually does something you were trying to prevent. And they charge 450 per hour only after its a clear cut win because your loved one is in legal trouble. Do yourself a favor and find another lawyer that's willing to do the work to present a compelling case before shet hits the fan. If you're looking to update an estate plan, revise or fill out some paperwork, and you have tons of money to spare - Rebecca King will be your huckleberry. If you need a lawyer - look elseware.

A big step I took this year was filing for bankruptcy I was not taught about credit or how important of a impact it would be on my life as a grown adult in society. So i fell into some hardships garnishments affected my pay check fell behind on bills and struggled. Thanks to Mark and our 7-8 month case I will officially be done next week or two and be discharge to start my new line of credit and new finical journey. Along the way I have learned saving budgeting also better money management. Mark N. gave me a great price and manageable payment plan along with making sure I had all documents in order and ready to present my case.He was there with me every step of the way. I highly recommend him to anybody considering any kind of representation he keeps it honest and keeps you on track. Thanks Mark for my new start

Not local in Spokane was the first lie. Then they send a disqualified lawyer to my deposition. Yes you heard that right. Tami law license was suspended and they sent her anyways. Washington State Bar association complaint will be filed soon. Avoid these Mormon ambulance chasers. They do not care about you only the settlement money. Park Gordon law didn't receive a dime from settlement because they know they were wrong! Do not trust these guys

What an Elder Law Lawyer Can Do for You

An elder law lawyer specializes in legal issues that affect older adults, their families, and caregivers. These lawyers handle a broad range of topics, including estate planning, Medicaid and Medicare, long-term care planning, guardianship, elder abuse, and retirement planning. The goal of an elder law lawyer is to protect the rights, finances, and well-being of elderly individuals and to help them plan for future healthcare and financial security.

If you or a loved one is aging and facing challenges related to healthcare, finances, or legal matters, an elder law lawyer can provide essential guidance to protect your rights and interests as you age.

When Should I Hire an Elder Law Lawyer?

Hiring an elder law lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where older adults need help with legal, financial, or healthcare-related decisions. Common reasons to hire an elder law lawyer include:

  • Estate planning: If you want to create or update a will, set up trusts, or ensure that your assets are distributed according to your wishes, an elder law lawyer can help with comprehensive estate planning.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: If you need help qualifying for Medicaid to cover long-term care or need advice on navigating Medicare benefits, a lawyer can guide you through the application process and protect your assets.
  • Long-term care planning: If you’re concerned about paying for nursing home care or assisted living, a lawyer can help you create a financial plan and explore options for government assistance.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If a family member is unable to make decisions due to age-related cognitive issues, an elder law lawyer can assist in setting up legal guardianship or conservatorship to ensure their care.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation: If you or a loved one is experiencing physical, emotional, or financial abuse, an elder law lawyer can help you take legal action to stop the abuse and recover damages.
  • Retirement planning: Elder law lawyers can assist with planning for retirement, including managing pensions, Social Security, and other retirement income.
  • Special needs planning: If you have a disabled family member who requires special care, an elder law lawyer can help create trusts or other legal arrangements to ensure their long-term financial and healthcare needs are met.

What Does an Elder Law Lawyer Do?

An elder law lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help older adults and their families navigate the complexities of aging, healthcare, and estate planning. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Drafting wills and trusts: Creating legal documents that outline how an individual’s assets will be distributed after death, ensuring that their wishes are honored.
  • Medicaid and Medicare planning: Helping clients protect their assets while qualifying for government benefits to cover healthcare and long-term care costs.
  • Establishing guardianships: Assisting families in setting up guardianship or conservatorship for loved ones who are unable to make decisions due to mental or physical incapacity.
  • Protecting against elder abuse: Investigating claims of elder abuse or financial exploitation and representing the victim in legal actions to stop the abuse and seek compensation.
  • Planning for long-term care: Developing strategies to cover the costs of nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care options without exhausting the elder’s financial resources.
  • Managing probate and estate administration: Guiding families through the probate process to ensure that the decedent’s assets are distributed according to the law and their wishes.
  • Setting up advance directives: Helping clients establish healthcare directives and powers of attorney to ensure their medical and financial decisions are carried out if they become incapacitated.

How Are Elder Law Lawyers Paid?

Elder law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the type of legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many elder law lawyers charge by the hour, especially for tasks such as drafting documents, handling legal disputes, or providing ongoing legal advice. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific tasks, such as drafting a will or setting up a trust, some lawyers charge a flat fee. This can range from $500 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the estate plan.
  • Retainer: For long-term legal representation, such as managing a trust or handling guardianship matters, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers future legal work.
  • Contingency fee: In some elder abuse or financial exploitation cases, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis, meaning they only get paid if they recover compensation for the client. This fee is typically a percentage of the settlement or damages awarded.

Be sure to discuss fees with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how you will be billed and what the total cost of services might be.

How Much Does an Elder Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an elder law lawyer varies depending on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estate planning: Drafting basic documents, such as a will or power of attorney, may cost between $500 and $2,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s assets and wishes.
  • Complex estate planning: Setting up more advanced estate plans, such as revocable or irrevocable trusts, Medicaid planning, or special needs trusts, can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: Legal fees for setting up guardianship or conservatorship often range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and whether disputes arise.
  • Medicaid planning: Legal fees for Medicaid planning can range from $1,500 to $10,000, depending on the level of asset protection needed and the complexity of the individual’s financial situation.

Always ask for an estimate of fees during your initial consultation to ensure you understand how much the legal services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Elder Law Lawyer

Before hiring an elder law lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise needed to handle your case. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with elder law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's estate planning, Medicaid applications, or elder abuse claims.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or a retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the best approach for my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your situation and what legal strategies the lawyer recommends.
  4. How long will the process take?
Whether it’s drafting an estate plan or setting up a guardianship, ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to take.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents should I bring to the consultation?
Ask the lawyer what documentation or information you should prepare for your consultation, such as medical records, financial statements, or prior legal documents.

How to Check the Credibility of an Elder Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable elder law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Check their bar status: Verify with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for elder law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in elder law and have experience with cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on elder law issues.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications or affiliations with organizations such as the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), which can indicate the lawyer’s dedication to elder law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with an elder law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Existing estate planning documents: If you have a will, trust, or power of attorney in place, bring copies for the lawyer to review.
  • Financial records: Provide details of your assets, including bank accounts, investments, real estate, and retirement accounts, as well as any debts.
  • Medical information: If the case involves guardianship or Medicaid planning, bring relevant medical records that detail the individual's health condition and care needs.
  • Insurance policies: Bring information about health insurance, long-term care insurance, and any other relevant policies.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about your legal needs, the process, and the lawyer’s fees.
  • List of family members or beneficiaries: Prepare a list of the individuals you want to include in your estate plan or who will be affected by the legal process.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and receive the best legal advice tailored to your needs.
