Mr. Ashmore met with my husband and I for a complimentary consultation. During the meeting he gave us our options along with pricing. He was very knowledgeable about our possible case. We decided not to pursue the case but based on our experience we would recommend him! Overall very friendly and helpful.

For the most part, he was unresponsive and when he did respond he was clueless. He had no grasp on even the most basic elements of my case. The expense invoice was unreasonable and inaccurate. I was billed multiple times for the same item and billed for expenses which had already been paid. He lied to the court, opposing counsel and to me. He was rude and condescending. He and his staff attempted to bully me in signing a false document. He constantly put his interests above mine. The level of incompetence and negligence is unbelievable.

Mr lkenna Emeruem is a very unprofessional being, he never returns his call nor call back neither does he acknowledge his messages. The way he treat his clients especially his follow nigerian are very disrespecting and unprofessional. I paid this man to be my attorney and he never showed up on the day of my case what kind of an attorney is that, like that is not enough when I called him, he began cursing out on the phone and even dropped the call on me. This is so unprofessional.

This woman is supposed to be looking out for the interests of her client, a dear sweet friend of mine, but it seems that, in Tomi's role as a court appointed attorney, she leaves a lot to be desired. Let me explain. Her client is an elderly woman with dementia. Tomi, to my knowledge, has never met her client in person, yet at the woman's temporary guardianship hearing Tomi announced that her client wasn't there because Tomi didn't think the client would understand what was going on. My friend is able to understand such things, and had Tomi taken the time to go see her she would've known that. But it was easier for Tomi not to go see her and easier for Tomi NOT to have the elder appear in court so that is what happened because, you see, the world revolves around Tomi Shehan. If you are looking for a unique blend of bad attitude and selfish laziness then Tomi Shehan is your woman. An attorney that mutters rude comments about the judge at hearings, grumbles about time spent working on court appointed cases, doesn't care to investigate allegations of abuse suffered by her clients, and who, by all counts, seems to be truly unstable isn't my idea of a good attorney. This woman is sub par at best and at worst is a meddling nuisance that has only made things more miserable for her client and her client's loved ones. I have really been shocked by her behavior from the first moment she rushed into court late and started immediately muttering under her breath. It's been downhill ever since. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this woman who is less attorney and more toxic harpie.

I was very fortunate to have been referred to Tomi Shehan. Shehan did her homework and was very prepared as this was an uphill battle for me from the beginning. If you are are in need of legal advice or legal representation, There is no other I have come acrossed that had been informative, personable, and truly had my best intentions at heart. The obstacles faced in this particular matter were odd and Tomi Shehan had been prepared and had the correct resolve and answers to all. My faith in the justice system has been restored because of her!

Glenn was, to me, an excellent attorney. He knows the law well. He takes the needed time to counsel with you to obtain all needed information and gives excellent legal advise. There were many times Glenn was more than an attorney but also a caring friend. Often he said just the right words that I needed to hear to help me gain wisdom, strength and endurance. He not only has an excellent reputation as a skilled, successful, wise attorney but he is also known for his caring, good heart. He will fight hard for justice and the rights of his client.

I've been waiting a long time to decide if I wanted to post this review. I'm not a mean-spirited person and when I have a conflict, professional or otherwise, with someone, I tend to want to just put it behind me. But as I've seen friends and family members in the Dallas area work their way through the pain of a divorce, I've decided that I should probably go ahead and bite the bullet. I was extremely happy with Audrey's responsiveness when I came in to see her for my consultation. She seemed to understand exactly what I was going through with my very abusive husband. I paid her the full amount of her retainer. The first thing she did was make a recommendation that I felt was unethical. I decided not to do it, because I was certain my ex-husband's attorney would see right through it since it is a common, if somewhat underhanded, tactic. I don't know if that refusal was why she decided to stop answering my emails and phone calls, but from that point on, I spent more than a full year trying to get her to do what she said she was going to do. I made appointments with her that she didn't attend. I sent hundreds of emails over two years, and she only responded to about 5% of them. She filed motions that she didn't tell me she was going to file, and that I didn't get a chance to review prior to filing. She ignored attempts from my ex-husband's lawyer to contact her and move things along. When I tried to talk to her about how disappointed I was in her lack of responsiveness, she scolded me for sending her so many communications. Most importantly, I recently learned that she did not file the actual divorce paperwork when she said she did, and my ex-husband ended up filing first. She did not adequately stand up for me in court during the initial hearing, and seemed unwilling to schedule any further hearings. She did not deliver paperwork to me that I had a right to see. Working with Audrey brought me an incredible amount of anxiety and grief. Eventually I fired her and hired another attorney. When my new attorney attempted to contact her to get all of the paperwork, she did not receive a response from Audrey's office. After hiring a new attorney, it took only 5 months to finalize a divorce that had, at that point, taken almost two years to work through. Audrey is clearly a very intelligent and knowledgeable lawyer. She came highly recommended from another lawyer I know who held her in very high esteem. In the rare instances when I felt like Audrey was working for me and attending to me as a client, I felt well taken care of. However, on the whole, my experience with Audrey was such that I cannot help but urge anyone going through a difficult divorce process to choose another attorney.

I have hired this young lady to to obtain visitation rights for my children and to hold my children's mother for denying me visitation in the past.without the courts I have absolutely no way of seeing my children. as I have thoroughly explained that to Audrey.I have shown her 10 police reports stating that she deny me my rights to see my children. including one that said she would rather go to jail then to let me see my children. Audrey was not moved at all to help as she took my money. the children are in a household where there was domestic violence. I've told her that I need everything done legally and by the court as you can see and I have experience being a black man going before the policeto see my children I'm already a victim. the first person they want to arrest is me unless I show them document real fast. she did not take me seriously but it seems that she helped the mother as my case got worse dealing with an inexperienced Attorney such as Audrey.Audrey had an opportunity to help to young lady my daughters my beautiful daughters to obtain a relationship with their father whom they love and I love but audrey has failed. Don't know why she did not carry out the orders but it seems that she worked out an agreement with the other parties Attorney because everything she told me she was going to do she did not do. Not only does she represents her people wrongly her appearance is extremely terrible in and out of the courtand to top it all her secretary Mary has been terrible attitude as well I came to Audrey by recommendation of a friend whom I trusted. Do not hire this attorney is he's a joke and I still don't have a relationship with my daughters. in society they say black men don't want to be a part of their child's life look at Audrey she's part of the reason because we want to be a part of our children's life we just can't get qualified help

terribly rude staff, gives you the run around constantly, the attorney Thomas Sellers will even interrupt and hang up on you when you’re trying to clarify the debt and what you’re needing. I was told to further my “reading comprehension” and that he “doesn’t care” about my questions. He proceeded to tell me how good I had it with the debt, even though we’re still negotiating it. You sure would think they could answer some questions in trade of a 1 lump sum payment. He went on to explain how I could get around the $3000 court fee, yet any other basic question I asked, I was talked over or told that’d be legal advice.

Mr Skibell was very informative and very fair in helping me with my lawsuit. He was able to help me reach a settlement out of court and saved me lots of money. Even though he could have made alot more money taking my case to court he never pressured me in that direction as I didn't want to go that route. He was very honest and very upfront with my options and the outcome he would forsee since he had seen these cases before. I must say he was right on and I so appreciated his insight and honest suggestions. He was excellent at keeping me informed and was always availble if I had a question. I was always treated with dignity and respect and felt like he really was looking out for my best interest. His experience and honesty were so valuable to me and I would highly recommend him.

Someone recommended Jack Hales to me when I needed some deeds transferred. Mr. Hales did eventually get the transfers done, but the deeds he originally sent me to sign and have notarized did not even get grantor's name right -- as though they had been largely cut and pasted from unrelated deeds. In addition, an associated affidavit needed to be updated with recent events, but in doing so Mr. Hales also altered facts which were correct in the original affidavit and which had nothing to do with the needed updates. Once those issues were straightened out, Mr. Hales emailed me that he would let me know when he got the paperwork back from me, but he did not. A week or so after I got FedEx confirmation that he had signed for the paperwork, I checked with him and he said (emailed) that all the deeds had been filed, including one which was filed electronically and thus should have been recorded pretty much immediately. When 10 days passed without any word I called the county clerk's office for the county which took electronic submissions, and they denied having received anything, so I called Mr. Hales -- had to leave a voice message -- about my call to the clerk's office. Mr. Hales did not return my call. A couple of days later when I finally got in touch with him, he insisted everything had been filed and made excuses entirely blaming the various counties. Skipping ahead (this review has gone on long enough) when the deeds finally where recorded I spoke again to the county clerk's office and got some specifics which didn't seem to fit what Mr. Hales had told me. When I confronted Mr. Hales with those specifics he gave me a different explanation than he had originally given me -- maybe true this time, maybe not, I don't know. So, yes, the work got done, but I am disappointed in Mr. Hales.

I don't know why he's doing so bad as an attorney, It's like everything he learned in law school was pointless. He's good at making appointments, but never showing up or emailing you, his employers are rude, there's was one time in particular that a lady answering the phone for the office started to yell at me. He didn't go to the best school either.

First of all, I will acknowledge that some of our trouble was due to the 2020 Pandemic. Mr. Sheetz got our single-decendent will into the probate courts in a timely manner and the court shut-down happened about 30 days later. We waited for a phone hearing and kept checking with Mr. Sheetz, but he said he was still waiting to hear from the courts for a date. I called the Probate court to find out about the current processes and was informed that the lawyers were supposed to call to ask for an appointment. I let Mr. Sheetz's office know about this and got a call later that day from him that we had a court date set for three weeks from that day. I confirmed with him that he would hire the necessary notary public and that we would meet in his Dallas office. At 5:00 pm the day before the hearing, he called to tell us that we needed to hire our own notary. After several attempts, we were able to find a mobile notary that was available. We were also required to print out our own blank documents to take with us to the meeting (at the lawyer's office). The next day, Mr. Sheetz was not at the office to meet us. He was at the Fort Worth office instead of the pre-arranged meetup in the Dallas office. His office was locked (another lawyer was inside on a call and would not let us in) A building manager was able to procure an empty meeting room for us to have our phone call. The court clerk began the 3-way call and we were able to proceed. After the hearing, Mr. Sheetz told us that the court would send the final order to him and we would be able to pick them up. Today, we called to check up on the orders, and were told that we had to order it ourselves. All of this is 7 months following the initial filing for a process that should have taken 30 days per Mr. Sheetz. Meanwhile, the estate home, vehicles and financial property is still in limbo and cannot be settled until we can get the court order.

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
