My experience with Mr St John is he did a great job for me and I'm already out in the world again after accepting a 20 year sentence I did 3yra 9 months on it and I have been to prison 7 times so when hire this man he goes to bat for you and if your guilty he makes sure you get the least amount of time. I am truly blessed to have found this lawyer. If I would have stuck it out with a public defender I'd still be fighting for my life

"I had a consultation on January 18th, hired them after a week of following up for payment details & contract, I was finally able to pay & contract signed-reason "they had mispelt my email". I then asked when it would be drafted- I was informed it would be another week before they started drafting & would be in contact. Did not hear back- 2 weeks later when I asked for an update on the proceedings and if not yet ready to file- please cancel due to urgency of the matter, Suddenly, ALL my files were closed without explanation or correcting several mistakes -This lack of communication and abrupt closure is unacceptable. I do not recommend their services."

Rashelle team was quick to get on our case and get the 2 year-long battle to the finish line. Lindsey communicated with us every step of the way, never allowing us to feel out of touch or lost in the legal jargon that comes with these cases! If you ever find yourself in need of a bulldog attorney who actually hears you and cares, this is the team to call!

At first, Rashelle and her team were very prompt and willing to help me with my easy and simple divorce case. As the case progressed, Rashelle and team would not contact me back for 2+ weeks at a time, did not know how to properly help me, and were not educated on the matter. When finding out how to cash out my leftover retainer, Rashelle and team charged me for simple conversations that they had not charged previously. Such as email responses stating "confirmed."

For someone that is looking for representation I wouldn't recommend John Tijerina. My father used him a lot when I was younger and I decided to give him a chance. For my consultation with him I had several ideas and he brushed them off and the way he reacted it made it seem that he wasn't interested in the case. I had several legal questions to ask after doing some online research not one time did he recommend any of that. Anyways, John is probably interested in making a quick buck on unsuspecting folks. So beware, on the Brightside consultation was free and enough to know he's not worth my money.

Bobbie Edmonds Law firm is unprofessional and is taking money from the public while giving extremely poor representation and most time does not represent you based on the information you give her. She gets in meetings and can’t properly explain the issues at hand because she is very forgetful. She repeats herself constantly during a meetings and gets the information confused. It makes you and your family look unprofessional. She was late to meeting and late with filings that could have helped my daughter case have a better outcome and she doesn’t ask the important questions that needed to be asked because she is trying to speed up the case so it can end. She ignored my calls and questions I had about the case for 2 weeks and I didn’t get a response from her until I did a chargeback to get some of my money back that she is now disputing even after she removed herself from the case. The nerves of her to think she should get full payment when she quit less then halfway through the hearings and I’m still representing and going through the process with my family which is much better. She is not a good attorney she is taking advantage of people that do not understand professional representation. It was a embarrassment to have her represent us and it felt like she was helping the other side in order to have the case end. She wrote and sent information on how we wanted to resolve the case without our acknowledgment and it was nothing we even discussed nor wanted as a resolution. She is not a trustworthy professional. Be advised and her legal Aid is worse and rude. It’s sad to try and find black attorneys to do business with and then turn out to be unprofessional with a hustler mentality.

I hired Elizabeth Rivera as my attorney for a complicated lawsuit, involving more than one party and including a corporation. As most people realize, the wheels of justice run slow. Covid interrupted my cases. However, even after all that, Elizabeth amazed me on many occasions. It was as if she had perfect recall of the details of all aspects of the case and quickly zoomed in on discrepancies by various parties. In court, she was professional, skilled and very prepared. I am happy with the results. In every aspect of the case I could win, I did. In the one aspect of the case that through no fault of Elzabeth I lost, Elizabeth's amazing court skills, used to argue against the outlandish attorney fees that the other side tried to make me pay, won me a favorable ruling. Do I recommend Elizabeth Rivera to others? Absolutely! Will I use her again, if needed? Absolutely! Do I have anything negative to say about her or any of her staff? NO!

I hired Mr.Bailey for my divorce case. My wife and her attorney were being dishonest and not following court orders throughout the case. In my trial they attempted to derail the case in another direction but Mr. Bailey shut both of them down fast and won the case. I referred a friend to Mr. Bailey and he took care of that divorce case in the same manner and won that case too.

Mr. Bailey was late to every hearing over a two year period. He did not keep me informed on my case. He kept conferring with my ex-husband without me present. Informed ex-husbands attorney he "just wanted to get this over with" not knowing I heard him.. .. Quite surprised when he noticed I heard him. He recommended a deposition (over 500.00) and never used it in court, as a matter of fact he could not find it when I asked for it. My case was sabotaged repeatedly by my attorney. I lost 50% custody of my two children to a man they are afraid of thanks to this man, when the only thing I did was get an increase in child support, which ultimately I lost that too and even more of my child support after Mr. Bailey took my case. I did all of the legwork on my case and Mr. Bailey asked me to bring my information to court because I was more organized than him. He never felt like he cared one way or another for my case. His parallegal gave me all the advice I got that was worth anything. The first day in court, he showed up and asked me what we were here for, then said Oh yeah custody. He shared with me that he usualy just "wings it " when he goes to court, which upset me. He later stated that he was joking ,but, it did not seem like he was prepared EVER. We were made to look like fools. In my opinion Mr. Bailey is not an honest man and would not do anyone justice.

After getting off to a great start with someone I thought would be compassionate and highly responsive, it went downhill from there. Court appearances were disasters, hearings held without my knowledge or input, deadlines missed which caused irreparable harm, appointments missed. Zero remorse or any offer to make good on these issues. Would not recommend.

Andrea took excessive and unprofessional amounts of time to answer calls and emails in addition to preparing power of attorneys and LLC beneficiary designations. I was extremely unsatisfied to always leave a message with a receptionist and never receive a call, email or even a draft of documents. We were consistently told our file was “in review.” Thankfully Andrea refunded our retainer and we were able to hire an attorney who had the power of attorneys and other standard estate documents completed in 48 hours. We have no idea why it took Andrea over 6 weeks to provide us with form documents and ignored calls and emails. We do not recommend her or her firm.

Andrea does not professionally communicate by phone or email once taking deposits. She extends deadlines for paperwork, does not deliver documents when she commits to deliver them and cannot be bothered to address why she is running late. Her office is unorganized, frequently changes phone numbers, moves locations, closes during posted open hours and does not keep accurate client phone numbers and even left voicemails on wrong numbers. I highly recommend using an attorney who is more organized and experienced.

What Mr. Morrison did was take stress out of my life created by a bad situation. He properly defended my Bankruptcy when needed to prevent dismissal by my original trustee. He gave sound advice and told me not to worry. He corrected bad legal advice that one of my creditors attorneys gave to my creditor. His demeanor was always professional and direct. I found Mr. Morrison to be very responsive.

I was a client of Morrison, He took our money for our case and advised us that he would hold our money and if we changed our mind and decied not to file that he would return our money. Well we decided not to file and he refused to refund our money. He is right it was a Chapter 13 and not a chapter 11. But he refused to refund our money, so either way he is wrong. Since I am wrong I am sure I can expect as check in the mail in the next few days.

I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to this completely useless attorney. This guy will only make whatever problems you have worse. He will not return calls or emails and he’ll most likely no-show for any consultations you book after you pay him. Earlier in this process I had to file a grievance with the state bar to get him to do what I paid him to do. Now I’m back in the same spot with him and still not done with my divorce. I would have been thrilled to leave a good review here because I actually think he’s a knowledgeable attorney but it’s not worth the problems you’ll have just trying to get him to do his job. Lots of money paid to him for what should have been an easy case. Check out other review sites and BBB too. I will work as long as necessary to make sure he is disbarred.

Does not answer his phone , does not reply to emails or text messages , has you scheduling on his calendar and does not call you . It took a full year to get in front of judge and FINALLY I got a order BUT wait Donald was suppose to prepare it then review it with the other party and get it back to the judge ( the hearing was in July) it’s October and I still don’t have a copy This man was over paid Has countless numbers of family emergency’s Unprepared Has no clue what is going with these cases he keeps stealing money from people for I just want what I paid for and for the state bar to hold him accountable for playing with the lives of my children and myself Donald has no accountability , no compassion as he claims He is skating by as an attorney and should be disbarred

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
