I was being represented in court by Donna Mayor she had done nothing for me in court. She was rude and not willing to listen to a word on my case. She didn't even look at my paperwork or evidence in my favor. It wasn't that I didn't want to pay I just didn't agree with all the fees and being charged 3x my rent amount. I had recieved rental assistance for which my landlord only applied 2 months. He applied the rest to unreasonable charges which was thousands of dollars. I even wanted to represent myself but she discouraged me with her actions and bullying. A man named Chris who works there was trying to find information in regards to my funds from the city and what they were for. she started throwing paper at him and belittling him. Now I have no one to help me. Donna just wanted me to settle so she can go on about her day doing nothing or just as okay with me being evicted. She seemed more representing of my landlord then me. When i explained the behavior to her supervisor it was said she was a good attorney. Talking about accountability. Please if your are desperate don't go to this agency they will make sure your family becomes homeless and humilate you while in the process too. I cannot believe the government funds this agency to ruin lives and collect money.

My daughter hired this attorney and she did absolutely nothing after taking her money. Pretty much agreed with the opposing lawyer and let her decide the outcome. Do not use this attorney. She is lazy and will just take your money.

Mary does not listen well and is slow to respond. After you have asked the same question several times, she responds once but charges you for reading all your previous requests with the same question. She sends emails with incorrect information even though she was well informed previously and then charges you to correct her errors. Once my case was settled, but orders of the court were not followed, she will not assist you in pursuing compliance of those orders. Once she has her money, she is done with you. FIND ANOTHER ATTORNEY!

Finding an attorney that is willing to connect personally with your situation at hand in my experience is hard to find. Thankful that I found Mary Papcke! She is the most caring, professional, honest and hard working attorney I have met (and I've met plenty). She showed concern and faught with all she could to settle my case. After years of issues with insurance attorneys and doctors she came out on top for me. Never once did she want to give up or say there were no options for me! Her legal fees are well deserved and are not above the effort and hard work she puts out. Also the compassion and heartfelt caring she expressed was grately appreciated and unforgettable! Mary Papcke is very good at what she does with a heart for people and fairness! I absolutely recommend her for any legal needs! She will fight with everything she can and go beyond her limits to get you what is deserved!! She is a wonderful lady and so thankful she was there for me in my time of and need and I will always use her in future legal indevers! I do believe she is one of the best out there! I think everyone should check her out before settling with any other attorney because she is good at what she does and won't give up until the fairness of her client is established through the legal system! She truly is a Life saver and that ray of Hope needed in times dealing with legal issues!!!

In March of 2000, Guardianship for my daughter was granted. Atty. VanTine was my attorney. It became a very complicated legal process and it was one of the most stressful times in my life. It is now 20 years later and thinking I need some legal advice and help. So hoping her office is same address I decided to Google her name, and here l see the review page. After reading the reviews that were so negative, I have to add my experience. Linda is the most conscientious, reliable and dedicated attorney you will ever find. I hope anyone in need of an attorney will not be swayed by some of the derogatory comments. Linda will work with you, for you and will always go the extra mile to help you. Besides being highly regarded in the community, she is a truly a nice person.

I called upon Ms. Van Tine when my brother passed away as she had handled his will and guardianship for my disabled nephew. I found her to be knowledgeable, helpful, professional, and very prompt when returning phone calls and gathering knowledge for me. I live out of state so I do not have her as my personal attorney. However, I will retain her in all matters whenever possible.

I called to inquire on a small estate probate question. My unmarried daughter had past & had a lost title  to her car which was titled in Ohio I live in Indiana.  He kindly told me I'd need to file a form with probate court, the proceeded to ask my address and  the told me he would be sending me a bill for $57 for a 7 minute call . Mind you he never told me I'd have to pay for a phone call. When I told him, "he didn't state that he would have to charge me before we started our conversation he became rude and replied,  "shouldn't I be paid for my time". We were on the phone 7 minutes I'm sorry my but when you are dealing with the death of a child you dont think to ask, "oh am I going to be charged for this phone call". His response he made $285. an hour  which is $57 for a 5 minute call.  I didnt know if I'd need an attorney or not called looking for direction in what I needed to do. I am flabbergasted & insulted by his response and arrogance that I should have known that I was going to be charged for talking to him.

Please allow me to give you a real world expectation of what you're in for, at least if you're the man in a divorce. You will be ignored by Steve and your retainer will be drained. He will ignore you and any attempt to contact him or his secretary is a billed charge. He will wait until the last min and tell you he was ignored by opposing counsel and then tell you to settle for what they're offering and make you out to be the bad guy for standing your ground. I paid a 5k retainer for a divorce, and in large part, because of an improper act on his part, had a contempt motion filed against me. When I contacted him and his office, they ignored me until right before court and then said they don't represent me. Then, they said I need to pay another $2500 to take my case. He filed 2 motions, 1 was dismissed as "moot", and the 2nd was already answered because of something I filed. He proceeded to ignore me for 3 months, with 0 progress, but happened to eat up 2k of my retainer. DONT waste your time!!!! I got more done by myself. He uses cookie cutter templates that are easy to find online, as a man, protect yourself, no one in Steubenville cares about you, even the male attorneys.

If she is appointed to your case as a Guardian Ad Litem, I’d recommend your attorney request another one. She was nearly impossible to get in contact with (emails nor phone calls), and she literally waited until the night before her report was due to write it. She saw me interact with my child that I had not seen for a year for only a short period of time (not enough for a decision of this magnitude), and left out or didn’t go into depth about important factors of the case in her report, such as evidence I had shown her. When I met her, she spoke of her job as a realtor and how she was dealing with a client rather than discussing my case. If you research her you’ll see that she has other interests and it is my opinion that she uses this as quick side money. She gets paid $2,000 upfront and does a few hours of work at most while just quoting whatever you say to her in her reports to fill the pages to make it look like she did her job.

If I could give less than one star, I would. As an "impartial" guardian ad litem, she outright LIED in her report to the court. Lied. I'll stand by that. She is not impartial, and I find it no coincidence that she tends to favor fathers as does the magistrate who appointed her. Be wary around her.

Firing Jim Adray was a very liberating feeling. Constantly talks down to you like a child. Sends emails to the wrong email, then charges you for all the phonecalls of questions I had, because I had no clue what was going on. Recommends I dont speak to his secretary because she's "too sensitive." $5500 later, I have gotten almost nowhere. He's a pathetic excuse for a lawyer, and I wouldn't even recommend him to my ex wife

Sean, is a rockstar. I went into court expecting the usual pro functionary representation you get from a court appointed lawyer. I was so wrong and majorly impressed with the outstanding job Sean, did for me and my family. Even though the odds were stacked heavily against me Sean, stayed positive and focused. He totally exceeded my expectations, going as far as to represent my mom and cousin, at no charge, filing motions on their behalf to strengthen my case. I really appreciated his honesty, warrior attitude, and spirit. Whenever I have a question he always takes the time to make sure I understand what's going on and never rushes me off the phone. If I could I would have Sean on retainer to handle any legal problem I might have, he's that good!!! I recommend him to anyone in need of a great attorney. Thank you again for everything. I'm seeking an attorney to form a trust. I was referred to Mr. Sharp by another attorney, and I had an initial interview with him on Wednesday 10/26/2022. After him asking questions regarding my estate, he SUDDENLY decided not to take me on as a client. Perhaps he's intimidated by strong women.. His excuse that he does not think I need a trust. I was prepared to spend the money to begin to proceed with the formation of my trust. He ended the interview and reffered me to someone else. So if he wasn't prepared to do it, why did he even confirm my appointment? Perhaps he is too old and feeble to take me on. I am an aggressive INVESTOR, and I need an attorney who can ACTUALLY BE OF SERVICE. To protect my assets from going through probate. I would give this guy zero stars if I could.

I almost got deported because of Wayne Staton's misadvice. Use Wayne Staton only if you intend on making a plea bargain. If you actually want to win a case, find another lawyer. He works for the Oxford Police Department, not his client. This is one lawyer who definitely does not have their clients best interests at heart. That combined with a lack of expertise and professionalism makes him by far the worst lawyer in Hamilton County. That being said, should you choose to admit your guilt, then he would be the best lawyer to go to.

What an Estate Planning Lawyer Can Do for You

An estate planning lawyer helps individuals plan for the management and distribution of their assets after death or during incapacitation. Their services involve drafting important legal documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives. Estate planning attorneys work to ensure that your assets are transferred according to your wishes, minimize tax liabilities, and avoid probate court. They also help clients plan for potential long-term care needs and protect their estate from being diminished by healthcare costs.

By working with an estate planning lawyer, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones will be cared for and that your estate will be managed efficiently and according to your desires.

When Should I Hire an Estate Planning Lawyer?

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is beneficial in many situations, especially when you want to ensure that your assets are handled properly after death. Common reasons to hire an estate planning lawyer include:

  • Drafting a will: If you want to clearly define how your assets will be distributed after death, an attorney can draft a legally sound will.
  • Creating a trust: For those looking to avoid probate or provide for loved ones over time, setting up a trust can help manage the distribution of assets.
  • Planning for incapacity: An estate lawyer can help draft powers of attorney and healthcare directives so that your financial and medical decisions are made by someone you trust if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimizing estate taxes: If your estate is large, a lawyer can help create strategies to reduce or eliminate federal and state estate taxes.
  • Special circumstances: If you have minor children, blended families, or complex assets like businesses, an estate planning lawyer can create tailored solutions.
  • Guardianship or conservatorship: If you want to designate guardians for minor children or ensure proper care for incapacitated adults, an attorney can help.

Hiring an estate planning lawyer is especially important if your estate is complex or if you want to ensure that your wishes are properly followed.

What Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Do?

An estate planning lawyer provides a range of services designed to help you organize your affairs and ensure your estate is managed according to your wishes. They can:

  • Draft wills and trusts: Creating legally binding documents that dictate how your assets will be distributed and managed.
  • Create powers of attorney and healthcare directives: Appointing someone to make financial or medical decisions for you if you become incapacitated.
  • Minimize taxes: Developing strategies to reduce estate taxes, gift taxes, and other financial liabilities for your heirs.
  • Help avoid probate: Structuring your estate plan to avoid probate, which can save time and money for your beneficiaries.
  • Advise on long-term care planning: Helping you plan for potential healthcare needs in the future, including Medicaid planning and protecting assets from being depleted by nursing home costs.
  • Assist with beneficiary designations: Ensuring that life insurance policies, retirement accounts, and other financial instruments are correctly designated.
  • Handle probate and estate administration: If a loved one has passed away, an estate planning lawyer can help guide you through the probate process or act as an executor.

How Are Estate Planning Lawyers Paid?

Estate planning lawyers typically charge for their services in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of your estate and the type of services you need. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many estate planning services, such as drafting a will or trust, are charged on a flat-fee basis. The fee covers all work related to preparing the document.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex planning, such as estate tax strategy or trust administration, lawyers may charge by the hour. Rates vary based on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Retainer: Some lawyers require a retainer for more complex cases, such as ongoing trust management or estate administration. The retainer is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Estate Planning Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an estate planning lawyer depends on the complexity of your estate and the services you require. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Simple wills or powers of attorney: A straightforward will or power of attorney may cost between $300 and $1,500, depending on your location and the lawyer’s experience.
  • Trust creation: Establishing a trust, such as a living trust or revocable trust, can cost between $1,000 and $3,000 or more, depending on the complexity of your assets and estate planning needs.
  • Comprehensive estate planning packages: Some lawyers offer packages that include wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives, which may range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more, depending on the estate’s complexity.
  • Hourly rates: For ongoing services like estate administration or tax planning, lawyers may charge hourly rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience.

Always get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure the services fit within your budget.

Top Questions to Ask an Estate Planning Lawyer

Before hiring an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to ask questions to ensure they are the right fit for your needs. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with estate planning?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience drafting wills, creating trusts, and handling other estate planning services.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or by the hour and ask for a detailed estimate of costs.
  3. What strategies do you recommend for my estate?
A good lawyer should be able to explain the best strategies for minimizing taxes, avoiding probate, and ensuring your assets are distributed according to your wishes.
  4. How often should I update my estate plan?
Ask how frequently you should revisit your estate plan, especially if your financial situation or family dynamics change.
  5. Do you offer ongoing support or updates?
Some lawyers provide periodic reviews or updates to ensure your estate plan stays current with changes in your circumstances or the law.
  6. How will you help my beneficiaries if something happens to me?
Ensure the lawyer is willing to guide your heirs through the estate administration process or help manage your trust after you’re gone.

How to Check the Credibility of an Estate Planning Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible estate planning lawyer, follow these steps:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for estate planning certifications: Some lawyers are certified as estate planning specialists, which indicates they have extensive knowledge in this area of law.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews on sites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from previous clients who can speak to their expertise and client service.
  • Check for membership in professional organizations: Lawyers who are members of organizations like the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) or the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) often have a strong reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with an estate planning lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of assets and liabilities: Provide a detailed inventory of your assets, including real estate, bank accounts, retirement funds, investments, and personal property, as well as any debts you may have.
  • List of beneficiaries: Be ready to discuss who you want to receive your assets and in what proportions. This includes naming guardians for minor children if applicable.
  • Existing estate documents: Bring copies of any existing wills, trusts, powers of attorney, or other relevant estate planning documents.
  • Questions about your estate goals: Write down your goals, such as avoiding probate, reducing taxes, or setting up charitable donations, so your lawyer can tailor a plan to meet your needs.
  • Information on medical and financial decision-makers: Be prepared to discuss who you want to appoint for healthcare and financial decisions if you become incapacitated.

By being well-prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and begin building a comprehensive estate plan that meets your needs and protects your loved ones.
