This guy defines the word "dirty". He will take you very last dollar, getting nothing accomplished. He should not be practicing law. We hired him to assist with probate issues and he had no idea what the laws were. Took our words and twisted them to make our issues sound worse, he blew our case by claiming to have knowledge where he clearly didn't. This guy is the bottom of the barrel of attorneys, stay far away or plan on filing bankruptcy when you done dealing with him.

Great lawyer, truly understands his clients needs. Was able to resolve issues quick and painlessly and followed up to ensure financial obligations by ex were taken seriously, after the initial establishment. When payments became delinquent he ensured my ex was jailed and put on work release to make up support. I would definetly use again!!

He forgot about my case and unless I gave him a call nothing got done. He filed a extension on my case when I hired him it was 90% done he just needed to take me to court and after repeded extensions we got there a year later.

I have used Rita going on 20 years now. I refer many of my clients from my business to her, as well as she has handled several real estate transactions, 2 estate matters and she has completed wills for me and my wife and other family members. I have never had any bad feedback from clients I have referred to her. I feel she has been very fair in what I have been charged, in each legal matter she has handled for us. I all ways tell anyone who uses any attorney that it will cost more than you think it will, and if you write your question or keywords to jog your memory, and stay on task you will reduce the time you are billed for. As I learned a long time ago, lawyers are not cheap and if you waste their time in their eyes, they will bill you for that time. I will say again Rita has all ways been fair in her billing. I have learned that dealing with attorneys in the legal arena, is that the outcome is never like you see on TV, and the expectation by the average person is too high. The results I have seen with Rita have all ways been better than I expected. Rita has gone the extra mile literally, by meeting one of my clients I referred to Rita at the clients home, as she was dying, could not leave and needed a will done immediately. Rita has also met me at the clients home to finalize a real estate transaction on a Sunday. What attorney does that???

Good afternoon all, I highly discourage anyone from retaining services from Rita or any of her affiliates. It's a kangaroo court set up for each of the local lawyers to line one another(s) pocket(s). I donated $3,000 and received little to no counsel. Her staff isn't punctual, inefficient, and unprofessional. Please stay as far away from this firm as possible at any and all cost. In addition to that, I'm still waiting on a returned phone call from approximately two weeks ago that has yet to be returned. Once again, stay away from this place. Kindest regards, A customer who was taken to the cleaners

I hired Ms. Daninger to help me get guardianship of my partner of 7 years, Mike, after his brain injury. I was already Mike's POA and MPOA. His father, who wanted to pull the plug on Mike, was opposing me for guardianship. Not only did Rita not stick up for me or for Mike, she let the father's attorney walk all over me both in and out of court. I had to raise my hand to talk to the judge while Rita sat there silent in court, and I had to hire a second attorney to help me. This was all while I had to get an order of protection against the father to protect me and Mike from him which I made Rita well aware of. Mikey and I are both here and doing well, no thanks to Ms. Daninger.

When all was said and done I felt as though I had been scammed, ripped off. Used Luke to uphold parenting agreement. Did not inform me that we would likely not be able to get any attorneys fees paid for by ex. Did not inform me that he would not even be willing to ask to get partial reimbursement from Ex for having to go to court. Charged $2500 for two meetings a few emails and 30 min in court. He did not stand up for me as I felt he should. Did not get the judge to see my side, did not discuss other options. He was little to no help in court.

Luke Brown, has done a masterful job of representation in my divorce case. I would highly recommend him and his team to anyone who needs a thorough and attentive lawyer. The biggest mistake i have made in my life was to hire this attorney to take care of my divorce a few years a go , and to deal with my parenting time and child support . Mr. Luke Brown was never prepared for my court hearing, did not have any clue of what he was doing and gave me the wrong information and advice to follow during my divorce . The only reason I kept him during the whole divorce and child custody battle was because I had already paid him to defend me , I had not time not the mental power to fight my ex and his good attorney. Luke Brown always seemed to be afraid to speak to the judge , and did not even wrote my divorce decree in stead my ex- husbands attorney did and I ended up getting screwed and I am still paying for the consequences of that big mistake of hiring this attorney to represent me. Attorneys like Luke Brown really make other good and honest attorneys look bad.

It was clear almost immediately that money was her primary focus. I do not feel she acted as my advocate at an incredibly vulnerable time in my life. She seemed to mediate during mediation rather than advocate for my best interests. I was confused and vulnerable and found her compassion to be lacking. I was not adequately prepared by her for the very important mediation, and was required to correct many gross errors myself on mediation documents at the last minute under rushed circumstances. Bonnie did not request a much-needed appraisal that cost me a lot of money. The language in the final agreement was not clearly defined and resulted in additional arbitration or attorney effort and fees to clarify the provisions. I was ultimately required to hire another lawyer at much expense to try to fix some of the problems created. Essentially I felt "thrown under the bus" by this attorney.

I consulted with Bonnie about a child support case when I had lost my job and was trying to get an adjustment. She suggested I not pay until the court date that had been set for the adjustment. Following that advice cost me tens of thousands of dollars mostly due to a thrashing of my credit report, but also due to fees and interest the DES began charging. Do not trust Bonnie with anything related to child support. She also brought up the fact that she wanted to be paid before I left the office more than three times throughout the one hour consultation. Once would have sufficed. If that's the sort of experience you want, definitely call Bonnie.

When you first enter into divorce proceedings the whole process can be intimidating and trust me YOU DO NOT KNOW THE LAWS (even if you think that you do)! We all think about money. I can tell you don't shop for a lawyer based on the cheapest as it will cost you more in the long run if you are not represented well. Bonnie is not the cheapest, but she is the BEST! I had been married over 30 years and my children are all adults. Bonnie worked with me for almost a year (yes mine was MESSY!) and in the end we were able to get a binding agreement with my Ex. You may say "So what?" It kept me from a judge deciding my fate which could have been much worse because they look at your last 5 years of annual income (they were very good years). In divorce there are NO winners, however I can say that I wasn't a loser either and I am enjoying my life now! After you get through your divorce Bonnie will tell you one more thing..."Do not get married again without a PRENUPTIAL AGREEMENT"! Words of wisdom! I HIGHLY recommend Bonnie Booden!

This attorney was hired by my wife after we had an investigation by CPS. This Attorney Brad Tenbrook was assigned to her case. After 9 months of incurring legal fees this attorney made no communication with my wife regarding the investigation by CPS even though she inquired several times about the status and placed a 20,000 dollar with the firm. It wasn't till my case with Scottsdale Court was resolved that they finally disclosed the CPS case was closed after 10 months of representation. This attorney was very condescending to her and extremely Rude. I would not recommend hiring this firm under no circumstances. They charged us over 10,000 for nothing. Made her worry for almost a year about CPS possibly making a big deal about this situation.

I was ignored when I asked for motions to be filed. Brad was not well informed on my case before walking in the court room. Unless you are forking over 20 grand or more you will not see any work that can be done cheaper by someone more experienced. I asked why a motion for contempt was not filed when my child went missing for 6 months AFTER I hired brad. His response was that it was not necessary. The ultimate issue. During trial because he did not file the motions I asked for I was denied custody of my child. I filed a bar complaint against him for not doing what I paid him for and he responded with a bill for having to explain himself to the bar. Disgusting right? If you are a victim of domestic violence, have dependency issues look elsewhere. They just want money.

Brad is an excellent attorney and handled my CPS case. He was knowledgeable, aggressive and creative In working a plan to quickly get through the convoluted CPS/juvenile court system. Not only did he quickly advocate for us, he had the utmost patience and compassion during the emotional roller coaster. He truly cares and is passionate about what he does. His staff is courteous, responsive and prompt. He has such a respected stance by all parties in the courtroom. I would highly recommend hiring Brad if CPS ever comes and knocks on your door. It was the best decision and he saved our family and most importantly, our children.

Hired Marc by default only to be insulted and and treated very rudely. After going to work he continued to increase his fees and insults he worked harder in finding ways to charge me more then he would on my case. He would only return my calls when he felt like it. I would give him the information he requested only for him to confuse and mix-up the information then complain about having to do the work. finally imputing your information given to him incorrectly and charging me almost double what I was originally quoted. yet he complained about everything. Then after charging me double and making the entire event more difficult he quit halfway through and charged me a highly inflated amount. I still had to hire another attorney to finish the case and do damage control. Do yourself a favor and hire a competent attorney one that doesn’t blame you for all of his mistakes.

Do not hire David Polan to represent you if you want an aggressive attorney that will advocate for you! I no longer trusted David when I had to do the leg work in my case. I had to tell him what I wanted said and argued in court instead of him doing his job. His communication is horrible and the only way to get a timely response is to call the office. While he may be knowledgeable in family law none of his actions proved to me that he cared what was happening in my case and that I just had to deal with it. I was not informed of happenings in my case to the degree I would expect from an attorney. I would expect detailed information and would only receive general information. Bottom line is that he did not care to put time or energy into representing my interest.

As a statutory agent at the ACC for both organizations, on a multi-member LLC with no EIN #. Using the rejected filings on the ACC filed fraudulently by disgraced Board members, he created a Assignment of the Lease to gain control of a Historical World War II Landmark and instructed the parties to damage what property the Wings of Flight didn't want and take what they did want. Also, he collaborated with the Falcon Field Airport Director to deny the tenant access to their property and this allowed the disgraced board members to destroy evidence of their embezzlement, forgery, and theft.

Working with Ms. Overmyer is challenging to say the least. She and her legal assistant are indignant towards their clients, as well as everyone else. USE EXTREME CAUTION Was provided Ms. Deskins' by the firm I was with as my previous counsel was let go. I had a very sensitive and delicate case involving my children. Mrs. Deskins' behavior before a judge showed that she was not prepared and incompetent to handle a case of this magnitude as the other party is highly narcissistic. My case was delayed numerous times as I was told of a game plan that to me would have been ideal if the case was different. My situation changed to life or death and I was brushed off. I would not recommend Mrs. Deskins to anyone who has a volatile custody battle as this attorney's game plan is to have you throw money and was time. Use caution and do your research.

He was quick to respond to my questions, calls and emails. He always explained issues in terms that I could understand. I was so impressed with his abilities for the appeal that I hired him for the remainder of the post-divorce details, which were extensive. At times, I was emotional and scared. He has talked me off the ledge on several occasions, in a compassionate manner. I hired Annalisa for a complicated Divorce and Child Custody case. She was not easy to talk with. Over the course of the case I paid her thousands of dollars, yet I did most of the work for my case. The one thing her office did right was file paperwork so I guess 1 star instead of 0 because they are paper pushers. Annalisa was much too friendly with the opposing counsel on my case and gave in too easily when things got tough. He kept me informed when there was information to know and things to do. He was attentive and resolved the estate promptly once we had waited the entire time period. I could not be more relieved. In response to the previous review, sometimes he didn't call me back because frankly there was nothing he could say or do, somethings take time. Laura was basically a very expensive paper pusher. She was late to meetings and court. I traveled 1300 miles to go to court and for the Judge to say he only had 1 1/2 a half to attempt the mediation. I told Laura that I was feeling rushed and uncomfortable. She agreed but basically shrugged her shoulders and did nothing. She barely spent 2 hours with me on that trip. During my time with the judge Laura was unprepared. Communication was sporadic. She never fought for me. She would talk a big strategy to me in conversation but she didn't execute. I wanted someone to protect and fight for me. That didn't happen. I ended up letting her go and using my husbands attorney. Unfortunately this was after spending close to 10k. My mom hired him and regrets it. He over charges, charges for his typo mistakes, and seems totally incompetent and has no clue what he’s doing. Please don’t go to him!!! Go anywhere else!!!

I retained him and met on a couple of occasions, he has failed to keep me informed as to the status of my pending divorce and custody dispute! Doesn't return phone calls, or emails. I wish I could get a refund to retain a true professional to handle my case...

I worked with Mike about eight months ago and had a very positive experience. He was attentive, trustworthy, and extremely knowledgeable. He returned phone calls and emails promptly and always offered excellent advice and counsel. He kept me in the loop at all times and handled my (rather difficult) case with care and confidence. In addition, he is extremely intelligent, kind, and his rates are more than reasonable. I highly recommend him, and would certainly hire him again.

This attorney has done several jobs for me. He handled my divorce and child custody agreement in a very professional and thoughtful manner. He was very prompt when returning all my phone calls and request for information on my case. I also found him to be very knowledgeable. He was kind and caring as well. He has also drawn up my will and updated it. I think that his fees are reasonable and fair for the services that he provides. I will use his services again if needed.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
