Absolute sc*m of the Earth attorney. He is a ticking time bomb with complete disregard of people, the court, and the law. I can confidently say that a majority of judges and attorneys located in Fort Worth and Denton, Texas absolutely despise him. Don’t believe me? Go and ask them. He will do just about anything just under breaking the law and thinks that him and his clients can get away with it. He has had his license suspended twice and a sexual assault charge against him. Sure sounds like a “man” with great morals to me! If you feel like walking on eggshells and facing pure verbal, and emotional abuse for months on end then go ahead and hire this s**t show.

I hired Bryan for a divorce case. I needed specific requests to protect my children among other things. From the first meeting he agreed with my terms of divorce and assured me no way would a judge rule in favor of my husband. For months I submitted evidence, police calls, records, bank statements in favor of my requests. Bryan was more than difficult to communicate with, yelling, screaming, cussing. He would constantly yell and interrupt me when explaining the circumstances of my marriage. He yells at his staff as well. I communicated mainly with his wife and secretary. On the day of final decree hearing, he goes over the terms of the final decree and to my horror I find out he has removed the conditions of protecting my family and recovering any money my husband had stolen from me. I had also requested that he ask for my husband to pay for my attorney fees, as he had drawn out our divorce over years, and taken thousands of dollars from me and sent to his country behind my back, which Bryan had agreed too also. He took THAT out of the final decree also. The last meeting we had was a hearing where it was ruled that my husband could not remove our children from the country. At the final decree however, Bryan removed my requests for age limited removal from the country, as child abduction was my concern, and he never discussed this with me and did not fight for me or my children at all in my divorce. My husband got everything he asked for. I was horrified. All that money and time fighting for the safety of my children and to have some restitution from what my husband had taken from me during our marriage, and Bryan dropped it all. I got nothing from my divorce, my children can be taken out of the country and I cant stop them from going AND I am responsible for any outstanding attorney fees. Bryan took my money and did nothing for me. I should have changed lawyers, but he was recommended by a family friend. Hiring him was the biggest mistake of my life and cost me the safety of my children. I will regret it for the rest of my life. Buyer beware.

I have personally hired Bryan Buchanan several times throughout my life. So has several of my friends and family members. He has always treated us with utmost respect and worked very hard on all of our cases. And has won all of our cases. Wouldn’t hire another attorney without going to Bryan first.

I took the recommendation from a friend to use Roger to probate my brother's estate. I really wish I would have read some reviews before doing it as I was somewhat in a rush to get the process going. After spending significant money and wasting a year, absolutely nothing was accomplished on my brother's estate except for hiring more help to verify that is kids are his kids. What's even more frustrating is I asked Roger to simply dismiss the case as I had no desire to continue the effort after wasting a year and my money, but more importantly just having this tension in the family. I did express considerable frustration to Roger about this. Instead of following through on a client request and upholding professional standards, Roger instead decided to file a motion to remove himself from the case so he no longer had to deal with it. So not only did he not really accomplish anything tangible after a year and collecting all the fees from me, he decided to back out of it instead of simply filing a motion to dismiss and wrap up the case. As a result, I now have to deal directly with the court to get this resolved and possibly hire another lawyer to get this case dismissed. I have been in professional services all my life and have never seen such a move by another professional. I would highly, highly recommend you do your research before looking to engage Roger - don't take a recommendation from someone. Feel confident he really is going to work for you as that was not my experience and I regret engaging him.

I hired Mr. Yale to handle my daughter's child custody case after our initial lawyer totally messed it up. We could not be happier. Roger is a fighter and he knows the law and is an excellent communicator. I only wish we had hired him from the start.

I hired Greg Boling to represent me in a criminal assault case that was more fairy tale than fact. After hearing my view of events, he developed a strategy and we moved forward. I have never had to deal with any kind of court or charges much less criminal ones so this was all new to me. He kept me apprised of events at all times. His paralegal, Kimberly, was my point person. She took all my calls when I had questions, and set times to discuss specifics with Greg, which he was always available for. After 6 months of plea offers that were excessive in my mind, my case was dismissed after completion of an 8 hour internet course. Greg and his staff are the real deal. They work hard for your best possible outcome. I highly endorse and recommend this law firm to represent you. Thank you so very much for your efforts. Could not have received a better Christmas gift!!!

Terrible lawyer. Claims to have the best interest for minors but is EASILY fooled. No research conducted to verify facts or statements given by the other parties. It was later confirmed that all statements that were provided to her were fraudulent and written by other parent. Also did not follow up with drug accusations or verify their accuracy. Essential her “interest for a minor” was to put them right back into the hands that neglected them. Thanks Amanda!

This attorney failed to represent my best interests at every juncture. Apathetic, lackluster, lack of communication via email or phone. She double billed for conflicting paperwork, NEVER provided legal counsel as to pro's/con's of course of action, and in no way represented/advocated for the best interest of the client, Rather I did all my own work AND paid her over $15,000. The final lack of ethics and integrity on a long list of them: She decided to deduct my CURRENT FEE'S, INVOICE UNSEEN BY ME, due date not yet passed (and I've ALWAYS paid on time, right away), from the net proceeds of the sale of my house. The MSA stated she would receive proceeds, ensure the 5 agreed upon joint bills were paid, then evenly divide the funds between my near ex and I. Instead, she took it upon herself to go ahead and deduct the next invoice due and then mail me the difference, which was not agreed to within the MSA.

Ms. Coffey handled a very stressful problem and helped my second grader get out of a terrible school situation and into a school that the district claimed was too full for transfers. I'd rather pay full price for an attorney than have Donna Bloom's services pro-bono. My last consultation with her was comprised of Donna Bloom ranting and yelling at me, simply because I was disappointed about not having any of my phone calls returned after two weeks of trying. I was screamed at, told to shut up, and was called insulting names by her.

Wonderful lawyer. Donna Bloom had taken my case on a pro bono basis and treated me better than when i was paying my previous lawyer. I will never forget how she was there for me during the worst time of my life. I sincerely thank her and her team

I can't thank Eric enough! He was awesome during this whole process. His honesty, integrity and sage advice were instrumental in my difficult circumstance. He was straight up from the very beginning and I couldn't have been happier. Eric's paralegal Stormi was also outstanding. She understood the challenges and really helped me understand the process. Stormi was comforting and kind. She was on top of every detail and was great at responding immediately. Eric came highly recommended by my buddy (Barry F.). This was the best decision I made! Please consider Eric and his awesome staff!!

I would highly recommend Eric and his team for anyone who needs a divorce attorney. Eric handled my case professionally, quickly (as fast as courts allow), and I always knew the next steps. He was upfront about managing my expectations. He will ask you to complete a co-parenting class that I found to be extremely helpful; I wish my ex would have been required to take it. He had a game plan going into mediation that was 100% successful. His team responded to my queries immediately. I will continue to use the Navarrette Family Law for any future custody needs.

BEWARE OF THIS FALSE ATTORNEY SHARON WILSON, I hired her to represent me with a child custody battle back in 2020. At first she was doing her job and keeping me informed about my case, until Sharon fell off the face of the earth mid April 2021. I must have emailed her 10 times, texted her 10 times, and called her 10 times. Sharon Wilson doesn’t even have an office, she has an office address but no office they are a front for people who can’t afford an office. Sharon didn’t even give me a contract to sign or anything. Becareful of this so CALLED ATTORNEY. Sharon Wilson is a person that makes you think you have someone good on your side until she has you in her grasps and just falls off the earth and never gets in contact with you again, when you need her most. I was under a lot of stress and anxiety during the periods of time when I could not reach her or receive a call back from her. I finally put in complaint with CAAP for help and they advised me to do a few things. I did them and still Sharon Wilson never reached out to answer me. So then finally I was advised to file a grievance with the TEXAS BAR ASSOCIATION, which I did. They finally got her to respond to me via email and she was really rude to me because I filed a grievance and she had to respond. So after Sharon Wilson released my file to me I went to another attorney for help and told him what a nightmare it was working with Sharon Wilson. His reply was “ you are not the first client that I have had to help because of her ”. He was sorry for all the stress Sharon Wilson put me through. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, BEWARE OF SHARON WILSON ATTORNEY FOR FAMILY LAW. Before you hire this Sharon Wilson for family law look at the Texas Bar association for the complaint against her!

She failed to file a critical file in my case. Looked lost in court. Very unresponsive to getting back to me. I mean I went looking for her and her office is in a car garage where I was told is I'm not the only one looking for her. At a very inportant meeting she changed to fit her time, then texted me 20 min before and said just go in with out me and never heard from her long enough to go looking for her. I needed a lawyer but went in alone and let her go right before court because she had not a clue on my case. If you got her right now you are probably seeing these reviews and thinking yep im going threw the same thing. I feel dumb for letting her get me. Thought she was God sent. Guess devil sends them 2! Horrible!!!!!!

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
