Rhonda handled a sensitive probate matter for me with such care. She really went above and beyond to make sure my loved one’s wishes were followed. I have friends who have used her for their divorces too and they are so happy with the work she’s done. I highly recommend Rhonda. She really is the best attorney in the area.

Years ago I hired Rhonda Magnussen for my divorce and possible move out of state. She not only didn’t prepare for my court case… She called my ex Mr. Marty, by his first name, completely unprepared. This impacted my life’s path, and ability to move out of state with my now husband. I do not recommend her for multiple reasons. She did not prepare or even do research on my case. She overcharged everywhere she could down to a 15 minute phone conversation.

Originally I had hired Dennis to consult me on an unpaid employment check, of my late husband. Soon after Dennis was working with me on the sale of my home, which rolled right over into probate matter. He worked several months without pay just with the confidence that he would get me what I had to do. Patiently educating me along the way. Simultaneously, I needed legal representation in the matter of child custody. He passionately and aggressively got me through several legal matters over the past year of my life. He and Shirley have a guided me through and stood by my side during the most difficult situations during the most difficult time of my life! He has been professional and proficient and I would highly recommend him, to anyone who needs legal representation in a multitude of situations. He’s smart as a whip, he’s listens to everything, and helped me weigh through what is best for me. He’s been honest, and really straight forward. He’s answered his phone, to consult with me when his been sick and even when he took a short vacation! This is the kind of attorney you want working for you.

I first contacted Mr. Felix to get advise on my upcoming divorce. My ex was unreliable and did not follow through with obtaining a mediator. I then decided to hire Mr. Felix to handle my divorce. Dennis, is very knowledgeable in family law matters. Dennis worked with me as we tried to bring a resolution to the table that was fair to both parties. When things made an ugly turn and accusations were made about me that were not true. Dennis and Shirley worked very hard to prove the information that was presented was inaccurate. The team at Felix Law worked extremely hard to help me get joint custody of my child. There were a lot of circumstances involved in these proceedings and Dennis always had the best interests of my child in mind. We were dealt a few setbacks along the way but Dennis stayed on his course and was always confident that the outcome would be what we were looking for. Dennis was always honest with me throughout this whole process and I would recommend him to anybody needing legal assistance with family law matters.

He seemed nice enough at first, but he ended up being somewhat rude and made several comments that were just plain unprofessional. I saw him for my divorce and was considering bankruptcy. He used up the $2500 retainer on ONE response to my ex-wife's summons. I gave him all the financial information he asked for and watched him spend 2 hours trying to get it into his own spreadsheet and do some formatting. Why should I have to pay for his lack of computer experience? Very disappointed. I'm still going through this process but I'm pretty certain I'll be changing lawyers.

FYI Don’t waste your Money or your time with this attorney. Gave him $1000.00 in May , gave hopes and made you feel like he knew what he was talking about! Then absolutely nothing was accomplished, and it’s November and still have not received a statement from him as to what he did for the money… Said he was going to do this and do that but never happened. Look elsewhere if you want truth and want to get any sort of help.

Linda Wray is phenomenal, and even that is an understatement. Her professionalism, incredible knowledge, and responsiveness while still being understanding and a compassionate advocate through what are some of the most difficult and challenging times are what makes her the incredible lawyer you want. Linda looks at the big picture. She's completely buttoned up and goes to bat 1000% in challenging the other party. But she does it in the right way, on the things that matter, so that the process doesn't devolve. Her true goal is to avoid courtroom litigation for her client due to the emotional and monetary costs involved. But she is a rock star in front of the judge when there is no other recourse. Be ready for Linda to appropriately challenge you as her client, too -- and you want that, trust me. Divorces can and will get emotional, especially difficult ones. Emotions can cloud a party's best judgement on how to proceed, what to do and how to act, and Linda will appropriately counsel her client on the bigger picture and with an eye on what is in the best interest of you as her client and your ROI in order to keep the process from getting mired in senseless difficulties. This can be difficult to hear at times due to emotions, but is the right approach and truly in your best interest. You can be certain Linda will be your lawyer, your advocate, she'll listen, she'll challenge, she'll hit hard when hitting hard is needed, and she'll get you the best outcome that you deserve through certainly one of the most difficult times you will ever face. I cannot recommend Linda more highly.

Comes across as strong, confident and is convincing, but she wanted to move through the critical parts of the case ASAP and didn't seem to put much thought into what was in my best interest. In hind-sight I know I could have fared much better at the end of the divorce and ultimately my kids and I have a lower standard of living because of her lack of caring. I expected much better service for the price.

Brian Glodosky stepped in well beyond the eleventh hour and quickly got up to speed with my case. He immediately staved off a motion for temporary relief and successfully issued a request to change judges. Brian and his team effectively refuted slanderous accusations by my ex and he skillfully guided us to a mediated settlement, preserving our family's finances and preventing a drawn out court case which would have involved psychological evaluations and courtroom testimony for our children. I posed many questions to Brian, and pushed back numerous times in areas that concerned me. Brian consistently, concisely, and respectfully addressed my concerns. I really hope I never have to go through another divorce, but if I did, I would feel confident having Brian by my side once again.

I find Mr. Brown to be a very untrustworthy individual to work with. Initially, he comes across as very helpful and friendly, but over time you realize he’s doing what’s best for his firm. Often he makes up concerns, demands, issues, etc., to get what his client wants. The second worst part is Mr. Brown has repeatedly requested that the Judge have me pay for all of his attorney fees related to the made-up concerns, demands, or issues. To my surprise, the Judge's thankfully denied each of Mr. Brown's requests for reimbursement for erroneous fees. That should say a lot about his character. Each of the Judges we worked with over the past eight years saw through the dishonesty and denied each of Mr. Brown's requests for erroneous fee reimbursement. My concern is in the past 8 years of working with Jason Brown, I continue to see him only look out for his client's best interest, and not the children involved. Please email me at

Jason Brown struggles with being honest. Jason follows money is the money. He doesn’t follow his fiduciary responsibility as a Minnesota attorney. . Instead, he is consumed by greed from case after case. Instead of doing what’s right, he will follow his clients instructions regardless, if they’ve been convicted of child abuse. I noticed if you look at Jason Brown’s Google, Avvo and Lawyers.com reviews, he has MANY one star reviews and in many of those he responds with similar zero accountability response. Thing is all of these cases are public record. Don’t take my word. So many one star reviews.. Instead, I encourage you to read his responses, pull up his cases, and you can read how instead of taking accountability, JasonBrown just denes it al. If you take the time, you can read and verify that is one star reviews have validity to them. Jason Brown is not a good MN lawyer, and I sadly have also seen fist hand the lengths Jason Brown will go to protect his now convicted child abusing client. Jason helped her get away with it for six years. It took CPS getting involved many times and then she was finally convicted.

Jason Brown Probably the worst divorce attorney [if you can even call him that] that ever existed. I started out at his firm with a wonderful female lawyer which was what i preferred. i did not want a male lawyer. also tried to save money by going with a Champlin firm vs a Minneapolis firm. so not the case!!!!! charged the same or more than Minneapolis lawyers. Apparently I was too emotional [which is entirely normal for a woman who is being dumped by her husband of 21 years] and she turned my case over to Jason Brown who did not even care about my case. All our calls were on speaker so i was made sure that i would not get emotional. he put me on hold to respond to another call which was to my husband's attorney.. when i asked him how the call went he said they were laughing together - not what you want to hear from your lawyer. Anyway, needless to say with this guy, he was not, so not there for me during the whole process. I literally felt like i was representing myself. Kinda wished I had my husband's attorney!! Message to women going through a devastating divorce. DO NOT GO TO JASON BROWN FOR LEGAL ADVISE!!!!! A HUGE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!!!!! After the divorce was finalized [no help from him] I had to go to his office so he could read my entire decree to me. What, like I wasn't able to read it myself? And of course charged me for the time. Meanwhile construction workers were running around updating his Law Office at what looked like to be at a great expense.. Anyway - looser! Waste of money. Not a care to what you are going thru. Hugh waste.. Terrible attorney, if you can call him that.. Ladies, there are so many great lawyers out there.. Pay the extra, it is so worth it.. Good luck!!!

At first my husband and I were inspired by her confidence but after a few months we realized she was grasping at straws in representing our Family court case. Joan would often need to be prompted and reminded on key details. Getting in touch with her wasn’t easy and at times several days to return our calls. We had to let her go and ultimately having to start from scratch again was a difficult expense but truly the best decision for us in the end.

I had the exact same experience as Wade except I'm the mother who got ran over by a bus. Marso was bias and I lost everything because of her opinion and falsifying information. Wouldn't be surprised if other attorneys recommend her specifically in favor of their clients and Virginia or as the other party would call her "Ginny", gets a kickback (that's what appeared to be happening to my case). This woman needs to be debarred. I never seen such manipulation, Virginia had her mind made up prior to even meeting me. Aggressively raised her voice at me at McDonald's in St. Cloud with my children in the play center. I never stopped fighting either!

I now have 50/50 joint physical & legal custody. She got us set up with the My Family Wizard app so my daughters mother is not able to harass us anymore either. Carol is a strong willed and persistent woman. Words cant describe my thanks for Carol. This was a very messy case, my ex was coming up with every false accusation you can imagine, she attempted restraining orders and you name it she did it or said it. My family is blessed becasue of Carol. My daughter is happy and I now have her more time then I ever did. I highly recommend Carol if you are seeking a lawyer

Now I know why this law firm has a 2.9 review. people, believe the reviews! Pro: Sarah, the Paralegal, was such a nice person, great conversation and timely response. Now lets get to Mr. Nate or Nathan Con: 1. he autocorrected my name to "peru"... okay, I can see that happening. 2. I painstakingly filled the form, got to the phone call and this is how it went He was talking about will, trust, power of attorney etc. (keep in mind he already knows my family's worth), and like educated people that we are, we had questions (plus, he was speaking fast too, so I had to halt him to repeat some things). Please ask me why after the 2nd question this "fragile ego entity" decided to tell me I was arguing with him and if I wanted to argue he can't be our lawyer. I was stunned (like where did this come from). And my husband was like :we are just asking questions because we are not the expert and wanted to understand. And he literally said (and I kid you not) I'm not used to people asking me questions right out of the gate ( "sigh in my ancestor's language). Anyway, I just told him, "if you already feel this way just after two questions, how would we be able to ask you questions in the future if we don't understand something. I don't think you are the best fit then". Needless to say, he was like "metlife will find you another lawyer". Dude, I spent hours going through lawyers, no one did the work. Anyway, whatever is wrong with this Nate, he needs to go get some "communication 101" course on his learning path.

If you are a father and have a high conflict ex who does everything in her power to limit or stop your parenting time, do not use this woman as a parental consultant. She will follow the mothers visitation agreement to a T, but will change yours to fit what the mother wants. She charges attorney fees. Fathers, just take your ex back to court and get more parenting time Ordered. Get a lawyer and don’t waste your money on this lady.

I am a local immigration attorney who needed some legal counsel from this firm. They came highly recommended by another well known attorney. Unfortunately, this firm is a HUGE disappointment to all consumers alike. I hope someone at big business reads this review. There is no onboarding process for this firm. None. You are at the mercy even as a colleague of poorly trained staff and assistants to get someone to pay attention to your case. The communication with this firm has been awful. Emails unanswered. Phone calls ignored. The firm waisted about 2.5 months of my client's case only to send a snarky response that they decline to represent, which is not what we were looking for (we needed a second opinion on case value). The employee (law clerk) who was assigned to our case left midway our project. No one got back to us on that. In sum, take your business elsewhere as I would say this firm has a chronic internal management problem that will continue into representation. If my prospective clients in my firm were treated this way, I would be fired on the spot and rightfully so. If my staff treated anyone the way we were treated, they would be fired on the spot as well for cause. Take note!

Truly wish there was something POSITIVE TO SAY but there is not. The law is intended to treat all Americans as equal. This firm does not do that. If you are a female, stay away. You will be gaslight and minimized. Treated as less than. But they are more than happy to take your money. It’s so sad that they are doing. Fortunately for me I have Travis on my side who has years of practice in the justice system, and has the experience and not just family law, business law, and criminal defense law with a appellate court practice. Literally at One stop shop. He takes the time to explain best possible outcomes, as well as the realities of least possible outcomes. In addition to this his retainer and hourly rate are very reasonable. Always taking "vacations" with your money. Stalls, does a lot of "busy work" and slick talking to make sure it looks like he's doing something. Commits perjury overall good lawyer if you are a deadbeat trying to make it look like you are not. So really 3 stars. but 1 star for honest parents.

Hello I'm a single father and the twin cities. My son's mother has made it very difficult for me to be in my son's life. I speak from experience. Travis is a true gladiator! When representing his clients he spares no expense when fighting for you to be in your child's life. It is an honor to recommend him at the highest levels of expectation. I strongly recommend his services and legal support to anyone in my network in need of the best representation in the legal market. Thank you for reading!

Terrible, look elsewhere. She will extend out the process as long as she can and charge alot of money along the way. She is not trustworthy, do not believe in what she says, nearly all of it turns out to be lies in the end

Sue Wilson duped me, simply put. She convinced me she was very caring, apparently only so that I'd hire her. She finalized my divorce refusing to correct errors she'd made in the decree, and handed away all of my rights while ignoring what I told her I needed. Do not hire her if you're a woman.

Erin was very attentive and knowledgeable during my divorce process. She was supportive and kind as well which is important during a divorce. She took time to calmly explain things that were happening during the entire process when things were confusing and stressful. She was willing to listen and was responsive to emails, messages and phone calls. She was a much needed voice of reason during a very difficult time for myself and my family. I would highly recommend her services. Her office and support staff are also friendly and professional.

After years of working with Erin on grand parenting rights ,she did get them for me. However after tens of thousands of dollars in attorney and court fees ,Erin would not file my stayed order of con-tempt on the other party that would"nt follow the court order.Erin sent me a letter of withdrawal of counsel notice. My on going battle with other party still a nightmare, broke without counsel. :

If I had to pick just a couple words for Erin I'd choose intelligent, strategic, and honest. She was incredibly thoughtful about picking strategies that worked in my case--she knew when and how hard to push, when to wait and not "take the bait," and when to change approaches. I had an ex who was abusive and continued those tactics through the legal system, to the extent possible, and she kept me calm through what was a really dark time, I am lucky she was my guide and advocate through it. And we won! I'd recommend her to anyone in a child custody/child support case.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
