We've had a great experience working with Fisher Stone, P.C. We are a small business that experienced rapid growth over the last couple of years and they were a huge help in getting our finances sorted as well as providing guidance for a more sustainable business model moving forward. They've provided a very well rounded service with practical approaches and a great deal of patience for some of us who are not as well versed in accounting and finances! -Julia Moreno (Co-founder of Shop Cat LLC)

I had a harrowing divorce battle and am fortunate to have had Amanda Shaffer as my attorney. I was served with a surprise hearing in Integrated Domestic Violence Court (IDVF) - with not even a hearing date - and I scrambled to find counsel. After a frantic search and a dozen interviews with different attorneys, I chose Amanda because of her understanding of the situation and high conflict personalities. Amanda’s approach is like a fox. She is methodical, knowing when to stay quiet - and when to strike. (For me, staying quiet was one of the hardest things because I wanted to immediately prove my innocence and refute every false allegation against me. She told me this would take time, which it did.) In addition to being kind, clever, ethical, wise and emotionally intelligent, Amanda is also tough. She would not allow us to be bullied by the opposing counsel and their dirty tactics. Finding the right attorney is crucial in navigating the frightening wilderness of Family and/or IDVF Court. With Amanda’s help, I am grateful to say I came out on the other side.

Updated review. I cannot stress to anybody reading this enough: who you hire matters and you get what you pay for. Attorney’s have case after case slide across their desk. It’s a job at the end of the day to most. If Aaron Shapiro or the force that is Amanda Schaffer takes your case, TRUST THEM. Full disclosure: I am a nightmare client. On a scale from 1-10, I’m an 11 in terms of annoying. My son is my absolute world. I have been a “white pony” more times than you can imagine. Over-billed. None of it made sense. Those attorneys cared about a paycheck. Aaron and Amanda are not only EXCELLENT attorneys, they’re good people. They have a backbone. Their time is valuable. They’re not cheap. Know that. When your child, freedom, or immigration status is on the line — don’t put it in the hands of someone who treats you like a file. The legal progress is exhausting (mentally and financially — I know it all too well.) It’s unfair. Read that again. No attorney should ever promise you a victory. Here’s what this random stranger who’s been put through the wringer for 3 years can promise you first hand — this firm cares and they’re your best shot.

After a year or so of no improvement, I changed My bank info so they’d stop charging My account for literally not doing nothing!

I’m so disgusted with this person. I was referred to her peer who stated, “she’s a pit bull (or bulldog) in the court room”! I thought, “Man, that’s EXACTLY what I need!” She’s a pitbull alright... with you. She’s so condescending and showed little professionalism, care, or empathy. She failed to appear in two consecutive court visits, and what ultimately led to me parting ways with her was her not showing up to a Family Court appearance with not even a phone call to prepare me. But she had enough time to send a replacement who was incompetent regarding the details of my case. She misquoted my words often, showing that she really wasn’t paying attention to what I was saying. She never once entertained meeting in person. She never worked with me to understand a plan or strategy. She was clearly uninspired and uninterested. I met with her once in 3 months- the day I retained her. That’s it! The next time I met with her was the day I let her go for misrepresenting me. Fortunately, I was able to “negotiate” a 1/5th return on what I already paid her. She got no results and had the nerve to request another $4,500 in addition to the $5,000 retainer to continue representing me. She was representing me in Family Court and told me to hand her the rights to Criminal Court defense as well. I agreed to do so. In her time representing me, she claims to have gotten me results because I have visitation with my daughter on my days off from work. When that was simply a message she relayed. She hasn’t actually gotten a result in my favor. On the criminal side, she failed to act in a timely and professional manner to acquire video footage of the moment of the alleged assault that was hindering my custody case even more. That video would have easily proved my innocence. Now I have to pay thousands more to find a criminal lawyer and family lawyer. I’m so upset.

Hook and bait. Overpriced. Charges for everything single second, even for bathroom breaks. The lawyer is old as stone and slow. He coughs dust. Forgets things and should have retired 6 years ago. I was living a nightmare for almost four years. I sold my home and the buyers' attorney fell for a scam e-mail, wiring my mortgage payoff to a fraudulent account at my servicing bank. All of the funds were completely withdrawn from the fraudulent account in a few days. I had no idea that any of this happened until the bank deducted a mortgage payment from my account weeks later. After my real estate attorney discovered what happened, the bank was notified of the fraud and told me not to worry, and that they would freeze the account until the situation was rectified. The buyers' attorney refused to take any responsibility, claimed to be a victim, and never notified the buyers that their home was subject to a lien from an unsettled mortgage. The local police and the FBI were notified and investigated and found that the scammers succeeded in getting the funds overseas. Everyone involved in the transaction denied responsibility and then the bank denied saying that they would freeze the account and referred me to collections, destroying my credit and putting my security clearance and livelihood at risk. I hired Tim and PLG to represent me in this matter, and when the bank refused to even discuss what had happed, he filed a civil suit on my behalf. Tim and PLG were relentless in fighting for me and helping me navigate through dealing with my employer as my clearance was in jeopardy. Were it not for Tim, I would have lost my clearance and my job. Unfortunately, there is little recourse for victims of this type of fraud and it is impossible to fight major banks, insurance companies, and attorneys without having the best on your side. I was lucky to have Tim and PLG on my side and I received a favorable outcome. Tim is passionate about what he does, seeking justice for his clients, fighting for "the little guy"! I hope no one ever has to go through what I did, but if you do, you need Parlatore Law Group in your corner!

I hope no one ever has to go through what I did, but if you do, you need Parlatore Law Group in your corner!

Jeremy and his staff assisted me with a very complex and challenging international divorce and child custody case. His depth of knowledge on the nuances of child custody laws in various countries was invaluable in helping me decide what to do (and not do) over the course of a three year battle that ultimately resulted in me being reunited with my child. He is thoughtful, direct, authoritative, well-connected, deeply experienced, and confidence-inspiring -- exactly who you want to have in your corner when dealing with a complicated and stressful situation. If you are in the unfortunate position of needing the services of someone specialized in matters relating to international child custody, you will not find a stronger ally than Jeremy Morley.

November 13, 2024 marks one year since I was blindsided in court. Failure to diagnose is serious and the ramifications more. Told I had no choice but to attend I knew that was not true. Mandel created that story on his own because the judge never requested my presence and was extremely disrespectful. The defense was rude, insulting and sat there pointing little pieces of paper claiming I had to sign more authoizations they never expired. My injuries more serious and what she claimed a lie. She and the judge seemed in sync and that’s when I dropped the case. I received no defense in court. This past year has been horrible and I’m now in more powerful meds to alleviate the pain in my jaw. It’s sad that no one truly cares. Berger has no warmth it’s all about money and more. One year is not a long time but it’s been rough and I lost a lot of weight since I can no longer eat solid foods.what happened to me can happen to anyone!

GREAT EXPERIENCE! From start to finish! Very professional! Definitely helped me take a deep breath over my personal situation and it was handled with finesse and ease by Attorney Alex Zhik! Mr. Spodek reached out to me personally to discuss the matter and then turned it over to Alex and it was amazing!!! Alex was very professional, and knew exactly what to do to get my case dismissed!!! I didn’t really have to do anything except provide the details and show up yo court. He was communicative, respectful and well dressed too — which mattersi! The entire system of communication for the firm is top-notch so there were no glitches and I am really glad that I decided to get an attorney because there is no way I could’ve navigated this myself. I definitely recommend this firm and feel grateful.

Do not be fooled like I was by these positive reviews. This attorney took on my very sensitive child custody case which involved domestic violence and multiple arrests of the other party (father) and by not paying attention to detail almost caused a very negative outcome. Here is a breakdown of events that occurred: On May 15th 2020 during Covid quarantine ACS reported to the judge and the other party’s attorney that the father (other party) will not be showing up for a drug screening as he is away in quarantine for next month at a minimum. May 20th there was a Skype call with the judge. As I learned later my request for Soberlink wasn’t communicated which led to a misunderstanding with the other parties attorney later who claimed I was unreasonable and changing my mind on previously approved supervised visits when in fact I was open to “unsupervised” so long as soberlink is present (which I offered to pay for) since previously approved supervised visits at Safe Horizon couldn’t happen due to quarantine. After the call on 5/20 I noticed many argumentative emails from the other attorney and asked Mrs. Richardson to pause communicating with the other party for a few days and I notified her I will be looking for a new representation shortly. My next 3 days were booked with zoom interviews for a new position and I simply did not have time available to attend to this matter. At that moment Mrs Richardson was unprofessional and distracted when we spoke and even had a few emotional outbursts and yelled at me when I caught her forgetting important facts (use of soberlink which was actually mentioned and included on my bill breakdown). I simply asked her to pause communication with the other party and to give me a few days to respond with how to proceed. Within the next few days, as I thought Mrs. Richardson followed my orders to pause... she took advantage of the fact that I was pre-occupied with numerous interviews and proceeded communicating with the other party and continued to bill for hours which were not approved by me and were not a part of the original 7,500 retainer. She also waited 2 months to send me an additional bill for $2,900 for 7 hours of case work after my request to pause communication. When I asked for an explanation her defense was that she still had to continue acting as my attorney and was claiming that I was “refusing” to release her from the case (she was referring to my reasonable request to pause communication for a few days). More importantly we did not have any urgency nor a scheduled appearance since the children’s father was away for at least a month. Unfortunately her unprofessionalism and unscrupulousness was surpassed only by her lack of compassion, greed and blatant incompetence. Not only did she claim she spent 7 hours on my case during the next few days, she never communicated to the other party that my goal was for children to spend time with their father unsupervised as long as soberlink was present which I was willing to pay. The next shock came on May 26th, 2020 the other attorney drafted an order to show cause since “her party was eager for visitation” (this is the same party who refused a drug test to ACS on May 15th claiming he was away in quarantine for a minimum of a month). This order was extremely negative towards me and had claims that I didn’t feel safe with children seeing their father because of Covid which has never even came up, claimed I was changing my mind between soberlink and supervised visits which was far from the truth and other similar claims which were caused by lack of communication between Mrs. Richardson and myself or Mrs Richardson and the other party. To end this situation quickly I had to agree to supervised visits with his elderly mother in her home which she claimed has asbestos and release Mrs. Richardson Stay away from this attorney and find someone who’s honest and knows how to communicate with clients without yelling and scolding

I chose Morghan to represent me for several reasons: she came highly recommended, she was very responsive, and I felt that she instantly understood my needs. In my uncontested same-sex divorce, Morghan had a straightforward strategy and ensured that I was in agreement before any decisions were made. Her support staff were always in communication and helped me understand each moving piece. In Ms. Richardson, I had a diplomat to resolve thorny issues with seeming ease, but I also had a relentless advocate who proved to be uncompromising at just the right times. Finally, I always felt trusted by Morghan and I always trusted her. In my personal divorce experience, trust was what I needed to feel most. In the conclusion of my case, Morghan and her team delivered the best result I could have hoped for. I would recommend her unreservedly.

What started out as a non-contested divorce process unexpectedly became a contested one. My spouse decided she wanted her own representation to be sure she was being treated fairly. After reviewing the facts and speaking to the other attorney, Morghan Richardson took a risk and agreed to continue to represent me on a clearly defined, fixed-fee basis that was very reasonable. In the end, our case was quickly and amicably resolved to everyone's satisfaction, and I received excellent value for the services rendered. Throughout the process, Ms. Richardson was very clear on what information she needed from me, kept me posted on the status of the case, let me know what I could expect to happen next, and when. If you are in New York City and are in need of family-related legal services, I would definitely recommend Morghan Richardson.

This review is not about Mehreen shah but its her associate Rebecca Singh whos working at the Mehreen shah. She was the one who recently worked on my case and my case was approved and I got my approval letter at last after 7 years. It doesn't matter how many cases some one worked on and how much experience they have. The most important thing which matters is how much some one is serious about your case. When I needed assistance she always call back when she gets the time. She was always in contact with me through email when I needed assistance. If some one goes to the office of Mehreen shah then they should give their case to Rebecca Singh for all the good things she has done for me. She the best period.

You have committed no crime yet you are sentenced to many many years of uncertainty and effectively the inability to travel beyond the borders of the US. The progressive uncertainty initiates with you then as your family expands it includes you, your spouse and your children. Common everyday words like "right staffing, down sizing" have an uglier dimension and much much deeper meaning to you. The travel limitation effectively prevents you from "being there" when your family needs you. Yes indeed, you received the invitation card to your brother's wedding or the call about your uncle's accident but the leash that immigration has around you keeps you bound to your imposed limits. Sounds familiar? Well, welcome to a immigration case that got "randomized" or "stuck" for some reason or the other. During a time like this one needs a dynamic, competent and sharp attorney who has all the following traits: (Need one or two more here?) UNDERSTANDS YOUR NEEDS GIVES YOU HOPE & GUIDANCE IS PROFESSIONAL IS AVAILABLE - & willing to make the time. IS WILLING TO RESEARCH YOUR CASE ENSURES THAT YOUR COMPLETED FORMS/DOCUMENTS ARE TRIPLE CROSS-CHECKED, PACKAGED PROPERLY & SUBMITTED IN A TIMELY FASHION. Ms. Shah has consistently done all the above Her expertise stretches far beyond immigration law to include federal & family matters. With a cultural heritage stretching across 3 continents and a professional presence on both sides of the Atlantic Ms. Shah is the obvious choice when you need someone who thoroughly understands your needs, does her homework, and one who will gently stand by you over the years yet possesses a tenacious ferociousness when fighting on your behalf much like the lioness watching over her cubs. Too much? Well ...that is how I feel, so sue me ...I have Mona watching over me...

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
