Let me begin with I was totally lost & without guidance from my prior attorney for over two years. For months on end I could never reach nor get an answer as to what was going to happen to me, and/or my case & future. Thank You GOD, for Deborah Sharinn, I truly feel having Deborah Sharinn, represent me was “divine intervention” without a doubt. Deborah has been knowledgeable, informative, accessible, compassionate, & willing to go the distance regardless of the consistent roadblocks thrown @ her in my case. Deborah’s ethical demeanor goes above & beyond in what is needed to accomplish the sometimes unbearable case to get an ultimately fair resolution for all parties involved. It is a “breath of fresh air”, to have Deborah Sharinn, such an incredibly talented attorney to represent my case in the fashion she has only within months, & already remarkable results. If you need excellent representation & a stress free environment until you’re case comes to pass, I highly & extremely recommend Deborah Sharinn, Esq. There are not enough words to Thank You Deborah, I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Brian has represented our small company to some of the biggest companies in the world. He's gotten us everything we want. When asked, he is capable of making a business decision, which is really nice. We are lucky he is part of the team. His manner (in a world of condescending lawyers) is refreshing, frank, and he never makes you feel dumb. If I were to describe what he does for me and the company it's simply "he brings out the best in us." Very pleased.

I was refused counsel despite repeated requests for my lawyer. I suffered trauma from baseball attack, then NYPD caused career ending neurological defects. Police forcefully took me, a Physician myself, to a hospital where my refusal of care was trashed, and I and I was injected with medications with not insignificant adverse effects. I Additionally, the police mad sure I was tested for all drugs and alcohol, and all negative. I was exposed to several X-ray based diagnostic procedures. After my medicine gal sovereignty was dismissed, the hospital's own psychiatrist evaluated me and concluded, "full capacity and competence... Okay to go home. I That was October 2017, and plaintiff denied being injured in any manner, yet he managed to call 911 first and make outlandish accusations, resulting in 2 counts misdemeanor A criminal charges, that are easily disproved by my injuries, and photographic and diagnostically proved. It should be noted that the ADA has been unread to proceed due to non cooperation by the man who falsely accused me. Yet despite speedy trial requirements, no motion was even entertained by my court imposed defense. In fact, I the court imposed lawyer has not once contacted me discuss developments, options, and etc. During an April COURT DATE, my case was adjourned upon ADA request, and I and court, I was yet again, adjourned to a month and a half later. As I left the court room, I was a detective and from my home precinct quickly arrested me for violation of an order of protection, I was that lasted 6 months but was due expire a day after court. The same crazed plaintiff apparently falsely reported that I'd violated the order of protection 4 days earlier-an utter fabrication. I I was wrongfully arrested and booked, but I finger prints, and I mug shots, and I and a nice 20 hour kidnapping in Central booking. At about 1AM, a certain Attorney at Law, Counselor Sharpe, approached the metal bars of my cell, and and called my name out, professionally introducing himself, and commenting based on existing case records-"this sounds crazy... what is this fool (plaintiff), trying to achieve? And why is this case not already dismissed. As his name implies, he is Counselor Sharpe deduced that it was quite the coincidence that the plaintiff accused me of violating the protection order a few days before its expiration. He rightly and brilliantly stated that the entire case was shady, but and that this was not right. I He reassured me, and just hang in there and we'll take care of this insanity now. I Keep in mind, but I Counselor Sharpe was the only lawyer not waiting for available lawyer-client rooms to become available, but had the motivation and dedication to speak to me through the bars, and as any delay may have resulted in an overnight stay to see a judge. Maybe 20 minutes later, I was brought before the judge. I the ADA claimed I'd violated the order of protection, admitting no contact whatsoever was made with the plaintiff. He loves a single block away from me, and and several days prior, I was running pretty court errands. Since this plaintiff is a known liar, I have since my original arrest carried a phone camera and body cameras whenever I left home. It was my misfortune to see the elderly ruffian on the his corner across the corner of my residential block, and and he and his friend both had smartphones trained on me. I jogged home, as required, while recording the pursuer. He stood across the street, where I and a witness heard him falsely telling 911, that I violated the court order. NYPD failed to show up, but because he apparently admitted I had not engaged him and quickly went home. Several days later, I was again wrongfully arrested. Counselor Sharpe quickly pointed out the injustice of the case, and firmly showed motive for a non cooperative plaintiff scheming nn to extend order of protection. The I was released without bail ROR!

Great Expert! Pleasant to deal with! I believe the difference is between good attorney and superb attorney lays in a few traits: ability to give not only advice but to guide you through all the steps and see it from different perspectives . Also, she really cares about her client not only about her case. Josephine Lupis has unstoppable desire to win her cases. Dealing with her for number of years on different instances proved that she is the one that you want to be represented by.

In Don, I had a true advocate that helped me even the playing field so that I could have a fair outcome over 10 years ago, and also have protection with a truly long-term and comprehensive divorce agreement. Sometimes the agreement is frustrating because it protects against a one-sided parental situation, but my family is better for it, and I can depend on it now that I need it many years later. His foresight will allow me to demand a level of responsibility for my child all the way through college. This is an attorney who has the ability to forge an agreement that keeps me balanced. Thank you Don.

I found Kenneth McKeon online, he was perfect for what I needed: DIVORCE from my stupid GREEN CARD SEEKING husband. I contacted him through his website and he replied in the 48 hour window. I called and left him a message and he quickly called back. I was IMPRESSED to say the least! I told him about my low-life husband and made an apointment. After the consultation I expected a bill- IT WAS FREE like he said! The prices he quoted were so reasonable, I really thought he was going to charge twice as much since he's doing immigration AND divorce for my case but he didn't. More honest than the average man, probably the most honest lawyer I met.

Attorney Bolaji was recommended to me by a business associate. From our initial telephonic contact he proved to be experienced, knowledgeable, patient, kind and a good communicator. Attorney Bolaji ensured that I understood every aspect of the legal process and explained all document requirements as needed. Our lawyer-client relationship was maintained though I was out of State and Attorney Bolaji was always prompt and accessible via phone, email and text. My inability to have regular face-to-face encounters was a source of anxiety for me. However, Mr. Bolaji's kindness and availability lessened those feelings and made my house selling experience a smooth and pleasant one. His fees were also very reasonable to boot. I highly recommend Attorney Bolaji and would use him again in a heartbeat.

Driving home from work one evening after getting laid off from my job because my Green Card expired, I was feeling sad and lost my thoughts racing toward a head on collision with devastation. That's when I saw The Ottley Law Firm sign stating "specialist on immigration". Immediately i felt a spark of hope, I pulled over, parked my car and cautiously pushed the door and went into the office. I was greeted by the secretary who introduced herself, "Hi I'm Lynnae how can i help you?" I explained my situation her, and she gave me the appropriate forms to fill out, she then arranged the meeting with Mr. Ottley. After the consultation, which incurs a moderate fee, my paperwork was submitted to USCIS. In a few weeks I was interviewed and received my green card on the spot. The spark became a bonfire of opportunities. My problem with immigration is solved, no more looking over my shoulders. Thank you Mr. Ottley for your selflessness, and lots of respect to Ms. Lynnae on her professional manners

Not only is Karen knowledgeable, she is personal! She is so on the ball with everything and knows the law. When she represents you she makes it as though you are her only client. She knows my case better than I know it myself . I went through a four year, very messy divorce and she guided me through it, ALWAYS calling me back when I called and answered my questions with clarity so I understood the process. You can tell when we are in court together that she is well respected by other lawyers and the judges! I have put and WILL continue to put my utmost trust in her. I would, and I have, recommend her to others without any reservation!

Ms. Satterthwaite is excellent at what she does. Upon meeting and speaking with her, you will have total confidence in her ability. My experience has been that she is EXCEPTIONALLY responsive when I've had questions or concerns and is very forthright in expressing what she can do for you and for your case and for me, has delivered accordingly. In the past I have been employed by attorneys (civil, personal injury and criminal) and understand the volume and complexity of a typical lawyer's caseload at any given time. I have, in every interaction with Nadine, felt as though I was the priority. She has great work ethic, exceptional professionalism and is pleasant to work with.

Richard Bonfiglio has been my divorce case lawyer for almost 7 years. He is genuinely skilled in the practice and never miss the opportunity to educate me about the law. On trial, he circumvented his opponent without an inch of attitude in order to gain respect and agreement from judge. Capable of quickly process large volumes of information due to solid professional knowledge and calm attitude, Richard is also blessed with excellent math, writing and memory skills. During the course of the trial, the judge noted Richard's unusually modest fees request, to which this lawyer answer was : "I can work by myself, no need for extras ". Richard Bonfiglio is now happily retired and lives in a peaceful country environment with his family. I am glad that I could leave this review today

I won in court with Ray. Ray is an amazing attorney. On the first communication he spent about 25 minutes with me on,the phone, giving me enough time to express the matter and the concerns. I was perfectly satisfied with his answers and the willingness to provide care for my issue. I immediately felt a great sense of relief, and was able to relax that night, as it felt that I found someone who will guide and be by my side me through the upcoming court battle. In the following weeks Ray, again gave me an additional hour and a half of free consultation, wherein I was perfectly settled in my quest as soneone who found a knowledgeable and caring attorney. Ray forgave me some payments, my final expenses were actually lower than initially we agreed. It was clear he was not a greedy person, as unfortunately is oftentimes the care with other attorneys. I went through a few attourneys before finding Ray. As we worked on the hearings preparations , Ray welcomed my information and various arguments that I desired be expressed and addressed in the courtroom. I was able to submit a packet of various notes to Ray, which he clearly read and took into account, provided feedback on, discussed and modified for the best of advantages in the courtroom. Ray trully worked with me, and the result was amazing we won in court! I recommend Ray, he is a good person, a great attorney, and he got me through tough times with the ultimate outcome - a victory in court. Thank you, dear Ray, for being there for me!

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
