My husband and I needed some legal help, counseling, advice, and direction. We were hoping to sit down with someone who would listen to the situation that we have found ourselves in and then provide for the above-mentioned needs. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Several times in conversation, he made comments regarding our intelligence, or lack thereof, cut us off while we were speaking, had zero interest in listening to our concerns about said situation, and was subsequently of no help. He spoke horribly about his secretary and was rude to her. He made an easy two hundred and fifty dollars off of us, and we left frustrated and with no guidance at all. If you are also in need of the same kind of help as we were, look somewhere else or seek counseling with his daughter, Angela Guttman, and don't waste your time or money.

Jack Wilkins represented my son in law. His fee was $40,000. He talked him into pleading guilty in exchange for his charges reduced from 25 to 12 and no more than 20 year's. Mr Wilkins did nothing to defend my son in law. My son in law was sentenced to 50 years for what should have been 3-10 years. On public records we could look up the plea agreement and it was the opposite of what Mr Wilkins said it was. There was no reduction of charges or limit on sentence. He allowed unsubstantiated evidence to be used in the prosecutors closing remarks that inadmissable.

Mr.Jayne has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. I thought me being a man in Florida and in the military My chances of getting custody of my daughter were slim to none. Most people told me just to give in. Mr.Jayne gave me hope, and he made me believe I had a chance. So I believed in him. He was a dog in that court room (in a good sense). He fought for my interest and my daughters interest. He is honestly one of the biggest reasons I’m on the road to become a lawyer now. I would recommend him to anyone, he does his research and he is a fighter.

KENNETH DID EVERYTHING HE SAID HE WOULD DO FOR MY CASE. MY EX-HUSBAND WHOM IS AN OFFICER IN THE MILITARY WHO CHEATED WITH THE NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR, TRIED TO GET CUSTODY OF OUR THREE DAUGHTER AND NOT PAY CHILD SUPPORT FOR THEM. I HIRED KENNETH AND HE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO ME AND WE WENT TO COURT AND HE DID HIS THING AND I RECEIVED CUSTODY OF THE KIDS AND HE HAD TO PAY GOOD GRIP OF CHILD SUPPORT AS WELL AS RECEIVING PART OF HIS RETIREMENT. ITS CHEAPER TO KEEP HER, OR KENNETH WILL HANDLE IT.

When I first met Ken I was expecting someone a lot older, but don't let his age scare you because the man knows the law. I've had to swim with several sharks in the water, but this guy is truly looking out for your best interest instead of his own wallet like most attorneys. Each meeting was set in a professional environment, but at the same time it was a very laid back atmosphere which made it most comfortable. When I had my consultation with Ken about my divorce, he was upfront with me in the beginning in what I would lose so there were no surprises, but he also told me what I had to gain. Whenever I needed to get in touch with Ken, he or his paralegal Kathy always responded within the same day. Fortunately, I was able to settle my divorce out of court and my attorney was right there by my side the entire time. I was pleased with the outcome and I honestly can't say I would have been better off going to court. I had to shed out some money to my ex wife and her attorney, but I already knew that I was going to have to do that. What Ken did was save me thousands of $ in the long run and for that I am forever grateful.

Talks in circles, pads his billing, sexist, unethical behavior, rude, arrogant, bully, liar, loves to threaten to withdraw, etc. Need I go on? Don't hire this man. At times I wasn't sure he wasn't working against me. He has no interest in justice, only concerned with lining his pockets while you suffer. He and his staff lose every document you give them and one doesn't know what the other is doing. You usually won't get a response until you've made (and paid for) numerous requests.

Only in it to take advantage of people regardless thier innocents. Told me the Judicial system just cares about processes and not justice. I am a Veteran on VA and Social Security Disability. He took all the money I had. I gave it to him up front and all he did was drag out the case for 8 months then sold me out for a plea deal because he thought I was not serious when I told him I only had the money I paid him in full up front. I had to get that $5500 from a Charity for Veterans that belived in my innocents. I still have to pay court costs which put money into funding victims of things I was not even charged with or convicted of being guilty. He can't defend your Constitutional rights. While on the phone continued to argue with me when all I asked was for a call back from Mr. Sellers who I’ve contacted for 2 weeks with no answer in office or by cell. Mr. Sellers told his client he would be getting out of jail when they go to court June 29th and then tells him in court sorry I messed up. Saddest part is we both told the kids he was getting out and he didn’t. Mr. Sellers client contacted me from jail and asked me to call Mr. Sellers to see what’s was going on. While she was with Whibbs & Stone, she handled SSDI & SSI cases. She never checked her secretary's work. I wasn't automatically sent copies of any of her work product. I was just told, "It takes time." I needed a copy of my appeal which her secretary gave me. Apparently, she used precious work product as forms to make the work easier. I found part way through my claim sent to the Appeals Court that I had suddenly become an older man with problems. She said she would take care of it. Within 2 weeks I received a denial from the Appeal Court, and she dropped my case like a hot potato. After my paperwork was reviewed by two other firms, I was informed that she was incompetent and had given more info than was necessary. Her sloppy "form" habits didn't help. Since there were many mistakes made, I was unable to get additional representation elsewhere. Her inept represention caused serious depression and anxiety. Maybe she learned more. I would never use her to clean my home, let alone represent me in court. I am glad so many of you feel you got good results. I didn't file a complaint. I couldn't think of her or my case for a long time. I juat didn't work. I kept going into a deep depression.

I wish I had read the other reviews before I considered this person. This "lady" lacks all morals. Jill Warren was recommended to me by Tiffany Woodward. At first she was amazing, I fell for her enthusiasm, her determination and just enough slink to handle my complicated divorce. However her skulls were very short term. She was a very good show. Became more impressed with the opposing attorneys flirting with her. Was terrified to take my case to trial because she openly admired she was intimidated by the new judge. She ruined my life. My ex husband didn’t have too. Jill Warren’s lack of professionalism, knowledge and promises destroyed me. She made promises: a investigation into finances, witnesses, etc. I do not see how she sleeps at night. Do not fall for her initial service and promises, she is the worse mistake of my life. The law is definitely not 50-50 when Jill represents you…she destroys your case. 33 year marriage!! All I got was his debt and Jill’s bill!

A co-worker of mine recommended Gayle as a lawyer when I spoke with him about some of the issues my husband and I had been dealing with in regards to the Florida child support system. They had been making him pay the incorrect amount of child support for years. After fighting as much as we could on our own and seeing no results and wasted time, we consulted with Gayle Ryba to see what she could do to help. My co-worker spoke so highly of how she was able to help him to get his case corrected so I had a good feeling about it-- but by the end of it all, she completely exceeded our expectations! She was able to help us get not only the financial part of his case corrected but he walked away with more time sharing for the year than he walked in with! I HIGHLY recommend Gayle for anyone who is needing assistance with their family law matters. She is knowledgeable and fair! Awesome Awesome Awesome attorney!

My sister hired this firm to represent her to help her get a Final Judgment Set Aside among other issues in her case with the help our family that was well communicated with Greg. He proclaimed that he would help with all of her matters. I even spoke with him and his support staff too about my sister’s case but now refuse to speak with me to inquire as to why they have now filed a Motion to Withdraw from her matter and he has left numerous issues unresolved as I find it disgusting and disturbing of their lack of professionalism. Again, this firm was suppose to help her on numerous of matters. He waited nearly 3 months to file the “Motion” that he now claims he was “only” hired to do on her matter with the court after getting paid in advance. He received a letter from opposing counsel proclaiming they took too much money from my sister’s 401k account and has sat on it too admitting it has gone unanswered. This issue too was another reason why he was hired. The office never answers the phone and they use their caseload as an excuse as to their poor performance. “Often citing that my sister is not their only client”. How would that statement make you feel if you were a client of theirs? A deadline was missed in her case by 4 days and the excuse of a security breach was used that nearly happened weeks prior to the Judge asking for a Briefing Order to be submitted, which was not disclosed in their Motion for Extension of Time after they missed the Judge’s deadline. One would think that if a security breach caused your firm to miss a deadline, it would have been well noted in their Motion for Extension of Time to the Judge. Luckily, the Judge granted his extension; however, the brief submitted wasn’t in support to set a Final Judgment aside as the case cited was in opposition to their claim to set aside. It seems excuses is all this firm has and unwilling to refund my sister’s money for their lack of being prepared. They claim they’ve used up all of her funds too. No invoice was ever given upon employment. They also failed to submit a document that the Judge asked to accompany the briefing order, part (b) an Amended Final Judgment to include computations that was not included with their brief. They repeatedly asked for documents that was supplied numerous of times to them! I’d strongly encourage you to get my sister’s Motion to Set Aside Final Judgment, their Brief to that Motion and opposing counsel’s response to their Brief from the Court in Escambia County (Brock Kennedy v. Amy Kennedy) as it should be a guiding light for anyone in need of an Attorney. This attorney will talk a big game to get hired it seems to me. He should have been very transparent about his “big” caseload as this excuse was given multiple of times to my sister and to me by Jennifer and Greg. Jennifer asked that I help with the writing of the Motion to Set Aside as their paralegal was out of the office due to an illness and they were short staffed, then blatantly lied about it. I have legal experience, so I drafted and submitted a Motion to them to help them with “their big caseload”. I actually cited a great case in my Motion to Set Aside that wasn’t even used in their brief. This firm cited a case that wasn’t in even in support to set aside and opposing counsel noted that in his response and the Judge sided with opposing counsel. I’d actually have to agree with the Judge’s ruling for their failure to submit cases that supported their position to set aside. All public record. It is an attorney’s job to keep clients apprised of their case status, which is their fiduciary duty. An attorney shouldn’t half attempt to handle legal matters and wait months to get a result! Do your research and carefully read reviews of other clients as my comments and opinions are of the same of others. Unfortunately, the legal profession in Florida is saturated with Attorneys that talk a big game prior to being hired and do less than mediocre work once hired.

Mrs. Bushnell was appointed as GAL for my custody case for my son. Jennifer truly takes her time in listening to what you have to say. She was very fair and had only the best interest of my child in mind. Her compassion for my son and her ability to gain his trust to advocate for him was astounding. This woman truly cares for the best interest and not a dollar sign. There are so many more words I wish I could say to show how amazing this woman has been, but words just don't cut it. This law firm is horrible. They handle my settlement payment very poorly. They charged Veterans 40% for there services plus another 9% went to somewhere else. So, basically they took 50% of Veterans settlement proceeds. I am sure the are aware that most Veterans live on a fixed budget and won't complain because we need the funds. They received the funds sometime in July. When I contacted them about my specfic case they stated that my distribution letter was in the writing process. I waited until August 1 to contact them again and they stated they sent the letter out on the 31st of July. I informed them I did not receive it. They then to me they would send one out within the next three days. I did not receive a distribution letter until the 15th of August. I questioned them about when payment would be made they stated 14 days if you oped for direct deposit. It has been 15 business days and I contacted them about where my funds were and now they are stating the lost a batch of distribution letters and it will take an additional 15 days. This behavior is unacceptable. You can't even report there behavior. So hopefully someone reads this prior to choosing this law firm.

I got a lot of promises from Mr. Wise about what he could do to help my case but after I signed the paperwork and paid him, his whole attitude changed. He became nasty and wouldn't take calls. He didn't do No more than what a public defender would have done on my case. Hiring him was a waste of my money.

A few months ago I was in an accident and received a ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign. The accident happened at night in a construction area, and the sign was 30 feet from the edge of the road at an odd angle, which resulted in the sign not reflecting in the headlights. In addition, the entire road I was on was well-lit by streetlights except for that particular intersection, which was completely dark. Even the police officer who wrote the ticket told me he would contest it if it were him and specified the reasons. We made a video that night and took pictures the next day. However, never having had any personal experience navigating the court system and after several days of trying to do the research and figure it out on my own I contacted Mr. Wise. It turned out to be the best decision I could have made! He actually gave me a substantial discount because it was a good case - we had the pictures and the video - and he thought it might be a fun case to try. Seriously. I found his attitude as an attorney extremely refreshing and entirely unexpected. This was clearly not the stereotypical attorney who is just interested in the money. He clearly knew, understood, and enjoyed the law. He was very personable and genuinely seemed to care about the case. We ended up with some unexpected glitches which extended the case but he never asked for additional funds. In the end, the court date got switched to a day earlier than scheduled without either of us knowing about it. He was at the courthouse that morning and got the case dismissed before I even knew the date had changed! I would strongly recommend him, and if I ever need an attorney again (not planning to lol) or if anyone I knows needs one I'll contact him first. At least I feel like he would steer me in the right direction even if it isn't the type of case he normally takes.

I'd like to take a moment today and share some feedback about today's traffic court hearing with our local referral attorney Mr. Gregory M. Wise. I was very impressed this morning with Mr. Wise's assistance. Technically, I was guilty and the best I could do was to pay the fine and have Mr. Wise could fight for no points on my insurance record. After the cop failed to appear, and a weak testimony from the opposing party, Mr. Wise completely amazed me and the rest of the traffic court defendants by rattling off some legal jargon that left us all confused and amazed. The judge dismissed the case. I was so elated I could hardly contain my enthusiasm. I've heard "a good attorney knows the law and a great attorney knows the judge." I also argue that superior attorneys including Mr. Wise know the smallest loopholes in the law.

John Kavartek is wolf in sheep’s clothing. Please save yourself from this man that pretends to be an attorney. I paid him in total 10,000 dollars for my divorce. First meeting with him I was promised the moon. At the end of the divorce I have nothing. I was awarded a small amount and still haven’t received it. In order for John Kavartek to file contempt charge against my ex husband I would have to pay him another 2500 dollars. My advice is represent yourself instead of hiring him. Anyone with a first grade education could do better than john Kavartek

John is the most ethical, understand and compassionate lawyer I have yet to meet. And I've been through many unfortunately. He takes the time to really understand each and every clients needs and knows how royally painful and frustrating the divorce process is. He TRULY has you and even better- your children's best interests at heart. His experience with quasi criminal cases is outstanding. You wont find a better lawyer in the panhandle that will go to bat for you. He will not fail you. I couldn't have asked for any better representation. Call him. You won't regret it.

If you need help with Family Law then Earlynn Stillwell is your attorney! My case was a bit difficult and she never failed me. I live in Alabama and had to fight my custody battle in Florida and she always made sure that I was informed correctly to help guide me in making the right decisions. Even when the judge said he didn't think it was best to involve a guardian ad litem, Earlynn filed the paperwork anyway. She knew that our situation warranted my children having a voice of their own. She referred me to the guardian that was hired and without that guidance, my children may not be home today where they belong. I am eternally grateful to Earlynn and her entire team!

I can’t recommend this attorney because it was too hard to get a hold of her. I was not able to get contacted for a consultation, after multiple attempts over a week. I decided to seek another attorney after the phone call appointment this morning came and went with no call, no email, no anything. It’s disheartening because she said this morning and this time would work.. it was her own suggested date and time, she got to pick. I would have appreciated even a “Can we reschedule, something came up,” or any communication at all, but none came. I scheduled time out of my work day for my 30 minute consultation and never heard anything. Since it was already difficult to get the consultation to begin with, I did not find it in my best interest to remind her of our phone appointment this morning that was missed. I just do not feel valued enough as a client so I will seek help elsewhere.

I was involved in a dependency case with my 2 children that stemmed from an incident where their mother was arrested for child neglect. We had been separated for going on 2 years, and this particular incident was kept from me. We had been time sharing with the children for over a year, and I had my children with me every week. Mr Cserep was my court appointed attorney, and I do not recommend him after what I've experienced. Mr Cserep did the same thing to me that he was publicly reprimanded for in 2018, failing to communicate with his clients. I tried to reach Mr. Cserep for a month almost with no response. He was available though at our first court date through zoom in the courtroom, but was only available through audio since his camera was "broken". Mr. Cserep claimed he had been trying to reach me and wasn't able to. When I produced a list of all the times and ways I had tried to contact Mr. Cserep, the judge questioned him about whether or not he had received emails from me on certain dates, and Mr. Cserep admitted he did receive my communications, and neglected to respond. This is just one instance of the absurdity and aversion that I encountered throughout my family court experience. Mr. Cserep continued to disappoint me throughout this process until I ultimately decided to remove myself from the proceedings. I thought I would find justice and logic going before a judge, but instead I only found absurdity and aversion. My relationship with my children has suffered so much throughout this process and has ultimately caused irreversible damage. I have been hurt more than you could imagine, and ultimately alienated from my children. My children's mother was given custody after being convicted of felony child neglect, and I lost my rights as a parent. Very eye opening and very sad experience.

What a Family Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A family law lawyer provides legal services related to family relationships, including marriage, divorce, child custody, and adoption. Family lawyers help clients navigate emotionally charged legal issues, providing guidance and representation in disputes that affect spouses, children, and parents. Whether you're going through a divorce, seeking custody of your children, or drafting a prenuptial agreement, a family law lawyer ensures your rights are protected and your interests are represented.

Family law attorneys often handle sensitive matters and offer objective legal advice, helping clients reach fair outcomes either through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

When Should I Hire a Family Law Lawyer?

Hiring a family law lawyer is beneficial in several situations, especially when legal matters involve close personal relationships. Common reasons to hire a family law lawyer include:

  • Divorce or separation: When ending a marriage, a lawyer can help you navigate issues such as division of assets, spousal support, and child custody arrangements.
  • Child custody and visitation disputes: If you and your co-parent can't agree on custody or visitation, a lawyer can represent your interests and work toward a solution that benefits your children.
  • Child support: Whether you’re seeking child support or defending against a claim, a lawyer can help ensure the appropriate amount is calculated and enforced.
  • Prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: A lawyer can help draft or review agreements that protect your assets in case of divorce.
  • Adoption: Family law lawyers guide you through the legal process of adoption, ensuring that all requirements are met.
  • Domestic violence or restraining orders: If you're a victim of domestic violence or being falsely accused, a lawyer can help you obtain or challenge protective orders.
  • Paternity cases: If there are questions about the paternity of a child, a lawyer can help establish or dispute legal fatherhood.

Hiring a lawyer early can prevent issues from escalating, and they can offer you the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome in emotionally charged situations.

What Does a Family Law Lawyer Do?

A family law lawyer provides a wide range of services depending on your specific legal needs. Their responsibilities may include:

  • Advising on legal rights and options: Helping you understand your legal rights regarding divorce, child custody, support, and other family law issues.
  • Filing legal documents: Drafting and filing petitions, motions, and agreements with the court, such as divorce papers, custody agreements, or support orders.
  • Representing clients in court: Arguing your case in front of a judge if a settlement can’t be reached through negotiation or mediation.
  • Mediation and negotiation: Assisting with alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation, to reach agreements on issues like custody, property division, and support without going to trial.
  • Enforcing court orders: Helping you enforce court orders related to child support, alimony, or custody if the other party fails to comply.
  • Drafting prenuptial or postnuptial agreements: Creating agreements that protect your assets in the event of a divorce.
  • Handling adoption proceedings: Ensuring that the legal process of adoption is followed, from filing paperwork to finalizing the adoption in court.

How Are Family Law Lawyers Paid?

Family law lawyers typically charge clients in one of several ways, depending on the complexity of the case and the lawyer’s experience. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Most family lawyers charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and location. Clients are billed for the time spent working on their case, including consultations, court appearances, and document preparation.
  • Flat fees: For more straightforward legal services, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, some lawyers offer flat-fee arrangements.
  • Retainer fees: In cases that are expected to require significant time and attention, such as contentious custody battles, a lawyer may charge a retainer, which is an upfront payment that covers the initial costs of legal services. The lawyer then bills against the retainer as they work on your case.

The exact cost will depend on the complexity of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure, which should be discussed upfront.

How Much Does a Family Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a family law lawyer varies based on factors such as the lawyer's experience, the location, and the complexity of your case. Here are some general cost guidelines:

  • Hourly rates: Family law lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For simpler cases, such as drafting a prenuptial agreement or handling an uncontested divorce, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Retainers: For more complex matters, such as contested divorces or custody battles, lawyers may charge a retainer ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 or more. The lawyer will bill against the retainer for the work they do on your case.
  • Additional costs: You may also be responsible for additional costs, such as filing fees, mediation fees, or expert witness fees.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of the lawyer’s fees and any additional expenses during your consultation.

Top Questions to Ask a Family Law Lawyer

Before hiring a family law lawyer, it's important to ask questions to ensure they're the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask during your consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with family law cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's a contested divorce, child custody dispute, or adoption.
  2. How will you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, a flat fee, or requires a retainer. Ask for an estimate of the total costs involved.
  3. What are the possible outcomes of my case?
An experienced lawyer should be able to give you a general idea of what to expect based on the facts of your case.
  4. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Ask whether the lawyer tends to favor negotiation and mediation or whether they prefer to take cases to court. This can help you determine if their style matches your goals.
  5. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it’s difficult to predict, the lawyer should give you an estimate based on similar cases.
  6. Who will be handling my case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may do much of the work, so make sure you understand who will be your main point of contact.

How to Check the Credibility of a Family Law Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable family law lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and is in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on websites like Avvo, Google, or Martindale-Hubbell. Previous clients can give you insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and success in family law cases.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer for references from past clients who can speak to their experience with the lawyer.
  • Review their website or professional profile: Look at the lawyer’s background, case history, and areas of focus to ensure they have substantial experience in family law.
  • Look for professional memberships: Membership in reputable organizations, such as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), can indicate a lawyer's expertise and dedication to family law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a family law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Relevant documents: Bring any documents related to your case, such as marriage certificates, prenuptial agreements, financial records, custody agreements, or court orders.
  • List of assets and debts: For divorce cases, prepare a detailed list of all assets (e.g., homes, bank accounts, retirement funds) and debts (e.g., mortgages, loans, credit card balances).
  • Details of the family issue: Provide a written summary of the situation, including key dates and facts related to your divorce, custody dispute, or support issue.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions you have about the legal process, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • Your goals: Be prepared to discuss your objectives, such as custody arrangements, property division, or spousal support, so the lawyer understands your priorities.

Being organized and clear about your situation will help the lawyer evaluate your case more effectively and offer the best advice for moving forward.
