Over that entire time Jim was always smart, tenacious, experienced, a great listener, and (most importantly) caring. A lot of road blocks popped up over the life of my case. Jim figured out a way over, around or through each one. Jim's deep contacts at the agency, and the credibility he has built up over his many years representing clients before the VMRC, turned out to be a resource that was very helpful in getting my case resolved in highly favorable terms. I hired Mr. Mitchell to assist with the very sad but necessary eviction of a family member from a townhouse. Mr. Mitchell was always prompt, courteous and professional in all our communication, which was made more challenging due to me living out of state. He informed me thoroughly of my legal rights and responsibilities and of legal actions to be taken in various circumstances. He coached me well in how to communicate with the family member tenant in order to comply with the law and get the best outcome. He took care of serving the tenant the written notice. And because of this, we a had the best outcome considering the very difficult and unfortunate circumstances. Should I need a lawyer in VA Beach again, I will definitely reach out to him.

Frugal Legal Services should be the staple for how all parents are represented in custody cases. Ms. Burroughs worked hard and diligently on my case and set realistic expectations. My case had a ton of unrelated issues to custody and Ms. Burroughs was completely understanding and worked through our nearly 9 month case. Ms. Burroughs is a magical and enlightening person who gets results. I went from having no contact with my children to now everything is 50/50 and I get to see my sons every other week and have the assurance that no one should be able to change that. The only shame here is that I can only give Ms. Burroughs and Frugal Legal Services 5 stars because it doesn’t let you show off the absolute brilliance of the firm or Ms. Burroughs. Ms. Burroughs and Frugal Legal Services are the prime and top option of any family matters should anyone require those services. I will recommend them for my entire life because of the amazing work that was done.

I had my first consultation (Zoom) with Attorney Pfeiffer yesterday, and our meeting went very well! Attorney Pfeiffer appeared to be very knowledgeable, experienced, and especially thorough about the entire process of filing bankruptcy, which helped to put me at ease.

After hiring an attorney I had known for a very long time who almost immediately became ill after taking my case, and then being passed along to another attorney in the same firm who was not providing me with the level of representation I was seeking, I decided to research family law attorney bios and their reviews. I then decided to hire Dale as my advocate after dismissing my former attorney. Dale immediately demonstrated a level of knowledge, capability, and empathy that was unsurpassed. When I first called her office to set up an initial consultation, I was even surprised that she answered her own phone directly. She immediately demonstrated compassion for my situation and moved quickly to take on my high conflict child custody case. She informed me of integral information that I had not received from my previous attorney and she also kept me informed of every action that I had to take, as well as every action she was going to take. She also gave me homework to do, so that she would not have to charge me as much for doing some of the work between herself and her staff, but then she still provided me discounts on my bills. Every time I met with Dale, it was evident to me that she was doing everything within her power to advocate for me. Her understanding of both family law and psychology made her an outstanding attorney who is like no other in her field. Dale is extremely professional, as she is attentive, kind, considerate, and a great listener with amazing ideas. While we unfortunately did not win our case, it was through no fault of hers because I was in a situation where many “cards” were stacked against me from beginning to end, especially a very non-responsive, biased, and unprofessional court appointed Guardian Ad Litem (GAL). While we knew it was going to be an uphill battle all the way, Dale never stopped trying to do her best for me. In summary, I don't believe I could have found a more caring advocate and attorney than Dale and those who worked with and for her at her law firm. If you want the best family law attorney, she is the best.

Mrs. Berrett, is by far the best lawyer to seek with any type of child custody, divorce or other related matters. I hired Mrs. Berrett from a personal friend referral, for my divorce and custody battle. Mrs. Berretts attention to detail and care and compassion for her job and the well being of her client far exceeds any other lawyer i have had the pleasure of working with. While she is nicknamed the Barracuda is because Mrs. Berrett is well known for being aggressive in and out of the courtroom representing the law! I originally came into contact with Mr. Rowlands when he represented the individual I was suing in General District court. (In other words, he was the opposing counsel).
He litigated that case so well and effectively, that I followed up with him regarding a matter I needed assistance with regarding a Federal inmate I'm advocating for. He completed the most thorough and complete version of that particular document (a Power of Attorney,) I have ever seen.
The third matter I consulted with him on was regarding a civil matter in General District court I had started on my own, but then needed to follow up on with counsel.
For one thing, one generally wouldn't choose to secure the services of former opposing counsel, but due to his excellent work, I was so impressed with Mr. Rowlands as a whole, that I knew he was who I would want handling any legal matter I may ever have.
He was a superb litigator (with a difficult client who he was working with under far less than ideal circumstances,) and we worked together to reach a settlement that was satisfactory and in the best interests of all parties.
He is a great communicator and truly goes above and beyond to get the job done.
Even more impressively, regarding the third matter, while he certainly gave me the resources and information I needed to handle the matter, he also advised me that in his opinion, while I have a case, the time and energy required for me to pursue it really wouldn't be worth it, in the long run. He also advised me of an entirely different option that I will be pursuing in the interest of justice.
Mr. Rowlands has impeccable ethics and skill. He is very easy to work with (regardless of which side of the table you're on!) and I could note rate him any higher than I have.
I will most definitely go back to Mr. Rowlands for any legal matter I may have in the future.
If you need a good lawyer, regardless of how simple or complicated your case may be, he is the man for the job.

Over the course of the last 14 years I have used four different attorneys for the various issues that have arisen regarding custody of my child. Throughout my cases I was left wondering what my counsel was really doing. My attorneys were hard to get in touch with and I never really heard from them until a couple of days before the case went to court. I felt completely in the dark.
With Kellam, things were different from the start. He was very honest with his assessment of our case. Time was of the essence in my case and he hit the ground running. Linda is helping us out with a child support enforcement issue. She put our minds at ease immediately. Her expertise on the subject was apparent as soon as she gathered all of the relevant data on our case. She even gave strategies for how to discuss these issues with our child when they come up. She also gave a list of psychologists that can help. This is such a sensitive subject and can be traumatic for the child. It was nice to have an expert lawyer who cared for the human beings involved in the case, not just the case itself.

I was looking for a lawyer who would offer a free consultation to help me determine if it was worthwhile for me to pursue spousal support. I had read favorable reviews on Linda Shin and scheduled an appointment. I was, admittedly, disappointed when I was scheduled to meet with her associate, Michael Finch. I should not have been. He listened intently and compassionately while taking notes throughout our consultation. After, he asked me to supply more documentation/information and allow him time to research. After multiple back and forth emails, he advised that there was likely little to be gained by pursuing this action. He spent far more time on this than I ever would have expected for a free consultation. I was tremendously impressed by his ethics and integrity and would not hesitate to return to this firm with any future needs.

Over the last 30 years Mr. Basnight has been my attorney and has advised me on a number of legal issues and has represented me on a number of legal issues throughout the past 30 years.
He is currently my attorney for my divorce and has advise me on this issue on this matters. He thinks outside the box and try to find a way to pull a rabbit out of the hat. I entered in a custody battle, asking for joint legal/physical custody, with no intentions of hiring a lawyer. I was lost, scared, and had no idea of what to do so I met with Mr. Habib for a consult. From the moment I met with him, he was very direct and to the point and I hired him. He never gave me false hope, did not lie, or hide anything. Mr. Habib would advise me of his professional opinion and then ask me what I wanted to do, so he did everything with what I wanted in mind. I am not very good speaking in court and I messed up with my words and he was able to fix my mess up. The GAL was against joint legal/physical custody and its very hard to convince the judge to rule against the GAL and Mr. Habib was able to persuade the judge that what I was asking for was in the best interest of my son. After trial, there was an appeal, before the appeal we were came to an agreement and part of that agreement was to withdrawal the appeal and when the other party did not follow through with their part of the agreement, Mr. Habib withdrew our part of the agreement in order to turn their hand to get them to follow through with their part of the agreement. Mr. Habib is a very intelligent lawyer and is very good at what he does. I would recommend him to anyone that is in need of a custody lawyer. He does everything he says and goes far and beyond to get things done. In the end, I got what I asked for and what my child needed, joint legal/physical custody without either party paying child support. Thank you so much for helping me get through something that means so much and that was so hard and scary.

I cannot possibly have enough amazing things to say about Simon Marle and his entire staff. It’s not only about the lawyer, but the support and staff behind it for me. I called Simon’s office one night, over a year ago in desperation of where to turn and what to do. If you are not a lawyer, and you are involved in any kind of legal case, things can be very overwhelming and knowing what steps to take can be tricky. I called around 6pm and Simon Marle, himself answered the front desk phone. I was very thrown off, because typically lawyer/attorneys will not handle those kinds of matters. He gave me a free consultation about 20-25 minutes on my case. Was VERY straightforward, honest, and to the point. I put my trust in him, and I have NOT been disappointed in any way. His staff, Taylor, Samantha, and Lisa truly care about the clients and really spend their time being personal with you. I love that they address me by name and not by “client”. Samantha has bent over backwards to contact other parties for me and you can tell she put’s her time into her job. She is always on top of it, super respectful and goes above and beyond. Not one time, have I been brushed off or felt like I was being annoying or I have been to well over 5-7 court hearings with Simon. Each time we have gone, it has been a complete satisfactory outcome IF not more. Simon has always been a very caring and honest man. It is really hard to find people now that do not take advantage, or who really just do not spend time with your case. He personally will pull out a file and go line by line with you and explain and questions, details you may have missed or anything you do not understand. I think for me, the best is that it runs as a family unit, and when you are dealing with family courts/judicial issues, having the same mindset in your company, reflects when the clients are in person. He is affordable and I am so very grateful that I decided to go with him. I recommend him to ANY and all my friends and family who ask for recommendations. Simon has had experience in this for decades, and you can tell because his presence in court is respected very much not only by the judges and the staff but also by the other attorneys. I couldn't believe what had just happened to me, I was accused of a felony for shoplifting. No matter how I tried to explain the situation,I was ridiculed and mocked. I felt helpless and scared then I had a free consultation with Simon. Talking to him was easy and I knew I wanted him on my side. I talked to my husband about the consultation and we wasted NO time hiring him.
A visit to his office to discuss my situation, he immediately found an error in the paperwork from the police. Simon was so on top of the case. He put me at ease.
We went to court and he didn't let any the store security get away with anything. I'm not sure we were even in front of the judge 15 minutes when my case was dismissed !! I was already divorced when I hired Erik. My ex-husband was taking me to court to stop my alimony and to change custody that we already agreed on for our son. I'm so thankful I found Erik because the first attorney I hired was not at all what I expected; I had to ask to speak in court because that attorney wasn't answering questions the judge was asking. Erik was and is completely opposite; he fought for my rights and didn't leave a stone unturned. I might have a little issue with wanting to talk in court but Erik was good at keeping me calm and having me let him do what he is good at and what I hired him to do. He was ready and when I was completely thrown off guard by my ex asking the judge for full custody Erik was on it. I may have racked up attorney fees due to my ex appealing the judges decision about the alimony and going to court in front of the judge in July because my ex wouldn't settle with what Erik was proposing before court but Erik was on it. I spent almost a month trying to get my landlord to respond to my important request. I had a very tight deadline and the landlord would not respond.
