Valery was truly phenomenal in her support and guidance to me in an unfortunate accidental legal situation involving what was technically a felony crime on my part. Having never been in trouble with the law before, she was especially kind and supportive to me, and was successful in getting my charges dismissed. Valery is my savior and has my wholehearted endorsement.

When a major client owed me several months worth of invoices and refused to pay, a friend referred me to Kyle. His thorough and effective approach not only resolved the contract dispute but also secured the payment I was owed and I was even able to negotiate for the client to pay interest on top of what she owed. Our eviction case pushed Curt & his co-counsel team to their limits in every way, & they pulled through w/ flying colors. Our case, while practically over in our favor, instead of being a normally 1 month long UD, still lingers on after ~8 months not because of Curt, but because our opponent was ruled to be one of the most mean/obstructive Landlord attorneys out there, w/ over 20 years experience, & have an endless dirty playbook they launch against tenants which puts them at the top of the list of infamous, notorious Landlord attorneys- they are also a high volume Landlord side firm w/ HUGE resources & they do everything possible to bury & overwhelm their opponent, to run up costs & force missed response deadlines. For the first 4 mo, just to keep up w/ them, Curt had to dedicate his complete resources to our case (virtually shutting down his legal practice). Curt was able to get each of their mean legal tactic stricken down, & then, icing on the cake, got the judge to slap them w/ one of the largest (if not the largest) sanctions (penalties, like contempt of court) ever for their mean/obstructive behavior. Judges almost never give much sanctions, so Curt (& team) winning us that monster one was no small feat. I was present at many of his most important court motion hearings in our case, and closely read through the endless court hearing and deposition transcripts, digesting his responses, counter arguments, & lines of questioning. I could go on endlessly about all the twists & turns that he had to overcome, but suffice it to say that given our case has pushed all the boundaries of UD law/process, he has demonstrated himself to me to be an extremely competent, legally knowledgeable, adept, tenacious, & caring lawyer (& person). He has great instincts w/ the SF civil Judges, depositions, and real-time litigation strategy. W/ Judges, he’s actually very respectful, takes allot of abuse, rides the line to stay on their good side and builds a solid history and rapport. In depos, he’s got amazing instincts. His instincts to discover criminal/foul play in physical evidence were also very impressive. I was also amazed at how he can dig into and own all the endless facts of our extremely complex case. Most all other attorneys would just gloss it over, and ignore/miss key (even hidden) evidence. He also great on client communications stuff, and is very open to client input & guidance when helpful, yet is always polite and frank when it is not. He is extremely respectful, and has almost zero ego/elitist trips of most lawyers. No games or angles… he’s a strait shooter! He knows his court procedure pretty well, and is a tenacious fighter. When it comes to fighting the most notorious landlord firms, he only takes clients that are willing (and able) to go all the way to jury trial, and we wanted a firm that had effectively scrapped w/ them before, and could handle jury trial. I had interviewed literally dozens of top notch attorneys (most billing $300 - $450/hr, and many were obvious rip offs, looking to take as much $ as possible, and don’t care about results), and even the most experienced in SF UD cases (e.g., 15-20+ yrs exp) had only gone to jury trial once, and the rest had no jury trial experience, just doing some bench trials, which is no good for the bogus nuisance UD case maliciously slapped on us. He has close co-counsel associates who fill in gaps where his is practice not as strong. In our case, he teamed up w/ Marc Branco to shore up UD law practice. So, that combined w/ his jury trial experience (and their hunger to kick their butt), is what sold me on their ‘dynamic duo’ to go up against them. His criminal law experience was very pertinent to our very (fact driven) nuisance UD case, and he’s adept at picking apart (hostile) witnesses an triangulating to converge on favorable facts to the case. So, in sum, I can vouch that Curt (& team) are very competent re UD legal practice, highly ethical, they get results.

She has so much experience dealing with The City that she knew people by first name. "Oh, so-and-so? Yup, no problem." I knew I was in good hands. Michael has represented our Irrigation District since the late 1980's. His representation has been superb. He has helped us navigate, quite literally, through much "troubled water" -such as the breach of the Truckee Canal at Fernley, Nevada in 2008. He possesses a rare command of the law in California and elsewhere. His areas of practice, exercised on our behalf, have included administrative law, environmental law, property law, and water law. He works hard and keeps his client informed. His is a great courtroom presence accompanied by unfailing respect for the judiciary and the practice of law. He is admired and respected by his peers.

Michael has been the lead water attorney for the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District for more than 20 years. I have personally worked with Mr. VanZandt for more than 17 of those years. He has been a wonderful human being to work with in the trenches of the legal world. He is thoughtful, organized, and listens to the voice of those who hire him. He has led us through some very tough times in the fight to protect and preserve the water rights that are so important to our way of life in western Nevada. He also led us through some serious challenges by the Department of Justice against our organization and some employees. Gratefully with Mr. VanZandt's leadership and knowledge we prevailed. If you need legal assistance in water or other environmental issues, Mr. VanZandt is your guy.

In 2010, I experienced unbearable (and unlawful) workplace harassment and filed a Workers Comp claim which my employer promptly denied. I sought help from attorney Kenneth Sheppard to who I will be grateful for as long as I live. He was a terrific advocate and an absolute pleasure to work with. From my very first contact in 2010 through my most recent one today, Kenneth was and consistently remained kind, patient, effective, and efficient. He was either readily available to speak with me when I needed it or promptly returned my phone calls and emails. Kenneth did everything needed to get me excellent results. He is not only knowledgeable, skilled, level-headed, and realistic; he is also calm, reassuring, gracious, and generous. For example, after my Award was finalized, my employer took an unreasonable time paying my medical bills. Though Kenneth would not be specifically compensated for it, he filed a Motion with the WCAB and I eventually got paid. With Kenneth help, I was able to return to work with my dignity intact. Because I have some background in Workers Comp claims and understand the demands, I know Kenneth’s level of performance to be exceptional. Also, as a trained attorney who has met a few in my days, I can say without a doubt that Kenneth Sheppard is the finest among us.

Tamara was referred to me by a friend who was a partner at a huge national firm -- I was starting a new venture and needed some help with an acquisition deal, and, as a start-up/small business, I couldn't afford the services of my friend at big-ticket-law. He immediately thought of Tamara -- he'd worked on the other side of a matter with her and had been impressed with her skills, knowledge and business model (as an independent) and how well that worked for small cos, startups, etc. Tamara helped me prepare the acquisition contract, helping me understand the pros/cons of different approaches and the risks associated with specific language the other party wanted to use. She allowed me to do much of the drafting myself -- providing guardrails but also allowing me to save my scarce startup funds. Her advice proved invaluable later, when it was revealed that the seller presented false information in their disclosures, and I was able to avoid paying a big chunk of the acquisition cost. I have referred Tamara when I've had the opportunity and would happily work with her again if I had a similar legal need. Note, Tamara also does a lot of work in Europe -- apparently she's spending much of her time there now -- and I haven't had the opportunity to take advantage of her international expertise. But, I can only assume she approaches that aspect of her business with the diligence and professionalism she brought to my (relatively small) matter. Also worth noting that Tamara is super-friendly and down-to-earth, and you never once get the feeling she might over-charge you (the opposite, in fact). My only minor complaint is that she was so in-demand, it was sometimes slightly hard to reach her (although never when it really counted).

If you are shopping for a divorce attorney, you have my sincere sympathies. Its an awful process and was certainly one of the lowest points in my life. When looking for and attorney I was told to meet at least a few and find the right fit. I did that but after meeting the first two, I was disgusted. All I got was "we will go after them for this and that..." it was a process that seemed to be designed for them to make as much money as possible. Then I met Bill Parks and everything felt much better. Bill is a very calm person who instantly makes you feel like you are in the right hands. I think its very rare to be able to say this, but Bill genuinely cares for his clients and understands what you are going through is tough. I really can not recommend Parks Law Group highly enough.

I don’t have a ton of experience with lawyers, but would 100% recommend working with Cary after utilizing him to help with our prenuptial agreement. Cary was knowledgeable, quick to respond, and made the process as easy and straightforward as possible. Since Cary was my lawyer and my partner had a different lawyer, I can tell you that our experience was one of extreme differences. While Cary was no nonsense, great at listening and modifying the document to support our wishes, and respectful of our timeline- my partners lawyer was an absolute nightmare for us both. One large difference between the two was that Cary had a flat rate fee and my spouses lawyer charged by the hour. Because of this, I firmly believe his lawyer drew the process out as much as possible, often completely disregarding our express wishes, and did everything extremely last minute- causing a lot of stress and unnecessary anxiety for us all. That said, Cary did a fabulous job handling working with someone so unimpressive, and I believe is the only reason we ended up with a document at all.

There are a lot of good lawyers out there, but when your child is in trouble, you need a GREAT lawyer, and that's where Mike Silveira comes in. Today, Mike contacted us to share the fantastic news that our son's case was dismissed. This was no easy feat. Our son received a DUI in Nov. 2020, and to make matters worse, fentanyl (not intentionally ingested) was found in his system. We looked at reviews online and we chose Silveira Law based on the great reviews we read. We could not be happier with the outcome. For more than 3 years, Mike Silveira fought for our son, never giving up and doing everything legally possible to have the case dismissed. Mike stuck with it and continued to work the case even when the DA refused to reduce or dismiss it due to newer and stricter policy surrounding unintentional fentanyl. There are no words to describe our amazement when we learned today that the case was not just reduced -- but dismissed! Now our son can move forward with a clean slate -- all thanks to Mike. The dark cloud has lifted. If you find yourself in this situation, don't hesitate to go with Mike Silveira Law. He's truly the best there is! And he has a wonderful staff of folks working there! Thank you, Mike! We are forever grateful for your professionalism, tenacity, and kindness.

AMAZING!!! Got my 2nd DUI dismissed!!!! (small collision involved, no one hurt so I cannot believe it). Silveira communicated great, their office was easy to contact and courteous, detailed, and quick replies. He went to many many court dates over the last 3 years trying to get it dismissed and it paid off big time ! I never expected in my wildest dreams to have this turn out! Thank you!!!

Kevin helped me through an eviction attempt by one of the most prolific eviction law firms in the city; which due to him was unsuccessful. From beginning to end he found every fault with the filings from the landlord's attorney's. Due to him I was able to stay for as long as I needed at the place I was facing eviction from; then he also gave me pro-Bono advice for my current arrangement.

I can't recommend Kevin highly enough. He helped me through a legal difficulty with great success. I appreciated the time he took with me to really understand the case and do the research involved. He kept my expectations realistic, but the outcome far exceeded them. He was friendly but also professional. He was so sharp and tough that I actually felt a little bad for the other side, which was woefully unprepared by comparison. His bill was reasonable under any circumstances, but especially considering the great job he did for me.

The first things I must say about Lindsay is that he is generous of heart and wise. He offered me direct and strong guidance, was open to listening to my concerns, but most importantly, expertly explained the legal ins and outs (and potential costs) of the situation should I take it further. Let me be more specific: I had a book agent who lied and misrepresented submissions to editors, hid pertinent information, then tried to damage my reputation when I caught her in falsehoods. Lindsay helped me understand the pieces of the situation which are actionable, and which ones I need to leave behind me. His advice is clear, well-thought-out, and founded upon a practical approach to the law. He absolutely helped me clarify what I can do versus what direction I really want to take. I recommend him highly and without reservation.

Lindsay gave me sound advice while I was making a short film. He was strikingly down to earth, genuinely interested in understanding my specific concerns and figuring out with me the right path forward. I walked away feeling confident about how to proceed forward with my production. I'd highly recommend him for any legal counsel in regards to entertainment, in my case, filmmaking.

If you have the opportunity to work with Audrey you should take it!! She is one of the finest and smartest attorneys I have ever worked with and had my best interest at heart as her client. She always kept me informed, communicated with me, and fought like a pistol for me while always being a professional. Not all attorneys are created equal. When you work with Audrey you will be working with the best. I have found Audrey to be more knowledgeable than attorneys who have practiced law their entire lives. Sometimes she can be curt/blunt - don’t be put off by that. She’s just trying to tell you what’s going. If you need a softer approach let her know and she will adjust. She’s happy to work with her clients. Again, I cannot recommend Audrey enough.

What a Government Lawyer Can Do for You

A government lawyer specializes in legal issues related to government policies, regulations, and disputes involving public entities. Whether you are a private individual, business, or government agency, a government lawyer provides expert guidance on navigating the complexities of government law. These attorneys handle cases ranging from constitutional law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and government contracts to defending or challenging government actions.

Government lawyers help individuals and organizations understand their rights and obligations under the law, represent them in disputes with government agencies, and assist in matters of government contracting, procurement, or public policy.

When Should I Hire a Government Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a government lawyer in several situations involving government regulations, compliance, or disputes. Common reasons to hire a government lawyer include:

  • Government contracts and procurement: If you are bidding for or negotiating a contract with a government agency, a lawyer can help ensure compliance with federal, state, or local contracting rules.
  • Regulatory compliance: Businesses operating in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, environmental sectors) often need legal guidance to comply with government regulations and avoid penalties.
  • Government investigations: If you're being investigated by a government agency such as the IRS, SEC, or EPA, a government lawyer can help defend you against allegations or negotiate settlements.
  • Challenging government actions: If a government agency has denied a permit, license, or benefit, a lawyer can help you appeal or challenge the decision in court.
  • Constitutional and civil rights issues: If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated by a government entity, such as in cases involving free speech or discrimination, a government lawyer can help you seek justice.
  • Public policy or lobbying efforts: If you are involved in lobbying or advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or federal level, a government lawyer can provide legal advice on compliance with lobbying laws and strategies for effective advocacy.

Hiring a government lawyer early in the process can help you navigate complex legal frameworks and avoid costly mistakes when dealing with government-related legal issues.

What Does a Government Lawyer Do?

A government lawyer provides a wide range of services that cover interactions between individuals, businesses, and government entities. They can:

  • Assist with government contracts: Helping clients navigate procurement laws, drafting contracts, and resolving disputes related to government contracting.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice: Offering guidance on meeting regulatory requirements for industries subject to federal, state, or local laws.
  • Handle administrative law matters: Representing clients before government agencies, such as appealing administrative decisions, applying for permits, or defending against regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Challenge or defend government actions: Representing clients in lawsuits involving government agencies, including constitutional challenges, civil rights violations, or disputes over government decisions.
  • Negotiate settlements with government entities: If a government agency is pursuing legal action against you or your business, a lawyer can negotiate settlements to avoid costly litigation.
  • Advocate for policy changes: Advising clients on legal strategies for influencing public policy, including lobbying and drafting legislation.
  • Litigate constitutional issues: Handling cases related to the Constitution, such as First Amendment rights, due process violations, or unlawful government actions.

How Are Government Lawyers Paid?

Government lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: For ongoing legal matters, such as regulatory compliance or government contract disputes, lawyers may charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as drafting a government contract or filing an administrative appeal, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For clients who need ongoing legal support, such as businesses frequently interacting with government agencies, a lawyer may charge a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases involving litigation, such as civil rights violations, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Government Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a government lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the lawyer's experience, and their fee structure. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Hourly rates: Government lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For specific legal services, such as drafting a government contract, flat fees can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the nature of the service.
  • Retainer fees: A retainer for ongoing legal work with government agencies can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the scope and frequency of the work.
  • Contingency fees: In cases where a lawyer works on contingency, their fee is usually a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or damages awarded if the case is successful.

Be sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your consultation to ensure that you understand the fees associated with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Government Lawyer

When hiring a government lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed for your specific situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What is your experience with government law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has substantial experience in handling cases or issues involving government agencies, regulatory compliance, or constitutional law.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services - whether by the hour, flat fee, retainer, or contingency fee - and request an estimate of costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your legal options and the likelihood of success based on your specific situation.
  4. How do you handle interactions with government agencies?
Ask about their approach to dealing with government entities and their experience with specific agencies relevant to your case (e.g., IRS, EPA, SEC).
  5. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Ask about their experience with similar cases and whether they have achieved favorable outcomes in the past.
  6. Who will handle my case?
Clarify whether the lawyer you are meeting with will personally handle your case or whether junior attorneys or paralegals will do most of the work.

How to Check the Credibility of a Government Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable government lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Review their professional experience: Look for specific experience in government-related legal issues, such as regulatory compliance, government contracts, or administrative law, on their website or professional profile.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s reputation and track record.
  • Ask for references: Request references from previous clients who have worked with the lawyer on government-related matters to understand their experience and effectiveness.
  • Check for membership in relevant organizations: Look for memberships in professional organizations such as the American Bar Association's Administrative Law Section or the National Institute of Government Procurement, which can indicate the lawyer’s focus on government law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a government lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed description of your legal issue: Be prepared to explain your situation, whether it’s a regulatory compliance question, a government contract issue, or a dispute with a government agency.
  • Relevant documents: Bring any paperwork related to your case, such as contracts, permits, letters from government agencies, or notices of investigation.
  • A list of questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, including the legal process, potential outcomes, and costs.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any relevant events, such as the issuance of government orders or interactions with government agencies.
  • Goals for the outcome: Be ready to discuss what you hope to achieve, whether it’s a favorable settlement, regulatory compliance, or overturning a government decision.

By being organized and prepared, you can help your lawyer understand your situation more quickly and give you the best legal advice moving forward.
