I called Mr. Cimino looking to see if he handles traffic tickets out of a nearby city. He took the time to listen to what was going on and explained that he doesn't normally handle this type of a case. He provided some awesome information and took the time to explain things to me. I feel it is important to rate the attorney for taking time out of his day to answer a few questions and give me some advice on best ways to look for help. He even offered if I didn't find someone to call him back.

Incredibly intelligent and experienced. Mr. Cimino knew my personal injury case inside and out and provided me with reassurance and he delivered. I recommend him to any injured person. There wasn't any gimmick or hidden issues. Mr. Cimino was straight forward, provided me with options, and kept me in the loop with every aspect of my case.

Marc was very well informed of the case law and extremely well prepared when we went in front of the administrative judge. He did such a great job in his presentation, the judge found in my favor. I will be recommending him to anyone that needs help with their Loan Origination License.

Fantastic lawyer, fantastic person! He went to bat for me. He didn't negotiate, he stood up for me against the Texas Board of Nursing. After 15 months of the TBON painful proposals with another lawyer, I changed to Marc Meyer as my representative. He was my trial lawyer. I never even went to trial! Within 3 months of communication between Marc and the BON, the BON closed the case and shredded the file!! That was more than I was even asking. The Grace of God and Marc Meyer saved my license against a very serious wrongful act done by the public. More Nurses need an advocate like Marc. Very pleased with him and the outcome.

Very informative. Yolanda gave me plenty of information to move forward with given my particular situation, and even recommended attorneys specializing in my type of case. Phone consult was only $85 and well worth the money. I have email after email of information from her regarding my charge/ conviction and what to expect in the near future. Very polite, professional, and understanding. Would highly recommend. 5 stars.

I hired Yolanda Torres, Esq. to represent my girlfriend for her parole hearing before the BPP for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Ms. Torres is one of the best parole attorneys in Texas who does more than throw together a “parole pack” like so many parole attorneys do. I took the time to talk with several parole attorneys, checking their background and professionalism, and even visiting them before I hired Ms. Torres. She is an advocate who specializes in prisoner civil rights and litigation, in addition representing parole and revocation matters. We wanted an attorney who would give my girlfriend the best chance of coming home on parole. Ms. Torres reviewed the entire picture for my girlfriend, criminal records, her activities in prison, including behavior, discipline and education, and made a recommendation of what we could expect. Ms. Torres worked closely with my girlfriend, kept me and her family informed of her progress and had a meeting with the BPP members. Ms. Torres is an excellent attorney and I cannot say enough about what she did for us. It helped that my girlfriend was a model prisoner, doing all she could to better herself and make sure that she was ready to come home to have a good life. She took all the self-help and development courses she could, as well as education programs that should help her get a good job. Ms. Torres made sure that everything was done right, support letters, interviews, meeting and really advocated for my girlfriend. . The final result is that my girlfriend was granted parole by the BPP and will soon be released from prison. I am sure that without her, my girlfriend would still be in prison and wondering what more she could do herself. I high recommend Ms. Torres to anyone who has problems with prison officials, or want to give someone they love the best chance of being released on parole. Ms. Torres was worth every penny we paid for her legal services.

I contacted Ms. Torres when my son, who is in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, was the victim of a prison guard who wrote a trumped up disciplinary case against him. The case caused my son to lose his parole release date. Ms. Torres not only had the disciplinary conviction reversed and removed from my son's record, she worked with the parole authorities to have his parole release date reinstated and have my son released from prison. She continued to follow up on the case until my son was actually released and walked out of prison. Without her, my son would still be in prison and have that disciplinary case on his record!! I recommend Ms. Torres to anyone who is having any problems with prison officials or inside of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Due to a wild past, I was assumed guilty from the moment I showed my drivers license. Over a span of 30 years I had accrued 3 convictions for possession of a controlled substance, and served 3 prison terms in Texas already for the exact same controlled substance that I found myself charged with last year. The police, once they ran my record, impounded the car so they could search at leisure. They found a baggie of residue dropped by my passenger as I was being arrested for no insurance. They let him walk away, unquestioned, unsearched. The gears turned: Once guilty, always guilty... but 3 times convicted and sentenced? Well, lets just say they were enthusiastic. They "confused" where they found it, making it look worse. One "claimed" he witnessed "tracks" on my arms. The Grand Jury indicted. The D.A. enhanced 0.1 gram to a 3rd degree TDC felony, filing: 'Habitual'. It looked so bad that some big name local lawyers wanted $10,000 just to plea bargain the case. I had heard of an ex Prosecutor who was extremely good at finding fault in police procedure: "Bill Wirskye". I found his website, and articles on-line about him. I read that he was an expert at many aspects of law. He seemed to have talents, skill, and knowledge in layers. I met with him on a Saturday. Typical of what I came to know and admire as his style and demeanor, he said little, made no promises, and said one particular thing that was opposite from all the others I'd spoken with, which was: "Well, I believe you are in a whole lot less trouble than you think." I asked about my odds for dismissal on grounds of illegal search. He was non-committal, and completely honest. He said: "I don't know, but if there was any violation of your rights, or police procedure, I will sniff it out. I asked about his fee. He gave me the lowest figure I had heard yet, apart from the "mail fliers" that follow an arrest like buzzards offering: "$500 plea bargains - COME ON DOWN!" I only had $300 to offer as a retainer. Bill Wirskye took the case, and if I had only known what I know now, I would have quit worrying right then and there, but instead, I began to spiral into depression and anxiety. Mr Wirskye made an excellent 'babysitter' during those months. Telling me to be patient, and calm, that time was our ally. I was anything but calm. I developed a skin inflammation at my ears, and one anxiety-ridden morning on the way to court I scratched my ear until I bled all over my suit and tie. I told Mr Wirskye I was going to be late. He told me not to worry, he had already been and reset the date in my absence. 15 months later, the case was "Dismissed in the interest of Justice". Mr Wirskye casually text'd the news to me using about 5 words... characteristic of himself. By the time this was done, Mr. Wirskye had such a list of errors, "inconsistencies", illegal pretenses and procedures by the arresting officers in Irving that had the D.A.'s office not conceded when they did, I have no doubt that by the time he was finished the arresting officer would have feared jail himself. "The pretense of doing an impound inventory in order to search was illegal", "leaving the passenger in the car unattended for far too long during my arrest was improper", I had told the officer he could search me for weapons but declined to let him dig in my pockets, "the subsequent search became a possible civil rights violation". "the film footage of the arrest clearly contradicted the police report concerning the location of the substance"... Mr Wirskye had so many layers of armor around me that if they'd tried to get my case into court it would have been like peeling an onion trying to remove them all, & as the year had passed I'd become aware that this man would win any case he saw fit, if not one way, then another. He is a brilliant Attorney, with integrity, compassion, charity, and dignity, and I could not have asked for more. In the end, he gave me a break on the fee... almost 50%

I was looking for an attorney and overheard someone mention his name. I asked for references and found out very quickly that Barnett wins, and he wins a lot. He met with me and my mother and explained the entire process to us. He told us he could not guarantee how the case would turn out but that he could promise that he would treat my case the way he would want me to treat his case if our roles were reversed. We hired him and we won. Thank you Barnett.

I have no experience with Barnett outside what I witnessed during my fathers trial in which he was accused of very haineous allegations. While watching Barnett in the court room, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he was dedicated to justice and would stop at nothing to see it served. His presence in the court room is very strong and he conducts himself with the utmost respect for the courts. On a personal level, Barnett has a great sense of humor and has a way of making his clients and their family feel confident and comfortable through such an emotionally draining time. I would recommend Barnett Walker with unequivolcal certainty for anyone seeking solid defense representation.

A bit of background - not to boast, just saying ... I am from Canada and older, so I know quite a bit about America. As well, I have a college degree. So ... I thought when completing the online questions applying for citizenship, that I responded clearly (and honestly, etc.). I took my copy to Iglesias Law just to make sure (because confusion on an application is not what you want). David Iglesias was personable and open (only time we met) while we visited, before meeting Sonia Jurado, who was to advise me. Although my effort was 'good enough', Sonia noticed a couple of changes that made it perfect. As well, she provided tips and info on what to add in terms of community participation and 'really living here' proof. My application was received by Immigration on Oct. 14; I had an in-person interview on Dec. 4! (Your mileage may vary.) My USCIS notice/invitation for the swearing-in ceremony is apparently in the mail already. Whoo-hoo! My Iglesias Law consultation was comfortable, easy, useful, and worth it, worth it. Thanks so much for having your expertise, and helping me be less anxious about the outcome.

As the in-house attorney for my company, Mr. Kopf was always there for whatever we needed, whenever we needed it. As an all female firm, we very much appreciated his lack of condescension in all matters, legal and generally business related. That has been quite a few years ago, but I'm certain he is the same moral, ethical, kind and responsive attorney he was then. You would be fortunate to take advantage of this man's knowledge and scruples.

What a Government Lawyer Can Do for You

A government lawyer specializes in legal issues related to government policies, regulations, and disputes involving public entities. Whether you are a private individual, business, or government agency, a government lawyer provides expert guidance on navigating the complexities of government law. These attorneys handle cases ranging from constitutional law, administrative law, regulatory compliance, and government contracts to defending or challenging government actions.

Government lawyers help individuals and organizations understand their rights and obligations under the law, represent them in disputes with government agencies, and assist in matters of government contracting, procurement, or public policy.

When Should I Hire a Government Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a government lawyer in several situations involving government regulations, compliance, or disputes. Common reasons to hire a government lawyer include:

  • Government contracts and procurement: If you are bidding for or negotiating a contract with a government agency, a lawyer can help ensure compliance with federal, state, or local contracting rules.
  • Regulatory compliance: Businesses operating in highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance, environmental sectors) often need legal guidance to comply with government regulations and avoid penalties.
  • Government investigations: If you're being investigated by a government agency such as the IRS, SEC, or EPA, a government lawyer can help defend you against allegations or negotiate settlements.
  • Challenging government actions: If a government agency has denied a permit, license, or benefit, a lawyer can help you appeal or challenge the decision in court.
  • Constitutional and civil rights issues: If you believe your constitutional rights have been violated by a government entity, such as in cases involving free speech or discrimination, a government lawyer can help you seek justice.
  • Public policy or lobbying efforts: If you are involved in lobbying or advocating for policy changes at the local, state, or federal level, a government lawyer can provide legal advice on compliance with lobbying laws and strategies for effective advocacy.

Hiring a government lawyer early in the process can help you navigate complex legal frameworks and avoid costly mistakes when dealing with government-related legal issues.

What Does a Government Lawyer Do?

A government lawyer provides a wide range of services that cover interactions between individuals, businesses, and government entities. They can:

  • Assist with government contracts: Helping clients navigate procurement laws, drafting contracts, and resolving disputes related to government contracting.
  • Provide regulatory compliance advice: Offering guidance on meeting regulatory requirements for industries subject to federal, state, or local laws.
  • Handle administrative law matters: Representing clients before government agencies, such as appealing administrative decisions, applying for permits, or defending against regulatory enforcement actions.
  • Challenge or defend government actions: Representing clients in lawsuits involving government agencies, including constitutional challenges, civil rights violations, or disputes over government decisions.
  • Negotiate settlements with government entities: If a government agency is pursuing legal action against you or your business, a lawyer can negotiate settlements to avoid costly litigation.
  • Advocate for policy changes: Advising clients on legal strategies for influencing public policy, including lobbying and drafting legislation.
  • Litigate constitutional issues: Handling cases related to the Constitution, such as First Amendment rights, due process violations, or unlawful government actions.

How Are Government Lawyers Paid?

Government lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: For ongoing legal matters, such as regulatory compliance or government contract disputes, lawyers may charge by the hour. Hourly rates can vary depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as drafting a government contract or filing an administrative appeal, some lawyers charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: For clients who need ongoing legal support, such as businesses frequently interacting with government agencies, a lawyer may charge a retainer fee. This is an upfront payment that covers future legal services.
  • Contingency fee: In some cases involving litigation, such as civil rights violations, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if they win or settle the case.

It’s important to discuss fee structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Government Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a government lawyer depends on the complexity of the legal issue, the lawyer's experience, and their fee structure. Here are some general cost estimates:

  • Hourly rates: Government lawyers typically charge between $150 and $500 per hour, depending on their experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Flat fees: For specific legal services, such as drafting a government contract, flat fees can range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the nature of the service.
  • Retainer fees: A retainer for ongoing legal work with government agencies can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the scope and frequency of the work.
  • Contingency fees: In cases where a lawyer works on contingency, their fee is usually a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or damages awarded if the case is successful.

Be sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your consultation to ensure that you understand the fees associated with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Government Lawyer

When hiring a government lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure they have the experience and skills needed for your specific situation. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What is your experience with government law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has substantial experience in handling cases or issues involving government agencies, regulatory compliance, or constitutional law.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Ask how the lawyer charges for their services - whether by the hour, flat fee, retainer, or contingency fee - and request an estimate of costs.
  3. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your legal options and the likelihood of success based on your specific situation.
  4. How do you handle interactions with government agencies?
Ask about their approach to dealing with government entities and their experience with specific agencies relevant to your case (e.g., IRS, EPA, SEC).
  5. Have you handled cases like mine before?
Ask about their experience with similar cases and whether they have achieved favorable outcomes in the past.
  6. Who will handle my case?
Clarify whether the lawyer you are meeting with will personally handle your case or whether junior attorneys or paralegals will do most of the work.

How to Check the Credibility of a Government Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable government lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and reputation:

  • Check state bar association records: Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice in your state and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Review their professional experience: Look for specific experience in government-related legal issues, such as regulatory compliance, government contracts, or administrative law, on their website or professional profile.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check online reviews and ratings on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s reputation and track record.
  • Ask for references: Request references from previous clients who have worked with the lawyer on government-related matters to understand their experience and effectiveness.
  • Check for membership in relevant organizations: Look for memberships in professional organizations such as the American Bar Association's Administrative Law Section or the National Institute of Government Procurement, which can indicate the lawyer’s focus on government law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a government lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant information and documents. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Detailed description of your legal issue: Be prepared to explain your situation, whether it’s a regulatory compliance question, a government contract issue, or a dispute with a government agency.
  • Relevant documents: Bring any paperwork related to your case, such as contracts, permits, letters from government agencies, or notices of investigation.
  • A list of questions: Write down any questions you have about your case, including the legal process, potential outcomes, and costs.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any relevant events, such as the issuance of government orders or interactions with government agencies.
  • Goals for the outcome: Be ready to discuss what you hope to achieve, whether it’s a favorable settlement, regulatory compliance, or overturning a government decision.

By being organized and prepared, you can help your lawyer understand your situation more quickly and give you the best legal advice moving forward.
