I recently worked with Anna from Okhovat Law, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Anna was professional, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated to my case. They explained every step clearly and made the whole process manageable. What stood out was Anna's genuine care and empathy. She listened to my concerns, answered all my questions, and kept me informed throughout. Her communication was prompt and transparent, which really put me at ease. Thanks to Anna's hard work, I received a settlement that exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Okhovat Law for anyone in need of a personal injury lawyer. They are exceptional and will ensure you receive the justice and compensation you deserve.

One of the best decisions I’ve made in this lifetime was to trust Lewis and Farrar! They are amazing took care of everything for me even had someone drive me to the doctor and wait. They handle everything so you don’t have to stress always just a text or phone call away. They also have an AMAZING team working for them! Chris was the sweetest most professional & caring case manager you could ever hope for! Trust them to get you the best possible settlement. They took care of two accidents for me and although the accidents were unfortunate I was still fortunate to have met them! They turned a bad accident into something positive for me! Definitely choose Lewis and Farrar over anyone else!

I hired Mr. Nelson right after he told me I could file for an adjustment of status during the same month I was notified of being selected for further processing for a diversity visa, also commonly known as green card lottery. I signed a retainer that described the filing of adjustment of status and paid half of the retainer. Shortly after, I realized something was wrong. The only email communication I got from Mr. Nelson was "we can file right away" which happened after what was advertised as a free phone consultation. After that email only the paralegal Tonette started communicating with me and she simply emailed the forms I already downloaded online on my own and asked me to translate in English my birth certificate and provided me with the contact info of a very pricey notarized translation agency. I started talking with a pro bono attorney and ended up consulting with more attorneys and everyone at that point told me to run as fast as I could. Not only my birth certificate was already in English (proof that my documents were not even carefully reviewed) but also the regulations of adjusting status in the US through the diversity visa clearly state that adjustment cannot be filed before the fiscal year starts which cant be October 1st. So I could not file in May as Mr. Nelson falsely promised. Mr. Nelson said that my Visa lottery number was a very low number and therefore I could file in May instead of October but that is simply a lie. Any immigration attorney who knows the laws and regulations can confirm that. The other attorney I consulted with told me clearly that Nelson would have jeopardized my chances to get my adjustment approved if he sent my application in May. Another issue that came up was the fact that no adjustment of status could have ever been filed unless my student Visa was kept alive and in active status, obviously. If there is no status, no adjustment of status can be processed. When I brought up the topic to Mr.Nelson he said that keeping my F1 Visa valid and in status was not part of the agreement and was not in fact included in the agreement and in the amount of money included in the retainer. After complaining a lot, he emailed back saying that he constructed my email as an indication to stop working on my case, except he never started working on it, at all. Nothing was done other than the paralegal sending me the forms to fill out on my own and telling to translate my birth certificate which was already in English, and even if it wasn't translate in English all it needed was a simple free declaration from a friend speaking the language, no certified nor notary service was necessary to translate a birth certificate for adjustment of status. I was left with absolutely nothing in the worst situation possible and Mr. Nelson did nothing described in the agreement I signed. I asked for money back in every possible thinkable way. I even filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the complaint is now public record available on the BBB website and the case is #411053 under the BBB of the Counties of Los Angeles, Santa Clara, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and Monterey. Mr. Nelson replied that he worked a lot on my case and he deserved half of the retainer, which is a fat lie. He also said that normally he would refund me but due to my behavior he won't but I didn't misbehave with him nor anyone else at his office. He then apologized and admitted I didn't get anything of the things I was supposed to get but still refused to refund me. I filed for free mediation with the Department of Consumer Affairs of Los Angeles but he refused to participate which says a lot about his character. He never presented me with my specific rights to arbitrate the fee and lastly he clearly emailed me that he will never refund unless a court orders him too. I must sue him to get my money back.

I used Nelson & Associates for my difficult case and a series of challenging situations with immigration. Atty. Nelson is very knowledgeable and finally got my case resolved and now I got my GC. His paralegal Tonette was very helpful until the end. She was always on top of my case and always made prompt follow ups with USCIS. She is very particular with details which made dealing with immigration requests easier to answer because there were no surprises. Choosing Nelson and Associates is one of the best decisions I made here in America. Highly recommended!

The USCIS agent we interviewed with mentioned that our attorney did an excellent job organizing our documents and making sure we had everything in order... it made everything happen so smoothly! I recommend Attorney Nelson to anyone seeking advice or even representation going through the immigration process.

Mr. Cueto is truly an excellent attorney! I needed legal assistance on a matter, and I was referred to him by a friend of mine. During the free consultation, he heard me very patiently, answered all my questions, and quoted an extremely reasonable price. I felt confident in his ability to deliver and relied on his 35+ years of experience to see me through a very difficult phase of my life. I now stand on the verge of my case being dismissed, and I can confidently say that I made the right decision! Some of his highlights: 1) He is always very attentive, respectful, and understanding 2) He is prompt at returning emails/calls/texts 3) He prepared well for my case and found a way to get my case dismissed 4) He defended me with aplomb, for which I am very grateful 5) He wouldn’t put undue pressure on me, and kept my anxiety levels low 6) His assistants are very courteous, and learned 7) He is quite well-known by the judges, lawyers, and clerks. When I saw how amicable they were with him, it put my nerves to ease because you need someone who is well liked and respected in the courts to represent you!

Hi everyone. If I want to tell about my experience with Monica honestly word can’t explain how satisfy I’m to her as a lawyer for my immigration case. She help me for my asylum case to be granted and accepted very easy. She help me and Guide me through green card process as well And finally she helped me for my citizenship application as well I had my upcoming interview for citizenship and got some very wrong consultation from other lawyer that they were about the put me in a huge problem. They told me I’m facing a huge problem with my application and I’m going to be interviewed with fraud department and deportation department in my interview. And it won’t be regular interview and since I’m going alone to my interview it is better for me to cancel my interview and ask for a lawyer for my case from uscis I called Monica and she gave a consultation after her working hours since it was after working hour. She gave me 15min consultation that changed all my assumptions and scenarios. She was so confident that she told me that she is expecting my email with good news for my next day interview. She did 15min consultations with worth millions She said just do whatever she says and all will be fine. Next day I went to my interview and with no surprise everything went to the way she said. I got granted for citizenship by her guidance. She is Such a great , knowledgeable, trustworthy, experienced and caring person . She takes care of her clients and care about them in all emergency situations I’m truly blessed to have her as a lawyer. Highly recommend her for any immigration cases. By the way this is not just my experience. We have a big friends community that everyone knows her and everyone has almost same experience with her. I’m not sure if I would’ve listened to the other lawyer what could’ve happened. Thank you so my Monica

In November 2019, I applied for EB-2 National Interest Waiver and in July 2021 I received Notice of Intend of Denial which made clear to me that my lawyer didn't include all the supporting documents and even omitted mistakes in my initial application. I realized that my lawyer ruined my case and that’s why I started to look for a new lawyer and I talked with 6-7 different law firms hoping that there will be a lawyer who can help me. Some of them were unwilling to take my case as they would not be able to help and some of them refused as we had limited time. Before Sidman Law Group I had hired a second lawyer to handle my case but he was not helpful too. I began searching for the best immigration lawyers in LA and Orange County and came across with Sidman Law Group. I called the company and explained my problem to Mr. Bernard Sidman and he immediately showed interest in my case. They gave me a free appointment to discuss my case, and after only 1 hour they were confident my case could be won. I felt that this was the first law firm that truly cared about me, and I felt I could trust them to handle my immigration. Bernard Sidman and Nick Sidman were able to give my family and I hope after it was so close to being lost. We had only 1 month after they took the case. They assembled over 530 pages of supporting documents to respond to the Notice of Intent of Denial with logical and legitimate reasons for any discrepancies. Everything was handled very professionally. We were very glad that we finally found the lawyers who will be there for us every time we need them. My I-140 was approved within 2 months, and my I-765 and I-131 were approved just 2 months later. I could not be more impressed, and grateful about the outcome of my case after working with Nick and Bernard from Sidman Law Group, and I would give them the highest recommendation to anyone struggling with immigration issues.

Grace helped me through a few difficult challenges of my life. I was totally disheartened and depressed with the way things were going, until I was highly recommended to her office, She immediately was able to meet with me and resolve an automobile accident that I had been involved in. She was on it. A while passed by and then I needed legal help, I remembered her professionalism and gave her a call to consult a different type of case. She once again was available to meet with me in person and the ball began to roll soon after on case #2 family law this time. Her staff is very on point also, answering any questions and concerns. Grace returns calls & emails very promptly, and also tries to get a face to face meeting in a professional time frame. Grace is currently working on another case for me #3 so far so good, she keeps everything very positive. She’s definitely a pleasure to work with.

My experience with this immigration attorney has been extremely disappointing. When I met him for the first time, he said if USCIS allows him, he will come to the interview with me, but unfortunately he didn't. This lack of commitment and representing me on the phone had severe consequences for my case. The officer hanged up on him and didn't approve my case. USCIS asked me for some documents that I didn't know where and how to get them. In respond of my help to get the documents, this attorney simply told me that he can not help and he doesn't know how to solve it. It was the moment I felt vulnerable and not supported. Then I paid another immigration attorney who gave me the answer I was looking for quickly. He seems nice and his price is good, but unfortunately his service is not good enough to help you. I do not recommend him at all.

Jonathan put the anxiety and worries to rest. He very patiently discussed the various issues that may come up at the interview, and also those that would not. With Jonathan's help we were well prepared. Thank you so much for your time, patience, and sharing of insights. This law firm does not see the lawyers themselves at all, they are all Chinese employees (they are not lawyers) handling cases, my child was injured and fractured while going to school at the home of Teacher Chen (Taiwanese women are not teachers pretending to be teachers) in Luogang School District, 06/06/ In 2022, I entrusted Scott Warmuth Law Firm to represent the child's case. At that time, I appointed a lawyer named ERIC JOHNSON (later, I inquired from the California Bar Association that he was qualified as a California lawyer in March 2022). I found it on www.avvo.com The lawyer with the same name who has practiced for more than 20 years thought it was this lawyer and agreed to use this lawyer, but I have never met one person since I entered the law firm, and I have never given any legal advice. It is all Chinese employees who provide legal advice (according to US regulations, non-lawyers are not all provide legal advice), I suspect that the signatures of the contract lawyers are all fake. The child’s treatment has not yet ended, and I have to ask how much the medical expenses will be. In September, I will pay them the medical expenses, and one of their Chinese employees will handle the case. Said that he would not represent my child’s case anymore. Said he sent us a notification letter. My receiving address was normal, but I didn’t receive the letter. Later, I asked him to send an email. I saw that the date was early August, and the signature was signed. The lawyer is not the original lawyer. I don’t know if it was signed by a Chinese employee. I was delayed for a month and I didn’t call to inform me why it was not the same lawyer. The answer is that they have many lawyers! The case can be given to any lawyer, and I have never seen it. Such a bad law firm, everyone looking for a lawyer must see the lawyer himself, don't ask a Chinese manager to handle the case!

I met Natalie on the hallway of he courthouse at one of my lowest points. I had went from a six figure income, to nothing and my spouse of 15 years was trying to stick it to me. She not only took on my case but got me my fair share. Recently she took my case again as he tried to lie, and get out of paying the Alimony. I can’t say enough about Her and the caring profession that she is. I know it was a Devine blessing, and a gift from God that I ran into that day on the hallway crying? and not knowing what to do. Natalie will get the job done. Boots on the Ground. Thank you so much.

I came into contact with Nathalie through her involvement in Step Forward Foundation, a non-profit legal organization serving low income clients with Domestic Violence (DV) issues. In the 22 years that I lived with DV, and for the additional 3 years my husband continued to perpetrate DV against me after our separation, I searched high and low for an agency to help me but was unable, because the form of DV my husband perpetrated against me involved restraining me, shaking me, throwing things at me, threatening me, spitting on me, withholding assets from me, and other actions that didn't involve hitting or leaving physical marks on me that would warrant assistance from police and courts. Finally, I began secretly making videos of his attacks on me and took one of these videos to the Step Forward Foundation, where my appointment was referred to Nathalie. What a God-send that appointment was! Nathalie took my case right away. She not only represented me in the courts, but she provided the validation and support that I needed to begin to re-learn that what I was suffering really was DV, and unacceptable treatment of me - because after 25 years of calling the police and petitioning the courts and getting no assistance, I had come to believe that "maybe it was just me" or "maybe this is just normal." Nathalie's commitment to my case made me feel important again, and I began to grow stronger in my resolve to finally stand up to him. Nathalie won for me a 5 year DV Restraining Order that protects not only me, but also it protects my son until after his 18th birthday. The terms of the Restraining Order require my ex/his dad to go through significant counseling, drug screening and rehabilitation, etc., before he can resume visitation again, and it requires to visitation be supervised. This is an almost unheard of ruling, as most restraining orders are only granted for 1 year and do not prohibit the relationship between parent and child as was needed to also protect my son. After my DVRO was awarded, Nathalie continued on with me and took me as a client in her private practice to ensure that my divorce (pending in the court system and held up by the manipulation and delay tactics of my ex) would be finalized. Prior to Nathalie, no lawyers would take my divorce case. My gross income was too high to receive pro-bono services from non-profit agencies on matters besides the DVRO, but the marriage nor myself personally had any assets or savings to pay the lawyer's retainers and fees. Nathalie demonstrated commitment to ending DV for me once and for all when she reduced her retainer fee and wrote a fee agreement contract with me that allows me to pay her for her services at whatever (reasonable) monthly payments I can afford. Other lawyers refused to represent me unless I could pay $5,000 - $15,000 up front. Nathalie is allowing me to go into debt with her, which I am so grateful for that I feel like I will be indebted to her for the rest of my life - not in a monetary sense, but in the sense that without her help, I may very well have been stuck in my marriage forever, subject to abuse and torment. Nathalie bills reasonably, and doesn't penny-pick every millisecond you are on the phone with her like other lawyers do. She understands financial constraints of her clients and uses her time wisely to avoid over billing them. My case is scheduled for trail in 30 days, and I am so excited about the new life that lies ahead of me. There are some people in your life who serve such a meaningful purpose in transitioning you from one state of being to another. Nathalie is that for me. I will always hold regard for her in my heart and her success, well being, and blessing will for the rest of my life always be a part of my prayers. I ABSOLUTELY recommend her.

I used Mr. Kumar and SkyUsaLaw twice, in 2017 and again in 2023. Both time I had a very positive experience, and both times I obtained my O-1 visa. My 2023 visa was more difficult to obtain, it took much more time and effort. I believe the Immigration just made it tougher to obtain any kind of visa. Communication was good and patience is important, one can't expect to have the visa in weeks. Price are reasonable, compared to other lawyers. If you want to apply for a O-1 visa, I highly recommend Mr.Sunit Kumar.

In my experience, Sunit is unresponsive and unprofessional. I felt as if he gave the bare minimum attention possible to my case. When pushed for any effort - he aggressively screamed at me over the phone. He will do the bare minimum, and will ignore you/refuse to help when your case goes awry. Notice how in previous reviews, there are multiple thumbs up in only the one star reviews. If you care about obtaining your visa - please steer clear from Sunit and his company.

I worked with Angie for several months during my E2 visa process. Angie was nice and helpful during the months of preparation, but at the most critical point, when my E2 was rejected, she left me stranded and she ghosted me when I would have needed the most help. I cannot respect such behavior one bit. She said the assignment was over and did not have time for me. Then she never came back to me. She took zero responsibility in a situation when I had followed her instructions and been rejected. I had to start all over with a different lawyer who then led to success. Because of this, I am writing this review. I don't think anyone deserves to be mistreated after having invested lots of money and time into a process like this. I would never, ever, treat my clients this way. The process ended up costing me about 10k USD in extra costs, in addition to Angie's fees, thanks to misinformation that could have been avoided through better insights. For example, I flew my whole family with babysitters to another country for my application only to learn that it would not have been necessary. Angie was definitely nice and professional all the way until my interview, but leaving someone and ghosting just when it matters most, and taking zero responsibility for the failure is simply not acceptable.

Angie Rupert provided the guidance and support I needed during my E2 Visa application. Angie was great to work with, and was very organized and knowledgeable about the whole process. On multiple occasions during my interviews with the CBP Officers, and Immigration Officer at the US consulate it was commented how orderly my application packet was which made the whole experience a lot less nerve racking. I would definitely recommend contacting Rupert Law Group to discuss your options if you are interested in pursuing an E-Visa into the United States.

Angie is the greatest E2 lawyer I have ever worked with. You absolutely must hire her if you need an immigration lawyer who knows exactly what they're doing and will help you along the way. I am so glad to have met her! She's not your typical attorney who will take your money and do the least amount possible - she will be with you for the whole journey and go above-and-beyond what other lawyers will do for you. I'm extremely happy with Angie and will highly recommend her to anyone in need of an E2 attorney!

We were recommended by my cousin. I'm usually a very skeptical person and like to get things on time, they have a large staff and many people working on my wife case, they are very responsive and Mr. Kumar is a very honest man, he send me the documents on time and give a call and arrange everything by himself. And special thanks for Kristen for the great help. Thank u all :) Strongly recommended ...

His firm on his own withdrew my case without my consent. mind you, i paid the entire amount ahead of time as well. 1st, my case got rejected bcoz of his over smart thinking. And the appeal did not help me either. He withdrew it. Had to look for another attorney to start my case afresh!

Janis is the best! She and her legal assistant, Mari are the most honest and hardworking people when it comes to their clients. Janis let us know exactly what we were dealing with when it came to our immigration case (F-1 Visa) and she allowed payment plans. She and Mari are very honest and they were on top of things the entire way. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an Immigration Attorney. Also, even tho my case has been finished for over a year, Janis and Mari still answer my questions when I call and Janis replies to my emails each time. They aren't out to take people's money, they're there to help and better lives. Love them!

Janis was a Godsend when my husband and I were in the final processing steps to get his waiver approved or denied. She knew exactly what we needed to get it approved and did not hesitate one bit in requesting that from us. Janis guided me in obtaining the necessary documents and followed through in receiving an approval on my husband's waiver. I will be forever thankful to Janis because I know that without her help my husband would not be with us today.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
