Just keep looking for someone else to help you. This isn’t it. I was very unhappy with their service. Every single time I called them they said that whoever was working my case was busy. I never spoke with my lawyer once, i only spoke with her assistants when they finally called me back after weeks of pestering them for a simple update on my case. They took over a year to get me my money and they were NOT agressive enough with the insurance company. They say they treat you like family but never get back to you unless you basically yell at the poor receptionist you speak with. Seriously, just look for someone else to help you!

I had a very upsetting experience with this law firm and would not recommend them. They were very difficult to communicate with, and I felt like they were not very competent. I was involved in an immigration case that dragged on for several years. A friend recommended Timothy Hart's law firm, and I hired them. My first meeting with went well.. Timothy seemed nice and knowledgeable. But after that, trying to work and communicate with the office was very stressful. When I would call the office and leave messages, I would rarely get a call back. If I did, it was several days later. There was a time where I had a deadline coming up and needed to speak with the office, and both my mother and I called the office about 30 times over a period of 2 weeks before I was able to speak to someone about my case. Trying to schedule a meeting with my assigned lawyer would take several weeks, and would require a long wait in their crowded waiting room. When I moved out-of-state, I tried to schedule phone meetings with my lawyer. I was told that phone meetings were impossible and I'd have to come to the office in person. The poor communication made the stressful situation of being in a litigation even more stressful. When my first assigned lawyer showed up to one of the pre-hearings for my case, he was two-and-a-half hours late. When he arrived, he asked me questions about my case that gave me the impression that he didn't really know anything about it. It made me feel very worried. I made an appointment with Timothy at one point to vent my frustrations about working with the firm, and he seemed to accept the criticism, but the communication issues continued. At one point I needed to renew my I-94 at the customs office in Houston, but I was living out of state. I asked the second lawyer assigned to me if she could renew the document in person for me, and she agreed to do it for about $400. She tried going to the customs office twice when they were closed because she did not know their hours. The 3rd time, she was able to renew the document. Timothy tried to charge me the $400 fee three times because she made 3 trips, and I had to argue with them that it wasn't fair... she made a mistake and didn't look up the customs office's hours of operation in advance. Finally, I ended up hiring a new lawyer. I asked for a refund from this firm. I also asked for them to give me copies of all my paperwork, which they are required to do by law. They did not respond. I ended up having to file a complaint with the State Bar of Texas, who contacted Law Office of Timothy S. Hart, after which they gave me copies of my paperwork and a refund of 10% of the flat fee I had paid them. It was a very frustrating experience, and I would not recommend this firm to anyone

I totally lost my trust in him. Needless to say much, he charges lots of money for nothing, and he will abuse his client by catching him from the arm that hurts to get his benefits... Mr. Mark extremely knowledgable immigration lawyer at affordable price. What you need to know about him is he will not respond to you fast so does other lawyers unless they charge you ridiculuose amount for every minute they spent on your case. Have to mention it took me time and effort working with him but what need to be considered is immigration is hot topics in USA and lawyers get overloaded and have luxury of selection and obviously use advantage. Mark on the other hand had spent counless hours with me face to face while was always struggle to reach him over phone or email and asked no extra payment. If you decide to work with Mark keep in mind your personal input should compensate affordable price. If looking for convenient pay and forget type of lawyer be ready to spend at least three times as much. My personal opinion the way he works keeps him affordable. My NIW case was success but would I listen to Mark at start it would take significantly less time to conclude my case.

I engaged Mr. Harington's services over a year ago and after the initial consultation and an e-mail with some instructions he simply disappeared. Does not answer phone, reply to e-mails. The only reason I believe he is still alive is because his mailbox, which is full and cannot accept new messages all the time, gets emptied and accepts new messages on Mondays.

Not recommend, My experience in dealing with this firm the sence 2019 is they have one managing partner that has become incapable of being upfront with basic cost and adds unnecessary charges. When I first hired this firm cost was upfront and fair. As of late when they say a dollar they charge 2 dollars. Dealing with this managing partner I have found him to be unprofessional and agrumentivite when asked about cost or copies of documents that have been paid for.

I would not recommend Nile Bailey Copeland to represent anyone as legal counsel. We were childhood friends and recently connected via Facebook and attended a Rotary Meeting together. I reached out to him for advice on my pending divorce initiated by my now ex-wife, asking him for advice on who would be a great divorce attorney. He recommended himself because he was a past judge and knew people that could help with the process. I was impressed with the fact that he was a past judge and thought he would be a good choice. He managed to schedule a mediation meeting with another former judge that was married to one of his judge friends. During the mediation process Mr. Copeland seemed to do more negotiating against me then actually fighting for my side of the settlement. At one point during the process he was recommending a personal friend to refinance my home. I thought this was a conflict of interest at the time but I did not say anything because no one wants to upset the person that is legally representing you. I did sign the mediation document but felt it was my only recourse to settle the divorce. While waiting for the Final Divorce Decree to be submitted for my signature I noticed that the decree did not match the Mediation Document. I asked Mr. Copeland on several occasions if he and the other lawyer could make both documents match he said he would review the documents and contact the other lawyer. I waited patiently for him to work on getting the documents completed but I never received a response. After a month a friend checked online and found out that my case goes to court next week. I contacted Mr. Copland and he was unaware. I also informed him that the Final Divorce Decree still did not match the Mediation Settlement Agreement. He said that again he will contact the opposing counsel and get it corrected. The court hearing was for the judge to enforce the Mediation Settlement Agreement but I thought I still had to sign the Final Divorce Decree before the divorce would be final. A month later I received a text from my ex-wife saying the divorce was finalized 30 days ago and she wanted her money. I again contacted Mr. Copeland to find out the details and he looked up the case and confirmed what my ex had stated. I asked to see the Final Decree which he had to look up and send to me. I again pointed out that the Final Decree and the Mediation Agreement do not match. He said he would reach out to the other lawyer and see what the issue was, but in the meantime he "no longer represents me", because it was a stipulation in the final decree signed by the judge. I then asked Mr. Copeland to send me my final bill and hopefully I would receive some of my retainer back to help offset some of the divorce expenses. He said he would take care of it that week. I waited a week and asked again and he said he would send an email. It has been over a month and I still have not received a bill or a refund. In my honest opinion I the Nile Copeland over promised and under delivered in my divorce case. He got in over his head and was to proud to admit he wasn’t equipped to handle a divorce. He did a poor job of representing me as his client and didn’t have the resources to monitor court information or keep me updated on the progress of my case. Not sure how he does with other clients and I am not sure he has a client base in reviewing his online profiles. I am worried if he is elected as a Judge in Harris County again.

I'm so sorry I hired Mr. Yuen to my immigration case. I don't know if his office is always super busy or what, but getting to talk to him is almost impossible, I was trying to get a Religious visa and we started the process, paying a retainer, so he took over 3 months to just prepare the case for filing, then I consulted about Legal Certification and he said it was better than the R to me, WHY he didn't mention that at the beginning? Then he said 10,000 for the PERM, but then changed it to 12,000, then I had concerns about the sponsors, and he was't willing to give legal advise on that matter if I didn't paid the retainer in full. I mean, this man is all about money and not about people. He calls himself a Christian but acts as a greedy person. He kept the full retainer from the R case even though he never filed it after I asked for the PERM. He has been always very moody and talk as he is angry all the time, his reply after I asked to consider returning at least partially the retainer (He had agreed to credit $900 out of $1600 retainer towards the PERM, but then when after several weeks of waiting for them to start working, I decided to not continuing with his legal service, he said that he wasn't givint the $900 if I'm not doing the PERM with him).... And his answer when I asked to reconsider was literally this: 1. THERE IS NO REFUND FOR WE COMPLETED THE WORK, WAITING TO BE SIGNED AND SUBMIT; 2. THE CONTRACT STATED CLEARLY THAT THERE IS NO REFUND; 3. WE GIVE CRDIT OF $900 TO HELP FOR TRANSFERRING THE CASE TO LABOR CERTIFICATION WHICH COSTS MORE. NOW THE CLIENT WANT TO STOP BOTH, SO WE GO BACK TO GROUND ONE OF R VISA WHICH HAS NO REFUND. XENOS YUEN, ATTORNEY So this man is slow, very moody and all about money. Think it twice if you're hiring him for anything. I feel bad for their assistants. It mus be really hard do go to work everyday with a boss like this. If he treats like that to clients, I wonder how he treats his personnel.

There are three things I was looking for to hire an attorney. I want him to be knowledgeable, responsible and trustworthy . After a long research, I found Mr. Yuen and his Law Firm. Mr. Yuen was able to guide me in the process of building a strong application to obtain my labor certification with excellent results. Today I finally went to his office to obtain my green card!! Seriously, if you want to understand the immigration process and obtain good result you must visit Mr. Yuen.

A friend recommended me Mr. Sanchez. Unfortunately I had different experience with him then she had. The most uninformed lawyer I have come across. He is only interested in taking your money and does not know about the case, or the law related to the case. Even when asked about what to do next, he does not have the answers. Too bad I was late to research about him, asked three other people who have been his clients, and all three people have had the same experience. He screwed up my case by making a mistake which I should have requested my money back. What the hack have I payed for?! Please save your money and go to a better attorney for immigration matters. He has no experience, no interest in the individual clients or their classes. Test it: Next time when you go to him ask him a question or two about your case. He will give you a round about answer about the process but he will have no idea what your individual case is about. Bad lawyer. Will not recommend him to anyone.

I hired this attorney for a petition case for my husband, on March 2018, I left a review on google about not being pleased with one of the paralegals who was very irresponsible in losing the information I filled out for DS-260 form. Due to the fact that I submitted said review, I am no longer being represented by Iris Juarbe, and nobody cared to let me know about this. I came in the office today to find the same paralegal tell me this in a very rude manner and that I got what I paid for. Needless to say, this was extremely unprofessional behavior

Stay away from this so called lawyer. To begin with you will never see her unless you demand to speak to her. You will always get her assistant Maryann who is beyond rude! She also will not fill out the immigration applications her own she has her assistant fill them out who will constantly make mistakes and you are the one suffering the consequences. She realized she made huge mistake with my case and she has not done much to fix this. Just stay away! I've gone through so much stress and tears because of how much damage she caused my immigration case.

I had an interview with her and told her as much as I knew about my girlfriends history. She explained the laws in a good and understandable language. She told me that because my girlfriend has a deportation there is no way that she could adjust her status in the US. That was my big question. She gave me other options to consider. I appreciated the explanation instead of just asking for money and later telling me another story. Robert

Worse experience I’ve ever had going to court although this was my very first time dealing with the court system my “Lawyer” didn’t make it easy at all. No communication, coming into court thinking my child’s father and his girlfriend was me and my husband. I feel as if he did help me at all with my case he never tried to understand my situation and honestly I felt as if he did put in any effort. After I left court Aug 16th I never heard nor seen this guy again he has all my paper work I’ve called texted and emailed this guy no response! Just heads up family court isn’t this guys thing he will show up but won’t defend you!

Nichole is the worst lawyer I have ever come across. She’s lazy and unorganized. Showed up to all of my court dates and mediation late. She was MIA for three months. Never could get a phone call or email returned. I fired her and found a new lawyer who was absolutely amazing. I wouldn’t recommend her to my worst enemy.

Don't deal with this firm. I was impressed with the way they held my hand and helped me get my case approved 15 years ago. I made a mistake by giving them the job of applying H1B for my employee. I had practically everything. The staff is very rude. Jerry Zhang is not even in USA. We had to call several times to get the job done. He should be paying money to us. They just send you a DIY template and we have to work on it. They don't offer any help. They are in the business of just charging money. Don't waste your time by dealing with them. I am a successful businessman take my advise. I've seen how success has hit this company. They don't care for customers any more like they used to. They offer "0" support and no customer service plus they are all very rude. The attorney I was dealing with yelled at me several times. Their team is in China, they just outsource everything.

Gave her 2, just to be little fair. She was professional, kind, and approachable during our 1st meeting. However, something happened personally on her, as she called me during Summer 2015 explaining the reason for her not responding back was because of medical that is too personal for me to share, so I feel bad seeing negative comments about her, but I don't know the entire history and story of her other client's situations. I just realized, getting back on her page seems like I am not alone having this issue about her. I hope Atty. Christina will be better...

I hired this lawyer to obtain a work visa and green card back in Oct 2014. I heard from her around December 2014 in an email, then not again till the beginning of April 2015. I sent her countless emails to all three of her emails, I phoned and left message after message on her cel and office phone, I sent text after text. I still have not heard from her. I have not received a single invoice or receipt outlining the work, if any, that she's done. This lawyer has taken my money and disappeared.

You would think that coming off a 2 year probation case for professional misconduct, that Mr. Southerlands 'T's would be crossed and 'I's dotted. For the past 6 months +, Mr. Southerland on 11 separate occassions, has himself given self imposed deadlines to file a claim on my behalf. Every time without exception, nothing has been done. I relied upon his promises to map my next employment moves. Excuses abound. Lies are prevalent, BUT, you will find him on Twitter and LinkedIn nightly. I take this review seriously and it breaks my heart to even leave this review. Alf has literally caused enormous mental anguish & expense by his lacksidasical and unethical false claims of relief. What has happened to you Alfred?

Alf was hired for as employment attorney to review a separation agreement and negotiate with former Company. He was very prompt in the beginning and very personable. We felt confident in his ability to get the job done, but after payment was sent to Alf things changed. We went an entire month without hearing from him and deadlines were missed. Since this was right in the middle of COVID we thought maybe he was sick with COVID? Please note, as far as we could tell, there is no one assisting him. The answering service provided no insight or help, and after getting the same lady over and over again, we got the sense that she was used to taking lots of phone calls like ours. All she could/would say is to send Alf an email. Once we finally got in touch with Alf, he said he was having back problems, apologized and we thought we were finally on track. Then, he goes silent again. No responses. Voicemail is full. We're months into this saga with no resolve and still have the pending issue with the employer. We feel obligated to make sure this doesn't happen to others who need help, so we wanted to share our experience.

I hired her bc I had to get a lawyer quick due to my conditions w/the judge. I only hired her bc she was cheaper than most, & accepted a payment plan. (I truly didn’t look into too many lawyers until landing on her, tbh) The 1 star I suppose can go towards her being chill w/payments. Other than that, you get what you pay for. She was unprofessional, all over the place, lazy, reset my case for over a year, & always showed up hella late. I was always the last one in court bc she wouldn’t get there until the very possible last min, & always had some phony excuse. A court appointed lawyer will do better than her, & they’re free! I just couldn’t get assigned one so I had to find a cheap lawyer aka her. I would NEVER recommend her to anyone. Oh, & she truly didn’t do anything for me for my case. Her plan was just to reset until I finished paying her, & then when the judge makes her close out the case then she just agrees to whatever he says. She doesn’t fight for you. Worst lawyer ever.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
