Greetings to all 💝 I would like to share my experience with Attorney Brian Bernard. I had Mr. Bernard saved in my contacts from a relative in jail that asked me to reach out to him (Brian) in June 2024. About 1 month later my son went to jail and the attorney that I initially reached out to wanted to help for the "low-low" price of $7,500 for a Class "A" misdemeanor with an initial payment of $2,500😂. I sent Brian a text message wanting to know how much should a misdemeanor charge of that nature cost. I was bracing myself for impact of his response (because I am extra broke😂) but his response pleased me. The conversation of the photo is attached💝 Brian had my son out within hours. I was relieved because as parents we want our children to do the right thing and be ok. The day was nearing for me to fly out of town for work, so I was pleased and burden lifted. Moving forward to August 2024, my Aunt called me upset and stated her son went to jail and it would cost a lot of money for the bail bonds to get him released. I instantly said "Aunty call Brian, I am sure he can help and have him released the same day for a fair price💕 " She said text me his info and I will call him (In her still hurt tone). After my aunty called Brian, she called back telling me how excited she was and I could hear it in her soul💕 Then she told me some fun facts about Brian's career from their in person meet (I paid through CashApp😊 so we did not meet in person). My aunty kept thanking me. I said Aunty we Thank God for Mr. Brian Bernard. Names to me are very important because what we are called is what we are as well as what we respond to. For example My name is Jacqueline which means "May God Protect Her" and He definitely has throughout my whole entire life💝 Brian means: High, Noble, Honor and dignity Bernard means: Brave, Hardy and strong Now look at this fair man walk in his purpose according to who and what he is called.💗💖💝💓

These scamming pieces of trash, continuously send me warnings, I've already contacted the city I apparently have a warrant from. No warrant. Already paid YEARS AGO! Yet they continue their scare tactics. There's a special place in hell for companies like this. Just wait when I get to actually talk to someone, whatever nonexistent god they believe in better protect them that day.

I thank U again Mr. Carpenter for locating that young man today on short notice. That’s one worry off his family’s mind since his mother is in ICU. U didn’t have to do it or offer your assistance but you did. Many attorneys didn’t assist the family but you did so for that I say THANKS SIR.

I hired Elizabeth Rivera as my attorney for a complicated lawsuit, involving more than one party and including a corporation. As most people realize, the wheels of justice run slow. Covid interrupted my cases. However, even after all that, Elizabeth amazed me on many occasions. It was as if she had perfect recall of the details of all aspects of the case and quickly zoomed in on discrepancies by various parties. In court, she was professional, skilled and very prepared. I am happy with the results. In every aspect of the case I could win, I did. In the one aspect of the case that through no fault of Elzabeth I lost, Elizabeth's amazing court skills, used to argue against the outlandish attorney fees that the other side tried to make me pay, won me a favorable ruling. Do I recommend Elizabeth Rivera to others? Absolutely! Will I use her again, if needed? Absolutely! Do I have anything negative to say about her or any of her staff? NO!

Worst attorney you could ever hear of, doesnt care about anything just money, when I mean anything is anything, you will never receive a call from him unless is about money, no progress at all, no positive changes in the case, bad attitude, they will lie and promise you what you want a hear so that you can pay him at the moment and once paid, forget it you just dumped your money by the toilet. Honestly and trust me I read a couple bad revoews before I hored him and I told him I didnt want any of that stuff and they said none of that would happend, and once paid, that and more happend.

They will twist the story around and let you do a very very long maximum sentence in prison over a very very very serious accusation that was so dam false to begin with. Even a dummy could read the fine print and have common sense. Beware! Just keep it moving and hire yourself a real good professional. But…“Instead they should be called the criminals and of the state for allowing such behavior of a dirty trial from the officers, detectives, to the jury and then to the judge….not to mention the cross examiners and cross examination they did was very questionable how can you allow such verdict without sufficient evidence let alone a minor was interviewed without permission of a parent. They will violate your constitutional rights from left to right but they will fight to keep themselves standing innocent at the cost of what?? An innocent man’s life. I’m sure this isn’t the first time they do something this dirty but I do believe more proper investigation shall be given in any case given that will jeopardize someone’s impeccable life…to be exact this all happened in the city of Montgomery County Texas to be Exact….

I wouldn't recommend this attorney. She has not return our calls, text, emails or FB messages. We hired her to represent my daughter on a custody case which she did nothing! Then my daughter decide to give her another chance and paid her for another case and she didn't even open the case! She just took my daughter money and hasn't reply to any of our calls! 4 years of doing us the run around but when it comes to money she answers quickly! All I want for her is to pay my daughter her money back! She is a single mother of 3 and she used her saving to pay Kimberly! Ms. Bush was hired for representation during a family law case. She did no research, did not return calls or communicate in any way prior to the court date, and did not show in court at the appointed time (no call before, during, or after with an explanation). There has been no word from her since, and she relocated her office. Needless to say, the decision was not favorable. The money paid to Ms. Bush was also not returned.

She sales herself really well by making you believe she's going to fight and work hard for you, but once she actually has work to do that all changes. I asked her multiple times to send me an email and a month later I still haven't received it. I call her, she says she'll call me back. A week later still nothing. I have to call again. She had me sign off on paperwork that ended up hurting my case and made things more difficult for me. And she had assured me that it wouldn't. She kept trying to get me to focus on the other lawyer and kept saying the other lawyer looked like he was going to drop the case. I don't understand why that needed to be a focus or concern. She is a waste of money and a liar.

I'm so sorry I hired Mr. Yuen to my immigration case. I don't know if his office is always super busy or what, but getting to talk to him is almost impossible, I was trying to get a Religious visa and we started the process, paying a retainer, so he took over 3 months to just prepare the case for filing, then I consulted about Legal Certification and he said it was better than the R to me, WHY he didn't mention that at the beginning? Then he said 10,000 for the PERM, but then changed it to 12,000, then I had concerns about the sponsors, and he was't willing to give legal advise on that matter if I didn't paid the retainer in full. I mean, this man is all about money and not about people. He calls himself a Christian but acts as a greedy person. He kept the full retainer from the R case even though he never filed it after I asked for the PERM. He has been always very moody and talk as he is angry all the time, his reply after I asked to consider returning at least partially the retainer (He had agreed to credit $900 out of $1600 retainer towards the PERM, but then when after several weeks of waiting for them to start working, I decided to not continuing with his legal service, he said that he wasn't givint the $900 if I'm not doing the PERM with him).... And his answer when I asked to reconsider was literally this: 1. THERE IS NO REFUND FOR WE COMPLETED THE WORK, WAITING TO BE SIGNED AND SUBMIT; 2. THE CONTRACT STATED CLEARLY THAT THERE IS NO REFUND; 3. WE GIVE CRDIT OF $900 TO HELP FOR TRANSFERRING THE CASE TO LABOR CERTIFICATION WHICH COSTS MORE. NOW THE CLIENT WANT TO STOP BOTH, SO WE GO BACK TO GROUND ONE OF R VISA WHICH HAS NO REFUND. XENOS YUEN, ATTORNEY So this man is slow, very moody and all about money. Think it twice if you're hiring him for anything. I feel bad for their assistants. It mus be really hard do go to work everyday with a boss like this. If he treats like that to clients, I wonder how he treats his personnel.

I had practically everything. The staff is very rude. Jerry Zhang is not even in USA. We had to call several times to get the job done. He should be paying money to us. They just send you a DIY template and we have to work on it. They don't offer any help. They are in the business of just charging money. Don't waste your time by dealing with them. Court appointed. I've read nothing but negative reviews. My son is a first time offender in a federal case that he is not proud of, but ..life happens. Vincent is not good at returning calls/ text/ giving updates. I would have thought he has some sense in speaking to a woman with some kind of etiquette, but that's not the case. Being a single mother with her young adult child that has never been in trouble is beyond any words. I gave up on trying to speak with him (maybe I'm just being a mom and want to know every step. But can you bla.e me?) and pray that he will do what he.. as an attorney signed up to do which is to do all he possibly can to fight for the best deal and the best less time possible. Like I said, maybe I'm just too much in the mix and I whelming him as well with all my questions. So, I leave it in God's hands and pray that Vincent will come through. I will continue to update regarding his service.

I admit I screwed up and found myself facing multiple criminal charges. The first attorney I talked to wanted 10 grand and I balked on that and eneded up with Vincent at a liitle more than a 1/3 that price. What a huge mistake. I thought things were ok until the end and then it was obvious Vincent felt as if he had done enough for the price paid and he simplt stopped responding to my texts and emails. Not only that but if I didn't know any better I would assume this was his first criminal case. He didn't tell many pertinent things and everything he did tell me was incorrect. Two of those things did end up in my favor, I got 3 years probation instead of the 5 he told me I would probably get and the 200 hours of community service turned out to be 180. Everything else was a negative for me. The suspension of my license, the inability to reclaim my property from the police and time in jail and were just a few of the items I was mislead on. At the end he just stopped responding to me and asked that I talk to his paralegal Irene. She was one of the rudest most condesending human beings I have ever dealt with. IMO Vincent should settle on one aspect of law and do it well, instead he spreads himself thin and does a poor job. I don't think Vincent is a bad person, just a bad lawyer.

I hired her bc I had to get a lawyer quick due to my conditions w/the judge. I only hired her bc she was cheaper than most, & accepted a payment plan. (I truly didn’t look into too many lawyers until landing on her, tbh) The 1 star I suppose can go towards her being chill w/payments. Other than that, you get what you pay for. She was unprofessional, all over the place, lazy, reset my case for over a year, & always showed up hella late. I was always the last one in court bc she wouldn’t get there until the very possible last min, & always had some phony excuse. A court appointed lawyer will do better than her, & they’re free! I just couldn’t get assigned one so I had to find a cheap lawyer aka her. I would NEVER recommend her to anyone. Oh, & she truly didn’t do anything for me for my case. Her plan was just to reset until I finished paying her, & then when the judge makes her close out the case then she just agrees to whatever he says. She doesn’t fight for you. Worst lawyer ever.

In 2014 I was surprisingly charged with robbery with bodily injury a case not to be taken lightly after a Carefree night out with a few Associates that night I had a verbal altercation with a female in the parking lot that escalated to her being badly beaten up and robbed her wedding ring was taken and she was allegedly kicked which brought the charge to an aggravated offense in fear of going to prison for something I didn't do I rushed directly to 2500 West where the most attentive attorney I ever witnessed sat behind her desk and in gauged every detail and questioned every event mentioned Dani Bradberry searched and internalized every inch of that case got to know every clerk in the courtroom while leaving an impression on every other attorney judge and client that she ran across my lawyer convinced one of the most highly respected district Attorney's and felony judges to reduce a 15 year offer with her health and the health of God I didn't step 1 foot in jail I paid a non-arrest bond numbers reduced to a misdemeanor all because Daniel Bradberry believes in doing her research studying for every test and passing with intellectual driven confidence.

Mr. Hultkrantz was assigned to my case as my court-appointed attorney for a misdemeanor charge out of Collin County. He hasn't returned a single phone call I've made to him since assigned (March 2016). The first time I spoke with him was at my first court date, where I was finally able to discuss my concerns over my DL being suspended. He told me I didn't need to worry about this unless I received notice from the state stating my DL was being suspended. A few days later, I received that letter, and I began calling him with urgent messages left as I am the only person in my home with a car and DL. I just wanted advice on how to obtain an ODL, so that I could get to work & basically legally make weekly trips to grocery store, doctor's appointments, etc. He never called me back. I had about 3 business days' notice to figure out getting ODL, to include $, court docs filed, & documentation requested by DPS/Collin County Courts. I had to miss work to do this. At first court date, he told me what the DA was offering & said he wanted to view the video of my arrest. Next court date was almost 2 months later, & he said he wasn't able to view video despite trying to do so on 2 different computers. Immediately, he began to re-discuss the DA's offer. I told him I wouldn't agree to any DA offer until we could view video. I told him I wanted to come view at his office & he reset court for a short interval so that we could do this. He said he would call me that next week to schedule. Two weeks went by, and I didn't hear from him. I began texting him around that time, thinking maybe he forgot. Despite my requests to have a meeting with him to see video & present medical records for 3 weeks, I still haven't been told when we could set this up. Court is in less than week.

Bob, like many lawyers, is probably just too busy to keep a client such as myself satisfied. I understand people make mistakes; however, Bob actually acquired a list from me. Missed my ALR hearing (license got suspended), missed an appointment I had setup the day prior to go over my evidence, told me he hadn't even looked at/received my evidence until over 6 months after I had been arrested (felt like he looked at it the night prior to a court date), never fulfilled a single request I had unless it involved paying him or showing up to court, and he was very elusive to me. I'd hate to give him a bad review but hopefully he reads this and fixes himself. Needs to be more concerned with the client's case and provide some kind of comfort in the process.

This was the worst experience with a lawyer ever. He was never available to speak with us. He lost our documents. He would ask us to leave items in the mailbox and pick them up from the mailbox because he was never available. We wasted two months of our time only to find out none of the paperwork he had prepared were what was needed for our case.

I had been previously struggling with a different attorney whom i paid and he was the worst Attorney i could have ever hired! I fired him and was out of funds for a new one. I then received a court appointed Attorney whom was Edward P. Dancause and the difference was night and DAY! Mr. Dancause went above and beyond for my case. He has a genuine interest in the outcome for his clients the care that he showed for my case was clear and he DELIVERED the BEST outcome that i could have had!! He under promised and over delivered, he also kept his word on the promises he did make as far as returning calls and providing documents especially since i live states away from Texas where my case was. Mr. Dancause is an attorney you can trust and i am forever greatful to him for helping me and my family through a very difficult time not only for the great outcome but more so for the genuine care that he showed to us. He made the process as easy as he could for us since we had to travel 12 hours for every court. If you want an attorney you can TRUST this is where you can find him!!

Mr Dancause was my lawyer in family court. It was a terrible experience all the way. He will nether return my calls or respond to my emails. Our first appearance in court was a disaster. He was not prepare at all. He asked me for documents I sent him months prior to the hearing. When I had the opportunity to talk to him on the phone he will always find excuse not to stay on the phone using excuses like I am at the mechanic for my car, or I am moving offices. I will use the same excuses over and over. The second court appearance was an other awful experience. I will not recommend that lawyer.

This guy was appointed to my son. All he wanted was for my son to talk on people he knew or lie on ones he didn't know. After postponing court 2 or 3 times on day of court, when my son finally got to court hte handed him off to some lawyer mjy son had never seen. No warrant was used when they came in our home. No drugs or anything to do with drugs were in our home. The only thing they had was video of him giving his cousin a tiny amount of a drug. But on tape when said person got to police station the bag on video was a different color and the amount was different. No money changed hands. This guy never wanted to fight for my son. He is a smuk. He works for feds not clients.

I was appointed him and when I ask for a couple things he said it would make the prosecutor angry. Which can happen but she was already asking for the max. I ask for his business card and he said "I cannot give them out because of the government sequester." Then I asked him to write it down he said he would contact me. 6 days till my hearing no words I had to hire one.

Mr. Arrambide was appointed for me by the court. He worked harder, smarter and better for me than I could have ever imagined. He fearlessly faced down several feds that were against me and he sought out hard to find facts to help my case. We (he) defeated all of the opposition and I am rightfully walking free today.

Don't deal with this firm. I was impressed with the way they held my hand and helped me get my case approved 15 years ago. I made a mistake by giving them the job of applying H1B for my employee. I am a successful businessman take my advise. I've seen how success has hit this company. They don't care for customers any more like they used to. They offer "0" support and no customer service plus they are all very rude. The attorney I was dealing with yelled at me several times. Their team is in China, they just outsource everything.

Run, run, and keep running. This lawyer is a nightmare. I used him for my divorce and he made things up to get money from me. He then asked me to lie in court to get double that money from my ex. His Hispanic secretary harassed me to the point of depression. He was rude and awful in court whenever he was on time. I ended up firing him and settling with my ex's attorney. Worst attorney ever!!!! Save your money and your dignity. Horrible!!!!!

I sent her countless emails to all three of her emails, I phoned and left message after message on her cel and office phone, I sent text after text. I still have not heard from her. I have not received a single invoice or receipt outlining the work, if any, that she's done. This lawyer has taken my money and disappeared.

A true man for what’s right, and I believe that in my heart of hearts.

Avoid and stay away. Misconduct, dishonesty, and unprofessional. This attorney needs to repeat grad school and retake the Ethics course. He screwed up my I-485 petition: lied, misconducted, and was rude. Cannot tell how this influenced my life. Both I and my wife fired this attorney and firm. We have saved all the original email communications. We would be happy to share per request to use as educational materials. Please google the attorney’s name before you decide to hire. Interested to see the story, see below. We hired this attorney to file two I-485 cases for my wife, and myself as a derivate applicant. The I-485 case of my wife’s was filed earlier properly but due to visa retrogression, when we were preparing the paperwork for mine, the PD of the primary applicant was not current. 1. We were told I could not file until we could, we checked multiple times however, my case was filed to USCIS in May 2023 when the PD of the primary applicant was still not current even now (August 2023) 2. We asked for confirmation within 2hr upon receiving your email telling us my package was shipped, we were told that, ‘we haven’t, we will until we can. 3. 2 weeks later, we were notified by USCIS that my case was received. 4. 1 week after, we were told that they indeed filed my case and advised us just to wait. 5. We expressed the concerns politely; We were told that USCIS should not mistakenly accept the case. We were again told no action was needed; Even if something happens, they would help us proceed with CP or Follow-to-join, which would take a significantly long time. We said no. In the initial conversation, they told us they would do what they could to avoid this happening as this could take a very long time. 6. We took a lot of time looking into this issue, and we all became very anxious. Unfortunately, we found it was well-documented that the I-485 not Current filing would be denied; We also found some similar cases from a BBS and some friends around. We again expressed our concerns and asked for a solution, we were told what we described was quite implausible. 7. We asked to let him withdraw the case on my behalf and would still let him help me refile when it becomes current. We were again told the fact of USCIS receiving my case would be a good thing for us. Also, we were told we could not refile when the withdrawal case was not completed. 8. We followed up, and we were told that Form B was in use and the timing was good when my case was filed in May 2023, so there was NOTHING wrong but just some miscommunication. We were convinced at that time and felt happy. However, we checked and found it was a lie. Form B was never in use since early this year and is still true now (August 2023). We were fooled. 9. We decided to pay for a consultation with another lawyer, we also used some free services provided by AVVO. Consistently, we were advised to withdraw and when it becomes Current, we can refile not to miss the timing. Even if the withdrawal case is not completed, we can still refile for no problem. We asked again, and they refused but admitted that we could refile even if the withdrawal case was pending. They told us because it would cause a financial loss to their firm, they refused to issue a refund but would be happy to disengage immediately.

He has no empathy even just at a human level. My friend had warned me but I had started using him already before he told me. My case was stagnant and I do not think he had it filed maybe because he either chose not to or was rejected due to his suspension. By this time I was already down over $1000 on attorney fees alone. He also makes up additional fees that you may not suspect because you may not understand the law, this, I learnt from a different attorney. A year later, he kept giving excuses and does not bother giving an update even just by email and waits for you to call only to get another excuse because he is not organized. He blamed his secretary on one occasion something no one would want to hear. He pulls in new clients with free consultation. I took off before it was too late. My friend had a traffic case that he learnt had not been filed with the courts from another lawyer as well.

This office filed a claim with the insurance without proper documentations, when I asked to get information about what they sent to the insurance and the status of the case, they refused, stating that they will review my file and get back to me. I spoke with Fidelis, who told me to come to his office, pick up my file and get out of his office , he also said other things I rather not mention in this review, so uncalled for... Come to find out, he is was actually disciplined in 2016 by the board. Very unprofessional, untruthful and very rude. Run away from this firm.

I would not recommend Bob as he started out great at first, but has trouble finishing his job. We hired him and paid him in full due to a lawsuit, then we just can't get a hold of him as he would never respond to our calls, emails or text messages. Until finally he responded and apologized and finished the job and even offered some free service. I reached out to Roberto to see if he would take my case. He agreed he would and would send over a contract. I waited for over two weeks to get said contract. I called and emailed multiple times. I even asked if he doesn't have the time, just communicate that so I can find another attorney. Nothing. Dead silence. I would not recommend working with him. If this is the level of communication he provides before starting a case, image how it is during a case. No thank you.

What an Immigration Lawyer Can Do for You

An immigration lawyer specializes in helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complex immigration process. These lawyers provide legal guidance on various immigration matters, such as obtaining visas, gaining permanent residency (green cards), applying for citizenship, and defending clients in deportation or removal proceedings. Immigration lawyers also assist with employment-based immigration, asylum applications, and resolving issues related to visas or immigration status.

Whether you're trying to immigrate to the U.S., facing deportation, or sponsoring an employee or family member for a visa, an immigration lawyer can help you understand your legal options and navigate the often complicated legal system.

When Should I Hire an Immigration Lawyer?

Hiring an immigration lawyer is beneficial in many situations where you are dealing with U.S. immigration laws, whether for personal or business reasons. Common reasons to hire an immigration lawyer include:

  • Visa applications: If you need assistance applying for a visa, whether it's a work visa (H-1B), student visa (F-1), or tourist visa (B-1/B-2), a lawyer can help ensure the application is properly completed and submitted.
  • Green card applications: If you're seeking permanent residency, an immigration lawyer can guide you through the process, whether through family sponsorship, employment, or the Diversity Visa (lottery) program.
  • Deportation or removal defense: If you’re facing deportation or removal from the U.S., a lawyer can defend your case in immigration court and seek to prevent removal.
  • Asylum applications: If you’re seeking asylum due to persecution or fear of persecution in your home country, a lawyer can help you prepare a strong case and file for asylum.
  • Family reunification: If you're a U.S. citizen or permanent resident looking to bring family members to the U.S., a lawyer can assist with the family sponsorship process.
  • Citizenship and naturalization: If you're ready to apply for U.S. citizenship, a lawyer can help you navigate the naturalization process and ensure you meet all the requirements.
  • Business immigration: If you're an employer seeking to hire foreign workers, a lawyer can assist with employment-based visas, labor certification, and compliance with immigration regulations.
  • Special immigration categories: Immigration lawyers also handle complex cases, such as visas for victims of human trafficking (T visa), crime victims (U visa), or those seeking Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

Hiring an immigration lawyer early in the process can help you avoid delays, errors, and possible denials due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

What Does an Immigration Lawyer Do?

An immigration lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients with their immigration needs, whether personal or business-related. Their tasks often include:

  • Assisting with visa applications: Helping clients fill out and submit visa applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Filing for green cards and permanent residency: Guiding clients through the process of applying for a green card, including family-based, employment-based, or other forms of residency.
  • Defending against deportation or removal: Representing clients in immigration court who are facing deportation and working to prevent removal from the U.S.
  • Preparing asylum cases: Assisting clients in applying for asylum based on fear of persecution in their home country due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.
  • Handling citizenship applications: Helping lawful permanent residents apply for naturalization and ensuring they meet all the legal requirements for U.S. citizenship.
  • Employment-based immigration: Assisting employers with the process of sponsoring foreign workers for temporary or permanent visas, including H-1B, L-1, and EB-1 through EB-5 visas.
  • Representation in immigration interviews: Preparing clients for immigration interviews and attending interviews at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) offices.
  • Appealing denied applications: If a visa, green card, or citizenship application is denied, a lawyer can file appeals or motions to reopen or reconsider the case.

How Are Immigration Lawyers Paid?

Immigration lawyers generally charge for their services based on the type of immigration case and the complexity of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many immigration lawyers charge a flat fee for specific services, such as preparing a visa application, green card petition, or citizenship application. Flat fees help clients know upfront what the legal costs will be for a particular service.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as deportation defense or appeals, some lawyers charge by the hour. Hourly rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and the complexity of the case.
  • Retainer: For ongoing immigration matters, some clients may need to pay a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.
  • Pro bono or sliding scale: Some immigration lawyers or nonprofit organizations may offer free or low-cost services for clients with limited financial means, particularly in asylum or humanitarian cases.

It’s essential to discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the costs and payment arrangements.

How Much Does an Immigration Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer varies based on the type of legal service required, the lawyer's experience, and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Visa applications: For help with visa applications (e.g., H-1B, L-1, F-1), legal fees may range from $2,000 to $7,500, depending on the complexity and the type of visa.
  • Green card applications: Fees for family-based or employment-based green card applications typically range from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on the case.
  • Deportation defense: For defending clients in removal proceedings, costs can range from $5,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case and how long the case takes.
  • Asylum cases: Asylum applications may range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on whether the case is defensive (in removal proceedings) or affirmative (not in removal proceedings).
  • Citizenship applications: Legal fees for filing a naturalization application usually range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the client’s immigration history.
  • Business immigration services: Fees for assisting businesses with employment-based visas (such as H-1B or EB-5 visas) often range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Always ask for a clear breakdown of costs and fee arrangements before proceeding with legal services.

Top Questions to Ask an Immigration Lawyer

Before hiring an immigration lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your case effectively. Important questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with immigration cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it’s family-based immigration, employment visas, or asylum.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee, hourly rate, or retainer, and ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case and the potential outcomes, including any challenges you might face.
  4. How long will the process take?
Immigration cases can take time, so ask how long it may take to process your application or resolve your legal issue.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of your case. Make sure you know who will be working on your case directly.
  6. What documents do I need to provide?
Ask the lawyer about the documentation required to support your case, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, or employment contracts.

How to Check the Credibility of an Immigration Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable immigration lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Check their state bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for specific immigration law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in immigration law and have experience handling cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their ability to handle immigration cases.
  • Check for industry affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) can indicate the lawyer’s expertise and commitment to immigration law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an immigration lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Passport and immigration documents: Bring your passport, visa, and any documents related to your current immigration status.
  • Family documents: If you're applying for a family-based visa or green card, bring marriage certificates, birth certificates, and proof of family relationships.
  • Employment information: For employment-based visas, provide your employment contract, offer letter, or other documentation of your job.
  • Criminal records (if applicable): If you have any criminal history, bring copies of court records and other relevant documents.
  • Timeline of events: Provide a clear timeline of any prior immigration applications, visas, or issues with immigration authorities.
  • List of questions: Prepare any questions you have about your immigration case, the process, costs, and the likelihood of success.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer understand your case more effectively and get the best possible legal advice on how to proceed.
