So far, I've had a horrible experience with this lawyer. She keeps ignoring my attempts to communicate with her. When she does call me, she belittles me and won't let me talk. When I tried to tell her these people were violating my rights, she said it was irrelevant. When I asked her to let me finish my sentence, she laughed at me. This case, which was initially so easy, is now in great risk because this lawyer was appointed to me. Her neglect and lack of professionalism have caused so much damage and so much unnecessary stress.

Attorney Rifman won the case for us because of her excellent preparation. We were fighting a speeding ticket; what made the difference was that she'd driven the road beforehand and could demonstrate that what appeared to be fairly aggressive speeding was actually somewhat minor (at the original speed limit a few blocks prior).
I didn't even realize she'd done this background work before she pointed it out to the magistrate.
We'd definitely use her again.

Paul has ignored me for months at a time, has made sure he has done his best to not contact anyone of my witnesses or professional providers. Has even gone as far as to block my number. He lost my case the first time around because he botched everything by trying to go over everything two minutes before walking through the court room doors. He put me and my family on the back burner as if we don't matter. He asked for a meeting with one of my providers and chose not to show up for the meeting he requested.

Paul was hired as my attorney during a very troubling time in my life. Over the course of time working with Paul on my case, I felt more that Paul was my friend than some attorney I hired to work a case. Paul went out of his way, with time, resources and even lending a sympathetic ear when needed to make me feel like everything would work out in the end. When our son called to tell us that he was facing some legal charges, we reached out to a Boston friend and were given Kelly's name. She was super responsive and gave us a clear picture of our son's circumstance. With her strong relationships in the legal community, she negotiated a plan for our son to enter a treatment facility (which we had been trying to get him to for some time) and delay the arraignment hearing. Kelly communicated with his therapeutic team during treatment and kept the prosecutor informed of this progress. After his completion of the program, the charges were dismissed. I 100% agree with Mel. I gave my banking account number and was told they'd be a deduction on the 1st and the 15th of each month. (which I agreed) The problem is I was never told how much those withdrawals would be. My husband is a disabled veteran and only gets a check once a month. We never even appeared in court. The opposing attorney was not contacting my attorney for 4+ months, yet my balance was never known by me and was growing somehow. It wasn't until I requested a statement that I received a few through email. I have never once spoken to Peter on the phone. Although the attorney who was working with me was very nice, he told me he had no part in the billing. He told me it was Peter. Basically, I gave a $4500 retainer in case we needed to go to court, which we never did, and I never received regular monthly statements from Mr. Calabrese. Due to my experience with the billing of this attorney, I would NEVER recommend them. This morning I see an email saying he will not represent me any longer because of my large outstanding balance (which I knew nothing about). As soon as I emailed him, all of a sudden I receive all these statements. Lol! And a balance that was insane.
I agree with Mel. Do not sign any contract that involves giving your banking info out.
This is not ethical and I intend on reporting to the Bar. These are examples of bad practices. People are already hurting in bad land situations, and the last thing anyone needs is to be taken advantage of. Beware people! Read Mel's review, and others on several sites before you use this firm. Attorney Wayland is an honest lawyer with high ethical standards and very practical approach. I found Edward after searching the list of best lawyers in Boston and he proved to be one for my highly contentious long stretched divorce case. From the very beginning till the very last day of our work together, Edward was always prompt and available, guiding me through the options, clarifying my doubts and ignorance about the process, and providing compassion and encouragement during tough moments. Throughout the process, Edward had an approach of resolving issues collaboratively with the other party, however, if I felt I was getting unfair share and wanted to fight back harder, he was right by my side with unwavering advocacy for that as well. I personally am very impressed by Edward’s command over communication skills as he can say strong stuff in a very polite yet firm and targeted verbiage. I was surprised to see other lawyers getting agitated or rude, but Edward always held calm demeanor while maintaining firm tone and pushing the agenda forward. Every year Boston magazine publishes the results for top attorneys in Boston from different legal specialties, from business and criminal law to family and employment law. If there are top 100 attorneys; Edward Wayland would be voted as the top 10 WORST attorneys in Boston. I'm very grateful I had made the right decision to terminate him for ineffectiveness of his counsel. About few years ago, To today's day, I never regretted (terminating) firing Edward Wayland.
He almost ruined my life and my freedom. lack of communication, Failure to exercise diligence, ineffectiveness of his counsel, and Incompetence, Incompetence, and Incompetence. I'm in the process of filing a complaint against him to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseer; Attorney and Consumer Assistance Program (ACAP), I think he should get his license suspended or revoked. (everything I stated here is true except for the top 10 worst attorneys).

Every year Boston magazine publishes the results for top attorneys in Boston from different legal specialties, from business and criminal law to family and employment law. If there are top 100 attorneys; Edward Wayland would be voted as the top 10 WORST attorneys in Boston. I'm very grateful I had made the right decision to terminate him for ineffectiveness of his counsel. About few years ago, To today's day, I never regretted (terminating) firing Edward Wayland.
He almost ruined my life and my freedom. lack of communication, Failure to exercise diligence, ineffectiveness of his counsel, and Incompetence, Incompetence, and Incompetence. I'm in the process of filing a complaint against him to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseer; Attorney and Consumer Assistance Program (ACAP), I think he should get his license suspended or revoked. (everything I stated here is true except for the top 10 worst attorneys).

I've experienced extremely poor communication with this law firm. I've been waiting for a response from Mr. Jutras about a trust-related concern for over two months. I have detailed records of the communication attempt. I'm in the midst of writing a formal complaint to the Massachusetts bar association. Before hiring Sugarman, we did not read any of the stellar reviews offered by other satisfied clients. Nor did we 'shop around'. Maryanne Leblanc was a personal reference from another lawyer. Her service on our behalf was beyond reproach, expectation or, even, imagination. We were treated more than fairly (as if we had been generational family friends). I 100% agree with Mel. I gave my banking account number and was told they'd be a deduction on the 1st and the 15th of each month. (which I agreed) The problem is I was never told how much those withdrawals would be. My husband is a disabled veteran and only gets a check once a month. We never even appeared in court. The opposing attorney was not contacting my attorney for 4+ months, yet my balance was never known by me and was growing somehow. It wasn't until I requested a statement that I received a few through email. I have never once spoken to Peter on the phone. Although the attorney who was working with me was very nice, he told me he had no part in the billing. He told me it was Peter. Basically, I gave a $4500 retainer in case we needed to go to court, which we never did, and I never received regular monthly statements from Mr. Calabrese. Due to my experience with the billing of this attorney, I would NEVER recommend them. This morning I see an email saying he will not represent me any longer because of my large outstanding balance (which I knew nothing about). As soon as I emailed him, all of a sudden I receive all these statements. Lol! And a balance that was insane.
I agree with Mel. Do not sign any contract that involves giving your banking info out.
This is not ethical and I intend on reporting to the Bar. These are examples of bad practices. People are already hurting in bad land situations, and the last thing anyone needs is to be taken advantage of. Beware people! Read Mel's review, and others on several sites before you use this firm.
