We dealt with the Law Office of Arthur J Broadhurst only briefly, they handled the final paperwork when it came to buying my home in Salem NH. While they were easy and helpful enough in the beginning, they made a mistake executing a transaction on our behalf which resulted in the funds being lost. It has been nearly two months since the money has been missing and they have dragged their feet in helping us recover it, pointing the finger at everyone else involved except themselves. Very disappointed and unsatisfied.

Over the past decade Kevin has assisted me with a number of legal matters in multiple jurisdictions. I have seen him in action and have been able to compare him to other lawyers. He deserves the highest rating possible. I value his counsel and he is my first call for all things legal. In every engagement Kevin has acted in a professional manner and he has always worked diligently to achieve the best possible outcome. Kevin communicates well and he is always prompt in returning calls and emails. When faced with an emergency he is the guy to call as he will drop everything for a client who is truly in need. He is also reachable at any time and you will find that his email signature line includes his email address, direct dial number, and his personal cell number so if you have to reach him at night or on the weekends you can

Mr. Maglio keep telling me and my advisors that every thing was just find and that we stood on solid ground. That the other lawyer was a "buffoon", to quote his words. Whoever, in court the baffoon totally out shined Maglio. It was a disaster. When I asked Maglio to do something he yelled at me in court. The the lawyer he brought into court, Andrew Davis Jr., took the stand chewing gum, which was addressed by the judge. Needless to say this all had a negative effect on the jurors. I lost. I would not recommend Davis Maglio at all. He latter refused to cooperate with a second attorney that I hired.

Every year Boston magazine publishes the results for top attorneys in Boston from different legal specialties, from business and criminal law to family and employment law. If there are top 100 attorneys; Edward Wayland would be voted as the top 10 WORST attorneys in Boston. I'm very grateful I had made the right decision to terminate him for ineffectiveness of his counsel. About few years ago, To today's day, I never regretted (terminating) firing Edward Wayland. He almost ruined my life and my freedom. lack of communication, Failure to exercise diligence, ineffectiveness of his counsel, and Incompetence, Incompetence, and Incompetence. I'm in the process of filing a complaint against him to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseer; Attorney and Consumer Assistance Program (ACAP), I think he should get his license suspended or revoked. I would like to share with everyone the extremely positive experience we had with Attorney Edward Wayland. We were "in the weeds" and getting "bullied" by opposing counsel. Edward just calmly and rationally cut through "the sideshow" intended to distract and turned the situation around 180 degrees. Most importantly Edward held to his integrity and achieved a "just" outcome. I am happy to speak with anyone directly as this is a real experience. You can contact Edward for my details.

His firm is a huge and impersonal disability/personal injury/workers' compensation mill. I hired Mummolo to represent me in a disability action. At the time I retained him, he seemed knowledgable and professional and he gave me all sorts of assurances about how my case would be handled. The case has been going on for over a year and I haven't spoken to him since. He doesn't call you back if you leave him a message. Instead, your case is assigned to a a supposed "paralegal." You are forced to converse with this person and this person alone. Unfortunately, my assigned clerk is new at the job, doesn't know anything, and isn't particularly interested in learning. As the case has progresses, he has become more and more rude. When I speak to him, it is obvious that he doesn't know anything about the specifics of my case and that he "handles" a great many cases. When I recently became very concerned that updated medical reports had not been submitted to the government for months in my case, I asked the clerk for a copy of my file. He gave me all sorts of excuses and reasons why this was not possible . When I reminded him that the file ultimately belongs to the client and not the attorney, he said that I was "micro-managing" the case. Nothing could be further from the truth. I'm quite sick and am incapable of "micro-managing" anything, particularly this lawsuit. I am just trying to exercise some due diligence. I regret the decision to hire Mummolo.

Connor is the right name for this one. Connor started by saying this case would be a "cakewalk". He's out for easy money. Connor dodges calls and doesn't answer questions. It's like pulling teeth to get an update. He spent almost no time on this case and clearly did not want to do any work. We did most of the work. Paralegal treated us like strangers every time. Connor did only what was easiest for him. Connor never got the facts of the case right. When pressed to fight for us, he responded in the most unethical way that unfortunately cannot be repeated here. Look for someone else. I read another review that sounded just like our experience.

To begin with, John doesn't return phone calls. We would call and call, and finally go to his office to talk to him, and the only way we could talk to him is if he happened to be walking by while we were in the office. He takes FOREVER to progress with a case. He NEVER updates the client about anything. I think he has too much on his plate. I'm very unimpressed and dissatisfied. I not only would not recommend him to anyone, but I have also steered 2 families (so far) away from using him, and used another similar lawyer instead of him for my own similar needs! Their own website says "Creative lawyering, aggressive advocacy and enduring perseverance" and I have not found any of this to be true.

I am writing to warn everyone to stay clear of this attorney, as he commits outright fraud, and I am about to lose my house over it. Mr. Provanzano prays on people in trouble and especially the Elderly, takes their money, and leaves them worse off than they were when they walk in to ask for his help. He Charged us $50,000, did not do discovery, and now we are going to trial, without being allowed to present evidence, or any witnesses, in a fraud case, we lost 1.3 million dollars. This guy even went to hearings after he quit, to make sure, we were not able to present a case in any fashion. DO NOT HIRE THIS ATTORNEY, OR YOU MAY LOSE EVERYTHING AS WE DID.

I consulted with him re: my landlord's refusal to reimburse my hotel costs and the many delays in restoring my apartment after a fire. He told me to tell landlord I would pay for repairs and seek reimbursement (in court if necessary), giving him 24 hour notice to arrange for repairs himself. I asked the Dept. of Public Health to inspect the apartment and received a notice that stated, according to “general laws, chapter 111, section 127, [sometimes you can] use your rent money to make the repairs yourself. If the Framingham Board of Health....certifies that there are code violations which endager or materially impair your health, safety...and your landlord has received written notice of the violations, you may be able to use this remedy..." If the owner does not begin repairs within 5 days or complete them within 14 days, you can use up to 4 month's rent to pay for them yourself. There is no law that allows 24 hour notice and the issue is much more complex than he indicated. I told Joe about this info. and received no response. Thank God, I didn’t spent thousands of my own money. He sounded 100% confident that I would get reimbursed.

My family made the painful mistake of trusting Attorney Ryan with the settlement of our father's estate. The entire process was drawn out in a long, financially draining manner. Simple tasks were billed for extensive hours and some were even completed by more than one person resulting in double billing. The original living trust was drawn up by Attorney Ryan before our father's passing so one would think that its settlement would be issue-free. This, sadly, was not the case. He consistently had to "consult" with his right-hand woman Tina to determine what should be done (at billable hours). This clearly is a man whose time representing clients should come to an end.

As a trustee of a condo association, I worked with Jon (and his firm Donovan Hatem) on a memo to help settle a construction dispute between owners with an unbiased opinion on how trustees should read the docs. He took months to review a few condo and construction docs and presented a final version memo that was totally inaccurate and incomplete in my own attorney’s opinion as well as mine. Jon admitted there were major issues with the document in writing to the condo board. But after over $11k and 6 weeks to produce the first document, Jon wanted more money to fix what was incredibly sloppy work that should have not been delivered or at the very least been marked Draft 1. The board refused to pay him more money and the attorney refused to fix the issues for no fee so we got stuck with a useless and incomplete $11,000+ document. So his inaccuracies to the memo went knowingly uncorrected – he basically said to me when I complained (and I paraphrase), “Hey, my report is inaccurate and I know it, your board won’t pay me to fix it, tough luck.” Is this possible or ethical? I know when I make a mistake, I do not charge my clients to fix it. He was also very unresponsive and didn’t reply to most of my emails (and I didn’t send many). So I never knew if he was actually seeing the important information I was sending him and paying him to review. I asked him to reply to my emails and he had his IT folks set up a rude auto-reply that still didn’t tell me if he saw what I was sending him. This was super awful client service. Net net, I would NOT put anything important or complicated in Jon’s hands. In my opinion, he could not get his head around the issues or the documents to connect the dots.

What an Insurance Lawyer Can Do for You

An insurance lawyer specializes in legal issues related to insurance policies and claims. These lawyers help individuals, businesses, and insurance companies navigate disputes involving insurance coverage, claim denials, bad faith claims, and policy interpretation. Insurance lawyers can represent policyholders who feel they've been unfairly denied coverage, or they can work on behalf of insurance companies to defend against fraudulent or inflated claims.

Whether you're filing a claim, disputing a denial, or dealing with complex coverage issues, an insurance lawyer can provide critical guidance and legal representation to protect your rights and ensure you receive the benefits you're entitled to under your policy.

When Should I Hire an Insurance Lawyer?

Hiring an insurance lawyer is advisable in several situations, particularly when disputes arise over insurance coverage, claim denials, or bad faith actions. Common reasons to hire an insurance lawyer include:

  • Denied insurance claims: If your insurance company denies your claim, a lawyer can help determine whether the denial was justified or if you should challenge the decision.
  • Bad faith insurance practices: If you believe your insurer has acted in bad faith, such as delaying payment or failing to properly investigate your claim, a lawyer can help you pursue legal action.
  • Underpaid claims: If the insurance company has offered less compensation than you believe your claim is worth, a lawyer can negotiate for a higher payout or file a lawsuit.
  • Coverage disputes: When there's ambiguity or disagreement about what your policy covers, a lawyer can provide clarity and advocate for your rights under the policy.
  • Business insurance claims: If you own a business and are dealing with commercial insurance claims (e.g., property damage, liability, or professional indemnity), a lawyer can help ensure your business receives proper coverage.
  • Third-party claims: If you're being sued for liability and your insurance company refuses to defend or indemnify you, an insurance lawyer can help enforce your coverage rights.
  • Appealing long-term disability claims: If your disability insurance claim has been denied, a lawyer can assist in gathering evidence and appealing the decision to get the benefits you deserve.

What Does an Insurance Lawyer Do?

An insurance lawyer provides a wide range of services to assist with insurance-related legal issues. These can include:

  • Reviewing insurance policies: A lawyer can review your insurance policy to ensure you understand your rights and obligations, as well as clarify what coverage is provided.
  • Filing insurance claims: Assisting with the preparation and filing of claims to ensure all necessary documentation is submitted correctly.
  • Challenging claim denials: If your claim has been denied, a lawyer can investigate the reasons for denial and file appeals or lawsuits to challenge the decision.
  • Litigating bad faith claims: Representing clients in bad faith insurance cases, where the insurer fails to act in good faith by unfairly delaying, denying, or underpaying a valid claim.
  • Negotiating settlements: Helping policyholders negotiate settlements with insurance companies to receive fair compensation for claims.
  • Defending against fraudulent claims: Representing insurance companies to defend against false or exaggerated claims filed by policyholders or third parties.
  • Handling disputes over policy language: Interpreting complex insurance policies and resolving disputes between the insured and the insurer regarding coverage limits, exclusions, and conditions.

How Are Insurance Lawyers Paid?

Insurance lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways, depending on the nature of the case and the type of insurance issue involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Contingency fee: For many policyholders disputing claim denials or underpayments, lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means the lawyer only gets paid if they win or settle the case, taking a percentage (usually between 25% and 40%) of the recovered amount.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex or ongoing legal issues, such as bad faith lawsuits or business insurance disputes, insurance lawyers may charge an hourly rate. This rate varies depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler matters, such as reviewing an insurance policy or helping file a claim, some lawyers charge a flat fee for their services.
  • Retainer: For businesses or clients with ongoing legal needs, an insurance lawyer may require a retainer fee, which is an upfront payment for future services.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does an Insurance Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an insurance lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the payment structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency fee basis, you won’t pay any fees upfront, but the lawyer will take a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or judgment awarded.
  • Hourly rates: Hourly rates for insurance lawyers generally range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location. Complex cases involving bad faith or high-value business claims may require significant hours, leading to higher legal costs.
  • Flat fees: For specific services, such as reviewing an insurance policy, lawyers may charge a flat fee ranging from $500 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the task.
  • Retainers: Businesses or individuals seeking ongoing insurance legal services may pay a retainer, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the lawyer and scope of work.

Make sure to discuss costs and payment structures with your lawyer before proceeding to understand how much the services will cost.

Top Questions to Ask an Insurance Lawyer

Before hiring an insurance lawyer, it’s important to ask the right questions to ensure they are the right fit for your case. Here are key questions to ask:

  1. What experience do you have with insurance law?
Ensure the lawyer has specific experience handling cases involving your type of insurance, whether it’s auto, health, home, or business-related.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer works on contingency, hourly rates, or flat fees, and ask for an estimate of the total cost of your case.
  3. What is your success rate with insurance disputes?
Ask about the lawyer’s track record in winning or settling cases similar to yours.
  4. What are my chances of success?
A good lawyer will provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and outline the possible outcomes.
  5. How long will the process take?

How to Check the Credibility of an Insurance Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable insurance lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar license: Check with your state bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with no disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience in insurance law: Look at the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in insurance law and have experience with cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Search for reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s expertise and professionalism.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have dealt with similar insurance issues.
  • Check for industry memberships: Membership in organizations like the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) can indicate the lawyer’s focus on insurance law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an insurance lawyer, come prepared with the following documents and information:

  • A copy of your insurance policy: Bring the policy related to your claim or dispute so the lawyer can review the coverage details.
  • Any correspondence with the insurance company: Provide copies of letters, emails, or other communications between you and your insurer regarding the claim or denial.
  • Proof of claim and supporting documents: Bring any documentation you have submitted with your claim, including receipts, invoices, photos, medical records, or repair estimates.
  • List of questions: Prepare a list of questions you want to ask about your case, the legal process, and the potential outcomes.
  • Timeline of events: Be ready to provide a clear timeline of the incident that led to the claim and any steps you’ve taken with your insurance company.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can ensure that the lawyer has all the information they need to assess your case and provide the best legal advice.
