He's rude. I called twice about a sibling he was representing to find out details. As a woman I felt completely insulted and he did not even provide any salient details. Most uncaring conversation I have ever had with an attorney. Currently looking for another.

I HAVE HAD OCCASION OVER THE PAST TEN YEARS TO SEEK AND RECEIVE ASSISTANCE FROM JAMES HUNT CONCERNING HIS REPRESENTATION OF MY SON AND MY SELF IN CONJUNCTION WITH VIOLATION TO SEVERAL CRIMINAL ORDINANCES. ALTHOUGH THE REASON FOR THE CRIMES WAS SIMPLE. TEXAS LAWS ARE VERY FEW AND VAGUE REGARDING MENTAL ILLNESS DISABILITY AND THE DISPOSITION OF SUCH THINGS. AT THE TIME AND STILL TODAY WHILE THERE IS MUCH TALK OF SEPARATING THE CRIMINAL FROM THE MENTALLY DISABLED. THE LEGISLATORS WHO CAN CHANGE THINGS ARE NOT DOING SO. IN ORDER TO FIND HELP FOR OUR SITUATION WE WERE INDIRECTLY COERCED TO BREAK CERTAIN LAWS. THE ONGOING PRACTICE WE EXPERIENCED WAS: 1, CALL THE POLICE. 2. THE POLICE DETAINED THOSE CONCERNED AND TOOK THEM BEFOR THE MAGISTRATE FOR ASSIGNATION. 3. JAMES WAS CONTACTED AND THRU MANY MONTHS OF COMPASSIONATE EFFORT HELPED RRSOLVE OUR ISSUES WITH THE LAW AND DIRECTED US TO THE PROPER AGENCIES TO GUIDE US IN THE DIRECTION NEEDED. THE POINT IS IN THE PAST AND STILL TODAY FOR MANY OF US THE ONLY WAY TO SECURE HELP IS TO BREAK THE LAW . GET INTO "THE SYSTEM" GET A POLICE RECORD FOR THE VIOLATIONS AND AN ATTORNEY TO STEER YOU TO THE PROPER PEOPLE TO RECEIVE ASSISTANCE. TO DATE WE ARE 2 FREE PEOPLE WITH POLICE RECORDS FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO KNOW WHAT TO DO. IT IS NICE TO SEE THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND THE COUNTY SHERIFF TELL THE CITZENRY ON TV THAT THEY HAVE ESTABLISHED "MENTAL HEALTH UNITS" BUT WHEN WE REQUESTED THEIR AID AND RESPONSE WE WERE TOLD "CALL THIS NUMBER BETWEEN 9 TO 5." SADLY MANY OF THESE CASES OCCUR BETWEEN 5PM AND 9AM. SO IT IS OFF TO JAIL. THAT IS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH. OUR ONLY REST AND PEACE OF MIND CAME THRU JAMES WHO WORKED TIRELESSLY TO DIFUSE THE PROBLEMS. ADMITELY WE DID VIOLATE THE ORDINANCES BUT ONLY TO GET SOMONES ATTENTION FOR HELP. OUR NEXT GOAL IS TO GET THE POLICE RECORD EXPUNGED DUE TO EXTENUATING ISSUES. I PERSONALLY WAS CHARGED WITH DISCHARGING A FIREARM WITHIN A COMMUNITY OF GREATER THAN 500,000. REALITY: I FIRED MY GUN AT THE CEILING IN MY HOUSE FOR THE NOISE. TO GET EVERYBODYS ATTENTION. WELL THAT WORKED SOME. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT WE HAVE KNOW AND UTILIZED JAMES' TALENTS AND EDUCATION FOR OVER 10 YRS. AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO. I WOULD GIVE HIM AN AVVO RATING OF 9. I.LL SAVE THE 10 FOR WHEN THE LAWS ARE CHANGED. HARVEY W. ZOMBRO JR.

Mr. Heaney has represented me a few times. His fees are reasonable, especially when he decided to take one of my tickets through an appeals process, which he suggested would be in my best interest. We had to meet at two more court dates, but he never charged me more. He said it was part of his service. I gave him a gift card for a steak dinner when it was all done. It was the right thing to do after all he had done for me. I have confidentally referred him to others. He is busy, and because he is working on cases, he is not in his office much. He keeps in touch calling from his cell phone and and checking with his office. He and his office have always been the ones to stay in touch with me. He is a very nice man and pleasant to work with. I know he will take care of my unfortunate ticket situation which gives me much peace.

I was sued over a $1,000 medical bill. I would much rather have appreciated my attorney telling me from the beginning go ahead and pay the invoice. My LegalShield membership turned me on to Tim's firm. A paycheck was soaked up for almost the same value as what I settled on over a years time. The day before trial Tim told me I should go ahead and settle. I could type a five page article on why not to use the firm but I'll leave it at, good luck if you hire Tim.

If I could give 0 stars I would! My husband applied for an occupational license a month ago and had court today at 10am with Judge Alex Hernandez. As soon as my husband got up there the judge totally dismissed him in less than a minute! Not sure if the judge was in a bad mood but he was extremely rude the way he went about it all. We just moved out here a month ago and after today it sure is feeling like it’s a race thing on why he was treated the way he was today. My husband is not problematic person and works everyday so today was a joke! On top of it I paid $350 to be told TODAY that they don’t do occupational license here when clearly on the website states otherwise. This court system is a JOKE! Definitely can already tell it’s about WHO YOU KNOW here and courts just want to take your hard working money.

So let me just say that the court ordered Susan to be the amicus attorney for my 2 daughters for my divorce case in 2015. I was leaving a very violent situation where my spouse started to hurt our own daughters physically, verbally, and emotionally. She visited my daughters one day and when we went to mediation she told me that if I didn't agree at mediation she would testify at trial that I coached my daughters. She went an told my ex-husband that if he didn't agree she would testify that he was an aggressive man and that his daughters were at danger with him present. We both agreed to the terms due to her threats. In 2017 my ex physically and sexually assaulted my daughters which were his own. All thanks to this amicus attorney who could care less about the kids best interest. My daughters are damaged for life and have PTSD and major depression with suicide ideation. Police had to get involved and they had to be treated at The Children's Assessment center for the abuse they endured. I honestly hope no one hires this attorney for their kids. My daughters will nevwr be the same due to her dirty and unethical practice of law.

They relieved me from all the stress i was going thru. Up to right now they have done an exellent job dealing with not just one but with several cases in different counties. On top of all that the quote he gave me was super really good compared to all thus other attorneys i went before i found him. He also lets you work wirh him on payments and in case you are shorth he will give you the chanse to pay him what you can. The entire office is rude and has a terrible lack of communication. Actually, i take that back. It's not a terrible lack of communication it's actually non-existent. They NEVER follow through with what they say they'll do, and when you are forced to follow up with them due to their negligence, they have the nerve to be rude. And yes this includes the attorney Kenneth as well!! It's as if they're bothered that clients are actually expecting them to do the job that they've been paid to do! I would never in a million years refer anyone to this attorney nor do i wish to ever cross paths with them again.

She had a super easy case, open, shut, dismissed with me and she was so lazy that I got screwed. If you get her as a free attorney remember..with her you get what you pay for. If I could go back,I'd get a loan to pay money for a REAL lawyer. Everyone who has had her, had something bad to say, including many other attorneys. Amy was hired to represent child in a custody battle. She said she would see the child weekly and by herself and that never happened. She saw the child 1x alone and 1x with other parent present in the room. She doesn't care what children tell her or should tell her she doesn't want to hear it from them. She focus on things that are from a past and not things happening in the present. She has her own CPS worker that she is good friends with from a county that is not either party location to do the interview and they side with each other. She is not professional and she will tell you to do 1 thing then when she sends msg to judge its total opposite. I dont recommend that type lawyer for anyone. She needs to be reviewed on her family law values and stop getting by bc she donates to the children's protective agency. Seems like buying herself in . Bot professional at all and quite rude to ppl.

If you find this woman or are referred to her....run like the wind. I hired Joanne without doing the requisite due diligence. I don't know what I was thinking, other than I wasn't. Anger, stress, family problems....all were causing me to just "go" with the lawyer who appeared to have my best interest at heart. That was Joanne. She certainly can present as the caring, committed criminal lawyer. I can tell you that is a facade. I was charged with three felonies, and the case included a substantial issue regarding police misconduct. As an educated business owner, father, member of the community, I needed an aggressive lawyer who was uncompromising and could aggressively litigate my case. That meant going after the cops who fabricated a great deal of their "evidence." Joanne, I believed, was that woman. She sold me on her years as a DA (which I will discuss later), and apparently was the head of the local criminal defense bar (more on that later). However, when it came to working on the case, pressing the cops, addressing tough issues in court, I can describe her abilities as "tepid" at best. In short, she was completely ineffective, and I believe she chose to be so. And so, after having hired her having listened to her hard sell and experience, I concluded that she was a great sales person, but that's all. I made it clear from the beginning, that the cops lied. She wanted nothing to do with that issue AFTER she got my money. And so after my initial shock at the arrest and charging decision, and becoming disillusioned with her "tepid" defense in court, I did a little more investigation. I did not know it at the time, but her "partner" was her dad. He dad was a life long cop, turned criminal attorney in his old age. Not good. And so it began to gel. Joanne grew up in a house run by a cop, surrounded by cops. She chose to prosecute people and never had it in her to become a criminal defense lawyer. At the end of Dad's career, he saw dollar signs and he and his daughter went out on their own to "become" criminal defense lawyers. Got it. Therefore, the "tepid" defense in a police misconduct case. Had I know the extent of her law enforcement entanglements, I never would have hired her. She should stick to cases not involving allegations of bad police conduct. Ultimately, I hired a bulldog outsider lawyer - someone who wasn't raised in the law enforcement community of Houston, who warned me that the Houston Bar was far too intertwined and connected to cops and former DA's on the bench. I chose wisely. After much time, effort and aggressive advocacy from my outsider bulldog lawyer, I resolved my case for a misdemeanor. The comparison to Joanne's aggressive salesmanship in her office to her tepid advocacy in the courtroom, to my bulldog lawyer's "no bull" pitch at his office and aggressive advocacy in the courtroom is shocking. I made the right decision to end the relationship with the woman who grew up with Dad The Cop, surrounded by cops, working with cops, and prosecuting and then partnering with Dad The Cop. Never, hire this lawyer.

I contacted Mrs. Bowers in May and explained I had been arrested in Tarrant County on a possesion charge, while also on the final year of a 5 year felony probation out of Johnson County. I had already been contacted by Johnson Co. and told that regardless of the outcome in my Tarrant Co. case, they were filing to revoke my probation so I would have need also require an Attorney there because being charged with a crime is a violation even if you are found not guilty. Mrs. Bowers agreed to represent me in both cases but it would cost a little more than usual because of the MTR hearing being a seperate case even though it resulted from the same charge. I agreed to the price and gave her 50% down and would payment plan the remaing. Four months later (Thanksgiving Eve no less) while driving through Hood Co I get pulled over for a headlight warning and taken into custody and held without bond for Johnson Co. on a warrant for probation violation. Johnson Co. can't technically take me into custody until after the Tarrant Co. case has been been resolved. So I sit in Hood Co. jail for 58 days and I tried to call Mrs. Bowers at her office everyday to let her know what was happening and to let her know I had $500 on me when I was pulled over she could have and I would pay the final $500 2 weeks later. She never accepted my prepaid calls from Hood Co. Jail. Her secretary told my sister they couldn't discuss my case with her when I had her call. January 20th I am transfered to Tarrant Co. jail and I try every hour to call her office because I am told I will go to court in 30 days. I write several letters to Mrs Bowers granting permission to talk to my sister who I released my car and money and has the $1000 still owed to Mrs Bowers. Never hear anything back, and it is day of court and judge starts to give me a Public Defender and I tell him Mrs. Bowers has been my Attorney since the start and she was the one who kept postponing the case so I could keep working and going to NA meetings and counceling for the 4 months prior to Hood Co. The judge told me she was never listed as my Attorney of record which should have been done as soon as any payment is accepted. He rescheduled for 10 days later and said I had to accept public defender if she didn't show. She didn't and I took advise of public defender and accepted 60 days county jail in return for no contest plea. I had already been in custody for over 3 months so the judge said they were giving me time served and releasing my to Johnson Co. 3 days later while still waiting for Johnson Co. to pick me up, I receive a letter from Mrs. Bowers that says she is no longer willing to represent me and that they had not been aware I had been in custody since November. That was all, no further explination why, I asked my sister to contact her office since I had already written permission to discuss with her. I asked my sister to let Mrs. Bowers know I wanted her for my Motion to Revoke hearing or I wanted my money back. Mrs. Bowers refused to discuss either option with my sister even after I provided Notarized written authorization. When I got to Johnson Co. I was given a photocopied piece of notebook paper with writting that was not legible and was told it was my public defenders name and contact info. When I asked the guard who gave it to me what it said he was not able so I filed a complaint. Finally 6 days later the Assistant Warden was able to find out the info. Evidently a whole lot of people were disturbed because my public defender didn't provide her info typed up on letterhead like a normal person and when I met her (3 minutes before the hearing) she was hostile towarfds me and suggested I accept 20 month prison sentence. The max sentence for my charge is 2 years and I have been in jail 9 months but she says I will only get credit for 3 months so I tell the judge and she yells out it was a misunderstanding. I settle for 15 months w/ 9 months credit. Still want explination & refund Randy!

This law firm engaged in fraud, and deceitful practices in my personal injury case. They are also dishonest, and deceptive in their practices. I just filed grievances against Tom Crosley, Steven Nunez, and Brennan Jenkins. I also had to report them to the authorities for stealing & misappropriating funds from a settlement. Lastly, this firm can't be trusted. They withdrew from my case one month before trial because the lawyer wanted to go to Japan for personal reasons. The most dishonorable group of attorneys that I've ever met hands down. The case has now been settled, & get this, Tom Crosley is trying to bill me for expert witnesses even though he never Nunez did any depositions, & I'm not going to trial. This attorney violated my constitutional rights by bullying or coercing me into accepting a low settlement or withdrawing. This guy, Crosley, & Nunez are total scammers. I will be uploading documents for proof very soon. Find a law firm that posts reviews from actual clients, not former employees like this scammer, Crooked Crosley. This law firm stole $37K from my family. Crosley also scammed me out of an additional $10K by sending a doctor to my home for 15 minutes. Dr. Brandon Goff was also part of this scam, he was supposed to write me a life plan that I never received, & was never able to use because the lawyer Crosley was in on the scam & withdrew. They never planned on taking my case to trial. It was a total waste of time dealing with this law firm.

This guy Bruno Shimek was all like "I don't have a file on her. You know, went through and looked at all those, and she's not a person that-- you know, Robin Stewart I represented, Aaron Stewart, Eric Stewart. I've checked all those, but not Erma." But his name was on Erma Faye Stewart's plea agreement, okay, so I guess he's incompetent AND a liar. THEN, this so-called confidential informant that they had over in Robertson County that got 27 people indicted basically was not reliable because he was whack-a-doo and had a long history of psychiatric disorders and the DA threw out all of the cases, exceppt for the people who had already plead to reduced charges. Those people got screwed because basically it came out that this guy was a fraud, but they still had to do their probation and pay fines and have permanent records because he rushed them into a plea. Mr. Shimek had he even done like a tiny scintilla of inquiry he would have realized that the sole witness was fruit loops and then could have gone to the DA like "Yo, your witness is F'd up and I'm gonna wreck him on the stand. My client isn't pleading to caca. We're going to trial you cacahuate!" But instead he just rolled over. And he didn't even tell Erma to get a better hat. That's how bad his advice was both legal and fashion. But seriously, if my dog got a ticket from animal control I would not let the dog judge appoint mr. shimek as his lawyer for dog court. I would definitely pay money to retain a real lawyer dog.

Hired Mr. Garcia to represent me for an accident I was in. He handled my case professionally and answered all my questions. He settled my case for more money than I thought I was going to get. He provided me with excellent service and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Horrible!!! I paid for a contract which they claimed would take 10-15 minutes to complete, since it is something that can be completed super-fast. We then received a call 3 days later and they stated that they could not complete the contract but that they could not return our money back because they had worked on it. Are you kidding me??? They claimed that their time is valuable, but what about my time? I paid for “Professional” services but I got the most unprofessional treat, it’s been almost 2 weeks and I Never got at least an apology from this guy or the contract I paid for. I ended up doing the contract by myself. I do not recommend this business at all!!!!!!

Mr. Jaworski handled a case for a close friend of mine, with excellent results. My friend insisted that I get in touch with Mr. Jaworski. At this point, I have worked with him on a limited basis, but have researched his advise and find him to be knowledgeable and on target. I have worked with several attorneys in the past and have found Mr. Jaworski to be personable, respectful and knowledgeable. He answers questions with patience as he tries to educate the client. He does not condescend or make the client feel rushed. After my previous experiences, he has quickly commanded (notice I did not say "demanded") my respect.

This attorney handled a custody case for me. He had no idea what he was doing and custody case went on for over a year. He did not know that mediation was required and had no knowledge of custody cases in general. The case dragged on while Mr. Jaworski collected money and did nothing. With 30+ years of experience in law, I thought I was getting an experienced, knowledgeable attorney. I was disappointed. After 1 year and no progress in the case, I hired another attorney and he got the job done in two weeks. I could not believe how quickly the process could have been. I would definitely not recommend Jaworkski. He might be a good criminal lawyer, but DEFINITELY avoid him for family law.

He refuses to give any personal attention and is very defensive to discuss the case with. He didn’t want to fight at all for the case just wanted to be done with it. Worst experience of my life and terrified if I had kept him as counsel since he seems to be against the client. That’s not how they’re suppose to treat any of they’re clients in this manner or shouldn’t handle criminal law. Not wanting him to sugar coat it but be in my side and willing to put in the work to fight for your case not throw you away. He won’t answer questions and impossible to get ahold by cell/text, email and office phone and he makes his own appointments not legal secretary so takes long time to see him.

Ray did an amazing job helping my daughter with a problem. He was busy, and sometimes it was difficult to get in touch with him, but he kept up with filing papers and meeting deadlines. His efforts were successful and our problems were solved successfully. I highly recommend him, and he is already working on another small issue for us.

susan edwards was a great lawyer, so i thought. she was attentive, and she seemed to follow through with her word. i thought i had got so lucky seeing how she and i came to cross paths..... she was my court appointed attorney. all i knew of "court appointed" attorneys was what i saw in movies and had "heard" from a few girls i met years before, needless to say, it was not encouraging. susan edwards is a lawyer of the worst kind, she led me on to believe i was in good hands, then dumped me off to a stranger for personal gain........i also thought she was "helping" me out with a personal issue, and with that one she just disappeared. and one of my cases ended very badly, and the other is still floating around while i continue to get screwed. do not trust susan edwards

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
