Chris recently spoke on the phone with my wife during a free phone consultation session. Chris made hurtful comments to her such as "sounds like you can't afford me" and "maybe they just don't like you" - referring to the School District people. My wife is Hispanic and what he said to my wife, was hurtful, rude and obnoxious. Who does he think he is? Are we small people not worthy of his mightiness? My wife asked questions about specific laws and Chris didn't seem to know much about them, despite being an advocate to children's rights. He's a white man, my wife is Hispanic, asking for help, being told she can't afford him. Well, we can. But we won't ever hire anyone from this company because of Chris' hurtful comments. My wife was in distress and we were both stunned by his attitude. We asked ourselves: 'did he sound racist towards us?'.

Consultation: told fees would be $3000 retainer and $300 to $400 hourly rate. Lawyer informed me I sounded like I would not be able afford it. This he based solely on my voice: a voice with a heavy ethnic, non-European accent. Never was my household income discussed at any one point or did he ever pose a question about my household income. It was solely based on presumption. However, indeed these quoted hourly rates are at the high end of hourly fees charged by attorneys. They are above the average rate. I suppose, in the wealthy Seattle areas is where is feasible. I explained my reason for needing a lawyer was due to retaliatory treatment from the school district after complaining about mistreatment against my Special Needs child. His response was: "sounds like they just don't like you, sounds like you have annoyed them". (imagine one gets beaten up by someone and one is told, sounds like you got beaten up because they don't like you, because you annoyed them, as though one would be deserving of being beaten up because they just don't like one).

I recently had the pleasure of working with Randy L. Jameson, Jr, and I can't recommend them highly enough. I was facing a potentially serious traffic ticket that could have had major implications for my driving record and insurance rates. From the very start, Randy L. Jameson, Jr was incredibly professional, attentive, and reassuring. Their deep understanding of traffic law and expert negotiation skills led to the dismissal of my case, which was an outcome I hadn't anticipated. They took the time to explain the process thoroughly, answered all my questions, and kept me informed every step of the way. If you're in need of a dedicated and knowledgeable traffic lawyer, look no further than Randy L. Jameson, Jr. Their expertise truly made a difference in my situation, and I am extremely grateful for their outstanding service.

Emailed a few times, maybe 3 times, in regard to a refund on the remainder of a payment I made for services not received. I was not rude in any of them but firm on wanting the refund and inquiring when that would be. Lance called me with reasons why I “disregarded” the agreement I signed. I said I want to know if I will be receiving a refund or not from the firm, otherwise, I would do my part on recovering the remainder of funds. He then states, “I guess this ends our working relationship, idk who else you’ll complain to” I’m not sure why Lance felt comfortable enough to speak to me in this manner but I don’t appreciate it and I would advise against hiring someone who is rude for no apparent reason. Update since last review. Unfortunately ABC law is a scam, Ponzi scheme within the court system. They work with local authorities and state governments and county officials to ensure they benefit themselves over the client and what’s right. ABC law has extremely bad communication from their office staff to their attorneys and poor to no court room experience. ABC law fraudulently represent their clients with unlicensed and poorly experienced lawyers and attorneys. ABC law does not provide accurate information about time and cost of services. ABC law is still holding money from my retainer and has not returned my calls. This is not a disgruntled employee, but a disgruntled customer who is leaving a accurate and reliable review. ABC knew that my case was going to be a flop because the other Party filed wrong but they took my retainer and acted like they were going to do something knowing the judge was not going to hear the case because it was filed incorrectly. inadequate representation Also failing to inform and recognize several important factors of conflicting representation!

Cam was my divorce attorney in 2016. Cam over books herself and is worn out. Cam did not have time for me and would not call me back for several days. When she finally called back she was rushed and irritated.. She was unkind and condescending to me, just what you do not need while going through a stressful divorce. After 3 months of a horrible experience I had to drop her. When I sent her an email telling her this she immediately wrote the court and said she dropped me! She did nothing to make my case progress and she took $10k from me. She did not protect me and left me worse off than if I had never hired her. I feel it is my responsibility to let others know my experience.

It is beyond ridiculous how incredible this woman is. Dynamic, articulate, a fireball, knows my case inside and out, available when needed, passionate for my children, forthright with what is possible and what would be a stretch to ask for, all in all she has helped me find my spine again after years of being torn down by my ex. She reminds me what my kids deserve and my right to fight for them and they're overall wellbeing. Would hire her again in a heartbeat and trust her abilities even if it was a murder charge. What a lady!!!!!

Cam’s strength, compassion, knowledge, and persistence were unbelievable. Time and time again, whether it was in the courtroom, on the phone, corresponding on email, or in a room face to face; she took control, and always made it happen. Highly ethical, her interpersonal skills and legal expertise combined with her no nonsense approach is a formula for success. And, her assistant Deb is phenomenal. The team, is one to watch! I am, and will always be forever grateful to Cam and Deb. Their patience, respect, and positive perspective, as I struggled to get back on my feet in a very complex case, was truely a life saver. The complications of divorce, restraining orders, bankruptcy, and foreclosure were handled with the utmost professionalism and collaboration. Cam is simply the very best. Excellence defined!

I hired Sidney in 2014 to help me with a messy parenting plan. The amount of time and consideration she put into my case was extensive but she never complained. I will never forget the day she called me on a Sunday to see if the visit went as planned, she truly cares about her clients! She also won me the right to continue to take my son to church every Sunday, that's. It something that happens often in the court room but she made it happen. If you want a lawyer who cares about you and your case, Sidney Dolquist is your lady.

People, Remember that this is a free service. The handfull of hard working humans here aren't overpaid, cutthroat, ambulance chasers. FIRST- Get your ducks in a row & get your issue narrowed down to Problem, Dates, times, ppl you've spoje to. Then 2nd-Call the number given you and leave your info. 3rd- If your issue is really big and has time restraints, perhaps you should look into someplace where you pay on a sliding income scale. The employee that answers the VOICE MSGS is Friendly, kind, empathetic and reap ppl (But not an attorney nor able to give legal advice.) They also see ppl at the Snohomish County Courthouse in Everett on Tues-Thurs between the hours of 9am-2pm(?) It's on their OGMsg. NO APPTS ITS ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. Be prepared to be searched by security upon entering into the area you'll be going to, too. Pay a couple dollars to park in their underground parking. The state should really help them out by perhaps getting them some more employees. It's like they never heard of the Pandemic! OK. STAY OUTTA TROUBLE, DON'T BREAK THE LAW and you won't need to deal with it 😁

I hear a lot of bad experiences with lawyers here but I recommend anyone who has been through subpar representation here to do your research on Jane Pak. She is a FANTASTIC CEO, and she took the time to have a thorough and excellent conversation with me about some concerns I had about two of her lawyers. She protected her employees and really highlighted how awesome it is that they do this without the pay they deserve in a way that helped me see the situation clearly and that it was similar to my own as another CEO of a nonprofit. She really highlighted star work from Adam and was an awesome advocate for her lawyer that represented me who clearly needed a lot training on some of the niche issues of my case. Though I don't think my representation deserved her generosity and it could jeopardize the safety of vulnerable people to continue to be generous with a lawyer you have to fight to defend you properly, and she has had that made excessively clear to her by myself through facts and evidence regarding this lawyer, I think it's awesome that she's willing to learn and train them in good faith and hope they can change. She ran the meeting with the utmost clarity, excellence and competence. She listened with utmost respect and treated me with the utmost respect in a way that made me feel safe speaking about a very distressing situation of revictimization by the system. I am rating this organization five stars solely for Jane Pak because she is a truly excellent CEO and she deserves to be running a five star company if she were respected duly. I hope that happens more and more for her.

Emily has been very considerate of out financial needs through this long and painful process. She has gone out of her way to find ways to get her job done as effectively as possible without breaking the bank. You can tell she spends time working diligently doing research and complaining information into a clear presentation of where her time was spent. Never muddled around doing unnecessary tasks and always prepared me for the different possibilities of every court session. She has always taken great care to make sure I always knew what was going on. Her values reflect ours which is why we've been working with her three years now. We are so thankful she has been so considerate and for sticking with us on such an annoying case.

I hired her to help me with my dissolution and custody case she was fine the first week but after that she wouldn't get back to my e-mails, phone calls, or texts for weeks at a time. She didn't file papers that needed filled and set me even farther back then I started. She even told me the day before I had court to be there and then an hour before my court time told me it was cancelled and then proceeded with the hearing without me but was texting me from the court room telling me what was going on in the courtroom. She is the reason my kids were sent back into an physically, mentally, and sexually abusive home with their father. Then on top of that she had the nerve to try and bill me for her doing nothing but screwing up my case more then it already was. To this day I am still trying to fight to get my kids out of that environment.

Do not go to TMAnderson for your legal problems. After paying a few thousand dollars for a representative in a case where I wasn’t able to make the court date, I was just met with stress and stupidity from the firm. After delaying my court date, I had randomly received a phone call alerting me that I have a mandatory court appearance the next morning, them being completely oblivious to the fact that I had already mentioned that I cannot make it due to living on the other side of the state. When I appeared via zoom call last minute, the judge on the case tore into Tom Dunn, my representative, for failing to provide any signed documents stating I approved of the zoom appearance, as well as failing to provide evidence of my completed traffic course of which I sent evidence to weeks in advance. After court, I wasn’t given any instruction to the process of paying the fines and was ignored by Elizabeth Fish and Tom Dunn when I sent countless emails asking about the payment process. Elizabeth Fish had a horrible attitude when she wasn’t ignoring my emails or phone calls, and I still haven’t heard anything from Tom Dunn. When requesting for some sort of reimbursement for their lack of effort, I was met with a email telling me that it wasn’t possible, and that basically my thousands of dollars had gone down the drain.

We secured Gary's service to protect our rights and our family from CPS, an agency who I found shows no respect for the law or our rights as citizens. Normally you would think you wouldn't have to get a lawyer if you were not in the wrong. Unfortunately that is not the case and this agency threatened us and tried to manipulate us several times throughout their "investigation". We were told they wanted access to our home to search for weapons and that we would need to answer all of their questions or risked having our four children taken from the home. This all was over my 15 year old son getting in a fight with another kid from school resulting in a black eye. Long story short Gary shut them down with his knowledge of the law and experience dealing with their corrupt tactics. I truly feel sorry for the low income families that this CPS agency clearly takes advantage of.

Mr. Preble listened to my case and seemed to know instinctively that the allegations against me were ridiculous and unfounded. There can be nothing worse than a CPS allegation. Mr. Preble seemed to intuitively understand the failures of such a system (CPS) and demonstrated consistent and an unwavering support of our rights as parents and as a nuclear family. Mr. Preble was accessible and explained each step of the process in terms that we could understand, avoiding too much legalese. He was respectful of cost. He demonstrated professionalism. He infused humor to ease the anxiety. He provided reassurance to help us navigate one of the most torturous experiences we have ever had to endure. Mr. Preble's staff were knowledgeable. They always provided answers to our questions and always made us feel welcome. We prevailed against CPS. We are so grateful to Mr. Preble for taking our case and seeing us through the process with grace, faith and dignity.

Ann had became my attorney during a dependency case of my child as well as myself. I am going to be honest and say at first I had my doubts I have a hard time trusting people as it is, but over time Ann has proved herself multiple times for me to put my full trust in her. She has stood very strong in some very difficult battles in court hearings, meetings etc. She knew what she was doing and knew the game plan. When I felt everyone else was against me she made sure that she kept her spot and stood her grounds and was a very great support. She understood me, listened to me, and made sure I got to speak my voice and be heard. I worked with her for a few years and I can say I am more than pleased with the outcome. Professionalism and intelligence is something she does have and she Is great at what she does. I would recommend her who has any legal issues consult with her she will get the job done, and she will make sure your side is heard and you get to speak your voice and fight for you for real. I appreciate the time I got to spend with her and I appreciate all the help she has been to me and my children. I would give her a 10 rating star

This attorney represented me as a mother in Dependency and Family Law Court. Given she was my court appointed attorney for Dependency court and from that moment I struggled with her intelligence, integrity and morals. She encouraged me to embellish the truth and not to include anything positive regarding the father of my child. She asked me not to presume a good thing and to accuse anything that we could think of. She consistently perjured herself in the depositions that she assisted me on, and I am still pondering if I am going to report her to the Washington State Bar. She also shows up to trial looking very besheveled and almost a little out of it and during my case the other court appointed attorneys clearly outsmarted her at every point. She is slow to respond and doesn't make a lot of sense. Please be aware and call and check on her references. I feel that she embellishes on those.

Suzanne has represented me in several different cases. Each result has been in my favor. Her preparedness and knowledge were such that the other side had little or no chance at victory. She kept me "in the loop" each and every step of the way, telling me what to expect and reminding me to stay on track. She's ethical, and informed. She will tell you how it is and will also tell you when to settle your case so it does not drag on forever. She is tenacious and will not give up. Everyone knows horrible lawyers whose sole purpose seems to be billing hours. Suzanne Bartleson provides her clients with good value for her time, excellent knowledge of the law (in several different areas), and a strong work ethic. I have recommended her services to many people in the Spokane community who have used and relied on her law skills. I would give her 6 stars, but there are only 5.

i hired her based on the add in the yellow pages which indicates caring about children. i meet with her for free consultation and decided to hire her. at that time she indicated to me that i should seek 50% custody of our 6yr old son based on my work schedule which allows me availability to be a parent. one day after i hired her, my wife had her attorney file and serve a temporary dissolution. i was told that i needed to write a response to the dissolution to also be filed. i was not given any instruction to achieve this but was able to get the information from the internet. we emailed my response back and forth to edit it. i virtually wrote about 80- to 90% of the documents. at one point i questioned the condition of her edits and was told defensively that she had to spend 3 hours rewriting my documents because they were poor. i doubt that. when we meet with my wife and her attorney to file our legal seperation the next week, i asked ms. bartelson about the 50% custody and she told me that if either party is not in agreement that 50% custody would not occur. i told her that if she had told me that early on, i would not have requested it because i knew my wife would never allow it. this also caused my wife to get overly aggressive. at the time of our filing the legal seperation, i had agreed to move out of our home within 30 days. at the filing i was given documents to sign but was rushed and really not able to review them. the one that i should have reviewed was my child support schedule. the documents were filled out incorrectly and caused me to have to pay $200 more in child support each month. ms. Bartelson was aware of the correct figures but allowed the opposing attorney to use her schedule which was based on a copy of a worksheet that i had filled out incorrectly during our edit process.my wife retrieved the copy off my email account and provided it to her attorney. a big issue that i stated to ms. bartelson was that i needed to have access to the shop at our house for the winter to store things during the divorce process. once the legal seperation occured, my wife began a process of harrassment which i saw that i could not stay in our home for the 30 days i was given. i immediately moved out and my wife and her attorney began requesting that i vacate the shop also. ms. bartelson contacted me several times about this issue even after i stated to her that it was not possible and that it was the only agreement that i asked her to maintain. there were a few more motions filed by my wifes attorney which were resolved by agreement. i hired ms. bartelson in the beginning of oct and by mid dec. i reviewed my support schedule and realized that i was paying $200 more on my support than was needed. i called ms. bartelson to discuss my feelings about her short comings with my case but before i could list the multiple issues she cut me short and said she needed to remove herself from the case.at that time there was a motion in court to allow my wife to take our son on a winter vacation for three weeks. i was opposed to this because my time with him was reduced to 20% visitation and i wanted him to stay with me for the 3 weeks.she abandoned me at a critical point. in 2 1/2 months i spent $4,500 utilizing ms. bartelson and i spent $1000 in child support overage which i never recooperated. where divorce attorneys feel that they are due $200 - $250 per hour to provide poor service or to charge you for their time when you call to see why they are not working on your case. i spent an extra $2,800 on my next attorney which did absolutely no legal work but was to help file my finalized "mediated" dissolution. the $2800 was spent on me calling his legal aid from feb. to june to see why the divorce was not finalized. in the end, the majority of the dissolution documents that were signed and filed were from my original documents. my wifes attorney used my drafts. something is wrong with spokane's divorce attorneys.

I cannot thank Renee enough for the excellent work she has done for me. I, along with countless others had been wrongfully convicted of felony possession charges. A recent court ruling found these charges to be unconstitutional. Within 2 short weeks time, Renee successfully had the court vacate from my record, the felony conviction that had loomed over me for the past 25 years. I have been blessed by her hard work and will be forever grateful for her dedication to righting this wrong on my behalf.

She charged me $5000 for some email exchanges and when we went to court she didn't fight for or even request any of the requests I had hired her to fight for in my custody case. Her facebook is very unprofessional and she bragged about drinking the night before my case. Bad lawyer bad person.

Tarah was assigned to me for a contempt motion but I ended up hiring her to fight an unethical opposing lawyer. Without her I would have been railroaded by opposing council from a big name firm. Tarah knew all the laywer's tricks and fought for me and my kids. It's taken almost 2 years but there's an end in sight and Tarah has been worth EVERY penny!!

I have been around some bad people throughout my lifetime, but Tara Wagner is the most atrocious human we have ever associated with. She treated my wife like a dog and made her feel awful about herself. She would yell at her and degrade her for asking simple questions. It reminded my wife of the abusive relationship she was in prior to me with her daughters father. Tara has major anger issues and extreme bouts of rage when she doesn't get her way or you annoy her. I am not surprised at all by her negative reviews on here stating that she is a narcissist and that she is being investigated. I do find it astonishing that she has not had her license revoked yet, but I have no doubt in my mind especially with all of these horrendous reviews that she will. Narcissistic people make great attorneys. The one review states that she is a "master of deception". That's exactly why narcissists make great attorney's. Do yourself and your mental health a big favor by avoiding this very horrible human.

Gregory Scott literally saved my life and career from devastation. He was diligent in his pursuit of finding the facts to prove false information that was reported by the arresting officer. He was always friendly and gave good advice. He presented my case thoroughly and with professionalism, and his closing statement was well-planned and very effective. I had no idea how to find an attorney to handle my case, and interviewed at least a dozen attorneys before I found him. I felt like I was in good hands from the first time I met him. I felt like I could trust him and that he truly cared about the outcome of my situation. He's a little expensive but he worked out a payment plan for me that fit within my budget. And he was worth every dime. I would highly recommend him.

Hire at your own risk because the only person doing his job is his assistant or sister in this case. Never arrested in my life and party to a set-up DV, where I was the actual victim, I was railroaded out the gate. "Promised" Police reports, CAD recordings, expert witnesses who he never called, continuance after continuance, never providing the court one motion in my defense while the county prosecutors went on a witch hunt for a year (all the while my child parentally kidnapped), mysteriously never brought crucial evidence to trial, failed to cross examine YPD (example: officer 3 stating I resisted arrest- did not happen and I had never seen this police officer in my life - I would have remembered as I was handcuffed w/o cause, stuffed in the police car and driven off immediately before I even knew what was happening, again this was the FIRST TIME I HAD BEEN ARRESTED IN MY LIFE), spent my huge retainer on having me investigated and my father to qualify whether he'd have issues when he threw the trial or my case, couldn't even print one glossy photo of my injuries, I literally had to pull out my own exhibits at trial, he was NOT PREPARED! Smooth talker and definitely part of the good old boys club, lied to me about the progress of my case or things he was going to do and never did and lead me down one path, then took another and concealed his alliance with the prosecutors. Should be brought up on charges by the WA State Bar for unethical billing (no statements or progress reports), ineffective assistance in a HAT, misconduct and breeching client privilege!

I used Wendy for a short period of time during my divorce case, she did not file paperwork on time, was very hard to get ahold of, and advised me to take the first settlement offer my ex proposed which gave him the house, cars, bank accts basically everything and she told me this was the best we could get. I quickly determined she DOES NOT have my best interests in mind and hired another attorney who represented me well and came to a fair settlement splitting everything 50/50

I gave her five thousand dollars for my son's case, which she never did her job. She did not file any paper work with the court, and she is really terrible about returning phone calls. This attorney has moved up to three times without contacting her clients. My advice is not to hire this attorney at all.

Wendy helped me through the divorce process and was very responsive, attentive and in the end she was able to help me negotiate a settlement that both myself and my X wife could agree to. Wendy was always timely in responses and in filing documents which helped the process move quickly for me. I would recommend Wendy to anyone looking for an attorney they can trust. Thank you Wendy!

Disappointing and discouraging. Sent an email July 28th requesting a consultation. No reply. Spoke with receptionist on July 31, left message for call back. No reply. Called again on August 3rd, spoke with receptionist who tried to connect me with Derek. He was unavailable. Was told he would call me later in the day. Shortly thereafter received a brief email that he wasn't taking on any new landlord/tenant clients. I only requested a one hour meeting to get some answers to questions. In my opinion, very unprofessional.

I hired Mr.Myers for 10,000 dollars produced all the evidence for my case to make a great case and most likely win. Well months before trial the prosecutor dropped all charges and I was a free man and I only met with Stan twice for a total of 1 1/2 hrs so I asked to have some of my money back because we didn’t need to go to trial and he told me no because of how much work he did…I never saw that work honest definitely not 10k worth of work but that’s not the best part. So two months later the state refiles charges on me so I go to talk to Stan and ask about why and what we should do and he refuses to answer any calls or speak with me he finally sent a letter to my house saying he completely fulfilled his duty to me and now refuses to be my attorney and won’t tell me why he’s a slimy attorney and person that has zero morals ….. And best for last my crime was against a Native American and come to find out he was the chief judge of that tribe so he figured that out and was in cahoots with the prosecutor to drop charges then take my money so then I’d be stuck with a public defender when they refiled charges if you can believe that he’s a terrible lawyer and person I DONT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE he’s a scheming corrupt lawyer!!

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
