Attorneys we worked with: Laura Hoexler and Greg Pittman, front desk staff Trish Reitan: They did our will and this is the WORST experience I've ever had with a law firm. After being a client of about 10 years and having them draft my will, I cannot recommend this firm. I felt that there was a serious lack of professionalism here. When we came in to sign our will, it was so messed up and not what we had asked for. Important details were left out that had been requested. They then forgot about me and my wife for 7 weeks. We had to finally remind them we existed and that they owed us resolution on our will and trust. Then they tried to bill us to fix the mistakes made in drafting it. This was just a mess and I will never do business with this firm again nor recommend them. Here is some advice: learn how to be accountable and apologize to a longstanding client if they do you the courtesy to tell you about their bad experience. This review comes regrettably after months of back and forth with their administrative staff.

When I think of my time with Cindy Wysocki, Esq., tears of deep gratitude literally come to my eyes as I recall her strength and gentleness, her humor and sharp critical thinking, her willingness to get into the ultimate fighting cage we call the judicial system and her reluctance to throw a punch, and her commitment to fairness and open-hearted compassion. To the lawyer or firm across the virtual table, Cindy must seem formidable and relentless. To me as her client-friend, she was comforting, encouraging, and grounding. I never had to yield my voice or stuff down my questions. AND, Cindy held my concerns and fears, my heightened emotions and (sometimes) clear intuitive insights respectfully while guiding them in positive, productive ways. And best of all, Cindy knew me well enough at the end of a grueling process to be able to then assist and guide me in my needs to safeguard my estate and financial assets to be sure to leave them secure for the ones I love the most. Above all, I am forever grateful to Cindy for accompanying me as a caring fellow human being during one of the most devastating times of my personal life journey. She stayed by my side through unprecedented conditions, with unconditional care and concern, as one of the few who did in my life. Cindy is a legal Bodhisattva!!

I love sending my clients to Cindy! I know she cares deeply about helping them navigate divorce in a way that will leave everyone feeling whole and hopeful about the future. Her focus on creating durable parenting plans that center kids, while appreciating the uniqueness of the each family, makes referring her to parents a no-brainer for me.

I was a trial lawyer for 30 years but never thought I would need one myself, until I was injured in a dog attack. After careful research I retained Bill Broughton to represent me. He and his legal assistant Kelly were terrific, and they procured a settlement well beyond what I thought was possible. Bill was diligent, tenacious, caring, and thoroughly professional, and the deft touch with which he negotiated with the insurance adjustor was a thing of beauty. He and Kelly are consummate professionals and kind, decent people. Highest possible recommendation.

As a business owner, consumer, politically and socially independent and non-partisan activist, I have hired many attorneys over a period of 50 years. I have sued but never been sued, and I have avoided many situations that could end in legal trouble, such as estate issues, divorce, guardianship, contracts, real estate, by being careful about the law and lawyers. Most lawyers stink, but I hold my nose and consult with them because seemingly everything has connections to law in one way or another. Here is my take on 50 years of damned lawyers: 1. 20% of attorneys are excellent, but most range from mediocre to bad. Most are not good case managers because they are detail-constipated; they pick through the legal wording and have chronic and serious trouble seeing the forest for the trees. One real estate attorney I hired spent months exchanging letters with another attorney, picking endlessly over every letter of every word, and at $500 per letter. 2. Most attorneys slip easily into being rude, contentious, domineering and abrupt, and not infrequently abusive outright. They don't teach respect or courtesy in law school, and the field attracts many bullies, greedy, ill-mannered and argumentative misfits. Unless your case has a fat pay-day for them, like big accident/injury cases, your business won't motivate them to treat you even 1/10 as well as you are treated at a reputable retailer. 3. Law school costs a fortune so, even if they wanted to, they have to charge a lot of money. This is why only the well off can afford lawyers and pursue their interests. Aa for life for the majority, you are well advised to always carry a jar of K-Y, stay out of the big city, and stay home after dark. 4. Most lawyers are cynical and, behind your back or in your face, sneer, discount, or dismiss outright the average person's sense of fair play, integrity or justice. 3. Many lawyers are ignorant. The usual case is like this: Well, Mr. Smith, I will have to research this issue and it will take X-hours. Have another question for your lawyer and that means more hours on your bill. This is usually the case even when they specialize in the area of law your want guidance on. Imagine you go to a car mechanic and he says, well, I will have to study the problem, at $350 an hour for a number of hours--and then decide on a course of action to repair your car. An attorney who claimed to be a HOA expert, a Phil Havers of Silverdale, charged me hundreds of dollars to research whether it was legal for equal members of an HOA to pay different dues. Well, it was right there in the law, plain as day according to another attorney. Havers never did figure it out. 4. Many lawyers are foggy headed drunks who love drinking their lunches. In a law magazine I read, 18% of attorneys admitted to drinking too much. That is triple the rate in the general population. 5. Some attorneys are crooks. When my brother died, his attorney churned and milked his account for YEARS. He knew one of my brother's wills was not legal because it was not witnessed, but he went on robbing from it. His name was Bruce Gardiner of Kirkland. When we got on Bruce, he actually hired another crooked attorney to help him, an Eric Jeppesen of Bellevue. In conclusion, I found this law firm to be the just more of the same rude, money-wasting, and ill-informed. I found its snooty representative to be as "pleasant" to talk with as I would some guy laying on a sidewalk in Seattle. Trust me, you can do better, although better as a rule means going to the high quality guys in the high-rises in Seattle.

Constantly forgets to send you paperwork, puts you behind on all proceedings. He always said "My paralegal never sent that to you?" when asked and than would get the documents 2-3 days later still. He was always on "travel", hard to reach. Simply by the book and willing to give as much to the other person and will do bare bones to support you. Overall wish I would of hired one that actually cared and would inform me of things. I had to wait 30 days to even get paperwork that the court case was done and that is cause I asked for them. I was never going to be told or sent any documents on it otherwise. EDIT: Before he comments. Please take note. I am not the first person to complain about it. It is a business he will claim it doesn't represent fair review. Others said same as i did above.

“I went to Don Schirm a few years ago to help with my divorce. It was an ugly divorce against a very vindictive person. Don was there every step of the way. He offered not only guidance throughout the divorce proceedings but also listened to me when I just needed to vent. I have reached out several times since then, and he is always willing and able to help. If you need an attorney for a family law matter, please put your faith in him.”

You’d be lucky to have Leanne Martinez on your team. She came highly recommended from a friend of a friend. I came to her after feeling helpless from another law firm. The previous law firm did very little and was incredibly hard to get ahold of. Leanne was the exact opposite. She’s incredibly smart, asks very in depth questions, very well prepared and overall will make you feel like you matter. She was easy to get ahold of and always calls/ emails back. I’m incredibly grateful for her and her team. You can’t go wrong with her on your legal team.

I was lost in the sea of legal family law paperwork, thinking I could do it on my own. I needed help. Meredith took the time to listen to me, understand what was going on, where I was at in the process and what I wanted to accomplish. She offered several options, everything from; here is your recommended next step to be able to continue on my own, to offering various levels of assistance for me to choose from. She was very conscious of my budget. She took the time to explain the process and set expectations. So thankful for her putting me at ease, sharing her knowledge and experience to get my situation handled in an effortless manner.

I would NOT recommend this lawyer. My documents were full of errors that I had to point out and have her correct and then get charged for fixing the mistakes that she made. My name was spelled incorrectly on the final separation paperwork that was recorded with the courts. When I asked her to change the name, she told me "It didn't matter, because it was right every place else and if I wanted my name changed, that I would have to pay for it" She had to change a single word in a document and charged me 1/2 to do it. If you do decide to hire her, be very wary.

Dissolution of Marriage has to be one of the more difficult challenges for an attorney to handle these days. Mrs Graff was excellent. She fully explained the process and time line of events. Handled all the paperwork correctly which created an outcome that met everyone’s expectations. At this point I wouldn’t feel comfortable using any other attorney whenever the need arises because she has set the bar to a higher standard. Thanks Meredith!

I will never forget the fears that I felt when I went through my dependency back in 09. I hated myself for my mistakes and I no longer believed in myself. Mr. Wogsland never was too busy to work for or with me. He walked me through my case and fought tooth and nail throughout the entire process. He wouldn't let me allow the state or the father's to abuse their power. He gave me an OPD social worker and helped me navigate the entire process. Later when the case was closed and I had to go to court to protect my son from his dad Mr. Wogsland was able to provide me with documentation I needed from the dependency which ended up protecting my son again from his dad. Mr. Wogsland refused to allow my daughters dad and CPS to try to agree to extremely strict visitation denying me visits that wouldn't let me have my daughters overnight for 2 yrs AFTER I had completed inpatient at a PPW program and all the other court ordered Services I had completed already. Now I am coming back to him again because I know in my heart he can help me again. My youngest daughter was sent to Florida with her father who has been beating her and denying me my rights as a parent. She is in foster care in Florida and I am needing help getting information from my previous case. I know that I can go to Mr. Wogsland and ask him for his help in getting the correct documents if he still has access to them because he has already shown me before that he cares about my family and wants our family to be complete and with his help my daughter will be safe for the first time in 7 yrs. I know from how he has helped me in the past that we aren't just another case to him we are a family and we are important. I will always be grateful for everything he has done for my family and if you are in my shoes I wore back in 09 and you find out that he is assigned to you then this is your lucky day. You will have an attorney that will fight with respect to the courts and demand your rights are being met. Thank you for everything. Because of you Mr. Wogsland my children are safe, healthy, stable and secure and now I am finally getting my youngest daughter home because of all the hard work you helped me with back then.

I wanted to share that the experience I had with the view ridge law- more specifiacally with the attorny Elaina T. was far from well. I had to end my session with her early and request my money back. I paid her to help me and instead she spent time telling me why I couldnt get what I wanted and defending the other party. I also found out she did not read all the paperwork I sent in which she claimed was irrelevant to the case which was entirely unture. I was shocked at the lack of professionalism and care that was given to me. Our meeting was not recorded so I was not able to prove that way she was speaking to me to her superiors. The only positive that came from this was that the office did refund me my money. I lost out on a very timely situation due to their lack of attention.

I would recommend Jaclyn Bray of Lauber Law Group to anyone going through the divorce process or wanting to improve their estate planning. Jaclyn represented me in a complicated divorce. She was very communicative, responsive, respectful, and fair through the whole process. She provided sound advice and helped me stay grounded as we worked through my case. She is now helping me with estate planning and has been fantastic on this front as well. She is top notch and would benefit anyone by representing them.

Was hung up on, twice, after waiting 2 weeks to simply contact the court and request a court date hearing to take care of a warrant. They won't even do us the tiny favor to file a form to recuse themselves from our case, so we can try to get things rolling.

Adrian helped us with an unusual case. Basically I had a crazy guy become obsessed with his conspiracy theory that I was a CIA spy and the Pimentel team helped us get the situation under control (not joking unfortunately).

Adrian seems really inadequate at his job and appeared to be hung over while in court. He seems incredibly disorganized and can’t seem to get his act together. Look elsewhere for an attorney.

Chris recently spoke on the phone with my wife during a free phone consultation session. Chris made hurtful comments to her such as "sounds like you can't afford me" and "maybe they just don't like you" - referring to the School District people. My wife is Hispanic and what he said to my wife, was hurtful, rude and obnoxious. Who does he think he is? Are we small people not worthy of his mightiness? My wife asked questions about specific laws and Chris didn't seem to know much about them, despite being an advocate to children's rights. He's a white man, my wife is Hispanic, asking for help, being told she can't afford him. Well, we can. But we won't ever hire anyone from this company because of Chris' hurtful comments. My wife was in distress and we were both stunned by his attitude. We asked ourselves: 'did he sound racist towards us?'.

Consultation: told fees would be $3000 retainer and $300 to $400 hourly rate. Lawyer informed me I sounded like I would not be able afford it. This he based solely on my voice: a voice with a heavy ethnic, non-European accent. Never was my household income discussed at any one point or did he ever pose a question about my household income. It was solely based on presumption. However, indeed these quoted hourly rates are at the high end of hourly fees charged by attorneys. They are above the average rate. I suppose, in the wealthy Seattle areas is where is feasible. I explained my reason for needing a lawyer was due to retaliatory treatment from the school district after complaining about mistreatment against my Special Needs child. His response was: "sounds like they just don't like you, sounds like you have annoyed them". (imagine one gets beaten up by someone and one is told, sounds like you got beaten up because they don't like you, because you annoyed them, as though one would be deserving of being beaten up because they just don't like one).

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a juvenile law lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the time involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Juvenile criminal cases: Legal fees for defending a minor in juvenile criminal cases can range from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on the severity of the charges and whether the case goes to trial.
  • Status offenses: For cases involving minor offenses such as truancy or underage drinking, legal fees typically range from $1,500 to $5,000.
  • CPS or child welfare cases: Legal fees for representing families in CPS investigations or child welfare cases can range from $2,000 to $8,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the case.
  • School disciplinary hearings: Legal fees for representing students in school-related issues may range from $1,000 to $3,500, depending on the legal work required.

Make sure to get a clear estimate of costs during your initial consultation to ensure you understand the full scope of fees and services.

Top Questions to Ask a Juvenile Law Lawyer

Before hiring a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and expertise to handle your child’s case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with juvenile law cases?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases similar to yours, whether it’s juvenile delinquency, child custody, or CPS investigations.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges by the hour, offers flat fees, or requires a retainer. Ask for a detailed estimate of the total cost.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my child’s case?
Ask the lawyer for an honest assessment of the case, including potential challenges and likely outcomes.
  4. How long will the process take?
Juvenile cases can vary in duration, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last and what factors might affect the timeline.
  5. Will you personally handle my child’s case?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle parts of the case. Make sure you know who will be managing the case and representing your child in court.
  6. What rights does my child have?
Ask the lawyer to explain your child’s legal rights, including their rights during police questioning, school disciplinary actions, and court proceedings.

How to Check the Credibility of a Juvenile Law Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable juvenile law lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for juvenile law experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in juvenile law and have successfully handled cases similar to yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and success rate in juvenile cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a juvenile law lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Court documents: Bring any legal documents related to your child’s case, such as summons, complaints, or court orders.
  • School records: Provide any relevant school records, including disciplinary reports, attendance records, and communications from school officials.
  • CPS or investigation reports: If your case involves child welfare, bring any reports or documentation from CPS or other investigating agencies.
  • Timeline of events: Prepare a detailed timeline of events related to your child’s legal issue, including interactions with authorities or school officials.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Write down any questions about the legal process, your child’s rights, and potential outcomes for the case.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your child’s situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
