I would highly recommend Attorney Bagley. She has a strong understanding of the law and the Waukesha court system. Her expertise and professionalism are evident at all times. She was always well prepared for all meetings and appointments. She was honest and empathetic as she worked with me during a tough time.

When considering which attorney to represent me, the following characteristics were of key importance: integrity, honesty and respect for my thoughts and words. My divorce settlement was quite contentious and lingered nearly two years from start to finish. Attorney Bagley remained steady, focused and considerate of my input and thoughts. On many occasions, Attorney Bagley would present our options, ask how I would like to proceed and then listen intently to my explanation. Each time after our conversations, she and I were on the same page. Thank you, Elizabeth, for honoring my desire to walk above reproach through a very difficult process and confidently supporting and encouraging me to finish strong. I couldn't have done it without you. When all was said and done, we finished well.

Thomas Houck represented us well in what started as a convoluted case. That was over a decade ago. Last week I was rear-ended aggravating previous injuries. Mr. Houck was out to my home the day after I called to ensure I was properly represented in this matter.

I would give a 0 if i could. Do Not waste your money. I hire attorney cleghorn for a divorce case, 1st of all: communication is terrible. I called her office and sent emails, no answer. I went weeks without hearing from her. Few days before hearing, she ll contact me and pretend to hear me out. 2nd- didn’t do much about the case: would not fight for your interests and certainly would not refund you for not doing anything on your case. 3- Was absent during my hearing and 2 months later no word from her about the case. What’s the point of having an attorney if they can’t even represent you in court or reach out about the case. Bottom line she gets her money and won’t do squat. Terrible attorney. DO NOT Waste your money. Refuse to listen to counsel? What do you make of other attorneys to getresults for their client? That was quick response. In posting a review only, it takes 2 days to get a response. Last hearing we had in court was 2 months ago, without my attorney present, to this day no word. Yes i guess that s the client not listening too right? Terrible

Josh was my first call when my family went through a difficult time. Not only did I know too but everyone I knew said you need to call Josh. From start to finish, he worked hard and delivered clarity for us. In my mind, got us the best deal for our father we were gonna get. Made time for us not matter what and showed he truly cared about my fathers case. Even after all was said and done, he stayed in touch with myself and family to answer any questions that came up. My family and I can't say enough how thankful we were to have Josh and his firm in our corner. I completely recommend him if you ever get into any legal trouble!

I was the victim of gun violence. I then got a trespassing case. Wingrove was assigned as my pd. The first thing he did upon meeting me inside of his wife's business office was hand me a piece of paper. This paper was to waive my victim rights. He didn't represent me on this case. So that's very strange a defense lawyer is asking his client to waive their rights in other situations. This prompted me to record every second of my encounter w this man, and I am thrilled I did. I can't provide further detail, per avvo community guidelines, however the recordings are available. You've been warned

Kevin and Ronda square will let you down! Never answered phone calls and tried to made you feel like you shouldn’t even be calling! Got me a felony on possession of paraphernalia. Then forced me to take the charge with some excuse about his time and that he would expunge it in a year. After a year, told me to get another lawyer , not him, one that made the promise. Jon stanek did a great job in my case, keep in mind they have a ton of clients not just you so what may seem short or "rude" is really them trying to jumble a million tasks all at once witch is not easy and I'd say for my experience he did a great job with my case from explaining what he knows to getting my case resolved as quickly as possible as I had requested. He was more than patient in answering all my questions and made sure I understood the process very well I have no complaints whatsoever

Denis Hertz-McGrath takes State Public Defender cases like mine because no one will hire her privately, and for good reason...she is a terrible attorney. I was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Battery. I was laid off from my construction job and needed a Public Defender. The Public Defender gave my case to Denise Hertz-McGrath. This attorney did absolutely nothing on my case. She never spoke to a witness. She met with me once for 12 minutes, after calling her office over 6 times without even the courtesy of a return call from her. During this 12 minute meeting we had it seemed her only goal was to get me to hire her privately, though the State was paying her the "State rate", which she stated wasn't enough for her to really dedicate the resources I needed. I think it all boiled down to a greedy attorney trying to take my money after getting the Public Defenders money for taking my case. In court she actually was talking about the wrong case and had to be stopped by the Judge. I ended up doing county jail time because she upset and argued with the DA. If Denise Hertz-McGrath was the last Attorney in Wisconsin, I'd suggest you represent yourself.

McGrath is one among very few Kenosha attorneys that invests herself 110% for your criminal case. She pulls no punches; our experience was that she represented us as if we were her own family. She does not hesitate to challenge or clarify the judge's statements and/or rulings when necessary (and we found it to definitely be necessary). She is one intelligent, matter-of-fact attorney worthy of her retainer fee !!

I hired Mr. Becker and everything seemed to be going well until the day of my hearing. 20 minutes before my hearing Mr. Becker decided to tell me that I was 'getting better' so should only seek back pay and not disability going forward. We had met 2 weeks prior and this should have been brought up at that pre-hearing meeting, not 20 minutes before my hearing where I now have to make a very important decision on the fly. It was and extremely unprofessional and inappropriate thing to do to a client.

First, I need to say he WON my disability case. For my initial meeting with him, He called and asked me to come an hour early. When we arrived, I waited 50 min. in the waiting room to see him for 15 min consultation. On the date of the hearing, He told me he wasn't feeling well and in a hurry to go to the DR. after our hearing. He also stated that now he decided to move my disability date to 2 yrs instead of 4 to make things go quickly and insure a win since " winning is how he gets paid" so this " ensures he also receives a paycheck as well" I don't think Mr. Becker had my best interest at heart and I was just another check in the bank to him. Im sad, he seemed like a nice guy on TV.

I would not recommend Jamie, my fiance had her for a Public "Defender", she did not come visit when she said she would, only time she came was for him to sign a ridiculous plead.. She did not listen to what he had to say, she would not show him the evidence they had on him.. And told him "We" are investigating you, so totally on DA side. My fiance ended up firing her and she laughed and said thank you! If you are looking for a public defender, I would recommend getting a new one ASAP!

What a Juvenile Law Lawyer Can Do for You

A juvenile law lawyer specializes in legal issues involving minors, including those facing criminal charges, child welfare matters, or status offenses (like truancy or curfew violations). Juvenile law lawyers aim to protect the rights of minors and advocate for rehabilitation rather than punishment in criminal cases. They also help families navigate child custody, abuse, neglect cases, and other legal matters involving children.

If your child is facing criminal charges, or you are involved in a child welfare case, a juvenile law lawyer can help protect your child’s rights and work toward the most favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Juvenile Law Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a juvenile law lawyer in the following situations where minors are involved in legal matters:

  • Juvenile criminal charges: If your child is accused of a crime, such as theft, assault, or drug offenses, a juvenile lawyer can represent them in juvenile court, advocating for leniency and alternatives to detention.
  • Delinquency proceedings: A lawyer can help navigate delinquency charges, defending your child’s rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes like counseling, probation, or diversion programs instead of incarceration.
  • Status offenses: If your child has committed a status offense, such as truancy, running away, or underage drinking, a lawyer can help you resolve these issues in juvenile court, often focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment.
  • School disciplinary issues: If your child is facing school suspensions, expulsions, or other disciplinary actions, a lawyer can help protect their educational rights and challenge any unfair or unlawful school policies.
  • Child protective services (CPS) investigations: If your family is being investigated by CPS for alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, a lawyer can represent you and protect your child’s rights throughout the investigation.
  • Custody disputes: A lawyer can help in cases involving child custody or guardianship disputes, ensuring the child’s best interests are prioritized and advocating for the child’s rights.
  • Emancipation: If your child seeks legal emancipation from their parents or guardians, a lawyer can assist in navigating the legal process and help the child understand their rights and responsibilities.

Hiring a lawyer early in the legal process ensures that your child’s rights are protected and that the best possible outcomes are pursued.

What Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Do?

A juvenile law lawyer provides various services to help minors and their families navigate the legal system. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing minors in court: A lawyer will represent your child in juvenile court, advocating for their rights and seeking rehabilitative outcomes rather than punitive measures.
  • Filing motions and legal paperwork: The lawyer handles all necessary legal filings, including petitions, responses, and motions to dismiss charges or suppress evidence.
  • Negotiating with prosecutors: In some cases, a lawyer can negotiate plea deals or diversion programs that prevent the child from having a permanent criminal record or serving time in detention.
  • Advising on rehabilitation programs: Juvenile law lawyers often focus on alternatives to incarceration, such as counseling, community service, or probation, helping minors avoid long-term legal consequences.
  • Handling CPS and child welfare cases: If your family is involved in a CPS investigation or child welfare case, the lawyer can advocate for your child’s safety and well-being, ensuring that their rights are upheld.
  • Defending minors against school discipline: A lawyer can help challenge unfair or excessive disciplinary actions taken by schools, ensuring that your child’s educational rights are protected.
  • Advising families on legal options: A lawyer will explain the juvenile legal process to families, offering advice on the best legal strategies and what to expect during the case.

How Are Juvenile Law Lawyers Paid?

Juvenile law lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many juvenile law lawyers charge by the hour, with rates ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Flat fee: For simpler cases, such as status offenses or school disciplinary hearings, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all legal services related to the case.
  • Retainer: In more complex cases, such as defending against serious criminal charges or handling a long-term CPS investigation, a lawyer may require a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as they work on the case.
  • Sliding scale or pro bono services: Some juvenile law lawyers offer sliding scale fees based on income or may provide pro bono (free) services for families who cannot afford to pay full legal fees, especially in cases involving child welfare or delinquency.

Discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to understand the total cost and payment options.

How Much Does a Juvenile Law Lawyer Cost?

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.

  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on juvenile law matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for memberships in organizations like the National Juvenile Defender Center (NJDC) or certifications in juvenile law, which can indicate a lawyer’s dedication to representing minors.
