Mr. Willis was responsive, and efficient. This case had been in the hands of several attorneys prior. He asked a fair wage for difficult work. He gave wise counsel, and gave it to me straight. The legal theory was sound, and the execution was to standard. I will continue to recommend him to friends and family, and have only heard good reviews back from them.

1. Gratitude: Stephen Jon Moss cares and serves as a model for all lawyers seeking to do pro bono phone consultations. He promptly replied to my time-sensitive appeal issue—listening and providing invaluable advice July 7, 2022 free of charge, ending around 6:20 PM after normal business hours—nothing short of a miracle! I will forever value his advice, knowing that high-profile school districts and other clients pay top dollar for his expertise. He even offered me a follow-up call, if needed—illustrating character beyond reproach. 2. Process: Within about 2 hours after completing the Lawyer Referral Service (“LRS”) succinct online form, Mr. Moss’ profile appeared in my Inbox. I thought I needed a lawyer to represent me, immediately, but realized as we exceeded the 30-minute window that what I needed was sound pro se legal advice to comply with the court timeline. I noted my visit to the June 29, 2022 Austin Bar Association Lockhart Veterans Legal Clinic. Seeing attorneys eager to help with few veterans present made me vow to bridge the disconnect. Too many veterans need help to thwart homelessness or other legal issues despite attorneys like Mr. Moss willing to help through LRS or in-person. 3. Anecdote: At the outset, Mr. Moss reminded me of my value as a veteran. His ROTC experience connected us, too. “I’m a quick learner,” I said. “Just point me in the right direction.” Mr. Moss listened intently and answered all of my questions then strategized, helping me create a “To-Do List” to plan what, when, and how to file along with next steps. The following day I headed to Texas State Law Library then filed an answer and timely submitted my appeal, accordingly. 4.Hope: Now, I see the glass as half-full and plan to share the value of LRS and Mr. Moss’ legal expertise. Responsive, respectful, resilient: He was a perfect match. I highly recommend Mr. Moss’ service. It was, indeed, a blessing!

Some say that it’s impossible to prove a negative. Stephen Moss was able to do just this when I was unfairly terminated over a 7-year old’s misrepresentation of a short conversation we had in public in a school cafeteria. While an employee can be terminated in Texas without cause, Mr. Moss was logically able to explain to the Texas Education Agency’s investigator how the allegations against me were not only illogical but impossible. As a Foster and Adoptive Parent of two now grown kids I was appalled at what I had been accused of and summarily dismissed without being given a formal chance to defend myself. And I knew I needed help. Mr. Moss listened to what I had to say, researched the law in question and with a single letter to the State Agency’s investigator explained that not only was any part of the law violated, the school district’s investigation was woefully inadequate and the conclusions reached preposterous. Mr. Moss’s written correspondence was so compelling that the State investigator closed the investigation without even a formal hearing, potentially saving me thousands of dollars in unnecessary legal fees. Thank you Mr. Moss for protecting my reputation!

SO impressed with Mr. Moss. I was referred to him by the Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas. Just amazing service from Mr. Moss. He completely understood my issue and had the best, most pragmatic, reasonable approach to resolving my issue. He took so much weight off of my shoulders in about 15 minutes regarding my real estate issue. Cant say enough how much I appreciate his advice. 10/10 definitely recommend Mr. Moss just amazing service!

This attorney was rude to me and refused to listen to anything I said about my parent's estate. The will was changed many times without my being consulted. I have been disabled since 2009. He told me I could not visit my Father when he was dying at Texas Specialty Hospital which is illegal. He said my brother took over the estate and he could not do anything about it when my brother who died in November 2014 was a disabled Pharmacist. My Grand Father bought our family home and my Father Robert O. Winters built two properties in 1982 and 1985. I was lied to many times. I do not recommend this attorney at all as he caused four of my family member including myself to loose our homes, and much property and belonging still missing to this day in 2017 and my parents died in 2010.

The worst law firm in all of Houston. Had to fire the attorney, and still had to fight them on that. They took forever to withdraw after firing them. FOUR times they didn't show up in court. If you don't want to be overly stressed out and put in the position of your children being dragged through hell due to the lack of these attorneys work ethics, DO NOT HIRE ANYONE FROM THIS FIRM!!

He was incredibly knowledgeable, assertive and firm in our case. He ensured we were prepared as a family, that my husband was prepared and never felt alone in the case. He went above and beyond. With any attorney there is costs involved. It was not cheap to keep our family together but if I had to hire another attorney for my husband you better believe it will be Mr. Woodfill. Amazing job! Thank you so much. We WON!

Ms. Vickie was very helpful in my husbands case. My husband was having to pay child support for years for a child that was not his. So when I found out I made him take paternity and we called her and she got all of his back child support as well as the current child support dismissed. Also she got him custody of the daughter that is his and put the mother on child support since his daughter as living with him anyway and he was still paying child support. The mother is now paying child support to him.

The fact that they say it was a mistake with that statement, that means internally one of your lawyers wrote that out and thought it was a good idea because you wouldn't have accidentally sent it if it wasn't written or printed. Honestly, get a law firm that treats people like humans. Also, we need to know the lawyer's name who wrote that paper out. Protecting this person is disgusting. You should be blasting this person even if it was a mistake, which again, if it wasn't written or printed, you couldn't have made that mistake, which means at one point you thought it was a good idea.

My LegalShield membership turned me on to Tim's firm. A paycheck was soaked up for almost the same value as what I settled on over a years time. The day before trial Tim told me I should go ahead and settle. I could type a five page article on why not to use the firm but I'll leave it at, good luck if you hire Tim.

Amy was hired to represent child in a custody battle. She said she would see the child weekly and by herself and that never happened. She saw the child 1x alone and 1x with other parent present in the room. She doesn't care what children tell her or should tell her she doesn't want to hear it from them. She focus on things that are from a past and not things happening in the present. She has her own CPS worker that she is good friends with from a county that is not either party location to do the interview and they side with each other. She is not professional and she will tell you to do 1 thing then when she sends msg to judge its total opposite. I dont recommend that type lawyer for anyone. She needs to be reviewed on her family law values and stop getting by bc she donates to the children's protective agency. Seems like buying herself in . Bot professional at all and quite rude to ppl.

Be very cautious when choosing an attorney: that "officer of the court" with whom one must be totally (self) assured will protect their 'better interests' as if it were the attorneys' own interests'. I only wish that a prior client of Mr. Quaid would have alerted me (via this review board). We were charged fees for services not rendered: several (3) unsigned motions which were submitted to the clerks' office... but were not decided upon (by a Judge) due to "accidental" signature omission. I do have evidence/proof of my allegations. I have nothing good to say about my experience with this man.

I was referred to Chuck by another attorney, who said he was one of the best and that he was known for his professionalism, results, and integrity. Chuck is an excellent attorney and knows every detail of the case that he is working on. He is never anything less than professional and fully prepared. He does not waist your time or your money. He is quick, concise, and to the point, but he is kind and caring at the same time - a very difficult balance to maintain. He always looks out for the best interest of his clients and is five steps ahead of me (and I am a worrier) and the opposition, so that says quite a bit. Without attempt, he made the opposing counsel look like she was an unprepared child playing dress up in Mommy's clothes compared to him when we were forced to go to court against a large "high powered law firm" that my ex-husband paid EIGHT times as much money for and he got far less results in court than I did. My first ex later admitted he was embarrassed by the lack of professionalism the partner at his firm showed in comparison to Chuck - especially in court because we were so well prepared. In comparison to us, it literally looked like they had just shown up that morning without any preparation. The judge was even restraining himself from laughing under his breath at the differences because of the inadequacies Chuck so brightly brought to light. We both had five and a half months to prepare; however, it showed that Chuck had wisely used that time to work on the case so that we would not have any surprises, bumps, or bruises along the way. His courtroom presence was nothing less than stellar. I have been questioned many times, but no one can hold a candle to Chuck's rapid fire, on-your-toes method of questioning. Unfortunately, I am a repeat customer, he doesn't offer a discount for multiple divorces, and I have sent over a half a dozen friends to him over the last several years for divorce and custody issues; however, none of us could be more pleased with the services that we received, so none of us can complain about anything except our ex's which is our own doing. He worked with me for months on my second case as well, going through my case with the understanding, care, and compassion of a big brother. He always had my best interest at heart. We were given one curve ball after another by the opposing counsel and Chuck handled them all like the consummate professional that he is, giving me adequate time to recover before we settled (I had an injury from domestic abuse that was still being treated under my ex's insurance). He is the type of person that completely restores your faith in the legal field and makes you speak up whenever someone tells a lawyer joke at a party. I am truly blessed to have found an honest, diligent attorney who is also personal and professional. You don't receive any less from his staff either. They made two horrible experiences as pleasant and easy as possible. I knew that with Chuck on the job, I did not have to worry about anything because he had everything I could possibly anticipate and more already under control. I just can not say enough good things about him. I HIGHLY recommend Chuck without reservation and I have multiple times already. My only mistake is that I didn't call him sooner! I'm happily married to a wonderful man now. Chuck is a great person and a fabulous attorney. If you have any family law needs, he is the person to call.

Allan and Susan fought helped be my voice for my late husband who died suddenly. A tsunami washed over our lives and everything was destroyed. I hired Allan to get answers. And to help us be a voice for my late husband. Grief sucks. Being alone and grieving is terrible. We felt alone and needed answers. Allan made sure to not leave our case on the back burner. I am poor. Indigent. I didn't have money to pay him upfront to advocate for us. This never deterred his professionalism or representation. He was kind, extremely honest and upfront within the entire process, many times answering questions- over and over again. Grief is a long process and a lawsuit certainly doesnt bring about closure in the way of bringing them back. But they help in being heard. We wanted to be heard. My husbands death was the most painful event the girls and I will experience in our entire life. And I am grateful we had Allan's with us. He was our advocate. I am not a big fan of attorney's. But Allan is different in that he has a strong of humanity that so many others in his field lack. He is caring and will stand with you. I have nothing but good things to say about him.

It is not difficult to know where to begin to evaluate her as a mediator. First of all her demeanor was poor and the entire time we felt she was not an impartial party working toward a settlement that both parties could be happy with. She appeared rather one sided and was very condescending and dismissive to anyone not a lawyer on our side of the table. Many times she was not willing to listen to information that was being presented. She often stated we needed not to spend time in the weeds and the devil is in the detail. Really ! We spent the entire day at her offices and at the end of the day the apposing party presented the same conditions it has presented prior plus at least 5 more requests, and it appears even one new request that we had expressed concern over that she appears to have informed the apposing party of. Talk about weeds. We were constantly told to make concessions and treat it as a business not personal. We came to the place knowing those facts already being of course educated persons just like her. Our side made concessions and by the end of the day the apposing party made zero but they did request even more from us. Now I will admit our apposing party isn't very amendable to compromise. It appears no compromise was made. However the food was at least fair. -

I was having an issue with a builder contract and I found Hunter McLean on Avvo and a bunch of other lawyers as well. The next morning the only one who responded was Hunter and he was extremely responsive and we talked about my issue. He was conscious of the fact that I'm building a home and finances may be tight and instead of just saying oh well these are my fees he actually recommended an associate that was a little less expensive and could handle this simple issue. One might thing that was the end of his involvement but NOT AT ALL!! We ran into an issue where the associate wasn't 100% sure of if the lack of markings on the contract invalidated that piece so he called Hunter in. Hunter didn't just answer his question but he came in and sat down with me and explained the missing piece. He didn't even charge me more. And after they emailed my builder they were IMMEDIATELY back to work with nothing else to say. If I have any legal issues regardless of whether its real estate or anything else I will be contacting Hunter and either using his expertise or seeing if he could advise me as to who in his firm handles that particular issue. The best example I can give of Hunter's service is a waiter that doesn't ignore you after you already left the tip. It shows TRUE desire to help!

What a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Can Do for You

A lawsuit or dispute lawyer, often referred to as a litigation lawyer, specializes in handling legal conflicts between individuals, businesses, or organizations. These lawyers represent clients in civil lawsuits, helping to resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, or litigation in court. They can assist with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, property disputes, business conflicts, personal injury claims, and more.

If you are involved in a legal conflict and need representation, a dispute lawyer can guide you through the litigation process - from filing or defending against a lawsuit to negotiating settlements or representing you at trial.

When Should I Hire a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer when you're involved in a legal disagreement that cannot be resolved informally and may require legal action. Common reasons to hire a lawyer include:

  • Breach of contract: If someone has failed to fulfill the terms of a contract, a lawyer can help you file a lawsuit to seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Whether it's a partnership disagreement, shareholder conflict, or a dispute with a supplier or customer, a lawyer can help resolve business-related issues.
  • Property disputes: If you're involved in a dispute over property ownership, boundary issues, or landlord-tenant conflicts, a lawyer can assist in resolving the matter.
  • Personal injury claims: If you were injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a lawyer can represent you in a personal injury lawsuit.
  • Debt collection or defense: If you're being sued for unpaid debts or need to collect a debt owed to you, a lawyer can represent you in court or negotiate settlements.
  • Employment disputes: If you're involved in an employment-related dispute, such as wrongful termination or discrimination, a lawyer can help you file a claim and represent you in court.
  • Defending against a lawsuit: If you've been sued, a lawyer can defend you against the claims, challenge the evidence, and negotiate a settlement or represent you at trial.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process can help ensure that your case is properly managed and that your rights are protected throughout the dispute resolution process.

What Does a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Do?

A lawsuit or dispute lawyer provides a wide range of services to help clients navigate legal conflicts and seek resolution. Their tasks typically include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing the facts and evidence to determine the strength of your case or defense and advising you on the best course of action.
  • Filing lawsuits or responding to lawsuits: If you're the plaintiff, the lawyer will file a lawsuit on your behalf. If you're the defendant, they will respond to the lawsuit and build a defense strategy.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting and reviewing evidence such as contracts, emails, financial records, and witness statements to support your case.
  • Handling negotiations: Negotiating with the opposing party to reach a settlement before the case goes to trial, which can save time and money.
  • Representing you in court: Presenting your case in court if a settlement cannot be reached, including presenting evidence, questioning witnesses, and making legal arguments on your behalf.
  • Exploring alternative dispute resolution (ADR): Suggesting mediation or arbitration as alternatives to a trial, which can be faster and less expensive.
  • Drafting legal documents: Preparing and filing necessary legal documents such as complaints, motions, and responses, as well as drafting settlement agreements if a resolution is reached.

How Are Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyers Paid?

The fee structure for lawsuit or dispute lawyers varies depending on the complexity of the case, the type of dispute, and the lawyer's experience. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Many lawsuit lawyers charge by the hour, especially for cases that require extensive preparation, research, and trial work. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and location.
  • Contingency fee: In certain cases, such as personal injury or breach of contract claims, a lawyer may work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win the case, usually taking a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of the settlement or damages awarded.
  • Flat fee: For specific services, such as filing a simple lawsuit or representing you in mediation, some lawyers may charge a flat fee.
  • Retainer: In complex cases or long-term litigation, a lawyer may ask for a retainer, which is an upfront payment to secure their services. The lawyer will then bill against the retainer as they work on the case.

Discuss the fee structure with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand how fees will be handled throughout the case.

How Much Does a Lawsuit / Dispute Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawsuit or dispute lawyer depends on the complexity of the case, the lawyer's experience, and the fee structure they use. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Lawyers may charge between $150 and $500 per hour, with higher rates for more experienced attorneys or cases requiring extensive trial preparation.
  • Contingency fees: If your lawyer works on a contingency basis, expect them to take 25% to 40% of any settlement or court award. For example, if you win $100,000 and the contingency fee is 33%, the lawyer would receive $33,000.
  • Flat fees: For less complex disputes or tasks, such as drafting a settlement agreement or representing you in mediation, flat fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Retainers: Some lawyers require an upfront retainer fee, which can range from $5,000 to $20,000 or more, depending on the case complexity and expected litigation length.

Make sure to ask for a detailed breakdown of fees during your consultation so you know what to expect.
