Absolutely amazing, A+! Peter Carini is the first and only attorney I've ever contacted who actually answered his own phone - immediately, on a Sunday. As a paralegal, I can't even begin to tell you how rare that is! I was fully expecting to reach his office voicemail and maybe (probably never) get a call back from his receptionist to schedule a paid consultation the following week. Except Peter not only answered what must have been his cell phone (unless he was in the office working on a Sunday!), he listened to me without interruption and offered consice insight into my civil legal matter based on his experience and knowledge of the legal process. (Note: This is not the same as legal advice and does not constitute an attorney-client relationship. That's my FYI, not his.) He was totally straightforward as to whether it would be worth my while to hire him and explained how I could instead advocate for myself. Peter is an exceptionally honest and decent human being, and I am so thankful he answered my call. After speaking to him for 7.5 minutes, I felt hopeful again about a situation that was intimidating and seemingly hopeless. I cannot recommend him enough. Thank you, Peter!

Susan Ford explains everything in detail and made the process a better learning experience. She helped me out big time, felt at ease during the whole process. Susan is experienced litigators who fight aggressively to achieve the best possible outcome and protect her clients’ business interests. Her area of expertise is not limited to litigating partnership disputes, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty or corporate opportunity disputes. She knows litigation is not about her, but about achieving the best outcome and she knows how to do it. She is a very nice attorney and is super reasonable with her prices. I definitely recommend Susan!

Susan used her many years practicing law as her reason for charging considerably more for her services. She filed my trademark and a straight forward estimated to take 9 months to 1 year process took nearly 2 years. The delays resulted from: her poor organization, changing law firms, and mistakes on my application just to name a few. During my phone consult she assured me hiring a seasoned lawyer (her) would insure my paperwork would be filed correctly and that I'd avoid common mistakes other less seasoned lawyer would make. What ended up happening was a series of problems which she kept referring to as unfortunate. She lied to me, she had a paralegal, she WAS NOT doing the work like she had told me during our consultation. So when the first round of mistakes popped up she blamed it the person she had do all the work and then turned around and demanded I must pay her $350 per hour to fix the issue. Since I'd already paid her over a thousand dollars not including the application fee's I was stuck. When I hired Susan she had her own law firm. But then 9 months after filing my application (surprise) more problems popped up and she demanded I must repay the initial retainer amount ALL OVER AGAIN since she is NOW with a new law firm. She had merged law firms and not informed me. I kept pleading with her that I had hired her and not this new law firm but she kept insisting I must re-pay her all over again if she is to continue to work with me. After lots of going back and forth and lack of funds I had to contact USTPO myself to fix her errors. Susan caused me so much stress and sleepless nights I wish I would have asked others who'd worked with her about their experience in working with her. I would have researched her a bit and inquired why her law firm has bounced around so much in 10 years. Long story short, Susan seems like a competent lawyer on the surface. But she is not organize, not truthful and once you are her client you have to pay for her mistakes or start over with a new lawyer. In summary, I feel she is unethical, incompetent and pretends to care about women and small businesses but in fact she only cares about herself and how much money she can squeeze out of a client.

Eugene did not hesitate when asked to help form a local cycling club in the valley. Not only was his legal advise and guidance invaluable, he put his words into action by starting a non profit for the local cycling community. His professionalism, along with the ability to work with the various interests within our group, was a perfect fit for us. There are many lawyers who cycle that we could have called on; it was a unanimous decision to call on Eugene and he did an excellent job for the cyclists of the Rogue Valley.

My husband and I chose Eugene Anderson to represent us in litigation of a difficult and highly emotional matter. Mr. Anderson advised us regarding the procedure and what we would likely experience as well as his fees at our first meeting. Throughout the entire time Mr. Anderson represented us, we found him to be straightforward, honest, highly ethical, compassionate and kind. My husband especially appreciated Mr. Anderson's fairness in his billings. I appreciated Mr. Anderson's kindness and understanding towards me during this very painful time. Mr. Anderson is unusual in my experience of attorneys in that when he says he will have something done by a certain date, he has it done by that date. He does not procrastinate! My husband and I both liked and enjoyed Mr. Anderson as a person as well as respect him as an attorney.

The problem with the legal system is no one can afford representation for issues. It is hard to litigate a $450 fee someone is trying to impose upon you when attorneys cost $400/hr just for a consultation. This doesn't help your community. Edit after update from owner: This is all fine and in good spirit, but before I could even get a question off to see if this would be worth my time and expense, I was cut off and told I would have to set up a $400/hr consult first. For those of us in between jobs with families, this does not qualify as affordable. The state was more helpful. The state.

Chris represented me in a dispute regarding back wages with my employer. He obtained a significant settlement, all the while, representing me in a professional and firm but courteous manner. It was actually pretty miraculous as I am still employed, have a good working relationship with my employer, and the issue has been resolved. I credit his manner, negotiation, and mediation skills for this outcome. This would not have been possible without that level of skill and expertise.

Brett Hall PC of Hall Law in Portland, Oregon is an excellent criminal lawyer who is also well versed in personal injury, family and even more so in DUII law. He is very knowledgeable in Oregon law and he is hard-charging, strategic and really cares about the people behind his cases that he represents. I've seen and heard examples of several of his cases and is someone I will always place my complete faith and trust in. His time consulting for me and my family regarding different matters in different areas of law have always been very helpful and I feel an excellent value, especially when looking at the potential saving that I was able to gain from his help, direction and wise words. They then filed stuff on my behalf after dropping me and changed me for 3k. They then sued me and I didn't know I even had to go to court because they sent it to my old address... they are a scam and I hope they get shut down.

I filed a restraining/move-out order against my former partner, who had become increasingly angry, abusive, and I feared violence from him. I wanted to be sure that he would not be allowed back into my home so I hired Greg Oliveros to represent me. My former partner was challenging the order so we went to court. Before the hearing Greg went to talk with him. He told him that he had about a 1% chance of winning and he negotiated a settlement of the case. It has been an incredible relief to have it over with! Greg is very kind, thorough and has a heart. I recommend him unconditionally! His staff is absolutely wonderful, too. :)

Zero stars would be great to post, however, by now most people expect that 1 star means the same thing as zero or less. Beware. I am moving forward with the ethics complaint with the State Bar Association and I will be posting an honest review of this company with every message board, blog and review I can find. This firm was hired to do a job they had agreed was the best course of action. After they got my money, they try to force a different course of action that would only yield further litigation costs and injury to my child and myself. Sarah Bain was assigned to my case. She had admitted that she had not dealt with an out of state custody issue but reassured me that the Senior partners had and would be overseeing the case. After payment was received by the firm, and Sarah was appointed the case, She called to gather information. She had suggested a different course of action as did the first person there that I consulted with, and also agreed that the actions they were retained for was the best way to go. At the conclusion of this phone call, Sarah stated that she would begin drafting the papers and would send me a copy to review within the next few days. After 10 days without hearing from them, I called to check the status of the papers she was supposedly drafting. By the time she returned my call, I was on the road. Cellular service was poor and communications then moved to emails. From this point on is where I get reminded that anytime you are dealing with an attorney, email should be your only method of communication and kept in writing (especially with your own attorney). Everything in writing is the only way you can prove what they told you and then didn't do. The multiple emails that followed over the course of a few weeks each started with Sarah pushing her agenda of this different course of action. Each one ended with me requesting they move forward with the course they were retained for. It then escalated to Sarah emailing one of the Senior Partners William Jones and CC the email conversations to me where she is asking them if she is not being clear enough of the course of action she has continued to take in spite of my very clear wishes she do what they were retained to do. During all of this, Sarah had made multiple misrepresentations of what the proceedings are and waiting periods in order to push her course of action as the correct one. Apparently William Jones believes that all his firms clients haven't any knowledge of any legal issues, practices or remedies and legal definitions. HIs emails consisted of legal analogies that basically equate to comparing an apple to an orange as though you wouldn't know the difference and just take his word for it. I may not be a lawyer, but I have been through this with my EX for over 10 years now having had to represent myself in much of it. All the information you need to handle any legal issue is available to you for free through your states websites. You hire an attorney because they should be proficient with the law, and its a little complicated to navigate the court system. On top of that, the courts hate you for representing yourself. But you should always research the laws, court proceedings and family code to ensure what your attorney tells you is the truth. Most of the papers you will receive from an attorney that was filed with the court is verbatim from these codes. The end result was this firm charged me $4,000 to push me to do something other than what they were hired to do. $4,000 yielded zero attorney work product, a delay in court proceedings and further injury to my child and myself.

I was using William Jones' services for my divorce case with child involved. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about William. He made a challenging process much easier for me! He is very intelligent and well versed in law practice and always has an answer for you, and even makes it simple to understand. He is extremely professional and polite! The best part is that William is very honest with his fees, he will tell you right away what he will charge and his bill explains in detail what he used his services for, so there is no misunderstanding. He responded to my calls, voicemails very fast, most of the time within few hours, sometimes within 24 hours. What made me chose him as my lawyer, is that he was the only one that was willing to give me a free hour consultation with very professional advice. It is very challenging to find a good lawyer, so it is important to interview them before you hire them, unfortunately not many lawyer give free consultation. I highly recommend William!!! If I ever need a family lawyer again , I will definitely use his services again :)

Quite simply, I must say this: Will is a great attorney. When I was dealing with a difficult alimony issue, I moved my case from another attorney, which was the best move I could have made. Will did a detailed analysis of the complicated financial issues in my case, looked at every angle and made sure everything was handled before the case was heard. When we went to court, I felt that I was well represented. Using his thorough research, Will presented all of his terrific analyses in court – and, as a result, I wholly prevailed in my case. With Will’s great efforts, I felt that I finally found a piece of justice in a difficult divorce situation.

I had a very unique case that was dragged out for many years. "Not at Jacks fault" The government saw me as a hardened criminal for marketing fake sunglasses. Jack saw different. In the end Jack got me probation and home confinement so I could continue to work and raise my children. The Feds wanted me in prison for at least a year and a day" I have three friends that are attorneys so I'm very familiar with allot of law and how it works. I know the difference between a good and bad attorney. Jack is composed, controlled and when he strikes it's very decisive and distinct. I am very pleased with his performance and would gladly higher and refer him again.

Phil Nelson represented me in a corporate shareholder dispute as I paid an up front fee of $75k. The case progressed to the point of us winning at summary judgment. Eventually, Phil threatened to quit repeatedly because I would not settle for what HE deemed I should settle for, not what I adamantly requested, the fair value of my stock and other relief that survived summary judgment. Repeated threats to quit if I did not agree to his demand that I settle, along with promises (in writing) that an entire month of legal fees would be waived if I settled. For fear of losing counsel, I was left with no choice but to settle. As well, the month of fee's that were never removed as promised.

After a distressing situation with a former employer, I contacted HKM Employment Attorneys. From the initial intake of my case, everyone I encountered was very professional and helpful. After the review and speaking with Carla on the phone, her team retained me as a client. Carla is an excellent attorney, a great negotiator, and she is very timely with her responses. While the event was one I never hope to repeat in my life, I feel Carla took my case seriously and she helped me to better navigate my rights. Not to mention, she took a large worry off my plate so I could focus on healing and moving into the next stage of my life. Even during the points where I felt very down or didn’t quite understand the “legalese,” she made everything more accessible. I also legitimately feel like this firm as a whole is very discerning and they are open/honest about expectations. Carla never overpromised or made claims she couldn’t keep. I felt like before we worked together, I was well informed and when we worked together, she often checked in or answered questions. I also appreciate that she was level-headed and focused on facts, especially during a situation that was highly painful. All my documentation was reviewed carefully, and her team explained exactly what they needed from me. While I am hardly the type who wanted to involve the law, I believe with the help of Carla and her team that I was able to find a positive resolution. I highly recommend this law firm, even if you only need legal advice about potential legal challenges at a current or former workplace. It’s well worth the inquiry.

I referred to this company for a serious misfiring at my work where my rights had been violated for quite some time. This company just never contacted to me to even just tell me hey we don't want your business. As a victim it is hard to even ask for help. You feel like it is your fault. Then when you do reach out to someone who is supposed to and they don't or just decide to pick and choose?, what morality is in that. Lets be real and what about victim in general. Shame on these people they dictate OUR future.

this lawyer guided me with good advice with a parental interference case, and got me to be able to see my son again after not seeing son for 4 mo from ex wife issues, of which i will forever be grateful to the lawyer. he was helpful but was constantly busy, and indicated he didn't have a lot of time. i honestly feel he was trying to make time, but in the end i was called by his secretary and told that in the time frame i needed help, i would be better off finding another lawyer service, they did provide me a list and a contact number to find lawyers. this was when i was getting ready for a hearing that was coming up in 1 week. but for the time that i was getting advice from this lawyer it was better than i could have done on my own. the one piece of feedback i would like to give to him is if they new they would not be able to help me further then dont take money from me to put into trust fund. of course it is possible that they didn't realize the time involved, or that i would require more than an hour consulting a month until a few days after i made the deposit. it seems like i will get most of it back, but it might be some time. we will see, it seems more like a staffing competence rather than lawyers.... i'm used to professional lawyers from the past but from a larger organized firm. this lawyer is more affordable and i would use him again if i would have assurances for how much help they can and can not do, what they are willing to accept as a consultant, and how often i can contact them, and when i would get a response. even though i think this lawyer has good advice, and is affordable it is really just one or two people that run the show, and they need to learn to organize better, or get better help to organize and i hope they take this feedback and i wish them success. i feel this lawyer would do better working at a larger firm than deal with all the hustle and logistics of a business.

When I was served with a divorce I thought I would handle it by myself even though my soon to be ex had a lawyer. I learned very quickly that was a bad idea. There are way too many laws, rules, procedures, etc that have to be followed. Doing it myself went downhill pretty quickly so I wanted to get a lawyer. I asked some people for help finding a lawyer, and several of them gave me Andy's name. He is great at explaining things so that you understand them even when there are a whole lot of moving parts. I was amazed at how well he understands people and can predict what will happen or people will do. After he got involved we eventually came to a settlement that basically gave me what I asked for to start with.

I came here from a recommendation I’d never take again. I engaged with Erin MacDonald for a probate filing for my father passing away. She couldn’t take the time to explain the process or answer my questions at any time during the almost two year process. The only time she actually talked with me was to sign the engagement. I wasn’t worth spending the time of day on for anything, so she constantly kicked me down to the paralegal on the case. After multiple issues, he once the filings were complete and distribution checks ready to cut, they sent them all out on incorrect check stock and I had to notify them for correction. Which they never explained the process or the fees, the kept extra at the end to cover everything and then still send me bills. This is the worst professional service I’ve engaged. I won’t be back for any legal advice or services from this firm.

My name is Nicole Clain. Had to go through my daughters account to post this.. I give this place 1 star because of my personal experience with my lawyer Drew Betts. She is very new to the game and obviously knows very little about how the court system works. She never once even asked me for any evidence for my case, I just provided some because I knew we needed it and thank god I did. I had to call and leave multiple messages with her to ever even get a call back. I literally lost everything because of her. Because she wasn’t prepared with the right questions or knew what the judge was actually looking for. I lost custody of my son to his drunk, unpredictable dad. Who can’t even be bothered to pick his son up from school when he is sick. I beg u to find another more experienced lawyer!!

Lori is a private attorney that was hired by the Coos County public Defenders office for case overloads. My original attorney was unable to proceed with my case for technical reasons. From the time Lori took control of my case, she demonstrated the type of intelligence that every defendant hopes for. She helped me get my case finalized and made my release from custody happen very quickly! I can only say thanks to you Lori, I was able to go home to my family and I'm grateful for that. I recommend Lori if you ever find yourself in the cross hairs of the law!

I wish I had read George's reviews BEFORE we hired him. Although a really nice guy, George consistently does not follow through. After agreeing to file a suit on our behalf and accepting a retainer, it took him over 5 months to file it!! That was after more than 10 revisions. He could not get the information correct in the filing. His follow through has always been less than timely. George is not a detail oriented attorney nor is he timely or complete in his communications.

George got us through the most difficult time in our lives, so I would recommend him to anyone in need. There was some stress in not always getting replies to emails or phone calls on a complete or timely manner. I felt a frustrating lack of control throughout the ordeal, in that the case was decidedly in his hands and not mine, but that's hardly a negative in a qualified and dedicated attorney such as Mr. Mead. This case was outside of his ordinary field of practice, but he ably took on the task because he believed in us and became an expert on the technical aspects. I had the unwavering sense of comfort that he was advocating for our welfare and that we were on his mind each and every day.

I first contacted George by phone from California about a suit my sister and I wanted to bring against our brother in the Portland area. The case had to do with our parents estate and my brother's (ex bro!) theft of the entire estate after my mothers' death. After interviewing him via phone, I hired him and he started to work. I had to trust in him as it was some months before we actually met face to face. This was hard for me because I don't like to feel 'not in control' of a situation but he took up our cause and proved to be a sterling guy. George showed an intelligent and quick grasp of the situation and what steps needed to be accomplished and in what order to force an out of court settlement. He did his due diligence all the way such as flying to Florida to take an important deposition. His help with strategy in the conference room about the back and forth offers and counter offers enabled us to keep focused and even were able to share some humor in trying moments. In short, George guided us until we prevailed in an emotionally charged and difficult process. THANK YOU MR. MEAD! The outcome was worth the battle it took to achieve justice. And George is actually interested in justice. An honorable man and I recommend him thoroughly.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
