The “only secretary of the office” as she said herself is extremely rude and dismissive. She told me because of their workload the office will only respond via letters no information on the phone. When i asked the lady her name she tells me she doesn’t have to give me that information and that she is the only secretary of the office. I told her how can she be employed in an office and speak to customers in such a tone yet not want to state her name? When I asked to speak to her supervisor she said it was Allen Dubois but he was not there. I told her I will be making a complaint on her attitude and she hung up on me. Someone needs to fire this lady because why are you even employed if you don’t want to give your name or any information to the community seeking assistance from your office? Quit your job girl clearly you don’t care for it!

To The Law Office of Neubia L Harris, thank you for your dedication, prompt service, professionalism, and care you’ve shown me. Atty Harris was the only lawyer in NC I could find that was willing to help me hold a school system accountable and not charge me an exorbitant fee. I am grateful and I hope I won’t need your services in the future, but if an issue arises, I will give you a call and will always speak highly and refer your firm. Thank you for your assistance.

I hired attorney Harris to represent my daughter in a case against a school/district where my daughter was wrongfully suspended. I provided a wealth of evidence and documentation and at the time of the hearing attorney Harris asked very few questions to opposing council and school staff. I felt like she was on the side of the school/district instead of my daughter’s side. I was extremely disappointed and she offered only a 30 minute prep right before the hearing. I don’t think she had the time nor reviewed my case as she was paid to do.

Terrible experience. The firm over billed and under delivered. Attempted to resolve the repeated issues with them multiple times but they could careless. I was made the of trustee for a family member almost five years ago. I was fortunate to be referred to Scott as I had no experience in this area. Scott has been there for us from the beginning to the end as we now finalize the estate. Unfortunately we have also faced family squabbling and other legal challenges as large trusts often attract predators. Scott has gone above and beyond to advise us and protect the assets of the trusts during this stressful time. We deeply appreciate his help and continue to rely on him as an ethical compassionate professional.

Daniel fails to zealously fight for his clients. Promises are made without any follow through or action on his part. He routinely failed to know and apply the law and went completely against client requests and refused to provide exculpatory evidence. He was not prepared at court hearings and his egregious disregard to perform his duties as an attorney cost us greatly and has led to severe long term harm.

Still waiting on the results from a case from An auto accident I happened to be the on the receiving end, that occurred on August 25 of 2023. This process has been spotty with Eileen Mullen, she spoke to me maybe twice before a long 5/6 month stretch of no communication. I have been keeping contact as of late but if I’m not calling or asking about my case I don’t get updates. This case prolonging has created more issues for myself and 3 month old twins, the case is keeping us from procuring another vehicle large enough for two car seats. This case has been in the final stage which should only be 10 business days, for over a month going on two months now. If this case continues to drag on I’ll lose my home and my employment due to the lack of funds and transportation. I won’t use Kellum again.

These guys are the absolute definition of trashy ambulance chasers. They are the reason everyone hates lawyers. Yes, they will start off being sugary sweet, they lay it on so thick. But they will not fight for you. If there's anything incorrect in the accident report or any reason for them to actually go into a courtroom and do some work, it is not happening. These guys are looking for the easy case where they can make some money off of your unfortunate circumstance. They don't deliver on what they promise, and I learned my lesson the hard way.

They don’t communicate with you, they lose your files and get you very minimal money and take more money than they pay on your medical bills. They told me they couldn’t get me more money because they didn’t have pictures of my car which I sent to them at the beginning. I’m not sure what exactly they did for me that I couldn’t do for myself. Go somewhere else.

I started an appeal with Attorney Jurney for custody. She didn't do anything on my case for over a year. Afterward, I decided to drop the appeal since the other party filed a motion and moved my case to another county, which was approved by the judge. Attorney Alicia has promised a refund, and almost 2 years later, nothing. They do not answer their calls or return emails when supposed to. I have had mercy and have waited months before writing this review, in fact I wrote a review about 4 months ago, and they reached out to me and told me they were going to get my refund just so I can take the review down, but never heard anything back after multiple emails.

Ms. Jurney is representing me in a child custody and support case. Throughout the prep work to the temporary hearing, I was thoroughly impressed by the amount of information we were able to exchange at each meeting, how quickly Ms. Jurney comprehended complicated expenses and child support calculations, and how well Ms. Jurney prepared herself was for the hearing. Going into the hearing, I already knew that not only was Ms. Jurney a highly effective lawyer, she had also well familiarized herself with the details of my situation and the disturbed mental state of the defendant to be able to handle the examinations well. For me, facing the defendant who abused me for over 10 years was terrifying. Ms. Jurney's calm, confidence, compassion and faith in me was the key that helped me remain calm and focused. From my observation that day and my past experience at other (50B) hearings, her professionalism and competency clearly stood out in the courtroom. I feel very fortunate to have Ms. Jurney representing me.

I hired David Schiller to handle a case for me. He quickly went from easy to contact to not returning calls or emails during the time he was my lawyer. When it came time for him to do work, talking with state investigators investigating the company I was suing, he failed. He communicated to the investigators his perception of my schedule rather than the truth. He told me things about the investigator that I believed to be true (avoiding giving me the investigators info) until I did some digging and found out who the investigator was. Turns out, what David Schiller told me wasn't true. The investigator told me something entirely different. It appears to me that he was manipulating the situation to his benefit rather than helping me, his client. When I called him out for his unethical behavior, he dropped my case. If he had integrity, he would've owned up to his mistakes and worked as a team with me to right his wrong. I looked at reviews and it seems we all have the same story about this guy and a pattern has been formed about his work ethic. I have contacted the state bar and would encourage anyone that has had a similar experience to do the same.

This woman has done nothing but take money, with little to no help at all. She schedules a consult once a week and has only actually consulted my mom the first time and has been a no call for the rest of the scheduled phone meetings. She was told she had a court case this morning, only to find out that nothing was even filed according to the court clerk. My mother is on a fixed income and doesn't have the time to waste going back and forth for a case she was told to attend that didn't even exist due to Holly's lack of filing. Negligence at it's finest. In fact she is a good lawyer (sarcasm), that she had gone through 3 paralegals in a period of 18 months. Shows how professional she is. This lady is a con. This attorney cares absolutely nothing about you. She allowed my exstrange husband to move back onto the home after he abused me, my children and my cat. She wouldn't return phone calls, emails or text messages. She left me out there to drown. When and if I spoke to her she would be lying as she's talking. This attorney only helped herself to thousands of dollars from me only. With what she did I should have defended myself for zero dollars and would have probably receive better results. Only hire her if you want the other side to win.

Hired this lawyer to represent us in a civil case where multiple lawyers were involved. He was more interested in ingratiating himself with the other lawyers than representing our interests. In the end we did not accomplish anything more than other defendants who were not even represented by an attorney and he did not perform his duties with due diligence to get better results. However, he knew how to bill an excessive amount for very poor service.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.

Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.

While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
