What an amazing experience! Megan was absolutely wonderful!!! Can not express enough how thankful I am for her. I've had dealings with Megan for over two years now and I can tell you now, some of these negative reviews are either, flat out lies, or Google claims old reviews from years ago when she had partners as "recently ". There are no men operating out of this office as some of these reviews claim. It's just Megan, her paralegal, and a large friendly dog. Megan is a rare gem in the legal community. A God fearing, horse riding, pistol packing, dog loving, southern belle, who will look you in the eye and speak the honest truth. And she will do it for less of the cost than any other attorney in Williamson County.

Macey has been appointed Guardian ad Litem for my children multiple times over the course of the last almost 4 years. Macey has always put the best interests of my children first. I have had the opportunity while waiting in court to watch her advocate for many children over the last few years, and every time Macey has been meticulous in her role and most importantly supportive of the children. She keeps their best interests at the forefront. She is an intelligent, hardworking, dedicated lady. I would recommend the Law Office of Macey Dawson Gurley to anyone.

If you need a Child Custody lawyer then save your money and go else where. My lawyer was Joshua Polk. He only took thousands of dollars from me with nothing in return. You can never get ahold of him. I went a whole year with no call back. Went to the office and got no where. I would have went with a different lawyer but I had so much money tied up with him and I was a single mother I couldn’t afford to do that again. Finally almost two years of being ignored he finished my case. Only to have paperwork done that I didn’t agree with. Still in the same boat I was 5 years ago! My babies father doesn’t pay child support and all I got thousands of dollars later was a piece of paper that I don’t agree with. Just save yourself and get you a good hearted lawyer that wants to help you and not just after the $$$. I know they might be hard to find but save your money and don’t use Mr. Joshua Polk. I usually don’t write reviews but don’t want someone to go through what I went through!

I had the absolute worst experience with David Waldrop as my divorce attorney. IF YOU ARE A WOMAN GOING THROUGH A DIVORCE, PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS ATTORNEY. He charged me over $6,000 only to get me and my 11-year-old son kicked out of our house just three weeks before the end of the school year. First off, it took him forever to file anything, just like another review stated. When he finally did, my mom drove nine hours to come with me to court, and David called me 20 minutes before the hearing to say the courts messed up and didn’t put us on the docket. I later found out from my husband that David had actually forgotten to file anything. To make matters worse, he then charged me an additional fee to refile what he had messed up and failed to file in the first place. Meanwhile, my husband was torturing me and my son by stealing his game system, my cell phone, and locking us out of the house. David charged me for every single text and call, accomplishing absolutely nothing but getting everything taken from us. I had to fight for my husband to even let me and my son take our personal items. Free legal services reviewed everything and confirmed that I was screwed over big time. I had to quit my job and move to another state because David told me that, due to proof of my husband’s physical abuse, Judge Lundy in DeSoto County said we couldn’t stay in the same home. David told me that Judge Lundy said whoever filed for divorce was the person he was forcing to leave the marital residence. Since I was the one who was abused, I was the one who filed. I told David that didn’t make any sense—why would the judge put me and my minor child, who has no family here and catches the bus at the house, out all because I was abused and filed for divorce? He basically told me he didn’t know, the judge was crazy, and that if I didn’t agree to sign the paper, the judge would force me out and it would be more humiliating and affect future cases. David, who was friends with my husband’s attorney, pressured me into signing an agreement giving my husband the home, leaving my son and me homeless. The first document David gave me said no one was allowed to move into the home, but the second document had that part removed. When I asked about it, he dismissed my concerns and told me to sign it. Now, my husband’s new girlfriend is living in my house. David Waldrop does not care about women, especially single moms. I don’t believe the judge even said what David claimed; I think he colluded with his attorney buddy to get me out of the house. I filed for exclusive use of the home, and hiring David ruined my life. When I told him it seemed like he was working for my husband, he dropped me as a client. I still owe him $2,700, and despite begging to make payments, he sent me a demand letter to pay within five days or face court. My first divorce attorney, George in Southaven, was great and got me everything I asked for for $1,000. David Waldrop, however, has no soul and will drain you of every dollar while helping your husband. I am 38 and have never left a review before, but this experience was so horrific that I had to warn others. Avoid this attorney at all costs. PLEASE NOTICE DAVID’s response to the last single mom’s post in the picture below at the bottom. He called up one of his male clients to give him a fake review in exchange for money off his bill.

As funny as this may sound I decided to retain Ms Grove to represent me in my divorce based on the review posted by "anonymous" in the above comment.Although the review I read was intended to be one of a negative nature regarding Ms.Grove I personally found that it did quite the opposite in my decision on whether to retain Ms.Grove in my upcoming legal battle.Infact, she pointed out several qualities I am looking for in an attorney, especially when you are facing the fight of your life in many ways. That being said ,so far she has lived up to and far exceeded my expectations.Although we have a ways to go in my case Rebecca's no nonsense approach at things have managed to put my mind at ease for the first time in many months.Ms.Grove is without a doubt the type of attorney you want to go to war beside and not against, all the while she keeps a smile on her face and a professional attitude towards all involved.I think the only way you can go wrong with Ms.Grove is if you underestimate her or you have the unfortunate task of being the opposing party.Lol.

Let me first start by saying that my case is complicated and convoluted. Many hoops needed to be jumped thru prior to litigation starting. For years, I thought I was forever stuck with the terrible PPP that I had. My previous lawyer scared me into signing an Agreed Order that was horrible and I was beyond scared to initiate proceedings due to the wording of my horrid PPP. Nonetheless, Ms. Grove accepted the challenge. She listened to my desires and wants. She cared. She became so deeply invested in my case that you could feel her heart and soul were being poured into her work. When my ex’s attorney would attempt to be slanderous or classless, Ms. Grove simply rose above it and instead of partaking in petty exchanges she focused on beating them where it counted - the courtroom. Never, in a million years, did I think an attorney would be as passionate about my case as I am but Ms. Grove proved me wrong. To say I was impressed with Ms. Grove’s representation is an understatement, I was astonished. Hurdle after hurdle was thrown her way and each time she beat those hurdles with facts and law. Sure, Ms. Grove won my case hands down but she did more than that … She transformed our lives. I now have a functioning PPP. A happy child. Things that I have dreamed of for years I now have all thanks to Ms. Grove’s hard work. The stress that lifted off of my shoulders cannot even be put into words. I can’t promise you’ll love Ms. Grove. I can’t promise Ms. Grove is your ‘cup of tea’. However, I can promise you that Ms. Grove will, without a doubt, pour blood, sweat and tears into your case. She will not back down from a fight. She will win with grace and dignity. This is your life we are talking about. Your future. Your children’s lives. Do yourself a favor and at least schedule a consultation with Ms. Grove. She will listen and give you honest feedback about your case even if that means that litigation isn’t the best option at the moment. Ms. Grove is more than attorney to me now. She’s family because she fought so hard for my family that I now consider her one of our own.

She is representing my husband in a divorce that I filed for. I’m not currently represented by an attorney so my husband told me to contact her directly. She has been incredibly unprofessional and has made false allegations and referred to my children who live with us as “freeloaders” and said that she intends to have us all relocated from our home. I asked her to send me a copy of documents and she originally agreed to email them to me and then later said that she isn’t my paralegal and refused to send them. She is incredibly immature and argumentative. She’s not someone I would want representing me. I’m not concerned that she represents my husband. Her threats and attempts at intimidation do not phase me.

What a Litigation Lawyer Can Do for You

A litigation lawyer specializes in representing individuals, businesses, or organizations involved in legal disputes. Whether you're the one filing a lawsuit or you're being sued, a litigation attorney will advocate on your behalf throughout the entire legal process. Their goal is to resolve disputes, either through negotiation, settlement, or trial. Litigation lawyers can help with a wide range of disputes, including contract disagreements, real estate issues, employment disputes, personal injury claims, and more.

Litigation lawyers provide strategic legal advice and manage all aspects of your case, from filing motions to representing you in court, ensuring that your rights are protected and that you have the best chance of achieving a favorable outcome.

When Should I Hire a Litigation Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a litigation lawyer if you're involved in a legal dispute that you cannot resolve on your own. Common situations include:

  • Breach of contract disputes: If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their obligations, a litigation lawyer can help you seek damages or enforce the agreement.
  • Business disputes: Litigation lawyers can represent you in cases of partnership disagreements, intellectual property disputes, or business fraud.
  • Employment disputes: If you're facing issues like wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, or wage disputes, a litigation lawyer can help resolve these matters through negotiation or court action.
  • Personal injury claims: If you've been injured due to someone else's negligence and are seeking compensation, a litigation attorney can help you pursue your case.
  • Real estate or property disputes: When there are conflicts over property ownership, boundary issues, or lease agreements, a litigation lawyer can assist in resolving the dispute.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is beneficial, especially if a lawsuit seems imminent or you have already been served with legal documents.

What Does a Litigation Lawyer Do?

A litigation lawyer handles all aspects of your case, from the initial investigation to the trial and even the appeals process, if necessary. Their role includes:

  • Case assessment and investigation: Analyzing the facts of your case and advising whether it’s worth pursuing or defending.
  • Pleadings and motions: Drafting and filing documents to initiate or respond to a lawsuit, including complaints, motions to dismiss, and answers.
  • Discovery: Gathering evidence, including depositions, interrogatories, and document requests, to build your case.
  • Negotiations and settlement discussions: Attempting to resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration, or settlement talks before going to trial.
  • Trial representation: Presenting your case in court, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making legal arguments before a judge or jury.
  • Appeals: If necessary, filing appeals to challenge or defend the outcome of the trial.

Litigation lawyers are also skilled negotiators and often work to resolve disputes outside of court to save time, money, and stress for their clients.

How Are Litigation Lawyers Paid?

Litigation lawyers typically use a variety of fee structures depending on the type of case, the complexity of the legal matter, and the financial circumstances of the client. Common payment arrangements include:

  • Hourly rates: Many litigation attorneys charge by the hour, with rates varying based on experience and geographic location.
  • Flat fees: For specific, predictable legal tasks (such as filing a motion), lawyers may offer a flat fee.
  • Contingency fees: In personal injury or other cases where you seek damages, a lawyer may work on a contingency basis, taking a percentage of the settlement or award if you win.
  • Retainer: Some clients pay a retainer fee upfront to secure ongoing legal services. The lawyer then bills against this retainer as work is done.

The exact structure should be discussed in the initial consultation to ensure you understand how and when you'll be charged.

How Much Does a Litigation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of a litigation lawyer varies significantly depending on the nature of the dispute and the lawyer’s experience. Factors affecting the cost include:

  • The complexity of the case: More complex litigation involving extensive discovery, expert witnesses, or multi-party suits typically costs more.
  • Time spent: Litigation cases can be time-consuming, especially if they go to trial. The longer the case, the higher the legal fees.
  • Type of fee arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $200 to over $1,000 per hour, depending on the lawyer’s reputation and location. Contingency fees generally range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award.
  • Stage of litigation: Cases that settle early in the process are often less expensive than those that proceed to trial or appeal.

It’s crucial to ask about cost estimates during your initial consultation to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Litigation Lawyer

Before hiring a litigation lawyer, it's essential to ask key questions to ensure you're choosing the right representation:

  1. What is your experience with cases like mine?
Ensure that the lawyer has experience handling your specific type of dispute, whether it's a contract issue, personal injury, or business matter.
  2. What are the potential outcomes of my case?
Ask for an honest assessment of your case's strengths, weaknesses, and the likelihood of success.
  3. What is your fee structure?
Clarify how you'll be charged, whether by the hour, a flat fee, or on a contingency basis.
  4. How long do you expect my case to take?
While it's hard to predict, an experienced lawyer can give you a rough estimate based on similar cases.
  5. How often do you settle cases versus going to trial?
Some lawyers are more inclined to settle, while others may be more experienced in the courtroom. It’s important to understand their strategy.
  6. What is your approach to resolving disputes?
Some lawyers prefer aggressive litigation, while others focus on settlement or mediation. Choose one whose approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of a Litigation Lawyer

To verify a litigation lawyer’s credibility, consider the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Ensure the lawyer is in good standing with the state bar and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online reviews can provide insight into the lawyer’s professionalism and track record.
  • Look for litigation experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they have handled cases like yours and have a record of success.
  • Request references: Ask the lawyer to provide references from past clients who can speak to their effectiveness and approach.
  • Research their trial experience: If your case is likely to go to trial, ensure the lawyer has a history of courtroom success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make your first consultation with a litigation lawyer productive, you should prepare the following:

  • A clear outline of the dispute: Provide a timeline and key details about the legal issue you're facing.
  • Any relevant documents: Bring contracts, emails, letters, or any other documentation that pertains to the case.
  • A list of key players: Provide the names of individuals or companies involved in the dispute.
  • Questions about fees and the litigation process: Make sure you understand how the lawyer plans to approach your case and how you will be charged.
  • Your goals and expectations: Be clear about what outcome you're hoping for, whether it's a settlement, compensation, or another resolution.

By coming prepared, you can ensure that your initial meeting with the lawyer is both efficient and insightful, giving you a better sense of how to proceed with your case.
