I will first start this review, by saying that I highly recommend Nicolet Law Accident & Injury. Nicolet Law recently represented my father who was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident. His attorney John did a phenomenal job representing my father. John explained the process in detail in an easy to understand manner. John worked aggressively to reach a fair settlement in a short time period. John was easy to get ahold of and gave timely updates. Thanks again to John and Nicolet Law.

Was linked up to our lawyer John through our chiropractor and he was amazing!! Touched based a few times, kept us very updated and handled any insurance call, question or problem that arose during my case. I almost forgot I had one because once John was involved, it was one less than thing me and my young family had to deal with. Worth every penny!

In October 2020, I was falsely accused of credit card fraud in Anoka County. The first lawyer I hired should probably try and get a refund from whatever university she got her degree from. My case drag for 1 year and 9 months never meet in person to discuss my case and when I call her to inquire about my case, she yells at me. She negotiated my case to the prosecutor for lesser charge, instead of fighting for my interest. Doesn't know anything about my case she even accused me of committing this crime. So I Fired her! In June of 2022, I hired the services of Brandt Kettwick Defence Law Office. Atty. Danielle "Dani" Peden worked on my case. She was wonderful very professional, knowledgeable and treated me with respect. Two weeks ago she got my case dismissed and I didn't even have to appear in court. What my first lawyer did or did not do for my case for 1 year and 9 months, Atty. Dani Peden worked and got my case dismissed in 6 WEEKS. She's a great lawyer that will fight for you. Even Cathy, the Office Manager did great at communicating news and updates on my case. Now the nightmare is over and I can move on with my life. They are absolutely a life saver. I would absolutely recommend Atty. Dani Peden and her Law Office to anyone needing an aggressive and knowledgeable criminal defense attorney that would fight hard for your rights.

They handled a major custody issue with me, my ex-husband and my kids. I worked specifically with Alexandra Michelson and her team. She was efficient , thorough and empathic to clearly highly emotional situation, she knows the laws and she and her team were prepared and organized especially the days of trial. I was so relieved to be working with someone I could trust to make sure my kids and I could be safe and have someone on our side of the table working with us for the best outcome of my family. I am so grateful for this law firm and their entire team! She knew the system and the folks in the judicial system to make sure we had all we needed to present ourselves in court fairly and concisely. Thank you to this entire team.

I hired this firm because they advertised themselves as one of the top legal practices in the area. However, the attorney assigned to my case, charging $420 per hour, made a significant error in the legal documents she prepared for my case, including an incorrect date. When I brought this to her attention, she responded by stating that I should have caught the mistake before signing the document. I find this level of negligence unacceptable, particularly from a firm that claims to be among the best. When I confronted the attorney about the error and requested that it be corrected, she insisted it was not her responsibility to catch such mistakes and reiterated that I should have identified the error myself before signing. As a result of this oversight, my case is now in a much worse position than when I initially sought the firm’s help. I am now pursuing a legal malpractice lawsuit against both the attorney and the firm, and I plan to file a formal complaint with the state bar in an effort to have her license suspended or revoked due to her actions in this family law matter.

A rare, unfortunate medical injury incident happened to me and I felt very alone, disappointed, and frustrated after calling many different law offices in my state and being turned away. I turned to a Facebook group to air my grievance & seek comfort in a support group. Someone responded with an ad they had seen where OFT Law was seeking anyone who had been affected by my issue. Bart responded to my email immediately and was comforting, helpful and very professional. Everything about this firm’s representation was flawless. Everyone I interacted with were perfect communicators who made sure my husband and I understood every step of the process. I highly recommend trusting these amazing folks with legal counsel. The outcome of our situation greatly exceeded our expectations. Thank you all so much!

Advises clients to do things that go totally against the best interest of the child just to try and win the case for her clients. Absolutely heartbreaking the lows this attorney stoops to. Also, how does a distinguished attorney feel comfortable blatantly lying in correspondences and allowing their clients to lie in court documents? Very scary and sad.

I originally hired Leigh in 2006, I think, to handle my divorce. My wife decided she wanted to try to work through our difficulties and I put the process on hold for a year. I came back to Leigh in 2007 to finish the job. It was fairly long and dragged out process but Leigh kept me informed all the way. Not all tasks took an hour and I was charged accordingly. She is extremely knowledgable and helpful. I highly recommend her and have referred several friends/family members to at least have a conversation with her and decide for themselves. She was a big help, right from the first conversation we had, when I was shopping for a Lawyer. I would not hesitate to hire her again, but hope I never have to :)

Now I know why this law firm has a 2.9 review. people, believe the reviews! Pro: Sarah, the Paralegal, was such a nice person, great conversation and timely response. Now lets get to Mr. Nate or Nathan Con: 1. he autocorrected my name to "peru"... okay, I can see that happening. 2. I painstakingly filled the form, got to the phone call and this is how it went He was talking about will, trust, power of attorney etc. (keep in mind he already knows my family's worth), and like educated people that we are, we had questions (plus, he was speaking fast too, so I had to halt him to repeat some things). Please ask me why after the 2nd question this "fragile ego entity" decided to tell me I was arguing with him and if I wanted to argue he can't be our lawyer. I was stunned (like where did this come from). And my husband was like :we are just asking questions because we are not the expert and wanted to understand. And he literally said (and I kid you not) I'm not used to people asking me questions right out of the gate ( "sigh in my ancestor's language). Anyway, I just told him, "if you already feel this way just after two questions, how would we be able to ask you questions in the future if we don't understand something. I don't think you are the best fit then". Needless to say, he was like "metlife will find you another lawyer". Dude, I spent hours going through lawyers, no one did the work. Anyway, whatever is wrong with this Nate, he needs to go get some "communication 101" course on his learning path.

Deeply disappointed. My response is strictly based on my experience which does not predict how your case will be handled but could be a deciding factor for you. Unresponsive. I have called and left messages and emails and voicemails weekly for a months, it’s been almost a year haven’t heard back from my representation since October of 2021 but , I requested representation back in March 2021. My last message/conversation I received , I was advised paperwork would be filled in order to proceed further. The administrative assistant are always pleasant but, no response is ever return. My calls go straight to voicemail now no one picks, up. At, this point I’m not sure about my case and there’s no one who seems to have interest in seeing that, I can have this proceed further as I was promised in March 2021. Having promises of documents being filled would help my family but tremendously but after a year no response I’m not sure if my claim matters or even if anything ever happened to begin with. I’ll send an update so that you can make an informed decision especially if you have a family who depends on your support.

I had a road rage incident where the guy who did the RR filed a false police report claiming I was the aggressor. I hired Andrew Moran through a friend who had had a good experience with him. The good points: He is very good at responding to questions, e-mails, voicemails, and knows the law. The bad points: My case was difficult, and instead of trying to find a way to represent me fairly, he came out and said that the opposing counsel was going to win and while he didn't outright say it, he made statements that made it appear like he was biased and agreeing with the opposing counsel's side, and that I was wrong for wanting to defend myself in what was an uphill battle. I felt "sold out" and things got worse before they got better. I hired a different attorney who turned things around.

Years ago I hired Rhonda Magnussen for my divorce and possible move out of state. She not only didn’t prepare for my court case… She called my ex Mr. Marty, by his first name, completely unprepared. This impacted my life’s path, and ability to move out of state with my now husband. I do not recommend her for multiple reasons. She did not prepare or even do research on my case. I am a local immigration attorney who needed some legal counsel from this firm. They came highly recommended by another well known attorney. Unfortunately, this firm is a HUGE disappointment to all consumers alike. I hope someone at big business reads this review. There is no onboarding process for this firm. None. You are at the mercy even as a colleague of poorly trained staff and assistants to get someone to pay attention to your case. The communication with this firm has been awful. Emails unanswered. Phone calls ignored. The firm waisted about 2.5 months of my client's case only to send a snarky response that they decline to represent, which is not what we were looking for (we needed a second opinion on case value). The employee (law clerk) who was assigned to our case left midway our project. No one got back to us on that. In sum, take your business elsewhere as I would say this firm has a chronic internal management problem that will continue into representation. If my prospective clients in my firm were treated this way, I would be fired on the spot and rightfully so. If my staff treated anyone the way we were treated, they would be fired on the spot as well for cause. Take note!

So far service doesn't seem to be as good as it has been in past years. I've called multiple times this year to get a return call and no one has ever returned my call.

Erin was very attentive and knowledgeable during my divorce process. She was supportive and kind as well which is important during a divorce. She took time to calmly explain things that were happening during the entire process when things were confusing and stressful. She was willing to listen and was responsive to emails, messages and phone calls. She was a much needed voice of reason during a very difficult time for myself and my family. I would highly recommend her services. Her office and support staff are also friendly and professional.

After years of working with Erin on grand parenting rights ,she did get them for me. However after tens of thousands of dollars in attorney and court fees ,Erin would not file my stayed order of con-tempt on the other party that would"nt follow the court order.Erin sent me a letter of withdrawal of counsel notice. My on going battle with other party still a nightmare, broke without counsel. :

If I had to pick just a couple words for Erin I'd choose intelligent, strategic, and honest. She was incredibly thoughtful about picking strategies that worked in my case--she knew when and how hard to push, when to wait and not "take the bait," and when to change approaches. I had an ex who was abusive and continued those tactics through the legal system, to the extent possible, and she kept me calm through what was a really dark time, I am lucky she was my guide and advocate through it. And we won! I'd recommend her to anyone in a child custody/child support case.

Laura Valentine was my son's public defender for a juvenile case in Scott County (Shakopee). My son/her client is an individual with intellectual disabilities with IQ below 65. Laura Valentine knew there was substantial evidence to support that my son couldn't assist in the legal proceedings due to his developmental disability. Laura Valentine deliberately failed to file for a Rule 20.01 review hearing for Competency Motion. Which violates the Fifth and 14 Amendments, the rights to due process. My son was later adjudicated of the juvenile offenses. But that is not all she did in this case. Kaura Valentine on May 5th, 2020, forced my son to come to court for an in-person after Gov Walz activated the state of emergency stay in order because of COVID-19. I tried to stop the in-person hearing due to my son's asthma and my very serious health condition that put us at a high risk of getting COVID-19. But Laura Valentine didn't care and had my son/client come to Scott County Government anyway where she met him and then she unlocked the door to the courthouse, and they went in the building, it was dark. Laura Valentine turned on the lights. Nobody was in there, just them. They got into the elevator and went to the second or third floor. After reaching the third floor my son/her client had to go to the restroom and Laura Valentine kept walking down the hallway. After my son came out of the restroom and as they started walking towards Laura who was quite a distance down the hallway, about a minute later someone started screaming and yelling coming from behind them. When they turned around to see who was screaming at them. It was the deputy sheriff yelling at them to stop and had his hand on his gun. The deputy sheriff asked them how they get into the building and what was they doing in the building. My son informed the deputy that Laura Valentine his attorney unlocked the courthouse and brought them upstairs. My son and his escort were scared to death because the deputy was very angry that they were in the building when it was closed to the public. The deputy asked Laura Valentine if this was true, and she said yes. The deputy asked her how many other times she did this. Laura replied just once. The deputy took my son and the adult I sent with him back downstairs turned on the metal detector made them walk through it and then escorted them back upstairs. My son and his escort could have been shot and killed in that courthouse behind Laura Valentine forcing my son to a in person when every courthouse in America was closed to the public. Laura Valentine tried to give my son covid by forcing an in-person hearing 6 weeks after the pandemic stay in order and then almost got him and his escort shot and killed because the deputy mistaken them for burglars who had broken into a closed government building. Bottomline what Laura Valentine did in this matter to my son/her client was criminal. This is a very dangerous attorney and should be held accountable for what she did.

Atty. Laura K. Valentine is one of the best attorneys I have had the pleasure to work with. She is not only very informed and responsive to questions, but she takes her clients' cases very seriously and works hard for each one. She is very good at her job, very compassionate and always ready to help your situation regardless in her extreme busy schedule. I felt as though I had a friend in my corner who definitely had me and my daughter best interest in mind. I can't thank Atty. Valentine enough for the tremendous help she had provided me. I highly recommend her.

Used this lawyer as a divorce attorney, she never fought for my best interests and did not inform me of so very many things I should have been aware of when making decisions throughout the divorce process. The final divorce decree that she presented me with for review appeared to be a form that contained items I never agreed to. One item was a life insurance policy for my ex-wife to cover spousal support incase of my death. This was never discussed muchless agreed to, yet it was on the decree, I had to point it out for it to be removed. Through out the divorce all Laura wanted to do was settle, whether it was in my best interest or not. Post divorce I asked her to find out why spousal support was being taken directly from my check versus paying my ex-spourse directly as agreed upon and stated in divorce decree. To my knowledge Laura never followed up with the county, she certainly never followed up with me and has never contacted me again, even after I made several attempts to reach her.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
