Terrible, look elsewhere. She will extend out the process as long as she can and charge alot of money along the way. She is not trustworthy, do not believe in what she says, nearly all of it turns out to be lies in the end

I hired Tom for a family court case as it appeared he would be a top lawyer from their website. I found the actual experience with Tom and his paralegal, Tammy, to be very poor. Tom was terrible in court at a trial, arrived unprepared, and routinely made back door deals with opposing counsel without my consent or knowledge. He also spent more time watching his payment rather than preparing for his cases. His paralegal was very unprofessional as well. When I switched to a different attorney, who happened to be less expensive than Tom, I started winning in court and receiving favorable rulings. Steer clear of this firm as unfortunately they have become more money focused rather than advocating for their clients.

I had a horrific experience with Tom Tuft as my attorney. Attorneys should protect their clients-that was not the case with Tom Tuft. Despite numerous and repeated requests to Tom Tuft to consult with me prior to making decisions regarding my case, Tom Tuft acted and made decisions in numerous instances without consulting me. Tom Tuft was terrible with respect to communications--he routinely failed to return phone calls and emails, failed to forward emails regarding my case to me, and discussed strategy with opposing counsel without my knowledge or prior approval. More importantly, Tom Tuft disclosed personal information about me without my knowledge or approval on numerous occasions. When I requested that Tom Tuft communicate with me prior to making decisions and requested that a portion of my bill be discounted due to the many errors he'd made, Tom Tuft abruptly withdrew as my counsel--without even providing the courtesy of a phone call or any explanation for his actions. Nightmare.

The prior reviewer's comments are spot on in every way. From her unprofessional and combative manner to her unsubstantiated accussations to her lack of listening skills, she not only exacerbated the ill will between me and my ex but simultaneously damaged my poor children for whom she was supposedly advocating for as parenting consultant. She is downright rude, doesn't discern fact from fiction, can't recall her own decisions even though she authored them, and lacks follow through. She overly inserts herself into the case matters and creates issues instead of resolving them....why? Why not? From her perspective each set of co parents is viewed as a revenue stream. It isn't about helping two ex partners resolve issues relative to the children they are co parenting, it is about the money...

Mary Lauhead at times does not see the unintended consequences of her approach towards litigation. While she can be an ardent advocate for her client, she doesn't realize her combative manner alienates co-parents and eliminates any good will. She makes unsubstantiated accussations designed to character assassinate the opposite side. I have found her to be lacking in civility, always combative, and seeks to always have the last word. She is not a good listener and has ruined my relationship with my former spouse.

He is a nightmare and only wants to make sure his interests are obtained which is your money. It is a crime that this person who knows the ropes of the legal system quite well employs them for his own benefit. The irony of it is that he promotes himself to be a defender of victims yet he is the worst of it. This individual missed our deadline rendering our $$$K investment null and void with no recourse. Not only that, he was abusive and refused to listen to anything we had to say. I repeat run from this individual and do not ever pay him by the hour. Anyone else is better as despite his obvious long term affiliation with the courts he is a really big travesty as well as being unprepared for trial. You will do all the work and he will bill you for every second. Plus he also knows how to "soak" a client and a situation so that he maximizes his profits. UGH.

Mr. Hall chose excessive and ineffective litigation in lieu of pragmatic negations. I had to substitute counsel in the midst of a trust dispute. Mr. Chapin took a case to trial without obtaining all the evidence regarding the trust. Mr. Hall seemed unprofessional at the hearing and I was embarrassed by his actions. Immediately after the first hearing, Mr. Hall began excessive and expensive preparations for another hearing, even though the situation had not changed, I requested he pause work, and at the rate he was working, my return on investment significantly decreased as the trust was not very large. Mr. Hall did not add the other beneficiaries to the complaint, saying whatever I received the other beneficiaries would also receive. This was false as I cannot negotiate for another person. He also contradicted himself both on the phone and in writings to the court. As I mentioned, I had to substitute council before the 2nd court proceeding, and even that was difficult since Mr. Hall had submitted so many writings to the court some lawyers would not take the case.

Brad was not helpful in my divorce. He let the opposing counsel push us around. Since my divorce I have had a few lawyers look at my divorce decree and they are surprised he allowed what he did. I should have fired him but he was a flat fee. Big mistake.

They're hungry for your debt collection. They're angry while they talk to you. They call you non-stop and try flooding you with mails DEMANDING you to pay. They threaten you in your phone conversations and by letter mail. But when you try to send them an e-mail, they don't exist. When you call them, they don't know you. When you try to seek help with payment while living in this pandemic, they don't care. What a shady debt collection company. All you guys do is work from home and get paid while Americans are struggling to pay rent. I hope you guys bankrupt and get debt collected as well.

My child was permanently injured for life. Accepting Stephen Rathke was the worst decision of my life. This lawsuit was against a powerful drug/ formula company. He had years to work on this case. On the plane trip to arrive for the case the next day he still did not know some of the most important information needed to try the case. He did not even understand or know how to lay the required foundation to get the evidence to the jury. The Judge threatened to throw him in federal prision at one point during the trial. He dudnt even offer me the plantiffs a seat at the plantiffs table. After I testified I was sat in room as a audience member. He wouldn't allow my child who is diabled, the very reason for the case to come to court. I saw a document presented and given to the jury that had been altered. I had the original document in my hand. He wouldnt say anything about this. He sat in his chair with his chair turned away from the judge. He seldom objected to obvious things he should have. After day 3 of the trial I questioned if he was working for me or the other side. I told him before the trial he was not ready. That we would lose. He needed to delay the case. So I could find a attorney. He was so incompetent. He would not listen to me at all. I feel I could have won the case without him. My child and I live knowing justice was not served. This man should step down from doing any work that involves the welfare of others. His memory is very bad.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
