Ryan Carson reviewed an employment contract for my wife and me. He did so promptly, professionally and thoroughly. I was impressed by the balance he struck between a rigorous fine-toothed-comb approach and a global "what does this mean" assessment. He explained technical matters in clear language for our lay ears.

She left me unprotected in my PSA, requiring my ex’s name be removed from my home mortgage, but NOT requiring my ex to remove my name from two commericial properties, leaving me millions in debt with an evermore plummeting credit score tied to my ex’s action. She allowed opposing counsel to cut my proposed budget in half without specifics, as well as to bully me directly continually. She allowed the divorce coach to repeatedly badger me regarding my ex’s tardiness, creating a toxic NON-collaborative, litigious environment. She never discussed my need for a QDRO resulting in a year-long struggle transferring a retirement account.

Rachel Felbeck was my attorney in a collaborative divorce several years ago. She was superb in providing information and support during a very painful ending to a long term marriage. While my former spouse and I had no minor children, the marital settlement agreement was complicated, and I was impressed by Rachel's ability to guide both of us through the process. We met indivially as well as with our collaborative team. She was responsive to requests for information but more importantly to providing clarity to different options that might be taken. I found it easy to communicate with her. I will be forever grateful for her help at a very painful transition in my life.

Tried working with this asshat but he was arrogant and obnoxious. Would get angry and throw fits for no reason and is a total misogynist who treats woman horribly and then gaslights them into submission. I know this because Seattle is a small town and we share mutual acquaintances he wasn’t aware of. He boasted that he “lulls clients into a feeling of false security” and “does whatever it takes to destroy people.” This guys is an manipulative and lying creep. Be advised to stay away.

Dena was highly recommended by a friend who used her in his divorce, and I am pleased to say she exceeded my high expectations in handling my divorce. I always felt like Dena listened to me and genuinely cared about my case and what I was going through as person. She even return my calls during the weekend when I needed her advice most! I'm not sure anyone really "wins" in a bitter divorce involving children, but Dena used her exceptional knowledge of family law and negotiating skills to achieve a better than expected outcome for me in resolving my case. I would not hesitate to use her services again should the need arise.

Hiring an attorney is the biggest case to whatever you are trying to achieve. I had the unfortunate pleasure dealing with this attorney. There is no communication except email and thats after 3-4 weeks prior asking her a question. We (the clients) put our trust in attorneys to do their job and needless to say she was horrific. She got me fined by the court for paperwork that I turned in early and never told meI was fined because weather she forgot or refused to turn it in. If you are a complete moron, then this woman is the perfect person. If you want someone to fight for you, communicate with you and shows she cares as well as do their job, this woman is FAR from what you are looking for. I wish she fought as much as she was fighting for fees. Buyer be wear!!! I fired her and she had the audacity to start sending documents to opposing counsel 21 minutes after she was terminated and in 10 months, never sent or recieved 1 document. Child endangerment issues, she did nothing. Absolute joke of an attorney!!! Attorney makes or breaks your case and this attorney breaks your case.

Anne Gould is dishonest and did not have my best interests at heart, nor did she care about my children. She created mess after mess and was angry. She told me too much about her personal life that had fallen apart. She is very unprofessional, did not get critical information on the record and failed my family. I can't believe anyone would give her five stars. Anne let opposing counsel have his way and ruined my life without any remorse. She shouldn't be allowed to practice law. I recommend that you choose other counsel.

Frankly, if you think "divorce lawyer", RUN AWAY from this one. She has been a complete waste of my time and my money. I mean literally... after spending about $20,000 and countless hours doing exactly what she wanted me to do and filling all the documents, I ended up with a commissioner sentence that was exactly the opposite of what we were looking for, and it sided 100% (Yes! let me insist ONE HUNDRED PERCENT) with my spouse. Without investing on her and therefore saving lots of money and time, I could have not gotten less. To add to that already dismal feeling, she has an attitude, kind of condescending and cold, which I thought naively could have been a plus in the trial.

I would love to give Anne a 10 star rating. Unfortunately I can only go to five. I've only needed her services once and she was a rock star. Anne fought for me and always had my best interests in mind. She is very smart, fair, helpful, kind, and honest. The dissolution of my marriage was settled through mediation (she avoided the ridiculously expensive court costs) and the result was very fair and the best outcome for the circumstances. If I ever choose to marry again I’m definitely having Anne write my pre-nip! Anyone who is going through it knows that divorce is absolutely draining. It drains time, money and energy. Anne kept it from draining my soul. She's awesome.

We have had to use Cheryl a few times and the reviews are very accurate, she pushes her agenda on you. Mediation is not arbitration but she claims that if you don’t agree she will then arbitrate. Do not go in without any attorney! She will side with one person, that’s normally the one she talks to first. Not a clue how she has not been disbarred for her antics. I plan on filing a complaint with the bar association.

As others have said. Biased, close minded, unprofessional, money wasting, and will side with one. Once that happens the other side is done. Blind to facts and reason. Then she’ll issue a ruling that is full of errors and impossible to meet conditions. She doesn’t resolve conflict she creates new problems to fight over.

Barbara Joe is a superior trial lawyer who has mastered her discipline. I have used her twice in two equally as difficult of cases with excellent outcomes. She conducts her business in the most professional manner like no other. In Pierce County, all trial lawyers know her and respect her.

My case was mishandled due to Barbara Jo's awful demeanor in court with opposing counsel and the Judge. To be specific, Judge Arend. I heard that she was a "go-getter", but she overcharged me, rarely, if ever, returned emails/phone calls, and her aggressive style in court was repeatedly rude and unsuccessful. This was on a custody case in 2010-2011 and I would never use her again.

I had a bad experience with Mrs. Sylvester and her law office. I called her office several times and never could get a hold of her. She has too many clients and I did not feel like she had time to devote herself to my case. Because of that, I do not recommend her to anyone.

On 8/22/2012 myself and my husband hired Mr. Penfield to represent us on our appeal case. His consultation was a FREE consultation. We sat across from him in his conference room in Bellevue, WA as he entered and rentered the room as he also was handling some sort of arbitration issues with other clients over the phone. This is the reason why we were there for two hours. He went over the pertinent documents to determine if he wanted to take our case. He stated he did and then he asked us for $10K up front. I said NO. Cannot do that. He sthen said $5K + referrals and had Michelle, his secretary make up the contract. I did refer one person to him within a week. He took my money and said he thought we had a great case. The brief was due in Pierce County COAII in approx. 35-40 days from the time we met with Mr. Penfield. I spent a lot of money getting all the necessary documents to COAII so the only thing left to do was file the brief. As the deadline for the brief due date neared, I became concerned, as Mr. Penfield never filed a Notice of Appearance. He took my case and my money but never filed a notice of appearance? This means Mr. Penfield never really intended on representing me, but made me believe otherwise and waited until the 11th hour to notify me so I was faced with a serious time crunch. After I left several messages and emails Mr. Penfield finally responded and stated that he did not think we had a good case and he is not going to represent us in the appeal. He then said we should just move to mediation. This was not possible because we did not have a valid Notice of Default. Mr. Penfield who is supposedly up on foreclosure statutes certainly would know that one needs a valid NOD to go to mediation under the department of commerce in our state. This to me is a conflict. Mr. Penfield's contract was a flat fee contract to write the appeal, which he never did. He then issued me a new contract for mediation. He said all of the money was spent and really his hourly fee is $375 per hour, which was not specified anywhere on his contract and if that was his fee to begin with we would have never hired him.

Read all of these reviews. Also, find the website, penfieldsvictims.com. Everyone, including myself reports the same behaviors from this guy. Offers his expertise, takes your money, then goes completely dark. If you do manage to get a hold of him, he has a half-a$$ story about how things are going and then excuses about how is world is overly difficult and makes it impossible for him to conduct his business. He is a fraud. DO NOT GO NEAR THIS GUY or you will not only lose your money, you will lose whatever you hired him to help you protect.

I hired Bob over 3 years ago to help me with two matters. The first one involved my marriage. Bob was ever so gracious at our initial meeting. However, when it came down to doing anything he bluffed his way through until 1 week before our court date. Then he told me that a superior court judge had already ruled and we had no recourse. The second involved a fraudulent bank loan. Bob wrote the complaint over and over but never filed it. This took 2 years, as he always had excuses about problems with his family or he had been in the hospital, or his car broke down. You name it, he had the excuse. Just recently Bob was aware that I got some money and he asked me for a loan. When I denied him he said he needed to pay his staff before he could move forward, and charged me an additional $500 over and above the agreed upon amount to solve my case. That was the last I heard from him.

What a Mediation Lawyer Can Do for You

A mediation lawyer specializes in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom through a process called mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third-party mediator who helps the disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement. Mediation lawyers can represent clients in various matters, including divorce, business disputes, employment conflicts, contract issues, personal injury claims, and more.

Unlike litigation, mediation is a less adversarial and more cost-effective way to settle disputes, often leading to faster resolutions and preserving relationships between the parties involved.

When Should I Hire a Mediation Lawyer?

Consider hiring a mediation lawyer when you’re involved in a dispute and want to avoid the time, expense, and stress of going to court. Common reasons to hire a mediation lawyer include:

  • Divorce or child custody disputes: A mediation lawyer can help you reach a fair settlement on issues like property division, alimony, and parenting arrangements without going to court.
  • Business or contract disputes: For disagreements such as contract disputes, partnership conflicts, or intellectual property issues, a mediation lawyer can assist in resolving the matter through negotiation.
  • Employment disputes: Issues like wrongful termination, discrimination, or wage disputes can be addressed through mediation to find common ground and avoid lawsuits.
  • Personal injury cases: Mediation can help both parties agree on compensation in cases like car accidents or slip-and-fall claims without a prolonged court battle.
  • Property disputes: Disputes over property ownership, landlord-tenant issues, or boundary disagreements can be settled more amicably through mediation.
  • Family or inheritance disputes: Mediation can help resolve conflicts over wills or trusts without further dividing the family.

What Does a Mediation Lawyer Do?

A mediation lawyer provides a range of services to help clients resolve disputes through negotiation and mutual agreement. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Representing your interests: Acting as your advocate during mediation to ensure your rights are protected and you understand your legal options.
  • Preparing for mediation: Reviewing the facts of the case, gathering necessary documents, and advising you on potential resolutions.
  • Facilitating communication: Helping to facilitate open and constructive dialogue between parties to clarify points of contention.
  • Negotiating settlements: Assisting in negotiating fair and balanced settlement terms that are in your best interest.
  • Drafting mediation agreements: Preparing the official mediation agreement that outlines the terms of the settlement, which is often legally binding.
  • Avoiding litigation: Aiming to reach a settlement that eliminates the need for a court trial, saving time and resources for both parties.
  • Handling complex legal issues: Explaining the legal implications of various settlement terms in cases with complicated legal matters.

How Are Mediation Lawyers Paid?

Mediation lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the case and the time involved. Common payment methods include:

  • Hourly rate: Charging an hourly fee ranging from $150 to $500 or more, depending on experience and case complexity.
  • Flat fee: For simpler mediations, some lawyers may offer a flat fee covering all legal work involved in the process.
  • Retainer: In ongoing or complex cases, a retainer may be required as an upfront payment billed against as work progresses.

Discuss fees and payment structures with your lawyer during the initial consultation to understand the cost of mediation services.

How Much Does a Mediation Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a mediation lawyer depends on several factors, including the case's complexity, the lawyer’s experience, and the time required to resolve the dispute. General cost estimates include:

  • Hourly rates: Typically between $150 and $500 per hour.
  • Flat fees: For simple mediations, fees may range from $1,000 to $5,000.
  • Total mediation costs: Can vary widely, from $2,000 to $10,000 for straightforward cases, up to $10,000 to $50,000 or more for complex disputes.

Always request a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand total expenses.

Top Questions to Ask a Mediation Lawyer

Before hiring a mediation lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with mediation cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in handling similar disputes.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify the fee structure and request an estimate based on your specific case.
  3. What is the likelihood of resolving my case through mediation?
Seek an honest assessment of whether mediation is suitable for your situation.
  4. How long will the mediation process take?
Inquire about the expected timeline and number of sessions required.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
Confirm who will manage your mediation and represent your interests.
  6. Can we pursue alternative dispute resolution (ADR) if necessary?
Ask about other forms of ADR, such as arbitration, if mediation doesn't resolve the conflict.

How to Check the Credibility of a Mediation Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable mediation lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Confirm with your state bar association that the lawyer is licensed and has no disciplinary history.
  • Look for mediation experience: Review their website or professional profile for specialization in mediation and successful case histories.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Check platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google for client feedback.
  • Ask for references: Request references from past clients familiar with their mediation skills.
  • Check for certifications: Look for certifications from organizations like the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR).

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Relevant documents: Any materials related to the dispute, such as contracts, emails, financial records, or court filings.
  • List of key issues: A detailed list of the main points of contention that need resolution.
  • Timeline of events: A chronological account of events leading up to the dispute, including prior resolution attempts.
  • Goals for the mediation: Be prepared to discuss your desired outcomes and areas where you're willing to compromise.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Any queries about the mediation process, fees, or their approach to dispute resolution.

Being well-prepared will help the lawyer assess your case effectively and provide the best possible advice for resolving your dispute through mediation.
