Jack and his staff were superb! I am not a direct family member but I was at the consultation for moral support to my grieving family after having lost their father, my uncle. Jack took the case and resolved it with a great outcome. He advised that it would not be an easy case but his experts, they were able to sue the nursing home and make them accountable.

I hired Jack back in 2020 to work on a wrongful death claim. I just received a letter in the mail that he dropped my case. No explanation. Nothing. His assistant talked to me probably 4 times. I talked to Jack twice. I have three months before this case can never be tried. Come to find out Jack never filed anything or did anything on this case. This is just wrong. All he did was waste a year and a half.

I hired Jack to deal with a nursing home case involving my grandmother and cannot say enough about his professionalism and service. Not only was he able to provide an invaluable wealth of information, he was able to handle the the delicate subject matter and provide my family with comfort and closure, something I will forever be in his debt for.

I wrote a previous review. I was contracted process service. Never could get anyone to open the door, answer the phone, and he doesn't even put his name on the door. Did the work, but he ghosted me. Had to send a demand letter by Certified mail. I finally got the affidavits sent to State of Florida Child Support via One Serve Legal. Mr. Gandsra blocked the service app from producing any affidavits. I never got paid.

I thoroughly appreciated my experience with Bickham Law. After meeting with Tom first and then Elizabeth, I never looked back or had any regrets. Why...Because Bickham Law went above and beyond to facilitate my needs as a client. They worked in my best interest from start to finish, holding my hand and communicating to a level I could understand every step of the way - making any decision I had to make clear and concise. They were knowledgeable, courteous and Super professional. They use a team approach to get outstanding results. They have the market on the Personal Touch. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND anyone needing Personal Injury Representation to call them ASAP.

Landlords seem to be granted the upper hand in renting transactions. I called 6 lawyers who all told me NO before I found Grant. I appreciated him taking my case against an unscrupulous landlord who denied me information about the return of my security deposit and thence payment of said deposit. He and Delisa communicated actions needed and proceeded upon my responses. Grant's communications with my ex-landlord resulted in the return of my deposit without having to drag it all out in small claims court. Without hesitation, I will call on Grant for any other legal assistance in his realm of expertise!

Would give ZERO stars If I could. Communication was atrocious. Lauren failed to follow through with our executed agreement, missed court deadlines, failed to file paperwork in a timely manner and failed to make court appearances. Her actions led to the dismissal of my case before my day in court. Now it's too late. Find a responsible attorney, instead.

I've had a few attorneys before. Lauren started off pretty well. She told me everything I wanted to hear to get my case the basically disappeared. I hired this attorney to handle my case. I interviewed the firm and was assigned to her. No wonder she was available as she was absolutely the worst attorney I have ever hired. She was rude and her knowledge of law was very weak. I terminated her and the firm early and went to another attorney in town. There were errors in the knowledge that she shared with me. She cited wrong case law and there were errors in my paperwork.

Took our retainer $2500 and submitted 2 documents to the courts. Did not hear anything from him in 3 months. I've called his firm for 6 months attempting to ask what was going on with our case. NEVER answered or returned my calls. NEVER sent a contract statment or a billing statement. I finally wrote a letter of termination. I've called to ask for refund of monies and still won't take my calls. Totally unprofessional. Would NOT recommend him. Since then I have hired a professional lawyer.

My daughter passed away at birth 1998 and we hired Ryan as our lawyer. We were told by Ryan we needed to file a paper to show we were serious. Less than a month later he called with news hospital was ready to settle. He also informed us that his fee was 40% plus expenses, I told him it was 33% unless we went to court' He informed me because we filed that the paper he claimed was needed it was 40%. I told him I did not care if we ever settled that he misled us Just then phone started beeping because it was running out of batteries.Ryan was concerned I was taping him.I told him what do have to worry about. Then I told him the reason for beeping and hung up. Needles to say he had us over a barrel. So out of the goodness of his black heart he settled for 36% with hospital and 40% for doctor plus expenses. He ended up with more money then we received from doctor after expenses about 60/40. Expenses very questionable restaurants experts/ friends! I did try to file in 2000 with State bar in Austin but gave up it is difficult. Since then my son passed away also. I started thinking people do not need the person who is supposed to help take advantage of your lack of knowledge during the worst time of your life. In his defense this happened 19 years ago maybe he changed. Please beware!

Ms. Maloney never bothered to return my phone calls after I discussed my case in detail with her assistant Eileen. After several phone calls to find out why Ms. Maloney would not return my calls, some assistant got on the phone and told me she was not interested in handling my case. She refused to speak with me to at least explain why she would not handle the case, and her assistant Eileen also refused to speak with me again to explain why Ms. Maloney would not handle the case. At this point, I would not hire Ms. Maloney to handle a traffic ticket, much less a medical malpractice case with good merits. I would not recommend her to anyone who needs any type of legal help.

I had originally posted a review praising this attorney but certain important, life altering things have come to light a year later that has left me very saddened and disappointed. She was hired to represent me in a Medical Malpractice case but after review of documents filed by this attorney against my wishes my rights were taken away from me. I should have had an attorney to review documents before trusting her. I feel my civil rights have been violated. If you hire any attorney do not trust them, have another non partial attorney review every document.

What a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Can Do for You

A medical malpractice lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been harmed due to the negligence or misconduct of healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, or hospitals. These lawyers assist in cases where a healthcare provider deviates from the accepted standard of care, resulting in injury or death. Medical malpractice cases can involve misdiagnosis, surgical errors, medication mistakes, birth injuries, and other forms of medical negligence.

If you or a loved one has suffered harm due to improper medical treatment, a medical malpractice lawyer can help you understand your legal options, file a lawsuit, and pursue compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages.

When Should I Hire a Medical Malpractice Lawyer?

Hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is essential if you’ve been seriously injured due to the negligence of a healthcare provider or institution. Situations where you should seek legal representation include:

  • Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis: If a doctor fails to diagnose or delays diagnosing a medical condition, leading to harm or progression of the illness.
  • Surgical errors: Harm resulting from surgical mistakes such as operating on the wrong site, leaving instruments inside the body, or performing unnecessary procedures.
  • Medication errors: Injuries caused by prescribing the wrong medication or dosage, or mistakes made by pharmacists in dispensing drugs.
  • Birth injuries: Injuries to a newborn due to medical negligence during labor and delivery, such as failing to perform a timely C-section or improper use of delivery instruments.
  • Anesthesia errors: Complications arising from improperly administered anesthesia, which can lead to serious injury or death.
  • Inadequate follow-up or aftercare: Suffering due to lack of proper monitoring or care after a medical procedure, leading to complications.
  • Hospital or nursing home negligence: Harm caused by the negligence of hospital staff, nurses, or administrators who failed to provide adequate care.

Medical malpractice cases are complex, and hiring a lawyer early can help ensure your rights are protected and your case is handled effectively.

What Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Do?

A medical malpractice lawyer provides various legal services to help injured patients hold negligent healthcare providers accountable. Their responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating your case: Reviewing medical records and consulting with experts to determine if you have a viable claim based on the standard of care and harm suffered.
  • Filing a lawsuit: Initiating legal action by filing a complaint against the responsible parties in the appropriate court.
  • Gathering evidence: Collecting medical records, expert testimonies, and other relevant evidence to build a strong case.
  • Negotiating with insurance companies: Working to secure a fair settlement that compensates you for your injuries without the need for a trial.
  • Litigating in court: Representing you during trial proceedings if a settlement cannot be reached, presenting evidence and arguing your case.
  • Calculating damages: Assessing the full extent of your losses, including medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and future care needs.
  • Handling expert testimony: Coordinating with medical experts who can testify on how the standard of care was breached and how it led to your injuries.

How Are Medical Malpractice Lawyers Paid?

Most medical malpractice lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, which means they only get paid if they recover compensation for you. Key aspects of this payment structure include:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer's fee is typically between 25% and 40% of the settlement or award.
  • No upfront costs: You do not pay any legal fees unless the lawyer successfully recovers compensation on your behalf.
  • Case expenses: Costs for expert witnesses, medical record retrieval, and court fees may be deducted from your settlement or award in addition to the lawyer's fee.

Always discuss the fee arrangement during your initial consultation to understand your financial obligations.

How Much Does a Medical Malpractice Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a medical malpractice lawyer is usually based on a contingency fee model. General estimates include:

  • Contingency fee: Lawyers typically charge between 25% and 40% of the total recovery amount.
  • Case expenses: Additional costs such as expert witness fees and court expenses can range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the case complexity.

Ensure you receive a clear explanation of all potential fees and expenses before proceeding with your case.

Top Questions to Ask a Medical Malpractice Lawyer

Before hiring a medical malpractice lawyer, consider asking the following questions:

  1. What experience do you have with medical malpractice cases like mine?
Confirm the lawyer has a successful track record with similar cases.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Understand the contingency fee percentage and any additional costs you may incur.
  3. What is the likelihood of success in my case?
Seek an honest assessment of your case's strengths and potential challenges.
  4. How long will the process take?
Get an estimate of the timeline for settling or taking the case to trial.
  5. Will you handle my case personally?
Ensure you know who will be managing your case and their level of involvement.
  6. Have you worked with expert witnesses?
Verify the lawyer's experience in collaborating with medical experts essential for your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Medical Malpractice Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association for their license and any disciplinary actions.
  • Review their experience: Look for specialization in medical malpractice and a history of successful cases.
  • Read client reviews: Consult platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell for testimonials and ratings.
  • Ask for references: Request contact information of previous clients willing to discuss their experience.
  • Check professional affiliations: Membership in organizations like the American Association for Justice (AAJ) indicates a commitment to the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial meeting, bring the following:

  • Medical records: All documents related to your treatment and injury.
  • Evidence of harm: Photos, medical bills, and records of lost wages.
  • Communication records: Any correspondence with healthcare providers or institutions.
  • List of healthcare providers: Names and contact information of all involved medical personnel.
  • Questions for the lawyer: A prepared list to address all your concerns.
  • Timeline of events: A detailed chronology of your medical care and the issues encountered.

Being well-prepared helps the lawyer assess your case accurately and advise you on the best course of action.
