Mr Dominguez and Kelley did a wonderful job handling my grandfather’s case and getting him the best settlements possible for both himself and the loss of my grandmother. We are both grateful for their patience, expertise and professionalism during this difficult time. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone in need of a car accident or personal injury attorney.

Hello. I had a very unpleasant experience with Will Jenkins. Just because he passed the BAR and is well-versed in legal and lawyer jargon does not give him the right to bully me or speak to me in a disrespectful fashion. I text him with a few qus re: personal property on a transaction he was overseeing and he started throwing words out like "breach of contract allows us to void the contract", "im still allowing you to pick it up at this point", and "pick it up at this time or im selling it to someone else... All because i had concerns and asked a few simple questions. I then went in to make a final pymt. I told him i didnt appreciate him being disrespectful and bullying me prior in those texts and that id like to speak to the Senior Partner to express my concerns. He says "you bullied a woman", "im a partner, the senior partner is not available, you can talk to me" "Hes going to side with me anyways" I told him ill never do business here nor will i refer anyone. The cherry on top-- he proceeds to say: " WHO CARES; WE'LL BE SUCCESSFUL ANYWAY" lol what kind of legitimate, professional law firm does business like that? Do they really engage the community and perspective clients like that? I was blown away. I even emailed the Senior Partner. He never responded. I guess he did side with him... Oh well. Just wanted to share my experience. Dont come here...

If you only care about money and asset division in your divorce, then Rosalie might be a good choice. I was extremely clear from the beginning that my child's welfare and living situation was my only concern and she spent the majority of her time on financial discovery and failed to adequately represent me at the custody hearing. She billed me during facilitation while her camera was off and she was working on someone else's case. After I emailed about the charges, Tamara reduced the bill. Tamara switched me to Rosalie without my consent and she failed to read the letter I sent describing my situation before we spoke the first time. She did not prep me for the custody hearing and did not make any strong arguments in my favor and the judge did nothing about an awful living situation. She did not represent me well during facilitation and I got virtually nothing I wanted because of her failure to fight on my behalf. I wish I never hired this firm.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I chose Tamara because of her strong assertive personality, and because she was understanding about my financial situation and agreed to keep costs as low as possible. I had escaped a very bad marriage, and couldn’t afford a lawyer to get a divorce, which I just decided to live with since my ex moved across country and couldn’t hurt me too much from that far away. But a year later, my ex was diagnosed with a serious medical condition that required brain surgery, and his family tricked me into giving them my address and sent all the medical bills my way. It was tens of thousands of dollars, and I was still broke from leaving the marriage in the first place. I was so scared and realized I needed a divorce asap. I had to save up for a year to afford the retainer, and was initially told I would probably have to pay at least half of the medical bills. But in the end, Tamara got me out of ALL of the bills, out of my marriage, AND kept costs so low that she gave me half of my retainer back! Truly life-changing work that she did for me; I would not be in the place I am today without her help.

Alvin Garcia is one of the best attorneys in New Mexico that I have dealt with. He is knowledgeable, professional, smart and friendly in what he does. He is a God sent attorney that picked up my broken case and worked it fast. I immediately felt that I was in good hands when I met Alvin and that he is not only good at what he does, but he cares for people and that is a big plus. He also has a great and professional staff that work with him and that makes a difference. Thank you Alvin!! I appreciate you BIG🙏☺️

I had to submit a complaint against Mr. Alvin Garcia to the NM Bar Association because of his horrendous conduct and representation. Mr. Garcia represented me in a civil case, and I was the defendant. All he had to do was keep the ball away from the opposing team, play not to lose. However, at every hearing, deposition, filing, and event, Mr. Garcia simply handed the ball, gift-wrapped, to the opposing team, and walked away from the endzone. The case lasted nearly three years, and the best I can ascertain, it lasted that long solely because of the numerous shortcomings and incompetence of Garcia. The plaintiff's case was so weak that the plaintiff had four different attorneys represent her during the case, and again, she did not prevail, not on even one single allegation. His performance and conduct at both hearings and depositions was deplorable and unbecoming of a licensed professional. Case in point, there was a hearing whereby the plaintiff was provided the opportunity to testify to the alleged assault and alleged harassment I committed against her. Prior to the hearing, Alvin Garcia had in his possession our own evidence to exonerate me from the allegation, however, Alvin Garcia was completely unprepared on nearly every front. First, his opening statement consisted of him stammering, an overabundance of, “ums,” mumbling, shuffling of papers, and long awkward silences. Garcia was essentially the proverbial deer in headlights. No less than eight (8) times did the judge have to stop the proceeding and admonish him. Then he had rapid fire freestyle questions without giving the respondent an opportunity to respond, did not seem to listen to the response because he jetted from one topic to another, and mostly irrelevant topics at that. The ineptitude never ceased, not submitting evidence prior to the hearing, unable to use evidence because it was not submitted, and submitting evidence and not using it during the hearings. Next, his billing practices are certainly the most bizarre. He would constantly make thinly veiled threats to me that if I did not pay him, he would stop working on the case. The best I can ascertain, he stopped working on the case multiple times, causing irreparable harm. However, not once was I ever late on a payment. Then, by sheer ineptitude sent by email to the opposing counsel, protected attorney client privileged information intended only for Garcia. He was habitually late to meetings, unprepared, and would take phone calls during our meetings, constantly interrupting me and others, wasting time and my money by talking at length about other cases, disparaging the opposing attorney. The best I can ascertain, 90% of his work products and deliverables were complete waste. In other words, work products unfit for use and unfit for purpose along with the most pathetic representation. Alvin Garcia could have easily destroyed the plaintiffs credibility with a single deposition within the first year of the case, however, by sheer recklessness, he did not depose the plaintiff a single time over a period of three years. I attempted to work with him, detailed feedback, the importance of quality control, the importance that speed wins, and quality work products win. However, his attitude was that he was doing great, and if I didn’t like it then he would quit, then followed by threats to stop work and his response that if there was an issue, it was the fault of the opposing counsel, not his. In closing, I have worked with many attorneys in the past, thus I am aware of what constitutes professional attorney work products, and I am aware of the overall conduct of a competent and professional attorney. Not only is Garcia a travesty to the legal profession, but he is also dangerous because he is easily going to bankrupt some poor innocent victim, or incarcerate a completely innocent person. Must be disbarred!

NM Divorce & Custody Law, LLC was very helpful in resolving a lawsuit set in motion by my late husband's mother. She was very straight forward with me right from the get-go (which I appreciated) and was not afraid to "tell-it-like-is" and give her opinion to my mother-in-law's attorney. She also gave great advice and instilled confidence in how to deal with my mother-in-law's nasty behavior and requests. The lawsuit was finally settled without too much drama. My favorite things about her are how straight forward and to the point she is.

I needed a good attorney in NM, and I live in another state, so I went to Google to search. I read the reviews about NM Divorce & Custody Law and followed up with reading Tamara's bio, the rest is history. Her and her Team are the ABSOLUTE BEST to have on my side!! Working with her on my divorce has been great. She is very considerate of time and cost. She is very aggressive in her dealings with the opposing counsel. She takes care of business quickly and accurately. She is very knowledgeable and understood what I was saying, even when I didn't. In the beginning I had no clue what my rights were. Tamara explained what I had a right to have in the divorce and to work through the hardship of getting it. She kept me constantly informed of any and all changes. Her staff is amazing too! Very helpful and understanding. I appreciate their consistently throughout the process. I highly recommend this Law Firm.

I engaged Betsy Salcedo and Gregory Gahan to help with two cases. Betsy Salcedo was the presiding attorney. We had meetings, emails and discussions for how my case would be handled. Gregory Gahan was my court representative. He was completely unprepared for my hearing despite all of my own preparations which cost me a lot of time and money. I did a ton of leg work for him. Gregory Gahan waited until the last minute to prepare for my hearing and then completely blew everything despite Betsy Salcedo's assurance that they were in fact prepared. Betsy Salcedo and Gregory Gahan will drain your retainer and finances and then when it is time to represent you in court, completely fail. Behind my back and without my permission Gregory Gahan asked the opposing party for a Motion for Continuance on the day of the hearing....after knowing with Covid and the death of the Presiding Judge I had eagerly awaited this hearing for 6 long months. I ended up being pigeon holed into an agreement that I was sorely disappointed in. If Betsy Salcedo and or Gregory Gahan blew your case, please report them to the NM State Bar and the BBB. Post your story, be heard. Betsy Salcedo and Gregory Gahan are scam artists. They should not be practicing law. If that is not enough, Betsy Salcedo is completely disrespectful. Betsy Salcedo has a bad habit of talking over people. Betsy Salcedo is arrogant and will insult you and demean you. I truly wish I never met Betsy Salcedo or Gregory Gahan. They have drained my bank account and my time. They completely botched my court case, they failed to defend me as promised. Why on earth would a lawyer who is hired in good faith wait until the day before the hearing to get the hearing audio. Why would a lawyer go behind a client's back and ask for a Motion that a client had not approved. Furthermore, Gregory Gahan did not copy me on the email he sent the opposing party. When I asked Betsy Salcedo and Gregory Gahan to please send me a copy of the email requesting a Motion for Continuance which I did not approve they refused. I made this request 3 times. I finally had to terminate both of these lawyers. I guarantee they will overcharge me even though they failed to do their job.

LICENSE IS INACTIVE. Worst attorney ever! The things you did on my case Greg was unethical! And you know exactly what unethical things I'm talking about I should have turned you in. Research this attorney. He has had big problems of his own. I wouldn't waste my money. Failure. How does an attorney with 20 plus years experience only have 3 reviews? Please. Its because he is a horrible attorney. Find another attorney. Many more better attorneys out there. Go get yourself one. Greg forgets his lack of abilities have life long affects on people. Find an attorney who cares about you. They are out there.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
