Attorney McQuillan did Probate work as I was the Trustee for my mother. He is very well-versed and no greedy family member, proved to be too much for him. He also advised me on a Workers Comp issue, and it was "time sensitive." He always comes through and he is beyond fair. I do not like attorneys at all, but he is a rare breed with humanity, that others lack. HIGHLY recommended. 200 STARS~

Attorney McQuillan and every single person in the firm, are the "best of the best". They all work as a team, and they respond to you very quickly. Attorney McQuillan is very experienced in all things PROBATE, and he represented me as trustee, and also assisted in everything related to this unpleasant task, including probate court. I would tell everyone that has any legal need to call this firm. They handle every aspect and will direct you to the attorney best suited towards your needs. They are very fair and really do a thorough job.

We retained Tom this past year and couldn't have been happier. From the very beginning, it was clear that Tom knew the law, the court system and had direct experience with our specific type of case. I've worked with Attorney's my entire career and appreciate that throughout the process, Tom was always very clear and made sure that we understood what was happening. But most important, he was very compassionate while doing his job, explained to us when a decision was made and fought for what was fair. Tom is a passionate, ethical Attorney and I highly recommend him.

"I am an experienced paramedic, with awards and decorations, with over 20 years of experience. Recently I was terminated from my empowerment through no fault of my own. I had applied for unemployment compensation and was denied. I reached out to Attorney Lasko . After a through and extensive consultation with Attorney Lasko, where he was able to analyze my termination and give me a firm understanding of what my legal rights were as to wrongful termination and unemployment benefits, I retained Attorney Lasko. Attorney Lasko was able to put together an highly effective letter that was sent to my former employer which resulted in my re-employment and the winning of unemployment benefits in the appeal process that covering unemployment benefits for the time I was out of work.. Although it is Attorney Lasko’s policy not to guarantee results, the results he obtained for me through keen insight, quick action, and years of tempered experience as he negotiated with my former employer were beyond any expectation I may have had. Results speak and Attorney Lasko delivered! I recommend Attorney Lasko without reservation! Eric Fortmann, EMTP

Attorney Lasko was one of three attorneys referred to me by Outten & Golden. I hired Attorney Lasko, because he was prompt and proactive. He helped devise an exit strategy from my former employer, then navigate through the separation, which was done so amicably. Moreover, I was able to successfully secure the maximum severance package allowable from my former employer on the terms that I desired. Overall, it was a positive experience, and I have able to remain on good terms with my former employer. This was a win-win situation. I highly recommend Attorney Lasko.

I originally was referred to Shipman and Goodwin by another attorney. After interviewing with Jim and Bill, I was convinced this was the legal team I wanted to take over my automobile accident lawsuit. Throughout the entire duration of my case, the attention, professionalism and care that Jim displayed with his associates, lacked in absolutely nothing short of perfection. My case was wrought with problems and issues; Shipman and Goodwin was the 4th firm I had hired, and needless to say I was very apprehensive by the time I retained their services. Jim handled very sensitive and personal information with attentive, courteous and polite methods, making me feel protected and safe, while guiding and prepping me through the legal proceedings before my trial. At no time during the period of 2 years did I ever doubt his abilities or experience in the process. I knew that if I was to get through my case with a positive outcome, that there was no better firm or set of attorneys out there to complete the job. I was impressed with both Jim and Bill's varying skills, complimenting each other within different realms of my case, with the end result of tying up any loose or unfinished details, making for a completely thorough case to be presented for a jury trial. When jury time came, they were completely ready to present the facts. I highly recommend Jim and Bill at Shipman and Goodwin, it made a truly unpleasant process comfortable and less stressful. I refer them to anyone I know needing legal assistance. I am deeply grateful for their professional guidance and care with my case.

Joe's extensive experience, approachable and friendly demeanor, remarkable responsiveness, dedication to his clients' particular goals and priorities, and professional but appropriately feisty advocacy in court made him an excellent legal representative for me during a painful divorce proceeding involving child custody, health and disability issues, complications stemming from a signed prenuptial agreement and my former spouse's willingness to be dishonest in court. Joe not only did his job well but provided me with tempered and welcome advice about how to best focus my efforts and emotional energy. I am grateful that he has been my lawyer and recommend him highly.

Joe Hubicki handled my divorce with skill and integrity when all other options failed. My ex-husband and I were in an endless loop of anger, sadness and stress going through the divorce process. Our horrible communications only added to the stress. There came a time when it was obvious we needed a thrid party. I hired Joe and he turned it all around for me. His words "ok, let me take care of it from here" were a gift to me. Shortly after I was divorced with a fair settlement. And that is exactly what I wanted. So, from one "been through it" to another, if you're looking for a good representative through this hellish process, I would say call Joe for a consultation.

Jay Weintraub represented me in a law suit in which I was the plaintiff suing my former business partner. Besides the fact that we won on all accounts, I was very impressed with the way he listened, counseled, analyzed and informed me all along the way. Since then Jay has represented me and my adult children in matters relating to real estate, estate planning, etc. I trust him for his knowledge, clarity of explanation, tenacity, and demeanor. Jay is not an attack oriented lawyer. He tries reason, communication and win-win results but he can be steel-minded when necessary. I always felt that my benefit was his primary objective- not his best interests.

I can't speak to his trustworthyness, responsiveness or the kept me informed catagories, what I can say is that in a 3 party lawsuit that went to trial where he represented one of two opposition parties - I was thoroughly impressed, he was way ahead of the other two attorneys (one of which was ours!) This is an excellent attorney who knew his case well, represented his client well, but also attempted settlement with a true (and fair) intent to settle. A quality attorney who knows his cases.

Through my work, I have come into contact with many lawyers who are only working for a paycheck and the bottom line. Brad is an exceptional lawyer who stands out against other lawyers. He creatively uses the law and the given information on hand to create a result that I felt was fair. He helped me to understand the process he was taking and he trained me in the process of what to do in front of a judge. Above all that, his prices and payment options were relaxed and made perfect sense. Warning: after all is done, you'll definitely want to take him out for a beer.

My first interaction with Crystal was via a Professional Social Media site, where I decided to hire her without ever meeting her in person. We closed on a house purchased via auction.com with a holdover occupant. Along the way, she guided the transactional stuff associated with closing. She is very professional and personable. My past interactions with the legal profession have made me feel like I needed to hire a lawyer to work with my lawyer. Her actions were how non-lawyers would interpret things, and at no time did she redirect using disclaimer-sounding language. She addressed all of my questions, thoughts, and concerns along the way. I am confident that my line of thinking would have caused many lawyers to misinterpret my thoughts, but she observed the Covey habits of seeking first to understand, then to be understood. This is my first review of a lawyer, and I have not a single complaint.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
