I was referred to Matt Morgan by a friend in a similar situation and couldn't be more pleased. He took the time to understand my concerns and gave me sound advice based on my circumstances and the avenue I wanted to take. Very professional, responsive, realistic and friendly. Thanks, Matt, for helping me through what can be a very scary time and making it more secure.

I hired Thomas Nale as my Divorce Attorney, and he completely blotched my Divorce Agreement when drafting the final agreement that I signed because I trusted that it was done to reflect the agreements made at the final hearing and during our mediations. Attorney Nale left out so many important details that I as a client wouldn't know to look for, especially when discussed just days before, I assumed everything to be accurate and complete!!! Unfortunately this wasn't the case and I trusted him as my Attorney so I signed it!! I didn't know that I would have to bring a calculator with me to figure out square feet in property measurements before signing!!! Now I've lost many acres of property to my ex-husband thanks to Attorney Nales negligence and errors!! Attorney Nale was hired by ME, to represent ME, and now I've LOST SO MUCH because of him, and my ex-husband has gained so much more than what we agreed upon!! Thanks to Attorney Nale, my ex-husband now owns the majority of my deceased parents property for which my dad's ashes are on!!! Hiring Attorney Nale has been the biggest mistake in my entire life and his negligence will affect the rest of my life!! He refused to fix HIS mistakes because my retainer ran out!! So I paid thousands of dollars for an attorney to ruin my life!!! I also am filing a complaint to the OVERSEERS OF THE BAR due to some unethical statements that he has made and some rules that he has broken in order for me to be able to hire him. DO NOT TRUST THIS MAN. If anyone wants any further details of what he did, and neglected to do, just comment, I'll be happy to share and details. I want the public to be aware!! BTW...Attorney Nale attended my final divorce hearing while driving in his car and his cell signal kept going in and out!! Just one more detail I thought would be important to mention.

Tyler C. Hadyniak is an associate at this firm initiated and conducted my case for VA Disability pay. I was very satisfied with the work. Tyler kept me appraised and responded to all my questions promptly. Since the VA awarded me an amount significantly higher than my initial evaluation attests to his expertise and competence. Besides his exemplary understanding of issues relating to the VA and the claim process, I can tell you this man has the highest level of integrity one can hope for. Given that our contemporary culture is rife with gross incompetence in almost every area of professional concern (see my previous reviews) this man far exceeded anything I could have hoped for. Tyler also authored a very powerful and insightful book on the subject, while crisscrossing the U.S. working on behalf of Vets; his book can be found on Amazon if this is of interest to you. I give Tyler my highest recommendation; and offer my heartfelt thanks for a job well done!

I cannot recommend Attorney Robert and Attorney Greg enough. From the moment I walked into their office, they were incredibly supportive and encouraging. As a victim, I was feeling lost and unsure about pursuing a PFA order. However, my attorney not only explained my rights to me but also instilled faith in me to continue the legal process. During the proceedings, the opposing attorney made me feel like the bad person, but my attorney stood by my side, defending me every step of the way. They skillfully highlighted the defendant's actions as being in direct violation of the law, ensuring that justice was served. Thanks to their expertise and dedication, I was granted the PFA order. Not only was Attorney Robert knowledgeable and professional, but they also displayed immense empathy and understanding throughout the entire process. They truly cared about my well-being and fought tirelessly to protect my rights. If you're in need of a reliable and compassionate attorney who will go above and beyond to ensure your voice is heard, I wholeheartedly recommend working with Attorney Robert.

If you require representation by a law firm with impeccable ethical standards, look elsewhere. If a cavalier attitude about the appearance of impropriety or being willing to subvert the will of Maine voters to achieve a business goal don’t bother you, then this could be the firm for you! A staffer at Rudman Winchell posed as a 'concerned neighbor', interfering in a vote on a local ordinance by writing a letter full of misinformation in support of one of the firm's clients whose interests would be affected by the outcome. This could not have happened without their knowledge. The lies were bad enough, but the concealment backfired. The advice they provided their clients was not effective; public sentiment went against them. The client claimed in public remarks that the staffer had been let go prior to writing the letter but there's no evidence to support that, nor would that have made her any less of an associate. But all that pales in comparison with their initial strategy, to push their client's proposal past an ordinance which was clearly meant to prohibit projects over a certain size. They built a house of cards on the existence of a minor wording error. Be warned: after being defeated by the voters they still didn’t take no for an answer and tried to get a favorable decision in Superior Court, further wasting their client’s money. The meritless case has been dismissed.

I received a call at my place of employment from an employee of this company and I left my shift in tears. I haven’t been spoken to in such a demeaning and belittling way in some time- that is why I am writing. I was schooled by this person about how to run a business and that not answering phones will be cause for people to look elsewhere. While I whole heartedly agree with the principle, it does not take into account that a person showing up to their job and who makes no company-wide decisions - is not an appropriate contact to put down (let alone harass). I work very hard and despite the insinuation of this person, I am not stupid; I simply have no control of staffing or volume of calls. This is not the first person I’ve encountered from this firm that has exhibited a concerning moral compass. I’m cheering everyone on to be represented adequately and fairly- so I’m not writing this to express hatred (we all have our moments, me included). I just want to share my personal experience as I know that those seeking legal advice and representation want to feel informed and secure in their endeavors.

We sat waiting for over half hour while this attorney gossiped with another woman from down the hall from her office about a previous employee. She cursed a lot and overall gave my wife and I a terrible impression. Her entire office had an odor of fast food, was overly bright and simply not cheerful. There was an older woman who worked there who talked to herself quite a bit and was very rude and seemed very unhappy to be there. After sitting with her for far too long listening to her talk about herself. we eagerly went down the street to another attorney who was professional and met our needs. Two thumbs down on this attorney.

Had a case a couple of years ago. Office staff were always nice and professional which is why I added another star. Peter himself is a nice guy, but very frustrating to work with. On several occasions, during our conversations, I noticed he couldn't remember much about my case and had to be reminded! Obviously that equaled a higher bill. A below-average performance in my opinion. He never went above/beyond. His court representation was also below expectations. I would not recommend him!

I paid him a small retainer to help me in a deposition and he did virtually zero preparation with me for my case yet charged me 2k not sure what that went to. He demanded another 2k the night before my very emotionally difficult depositions where I had to testify against a recently convicted abuser of mine. It felt like I was being squeezed. When I was asked sensitive questions that were irrelevant, invasive and triggering - I turned to him for help and he did nothing. I tried to plead the fifth, twice. He did nothing but sat there and let me be revictimized and I felt defenseless. That was my experience, very upset for my deposition, was unprotected. Funnily enough I can't find a single attorney to take my case now...

My boyfriend and i wanted to put me on one of his deeds with a mortgage. I am already on the deed where we currently live. Ken kept stating what a generous gift my boyfriend was giving me and he had dealt with plenty of divorces. We flat out told him i was divorced and my boyfriend has no children it is what we want considering we aren't getting married but have been together for 25 years. Ken had me leave the room to talk to my boyfriend privately for 20 minutes. When my boyfriend came out he said Ken says for us to do a life lease. WHAT A JOKE. Ok so apparently he sees me as a gold digger. If thats the case then i would just be happy with my boyfriend's three 401ks that i am 100 beneficiary including the other deed i am already on. We wanted just a simple quick claim deed done and he just didn't want to do it. This guy was a jerk and rude. Also, floor was not vacummed and his secretary was walking around with no shoes. Charles March is a very good person at large, however I believe he's getting up there in age and no longer has the motivation to get his Clients what they deserve and nee in a timely fashion. I have been a client of Attorney March now for 10 years, I had 2 Workers Compensation Accidents that he seemed to move pretty quick on one but has challenges with MEMIC. He did however get me all set with SSDI but has not been able to come close to settling anything with MEMIC our own back yard Insurance Company. I think Mr. March is just running out of steam I'm afraid That I will have to replace him to get the job done. I would however give Mr. March a 3 Star rating for what he has accomplished.

I can hardly bring myself to write his name but I hired Gene Libby to represent me following my husband's arrest for domestic violence, and he ended up representing me in my divorce as well. I believe I was as traumatized by Libby in the four months he represented me as I was by my husband in the 29 years he abused me. I also was charged an obscene amount of money for this short time. If you are a woman and want a shred of kindness or compassion from your lawyer, or for your opinion to count and voice to be heard, stay far away from him. I hired a local attorney to represent me post-divorce and that made me realize how helpful a lawyer who is a decent person can be.

Andrews knows the law, but is not very good with communication. He didn't let me know what was going on with my case, and took a few days to return my phone calls. I don't want to give details of my case, but something that needed to be done in my case by someone else he hired wasn't getting done, and I kept calling Andrews to see what was happening with it. He said he would call and check on it. When I finally called the person who was supposed to be doing this thing, they didn't have the right paperwork to do it. Even though I called Andrews many times, asking him to check on this, he obviously didn't, since I had to call and straighten it out. This delayed my case by more than a month. If he had called when I first asked him to, it would have speeded things up alot. I'm not happy with this lack of communication.

I used Greg to update a Will he had done in the past. This second time using him took forever with too many mistakes. I corrected the mistakes on the draft and sent them back. The next appointment was weeks later to go over the corrections and finalize the will. I had a 2:00 appointment I lived 2 1/2 hours away , 5 minuets before I arrived I got a cell call from his secretary that the company down stairs is who they use to come up as a witness/ sign the Will but they went home early. I was not happy after driving 2 1/2 hours. Greg’s response was things happen in life you will just have to reschedule . You think he could have advised them in the AM they would need someone at 2:00 A week later I go back for the signing and there are still mistakes on the new draft, now he starts yelling at me yes yelling that it is my fault, clearly not, he spelt the persons name correctly on the first page. Then I was pushed through reading the rest of the Will Bottom line stay clear from this Lawyer. Very unprofessional. Sloppy work.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
