Didn't like the overall experience and felt rush to settle. Even when they came back with an offer, I had to tell them to go back and renegotiate again. Which they did and got a little bit more. Even though the amount I got back was way less than what I thought. Spoke to other lawyers afterwards and was told that I could've gotten back more because of the severity of my condition and knowing the other party bodily injury protection was a lot.

Smith wrote one incorrect demand letter and filed one incorrect complaint. He filed my work product and failed to produce my documents. My documents were extensive and would have forced a settlement discussion. He billed me approximately $12,000 - his paralgal time was $2000. He harrassed me for 9 months involving my new lawyer William Walker. So no work was done while Smith chased me for approximately 5,000. I fired Smith and then Walker. They colluded to get me to pay Smith. They may threaten to sue me for defamation. Their problem is they have NO CASE. I can documenet every word of this review with text and Emails and correspondence. Smith chased me without any legal authority to do so (His fee agreement was contradictory, confusing to all that viewed it including his mediator friend. He is a liar and a bad lawyer. I am 72 and starting with Smith I lost every dime. I paid horrible lawyers over $150,000. Each was unable to negotiate a settlement. Each billed time that they could never justify. I was a paralegal and legal manager, I settled thousands of lawsuits in mass tort, had authority and settled cases for major clients and yet these lawyers cost me my financial life; And a home I intended to leave to my family. Please pay attention. Incompetance is bad, but lies and harrasment seems common in Pinellas County. I will review 5 lawyers - Smith, WIlliam Walker, Carolyn Margolies and Jesse Skipper. Please see my reviews. Its important.

As a retired veteran with preexisting injuries, I was concerned about my car accident case (hit and run) as I had sustained significant new injuries until I talked to Mr. Salter who assured me he had experience working similar cases, with military clients, and navigating and differentiating preexisting and new injuries. Mr. Salter is extremely professional, compassionate, and direct; he expertly humanizes legal subject matter, and has an advanced level of understanding legalities of insurance company’s processes and how they work. I was highly impressed with his staff, specifically (LeeAnn Backer), who took absolute life-cycle ownership of my case providing phenomenal customer service and compassion, communication, coordination with one of the best Orthopedic Surgeon's in the area, and follow up. Throughout the litigation of my case, Mr. Salter provided invaluable face-to-face deposition coaching and LeeAnn explained things crystal clear until I got them. Thank you S.H.R. Law Firm. Mr. Salter and LeeAnn exceeded my expectations! My case was reconciled flawlessly and expeditiously and I received my max settlement. I highly recommend this law firm to anyone looking for a highly effective trial attorney!

My first contact over the phone was surprising. He listened to what were my medical problems and future treatment and outlook. Both Mr Salter and his staff are knowledgeable in the law profession but they are caring and empathetic. He helped me to get a second opinion from one of the best Orthopedic Surgeon's in the area; Dr Thomas Tolli. When my prior Dr had said I was not a surgery candidate and would have to do long term pain management. That second opinion changed my life. If ever my family or friends need a great attorney, I am referring them to Brad Salter! He and his staff are just honesty Caro,g people that want to help you through a difficult and confusing time. Oh, and the settlement I received was more than I thought possible! He was even able to work down medical bills!

Salter, Healy, LLC has changed my life to better than it was before the accident. The jury verdict was vindicating , siding with me. The award (Huge) from the jury was more than what I expected possible to receive. Salter, Healy, LLC has made what seemed impossible, possible. They never gave up fighting for me. I still can't believe the money and time they spent on fighting for me, it was a lot. Who does that for someone? Family, that's exactly what Salter, Healy, LLC has become… Family.

Mr Whitlock has been more than just a lawyer / attorney to me. I consider him and his family friends they are always willing to answer the phone and answer questions that I may have concerning different law topics. That don't even fall under his spectrum of specialty but he still helps and looks up the information that I need. He also has handled two personal injury cases of mine and we have won both he has a fantastic attorney he knows his stuff and I would recommend him and have recommended him to anybody and everybody.

To be upfront, I was on the opposing side of this attorney. I can't speak on his ability with other areas of law, but regarding Family Law, I can give you full insight. Mr. Goldstein is not the most intelligent attorney on this matter, but his aggressiveness, ability to manipulate and come up with stories are his strong suits. This worked out well for him in the beginning of our case; however, I learned how to handle Mr. Goldstein's tactics soon enough. As a result, Mr. Goldstein was easily handled going forward, both while being represented or just representing myself. The key to dealing with Mr. Goldstein is to just make sure you keep EVERY piece of communication involving Mr. Goldstein because he always tends to shoot himself in the foot during his cocky emails. By doing this, I submitted his communications to the judge as evidence and used case law Rosen v. Rosen which shows that a party is being difficult and intentionally delaying a solution and as a result, the judge awarded me $2,000 in attorney fees. Mr. Goldstein attempted to manipulate the child support calculations by submitting only half of his client's annual income, committing potential fraud. When he got caught red handed as we had all the W-2s in our possession, comically provided to us accidentally by someone from his office, he continued to deny and lie. Needless to say, not only did Mr. Goldstein look horrible in the eyes of the court, but Mr. Goldstein and his client (my ex) parted ways immediately after. Just be prepared for a circus show when going against this attorney.

I have lived in St. Pete for 30 years and have always heard good things about Justin but never expected to need to hire a personal Injury Lawyer. When I got into a bad car accident in 2017, I was in the hospital after to get checked out and figured all of the pain I had was just temporary from the crash impact. Turns out, I suffered a severe neck injury from the accident that required a major surgery, rehab, physical therapy, and nerve damage. Thanks to Justin, I got my bills paid & I got my life back!

This program , the Law Firm, the Attorney’s, and everything they do for our community and the people of our community is absolutely amazing! My attorney Mr Brooks Fusselman and his associates helped me through a major crisis I was facing with an elderly landlord who didn’t even live in this country. This landlord tried to put me and my very young child on the street. The “Property Manager” is her alcoholic tenant who dwells downstairs from the house I leased for 12 months. He doesn’t like the noise of a child running down the hallway, or his bath time, etc.. therefore I was considered a “noise problem”. Once Mr Brooks and the very generous people of Community Law Program took my case and started looking into the eviction process…they immediately took legal action to protect me and my child, giving me extra time to prepare for our sudden move and a new place to call home.. I could not have done this if it wasn’t for the kind hearted people at Community Law Program. Thanks again to all of you.

I was referred to him and hired him to represent me in a chapter 13 bankruptcy case. His performance, follow through and legal guidance was mediocre. He missed two major events that he could and should have anticipated that cost me tens of thousands of dollars. I fired him and had to hire and pay for another attorney to complete my chapter 13 filing. He just was not apologetic and just seemed to be relieved that he no longer was obligated to complete his representation. I would advise not using him under any circumstance.

After weeks of going nowhere, Mr. David R. Singha finally mailed needed paperwork for me to sign, notarize, and mail back to a P.O. Box (March 9, 2016). His words "Once he receives paperwork he will send me my check." I haven't heard anything from him since letting me know he received my paperwork, nor have I received my check. Mr. David R. Singha Probate Attorney knows the laws of the state of Florida. He was hired back in June/July of 2015, and should've anticipated Medicare process. Now I'm waiting, again, for any scrap of information, as to: Where is my money? Why don't I have my money yet? What is taking so to get long to get my money? Who has my money? How come my money is not in my hands? Mr. David R. Singha I want closure, I want my money.

I am sick, Mr. Singha knows this but he continues to manipulate my wait time for disbursement of an awardment. Instead of relaying my check has come and he's sending paper for me to notarize and send back, then promptly sending check, Mr. Singha continues still to leave me in a state of confusion and frustration by continuing to keep my awardment with no known just cause. I would not recommend Mr. Singha to anyone.

He was my divorce lawyer, and he treated me like a little woman who didn't know anything. He'd inform me of "my" strategy just before hearings in the courtroom hallway. He refused to fight for timesharing with my children, saying that I just needed closure. He told me I didn't have enough money to prove parental alienation. When the judge made a temporary order giving me more time with my daughter than Attorney Kennedy requested (but still less than what I wanted), Attorney Kennedy tried to block it. He zealously advocated against my position, and he wanted me to pay $300 per hour for him to advocate against me! I had to order a transcript to prove what the judge said (and I was right), and then Attorney Kennedy wrote a timesharing order that was so vague that the police told me it would be difficult to enforce. I finally fired him, one of the best things I ever did in my life. And I represented myself and got the timesharing with my daughter that I wanted, at a level that Attorney Kennedy told me I'd never get and was staunchly unwilling to even request. He even wrote a letter to me saying that it was inappropriate for the judge to give more than what "we" asked for! This man is NOT an advocate. Dealing with him during an already difficult situation was one of the worst experiences of my life. If you want an advocate, someone who respects you, or someone who even cares slightly about your predicament, please run as far away from James Kennedy as you can get.

What a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Do for You

A personal injury lawyer specializes in helping individuals who have been physically or emotionally injured due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Whether you've been hurt in a car accident, suffered a slip and fall, or experienced medical malpractice, a personal injury attorney works to ensure you receive fair compensation for your injuries. They can help you recover damages for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

Personal injury lawyers act as your advocate, navigating the legal system on your behalf and dealing with insurance companies to ensure you get the compensation you deserve. They understand how to handle complex legal matters and help you avoid common pitfalls.

When Should I Hire a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Hiring a personal injury lawyer can be beneficial in many situations where you've been harmed due to another's negligence. Some key scenarios include:

  • Severe injuries: If you've suffered significant or permanent injuries that result in substantial medical bills, a lawyer can help ensure you are fairly compensated.
  • Long-term or permanent disability: Injuries that affect your ability to work or require ongoing medical treatment are complex, and a lawyer can help estimate long-term damages.
  • Disputed liability: If the responsible party or their insurance company denies liability for your injury, a lawyer can gather evidence and advocate on your behalf.
  • Insurance company lowball offers: Insurers often try to settle personal injury claims for as little as possible. A lawyer can negotiate to get you a fair settlement.
  • Medical malpractice claims: Injuries caused by a doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider due to negligence require a personal injury lawyer experienced in medical malpractice law.
  • Exposure to hazardous substances: If you've been injured due to exposure to toxins, chemicals, or dangerous substances, a lawyer can help pursue legal action.

Hiring a lawyer early in the process is crucial, especially if you're unsure of the full extent of your injuries or damages.

What Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer provides a wide range of services to guide you through the legal process and maximize your compensation. They can:

  • Evaluate your case: A lawyer will assess the strength of your claim and determine whether you have a viable case.
  • Investigate the incident: Gathering evidence such as police reports, witness statements, medical records, and expert opinions is key to building a strong case.
  • Negotiate with insurance companies: Lawyers handle communications with insurance companies to ensure you receive a fair settlement and aren't taken advantage of.
  • File a lawsuit if necessary: If a fair settlement can't be reached, the lawyer can file a personal injury lawsuit on your behalf and represent you in court.
  • Help calculate damages: This includes medical expenses, lost wages, future medical needs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Prepare and file legal documents: Lawyers handle all the paperwork and deadlines associated with your case, including filing motions and discovery requests.
  • Represent you at trial: If your case goes to trial, the lawyer will argue your case before a judge and jury to obtain the compensation you deserve.

How Are Personal Injury Lawyers Paid?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis. This means they only get paid if they win your case, either through settlement or a court judgment. Here’s how it works:

  • Contingency fee percentage: The lawyer will take a percentage of the settlement or award, typically between 25% and 40%, depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it's resolved.
  • Costs and expenses: In addition to the contingency fee, the lawyer may deduct other costs associated with the case, such as filing fees, expert witness fees, and court costs. These expenses are often advanced by the lawyer and repaid out of the settlement.
  • No upfront payment: Since the lawyer’s fee is contingent on winning, you usually don’t pay anything upfront.

Always discuss the lawyer’s fee structure during your consultation to avoid surprises.

How Much Does a Personal Injury Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a personal injury lawyer depends on the specifics of your case and the lawyer’s fee structure. However, since most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, the amount you pay will depend on the outcome of your case. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Contingency fees: Typically range from 25% to 40% of the settlement or award. The percentage may increase if the case goes to trial or requires an appeal.
  • Other costs: In addition to the lawyer's fee, you may be responsible for case-related expenses such as expert witness fees, medical record retrieval fees, and court costs. These are often deducted from your settlement, so you won't have to pay out of pocket.

While the cost may seem high, hiring an experienced lawyer can significantly increase the amount you recover, making it a worthwhile investment.

Top Questions to Ask a Personal Injury Lawyer

Before hiring a personal injury lawyer, it's essential to ask questions to ensure you’re choosing the right representation. Here are some important questions to ask:

  1. What is your experience with personal injury cases like mine?
Make sure the lawyer has handled cases involving similar injuries or accidents.
  2. What is your fee structure?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a contingency fee and what percentage they will take from any settlement or award.
  3. How long will my case take?
While it's hard to predict, a lawyer can give you an estimate based on similar cases they’ve handled.
  4. How often do you take cases to trial?
Some lawyers prefer to settle quickly, while others are more comfortable going to court if necessary.
  5. Will you personally handle my case?
In larger firms, junior lawyers or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it's important to know who will be managing your claim.
  6. Do you have references from past clients?
Speaking with past clients can provide valuable insight into the lawyer’s effectiveness and professionalism.

How to Check the Credibility of a Personal Injury Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a credible personal injury lawyer, take the following steps:

  • Check bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing with your state’s bar association. Look for any history of disciplinary actions.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Online platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, and Google reviews can provide insight into the lawyer's reputation and client satisfaction.
  • Look at their track record: Review their experience with personal injury cases, particularly how many cases they’ve successfully resolved or taken to trial.
  • Ask for references: Credible lawyers should be willing to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their work.
  • Check professional memberships: Lawyers who are members of respected organizations, like the American Association for Justice (AAJ), often have a solid reputation in the field.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first meeting with a personal injury lawyer, prepare the following:

  • Detailed account of the accident: Write down everything you remember about the incident, including dates, times, and locations. Include any witnesses or police reports if available.
  • Medical records and bills: Bring any documentation of your injuries, treatments, and associated medical costs.
  • Insurance information: Provide your insurance details and any communication you’ve had with the other party’s insurance company.
  • Employment and income records: If your injury has impacted your ability to work, bring proof of lost wages or reduced earning capacity.
  • Photos or videos: If you have photos of the accident scene, your injuries, or property damage, bring them to your consultation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions to ask, including how the lawyer will handle your case and what you can expect in terms of timeline and outcome.

By preparing thoroughly for your first consultation, you’ll help the lawyer understand your case more quickly and get a better sense of your legal options.
