Leighton Law, Max Panoff and associates were wonderful and worked diligently to resolve my case in a timely manner. Throughout this difficult time, they were always readily available to answer any questions and I had many. I was very pleased with the outcome, and it will make my life a little easier. I just wish it would not have happened in the first place. Thanks again to everyone I worked with at Leighton Law.

My mom and I had the displeasure of talking with Cynthia Nunn from Leighton Law to discuss going after Orlando Health for their negligence in treating my dad's cancer, which led to his passing. Not only did she make us relive our nightmarish story that we had already submitted online, she wasted our time by shutting us down immediately. If she was going to say no, why make us relive the trauma? To add insult to injury, she was actually defending the negligent doctors in question and straight up told us that our loved one was going to die anyway. Whether that was true or not, you do not just say that so nonchalantly to other people. You would not like that if someone said that about your dad. I am almost glad they did not take our case because I would rather deal with the devil himself than deal with Cynthia and Leighton Law after the added emotional damage she did to us.

Steven is trying to keep more of my inheritance then he is entitled to. When asked about it he said “it’s a wash”, and now he is ignoring my attempts to get this resolved. I completely understand why he lost his right to practice for 18 months in 2006. Hopefully it will be permanent this time so he can’t take advantage of anyone else.

Steven Jonas lied to me repeatedly when handling a case of my mother's estate. A Wells Fargo employee stole a significant amount of money from her. The employee was found guilty and sent to jail. I never recovered all the money stolen because Jonas lied to Wells Fargo and to me. It was astonishing how badly he misrepresented the situation. He did not tell me that his partner, who I considered my lawyer, has left the firm. He told me the partner was too busy and he was handling it. He did not file the proper paperwork to close the estate. He did not tell the bank that my mother had died. When I went to obtain other legal representation he would not send them the files. It was a disaster. My mother died in unnecessary emotional pain and confusion due to his mishandling of the suit.

We are so grateful for Tim Rudge and his paralegal, Mitzi for their work on our case. To start, they rescued our stalled case from our own bad choice of first attny. Tim took over and got our case going in the correct direction right away. He clearly explained every step and option we had in our case and executed our choices promptly with no ego or agenda. Tim and Mitzi were always easy to reach, we never waited more than 24hrs for answers. Mitzi copied us on documents and emails, usually the same business day, and always made sure we understood them and didn't have any questions. For our first legal experience, we couldn't be happier to have found these two to represent us.

I sued my trustee/ mother to compel documents to the trust I'm listed on as beneficiary. My trustee hired Eugene Beil to represent her and the trust to oppose me, which is a gross conflict of interest. He should have worked to have the trust settled correctly as outlined in uniform trust code. Instead he filed and helped my trustee get a restraining order against me, the trust beneficiary for cyber stalking over my sending said trustee a certified letter containing a cure notice to produce trust documents I should have received in 1999 when the trust was created. He then conspired with the judge to try to block my lawsuit. He then withdrew citing an undisclosed "ethical conflict". I'm a totally disabled person that's been homeless on the streets for over five years now. I'll be filing a bar complaint as soon as I am able.

I hired Paige to represent me in a complicated divorce. She came highly recommended by another highly-respected attorney in town. I was very nervous from past experiences with other attorneys but when I met her, I immediately knew I had the right one. She put me at ease right away and I was so impressed with how knowledgeable and helpful she was. It was obvious from day one that she truly wanted to help me. Over the many months it took to get my divorce done, I came to realize how truly blessed I was to have Paige on my side. My ex-husband's attorney was a bloodthirsty shark from Orlando and Paige put him right in his place! I could tell that even the judge was impressed with how she was running circles around the other attorney. I especially liked that she was tough with the other attorney but kind and loyal to me. I truly felt that she was "my" lawyer. The best words I can use to describe Paige: Razor-sharp. Tough. Kind. Loyal. Wise. Professional. Any of my family or friends who need an attorney will be referred to Paige by me! She always returned my calls, was there for me when I needed her, and worked wonders in my case. I would stake my reputation on her any time!

I wish I had heeded the warning in this review before hiring Mr. Britton, but I didn't - much to my own detriment (please see below). I believe it sums up my own experience with this attorney verbatim, therefore I don't have much more to add myself. Overall I learned an important and expensive lesson: Pay close attention to warnings of poor reviews. "Not very responsive 2.0 stars Posted by anonymous October 26, 2015 Mr. Britton handled a probate case for me. After he was hired, rarely responded to emails and required multiple phone calls to receive any updates or answer questions. I had to repeat myself multiple times and reinform him as though he was unaware of my file. Also, the cost estimate I was provided before hiring him was exceeded. I believe his advice was sound - but reaching him for information was not as easy as I would have liked. Overall, I found working with him to be very frustrating".

People looking for superior legal representation in Florida should contact Richard Britton and the Britton Law, LLC law firm. I retained Richard Britton and Britton Law to secure protection for my Mother who has Alzheimer’s and had been purposely isolated from our family for a protracted period of time. In under two weeks Matt Hinson and Richard Britton devised and executed on a legal strategy which resulted in an almost immediate and highly positive outcome in a recent Nassau County Guardianship matter. What is unique about Richard Britton and Britton Law is that this pairing is a perfect combination of seasoned expertise, legal sophistication and dedication to professional comportment. This rare combination IS why they were able to achieve what others could not and deftly penetrated an existing pervasive obstruction that I personally know is a block to just outcomes for vulnerable seniors in Nassau County. I know now that there are very few, if any, attorneys who are even willing to take cases that involve this obstructionist legal pairing. Richard Britton is an attorney of the highest caliber. Britton Law, LLC is a rare boutique firm gem that has the confidence to think outside the box, expertise to separate the wheat from the chaff and most importantly has the patience to help those who may be considered a legal underdog. I recommend Richard Britton and Britton Law, LLC without reservation.

I have had several lawyers in my life and by far he is the worst lawyer I have ever had to deal with. He never answer his phone. The message on the phone told the caller to send emails. He would ignore alot of my emails. After a month or so he would type a couple lines back to me in a email, it really didn't answer my question very clear and I would have to start all over and ask another question. A lot of times he never responded at all. He also really inflated his billing. After years of this I had to finally hire another lawyer to get the case finished.

Do NOT hire this attorney. He has utterly destroyed my case with his incompetence. He has repeatedly failed to fulfill his contract as well as properly represent me. He makes no effort to properly communicate or respond to me. He has repeatedly conveyed information to opposing counsel without my knowledge that has helped the opposing party to avoid accountability. He has actively avoided providing me with court documents, communications from opposing counsel, filing court documents, and has gone so far as to fail to uphold my court ordered rights. Do yourself a favor and run as far away from this attorney as you possibly can. He has no conscience.

I was recommended to Mr. Barrett from the Clearwater BAR office as another option to my first lawyer who was unresponsive. My mom’s vehicle was damaged on camera, and I was hoping Mr. Barrett would be able to help us get the car repair paid for and completed in a timely manner. Instead, we were given basic knowledge about opening up a small claim and recommended to take further legal action through a time consuming route while paying out of pocket for damages initially. There was a strong case with video evidence of a hit and run, and a third party aiding in a crime. I really want to help my mom get her transportation back, and Ted Barrett was not helpful and ended the call abruptly with a slight attitude after I stated that I was not satisfied with his response. Im definitely going to avoid Ted Barrett in the future. This was a prime opportunity to help a citizen who is in need of justice and assistance. Thanks for nothing Ted.

Byrom law firm is exceptional ! I can not choose only one word to describe Jennifer Byrom and her staff. Professional, experienced ,aggressive, thorough, attentive, knowledgeable, quality, value, enthusiastic, empathetic, caring, compassionate, personable, kind, and patient are just to name a few off the top of my head. Byrom Law Firm and my experience with Jennifer Byrom was nothing short of phenomenal. Jennifer Byrom did an exemplary job representing me in 2016 with my divorce. In 2020 I attained Mrs. Byrom again when my ex-wife wanted to relocate my special needs daughter from Florida to Montana. My daughter is autistic which makes my case unique just like her in many ways and my ex-wife makes my case difficult! Lets be honest, most states including Florida tend to lean towards the mother or primary parent. I was scared, stressed, and heart broken knowing there was a chance I could lose my precious daughter who has no voice to a relocation many miles away. Mrs. Byrom was straight forward and realistic with me about my case throughout the whole process to the end. She eased my stress and was there for me anytime I needed her. If she was in court or busy at the time, then one of her wonderful paralegals Penny Miller or Denise Lewis were. Both women knew my case thoroughly and could answer any questions I had at any time. At no time did I ever feel as if my case wasn't their most important case. Kimi (the receptionist) was always there to make me smile when I was upset or stressed. She makes the best coffee and always went out of her way to make my wife and I comfortable. The whole staff makes you feel like family. At no time did Mrs. Byrom ever make me feel like it was about money to her. She worked with me always giving me time to pay and was understanding of my financial situation. She worked hard throughout the whole case and is worth every penny spent. You definitely get what you pay for. An honest hard working attorney who cares more about you and your case than money. Jennifer Byrom has knowledge and lots of experience with judges and courts in Santa Rosa County. Her dedication to fighting for my rights as a father and most importantly for my daughters best interest, is what made us win my case. Not just one win but two wins with two different judges. Temporary relocation was denied and permanent relocation was denied. Jennifer Byrom understood from the very beginning that because my daughter doesn't have a voice, she would have to become her voice. I will forever be grateful to her and her staff for this. If my daughter could speak she would definitely tell her " Thank you for keeping me with my daddy and for being my voice." A great lawyer and honesty is all you need. This law firm is just that and more. I think it goes without saying that I HIGHLY recommend Byrom Law Firm. Thanks with all our hearts, Bill, Stacie & Aurora

Jennifer has been a part of our case since 2015. She is not only extremely knowledgeable about the laws, she genuinely cares about people. She knows what she is doing and there are reasons for her choices. You have to trust her. If things are slow, be patient. She has a plan. If she tells you to do something, do it! Her staff is absolutely amazing and can explain to you the reasoning for things at any point. Is she "expensive". Sure! But, Jennifer went to school for many years, she has many years of experience, she has a great track record in the court room, she cares about people and works hard for you. She deserves her pay! You like to get paid for your work, correct? She is busy but wouldn't you want an attorney that is busy? This shows others trust her and hires her. She is prepared for your case so understand that just bc she can't pick up the phone daily doesn't mean she isn't working for you. We won the first case and she was found in contempt, we have more time w the kids, miracles happened that is unexplainable during the first mediation. We are back in the courts again due to her false filings but we believe we will win this one also. I tried to speak about what others said negatively about her. I'm picky! I'm hard to please! I'm opinated and expect a lot. If she wasn't wonderful, I assure you I would say so. But, the fact I think she is wonderful says so much more bc of who I am and my expectations. Hire her and tell her Katherine and Brian said we trust her w our children's lives!

A simple contract to pay between individuals and they failed to file case due to more research needed. $5000 paid and never received a call from Mr. Goodwin. The contract was for payment of settlement of partnership with an air force officer when he sold the property. The air force office made $3,000,000 on sale and did not honor his promise and signature on recorded document at Okaloosa County County. The firm told and we believe they understood the funds were to be used in continued support of the Ukraine and U.S. humanitarian charity Two Freedoms Foundation and their work helping children and families in and during the war in Ukraine. Not an apology for failure but a request for several more thousand dollars for more research. And all documents and history were recorded and kept with the Foundation from date of partnership beginning 1992 but not used for filing a letter to the air force officer to pay. The sale was in 2022 with no statue of limitation limit as our contracting his firm was in 2022. We believe all that is given is correct and given this day from eastern Ukraine where will continue to support families and children during the Russian war in Ukraine.

Our interactions with this firm were quite disappointing. We paid an initial consultation fee of $290 for Mr. Goodwin to provide “preliminary guidance” (their emphasis) for establishing an LLC in Florida to hold our Florida property. After a discussion of the requisite steps, we left the meeting not feeling comfortable with the matter, but still intending to move forward. At no point during the consultation were any downsides of creating an LLC brought up. Over the next couple of days I was emailed twice by a paralegal from the firm asking us to select a registered agent so she could begin work setting up the LLC. During this same time, our Georgia estate attorney contacted me wanting to know if Mr. Goodwin had warned us of the impact of creating an LLC on our non-homestead 10% ad valorem real property tax cap, which would be followed by a higher base for annual assessments. He stated there was a recent Florida 3rd DCA opinion addressing this issue. I called the Okaloosa tax office and they confirmed that if we placed our property into an LLC then the base tax rate readjusts and it would potentially cost us thousands of dollars. In my view, this is precisely the type of information which should be brought up during a paid initial consultation session. Another indicator of a lack of attention to detail on the part of the Goodwin firm is they placed the wrong home address on our documents. We had not lived at the address they used in over four years, and we had never given it to the firm. Even on a subsequent bill of $275, apparently for the paralegal’s time, they again used the wrong address. We decided not to continue our relationship with the Goodwin law firm.

From there to the end, his associates walked me through every step with compassion and professionalism, always keeping me informed and seeking to make the experience as convenient for me as possible. I would not hesitate to refer his services to anyone.

incompetent and less than honest. The worst attorney I have ever seen. Because I was in a different state and she was recommended by someone competent, I used her. I did not think she could make things worse and believed the truth would prevail. She made things worse.

Ms. Hollingshead is both extremely professional and deeply knowledgeable. I hired her initially to draft estate planning documents (will, living will, power of attorney, health care surrogate, etc) for myself and my husband. Then when we separated, she advised me in how to update the documents to reflect my changed situation. Since that time, I've engaged her to advise me on a number of topics, including business strategy & real property acquisition. She has invariably given me sound advice, and correctly, completely, and quickly drafted and filed any and all documentation required. I would unhesitatingly recommend Ms. Hollingshead as a first rate attorney in all these areas.

Multiple errors in legal documents requiring corrections, makes careless mistakes that could be prevented if documents were double checked. Poor communication, doesn't respond when contacted. Seems like she just figures it out as she goes. It's simple, don't take more clients if cannot handle it.

Christine represented us in a complex, drawn-out, contentious probate matter over the course of 4 years. During the process Christine fiercely advocated for our position. She educated us as to our rights, risks, and rewards in the actions considered and pursued. Ultimately, she shepherded us through a successful mediation rather than a debilitating court battle. Her fee structure was extremely fair and clearly articulated. We felt respected and supported throughout the proceedings and concluded the probate matter happy with the settlement of the estate and our share. I would highly recommend Christine in any probate matter and hire her again should the need arise in the future.

Words cannot express the level of reassurance I felt in working with Nicole Morris as my attorney. Over the last six years, she has handled a multitude of issues for me including drafting Living Will, Durable Power of Attorney and Designation Healthcare Surrogate documents. She has also reviewed real estate documents on my behalf during a very stressful transaction that resulted in a settlement. I am so grateful for her guidance and compassion as she handled everything with dignity and the utmost professionalism. Her services far exceeded my expectations, as such I would highly recommend Ms. Morris because she is the best.

I hired Ms. Vargas to assist me with a legal family law matter. She was not knowledgeable in this area of law. She was unable to accurately answer my questions or provide sound legal advice. She was not prepared for our Court date and I felt like she didn't even know the facts of my case. She has no attention to detail and provides no customer service. She wouldn't return my calls and failed to keep me updated as to the status of my case. I would have been better off representing myself. I received very poor representation and would not recommend this attorney to anyone who is looking for an aggressive knowledgeable attorney.

I used Julia’s service’s three different times in the past year, all for a related case. Julia went above and beyond each time to listen to me, answer my texts or phone calls, and take extra time to prepare for the hearing until I felt comfortable. She takes a direct no-nonsense approach to her cases and uses high levels of discernment in sorting out the facts & truth and letting them speak for themselves. I was thankful to have her on my side to win all 3 of my cases and would highly recommend her to anyone.

Julia got me in a far worse jam than I started out in. I got 2 traffic citations for one stop and didnt want to pay the fine plus receive the points on my license. I hired Julia and said the most important thing to me is not receiving any points on my license. She set a hearing 2 months out and didn't even notify me of the result. I had to track her down (she does not communicate) until I finally got a hold of her and she told me I had to pay the court fees and attend a 12 hour IN-PERSON driving school. I asked if that meant I wouldnt get any points and she had NO IDEA. She is either playing me or very inept. I have kept trying to call her and she does not respond. So instead of paying the fine and getting points I now... -paid her -pay court fees pay for driving school -waste 12 hours of my life on driving school -still get points AWFUL HUMAN

This is a little story from a few years back. I came to Julia in a jam regarding an issued criminal citation from Georgia. Julia guided me through the process from start to finish. She communicated well and got all of the information she needed from me. As a result, she convinced the prosecutor to drop the charges. Highly recommend this wonderful attorney if you’re in a Florida or Georgia criminal jam.

What a Probate Lawyer Can Do for You

A probate lawyer assists with the legal process of administering a deceased person’s estate. This often involves guiding executors (if a will exists) or beneficiaries (if no will exists) through the probate process to settle the estate according to the deceased’s wishes or applicable laws. Probate lawyers can help validate the will, distribute assets, resolve disputes among heirs, handle outstanding debts or taxes, and ensure the estate is legally and efficiently administered.

Whether you’re an executor of an estate or an heir facing probate proceedings, a probate lawyer can help you navigate the often-complex legal process to ensure the estate is settled correctly.

When Should I Hire a Probate Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a probate lawyer when you are responsible for managing the estate of a deceased individual, especially in the following situations:

  • The estate has substantial assets: If the estate includes significant assets like real estate, investments, or business interests, legal assistance is often necessary to handle the distribution properly.
  • The will is being contested: If there are disputes among heirs regarding the validity of the will or the division of assets, a probate lawyer can help resolve the conflict.
  • The estate includes complex or unclear provisions: If the will contains complicated instructions or there are no clear beneficiaries, a lawyer can ensure that the estate is administered according to legal requirements.
  • There is no will (intestate estate): When a person dies without a will, the estate is subject to intestacy laws, which determine how assets are distributed. A probate lawyer can help navigate this process.
  • Debt or tax issues exist: If the estate owes significant debts or is subject to estate taxes, a probate lawyer can help ensure debts are paid appropriately and taxes are minimized.
  • Probate disputes: If family members or other parties are disputing the distribution of assets or challenging the executor's actions, legal representation is crucial to defending your rights and ensuring the estate is handled properly.

Hiring a probate lawyer early in the process can help avoid costly mistakes and ensure the estate is settled efficiently.

What Does a Probate Lawyer Do?

A probate lawyer provides a wide range of legal services to help manage and settle an estate. Their tasks can include:

  • Validating the will: Filing the will with the probate court and ensuring its legal validity.
  • Guiding executors or administrators: Advising the person responsible for managing the estate on their duties, including inventorying assets, notifying creditors, and paying debts.
  • Filing necessary paperwork: Preparing and submitting the legal documents required to initiate and complete the probate process.
  • Resolving disputes: Mediating or litigating disputes among heirs or between beneficiaries and executors, including challenges to the will or disagreements over asset distribution.
  • Handling debt and tax matters: Ensuring that outstanding debts, taxes, and estate taxes are properly calculated and paid from the estate’s assets.
  • Distributing assets: Ensuring that assets are distributed to the beneficiaries according to the will or intestacy laws, and that all legal requirements are fulfilled.
  • Closing the estate: Completing the final steps of the probate process, including filing a final accounting with the court and formally closing the estate.

How Are Probate Lawyers Paid?

Probate lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the estate and the nature of the legal work involved. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Most probate lawyers charge by the hour, with rates depending on the lawyer’s experience and the complexity of the estate. Hourly rates can range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Flat fee: For simple estates or straightforward probate tasks, some lawyers may charge a flat fee that covers all of the necessary legal work.
  • Percentage of the estate: In some states, probate lawyers are allowed to charge a percentage of the estate's value as their fee. This percentage typically ranges from 2% to 5%, depending on the size of the estate and state regulations.
  • Retainer fee: Some lawyers may require an upfront retainer fee, which is billed against as the probate process progresses.

It’s important to clarify the fee structure during your initial consultation to understand how you will be charged and avoid unexpected costs.

How Much Does a Probate Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a probate lawyer depends on several factors, including the complexity of the estate, the type of legal issues involved, and the lawyer’s fee structure. General cost estimates include:

  • Simple estates: For estates with straightforward assets and no disputes, probate legal fees can range from $2,500 to $10,000, depending on the lawyer's fees and the state's probate laws.
  • Complex estates: For larger or more complicated estates with multiple properties, business interests, or disputes, probate costs can exceed $10,000 and may reach $20,000 or more.
  • Hourly rates: If charged by the hour, expect rates between $150 and $500, depending on the lawyer’s expertise and geographic location.
  • Percentage fees: In some cases, a probate lawyer may charge 2% to 5% of the estate’s value, particularly for larger estates or those involving complex legal matters.

Always ask for a clear estimate of fees during your initial consultation to understand the total cost of probate representation.

Top Questions to Ask a Probate Lawyer

Before hiring a probate lawyer, it’s essential to ask the right questions to ensure you’re hiring someone qualified to handle your estate needs. Key questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with probate cases like mine?
Ensure the lawyer has experience with estates of similar complexity, especially if disputes or high-value assets are involved.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a percentage of the estate, and request a cost estimate.
  3. What is the likely timeline for my probate case?
While it’s hard to predict exactly, an experienced lawyer can give you a general idea of how long the probate process may take based on the specifics of your estate.
  4. What steps will you take to manage and distribute the estate?
Ask about the lawyer’s approach to handling debts, taxes, and asset distribution.
  5. Will you be handling my case personally?
In larger firms, junior attorneys or paralegals may handle some aspects of your case, so it’s important to know who will be working on your probate case.
  6. What are potential challenges we may face?
A good lawyer will be able to anticipate possible issues, such as will contests or creditor claims, and explain how they would handle them.

How to Check the Credibility of a Probate Lawyer

To ensure you’re hiring a reputable probate lawyer, follow these steps to check their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their state bar status: Check with your state’s bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed to practice and has no history of disciplinary action.
  • Look for probate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in probate law and have experience handling estates of similar complexity.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for online reviews on platforms like Avvo or Martindale-Hubbell to see what past clients have said about the lawyer’s probate experience.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who can vouch for their professionalism and expertise in handling probate matters.
  • Look for membership in professional organizations: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys (AAEPA) or the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) can indicate a lawyer's commitment to estate and probate law.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a probate lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • A copy of the will or trust (if applicable): Bring any estate planning documents left by the deceased, including wills, trusts, or powers of attorney.
  • List of assets and debts: Prepare a detailed list of the deceased’s assets (e.g., real estate, bank accounts, investments) and outstanding debts (e.g., loans, mortgages, credit cards).
  • Death certificate: Bring a certified copy of the deceased person’s death certificate.
  • Contact information for heirs and beneficiaries: Have a list of all individuals or entities named in the will or who are entitled to inherit under intestacy laws.
  • Questions about the probate process: Write down any questions you have about the process, costs, and potential issues you might face.
  • Relevant financial records: If available, bring any relevant financial documents, such as bank statements, property deeds, and tax returns.

By coming prepared, you can ensure a productive consultation and allow the lawyer to provide the best advice for your situation.
